Dear Community,

I  am new to bitcointalk and I am valueing the vast experience of all members here.

We are just developing an own idea of crypto and therefore I was studying the smart contracting concepts of Ethereum and now EOS.

There are also a lot of other smart contract - blockchains on the market but Ethereum and EOS seem to be the most important ones.

Therefore I want to start a discussion about these two alternative and their base concept.

I also want to get some opinions what you think of the DPOS - concept, which EOS is based on.

And where will the development of Ethereum go? Will there be a switch from POW to POS?

The next hardfork can be considered as the first phase of is about to fix the scalability problem and start the ice age update. Block reward will have reduced.
EOS is not even better than ethereum and that's only a self proclaiming.

Why do you think that the EOS - concept won't be sustainable? Is it not secure? Or does EOS simply have another target group than ETH?

I never thought that EOS would be able to match ETH, even though ETH would still be the second best coin after the bitcoin and smart contracts would still be in demand

From the available information we have about the Ethereum and the EOS blockchains respectively I think both of them have similar concepts but the issue of scalabilty is what differentiate them,EOS is more scalable than Ethereum,however Ethereum is working towards increasing its scalability

I think EOS has a solid proposal to scale the blockchain, it already has a better performance (blocktivity.info)and has the advantage that code is not law.

I dont see that in eth.

Eth reminds me of Dixie Flatliner from neuromancer , contained in a ROM , unable to change or grow.

Am eager to see any of those suceeding whether is by sharding ,Casper,  or using human arbiters to solve dispute in EOS.

The EOS will definitely develop and its concept will find its place in the modern world. I also think that DPOS is a good algorithm.

For now, I can't say so. EOS  team has many problems inside

what I don't like that they are not decentralized at all. And don't need to show that EOS network is very active. it's mostly because of their "cool" games.

both of these coins have their own platforms and of course they have advantages and disadvantages to each other. I don't really understand the EOS program, many say this is an ETH competitor, but I don't see it like that, and in my own opinion for now only the ETH platform is still the best among the others.

I wonder why would the upgrade its scheduled on the end of the 2018, i mean today. Its because of the people are partying on the night.

I am thinking that the concept of the DPOS and the POS in the future will bring much more benefit to the cryptocurrency world than the POW.  I see the POW as an old model and Vitalik Buterin also looks ahead and trying to improve his  project.

Ethereum is only the best at the present time because it has proven itself as being capable of hosting ICOs. EOS is still under development but when released it will be better than ethereum, so best to purchase both coins and hodl

the new update for ethereum will widen the gap between ethereum and eos and other smart contract coins, EOS will have a harder time to surpass ethereum, for me i would rather go all in to ethereum.

Do you think the Constantinople Fork will happen in the mid of January? It should aready happen in autumn 2018 but was deferred? So there might be a possibility, that it is deferred again, because there is another issue coming up.

Preparing a POW-Chain for POS is not an easy task.

Remember the first ETH-Fork, which created ETH Classic and the present ETH, which had to be made because of the desastrous DAC project. So Ethereum only moves, when there is real pressure coming from the community and the market. That POW has it's limits, especially with cryptocurrencies like Ethereum, which have no fixed coin-supply, should have been forseeable for Vitalik and his team much earlier.

I think ethereum is still above eos, the development of eos is good but it can't yet go beyond ethereum, but to make eos investment worthy of consideration, buying this coin and holding it in my opinion is a good step

Yes, there will be a switch on Ethereum from pow to pos and the date when? nobody knows. Everyone is just waiting for that thing until now.

Yes, I know. Waiting and waiting. But they confirmed this fork for mid January. If they do it in time this time, do you think this will give the ETH-price a little push?

Ofcourse yes, ETH and EOS has marginal difference. ETH popularity and it's users are very high that's the reason it was considered as king of Alts it might have dropped now but it will regain its place in a real quick time also I am not saying EOS is not a good one but it is not a competitor to ETH.

yeah ETH is the best coin at this time even though he dropped to third place in coinmarketcap but the popularity of the coin is still high and there are still many people who believe in ETH. it's still too early for EOS to be able to match ETH because it won't will be possible.

EOS is no better than Ethereum. At least EOS is still no bigger than Ethereum. EOS is no match for Ethereum in terms of number of supporters or tokens. Ethereum has more mature technology and Huge community.
Of course, EOS still has great potential, it does have the potential to go beyond Ethereum, but it takes a long time to do it.

alot of known tokens are running the erc20 coins. i havent seen anything eos have done. there mainnet just recently launch so give them time.

EOS is completely different. I would regard, after I have read into the details, that it is the first blockchain-computer, (based on CPU, RAM and NET-bandwith) thus offering more possibilites for DAPPs than ETH.

I would agree, that it is a completely different concept than ETH. So I don't know, if it can even be directly compared.

But you see, that the EOS concept has already its fastest followers, like TRON. (Whereas I think, that TRON will never play an important role, as it is has no major improvements compared to EOS and is too centralized)

For smart contracts, EOS is better than ETH, but EOS has many problems. Although the price of Ethereum is declining, the user base of Ethereum is still very large, and Ethereum 2.0 will soon appear.

I agree. Because EOS is just at the beginning. Remember the problems ETH had, when they started.

But I think in 2019 EOS will gain a lot of users and projects.

For the PoS we just need to wait for that and who knows if Vitalik will surprise us with that update.

EOS is created from the existence of smart contracts that occur in ethereum so that logically eos is no better than ethereum, it's just that maybe the price of EOS is still relatively cheap so that it can have the potential to be expensive and can benefit those who have EOS.

There is a lot of misinformation about EOS. Theoretically the project is very interesting, in practice it is a thousand years behind compared to ETH and will never be able to overcome it.

Honestly, I never took Eos seriously and by and large I do not believe that this coin will achieve anything!

And there is a market within the EOS blockchain: RAM!  Aus users can sell and buy their RAM, this is the first intrinsic market, which came into existence WITHIN a blockchain.

I don't know how to rate this, but it sounds very interesting, I must admit.

eos is one of good altcoins in the crypto, that coin is one of top coins but is not better than ethereum if we see a few days before ethereum get good growth than else coins, thats proof ethereum still best altcoins i think

EOS seems to be a very good coin, and those Asian countries uses it very well. But Ethereum is still the best altcoin, as far as I'm concerned. EOS is really coming up, and I so much believe in the system. However, I still respect ethereum more.

I always prefer the top 5 coins as most precious in crypto currency yes EOS might sound slow now but it has a bright future as lot of analyst are predicting this coin will be a Interesting one in upcoming days. However ETH is always best when compared with this coin.

Good questions… and if I were you I would ignore any answers on here that suggest which one you should pick. The first rule in Crypto is DYOR (do your own research) so that is my answer for you.

Just because of the dapps in EOS doesn't mean win win over ethereum and I'm sure ethereum dev knows what her is doing switching to Proof of Stake algorithm, I will always choose ethereum all day because its caught the bigger investors and developers eye

I agree that EOS is one of many coins that are good, but i don't think it is able to compete ethereum right now.
The way to reach the level of ethereum right now is still a long way to go for EOS to reach it.

it could be, nothing is impossible in crypto,
maybe eth will switch from pow to post,
the reason is simple, the cheaper the coin and the harder it gets to go through pow it will make a loss.
so moving to the post is a must-try option,
like ADA who will switch to the post too.

I think Eos is still under Ethereum, indeed the development of eos is very good, but in my opinion ethereum is still better than eos, even though its value hasn't recovered but ethereum still has many supporters

It may be easily seen just like on coinmarketcap. ethereum has a much better position than the EOS and from this alone already indicates that the ethereum very better of EOS. In addition to the base of the ethereum big enough with its own platform when compared to current EOS.

Well, Ethereum started the smart contract and there's nothing EOS can do better with it. The only disadvantage of Ethereum smart contract is approving worthless project to be on the market since it destroys the reputation of smart contract. Eos, is good also but the potential project managers chooses ETH way more often than EOS.

EOS is no way better than Ethereum in my own view, Ethereum has proven to be the best alt next to bitcoin, It has great developers, as well the real use case for smart contracts and dapps.

Ethereum is indeed undoubted, many have believed and have good development in their performance. For EOS, it still requires a struggle to attract the interested ones, the ability of EOS is actually also good but still in the process and will later become a coin that can compete with others.

I can say for sure that the blockchain is improving. Against the background of the fact that ETH began to rise up. I am sure that the transition to POS will be in the near future.

I do not think that eos is better than ethereum since ethereum has long been on the market and is constantly in the top 5, and this suggests that it is a very attractive coin

To clarify, Longevity of a certain is not an assurance. Yes, it is indeed that ETH has been out on the market for quite some time now, however, ETH's growth phase is quite alarming, if we are to base on the past trends and this year seems to be it's lowest. On the other hand, EOS well it's still early to say that it would be better than ETH, but it has the potential (Well, every coin has the potential) it's future will depend on how it will penetrate the market, and how would it make an effect on the mass.

Actually EOS is good too, but Ethereum now seems better than EOS. It is true that ethereum is now very good. This does not mean that EOS is not good. But only better than ethereum. And I always believe ethereum will continue to increase.

in the end ethereum will use POS. they cannot survive using only POWs. Big mining costs make miners think twice about mining. that's why POS is a way to create a better system.

ethereum might be imitating EOS using a system like this first. but all of that is just my speculation.

eos or ethereum is the best? I think all platforms are good. they have their own strengths and riots. the more platforms that have the same concept the greater the potential for development.

I prefer the Ethereum network despite its many flaws. EOS should not be able to compete with the ETH network in the future after the upcoming upgrade of the ETH network. Some friends have questioned the EOS development ability to freezing wallet in their network while some see it as a way to curb theft and deal with hackers and scammers. EOS might not be too decentralized like the ETH.

Ethereum gave a surprise suddenly. Really amazing matter that overtake XRP. Ethereum was very bad some days ago. I also said EOS is better than Ethereum. But now, my thinking fully changed. Ethereum is always boss than other altcoin.

I think for now ethereum is still better than EOS, although EOS's performance in recent times has increased significantly but I'm sure that ethereum is still better and more feasible to be the second alternative after bitcoin.

I don't think so, I mean EOS is a great platform but ETH is just simply overwhelmed, when it comes to the features though both ETH and EOS shows some of their own advantages and what I like about ETH is with their features on their platform, whilst EOS still has a long way to go, I will wait for about 3 to 4 years or even earlier too see if EOS would grow further.

I could say EOS is almost like ETH, I find it better which lead me to believe the reason why some dapps move to EOS. In terms of price of course its ETH that make its way up but for its technology I think EOS can be as great as ETH due to its scalability and interoperability. At short period of time they already got tons of dapps with them.

The EOS blockchain is ideally created as a better version of Ethereum. Fixing scalability issues of eth and providing better feature all throughout. Although it stated under the ethereum blockchain. But I am now excited to see how ethereum now matches EOS as ethereum blockchain is expecting a hardfork this January.

What's for sure: ETH needs an improvement. Let's see, if the Constantinople Fork can do this. The market is still sceptical.

As I already wrote in another thread, the market manipulation of the big coin hodlers is really a bad thing. As you can, again, see it during the last view days. It destroys the idea of the crypto-currencies.

ETH now on 3rd place again. Although the development was good also concerning the coming up Constantinople fork, which will be very good for the ETH-network.

Concerning EOS, it seems that it is performing a little bit better and not getting so much market pressure than ETH.

But nevertheless, Roger Ver & Co. and their manipulations are desastrous to all good crypto-ideas, no matter if ETH or EOS.  :-[

As far as I know, the EOS project today has a very non-simple blockchain, most likely it looks like a regular registry in notepad, so I think that encryption is better with ETH. The same can be said about blockchain

EOS, of course, needs to undergo upgrades, as ETH needed to do in the course of its development (now again with the Contantinople fork).

As I said in one of my replies before, I see different fields of use for ETH and EOS.

For how centralized and how poorly consensus is reached in EOS, it's remarkably slow. You might as well just pay a cloud provider, no need for a blockchain project.
Ethereum is actually trying to fill a niche that no-one else is filling.

EOS will not be any better than ETH, ETH is upgrading and growing rapidly every day. Look at hard fork 16.1 this will be a big change for ETH and it will create a distance from EOS

ETH will stay. EOS will fade away. There's nothing to compare. EOS looks shady to me. Their super long ICO even looks a bit scammy. The other point is the consensus. ETH is much more decentralized. Also, they lied about the speed. Actual tests showed a lot slower speed. For me, it's just hype and people who buy it only speculate.

eos has great potential but i think it still can not compete with eth, at least not yet,maybe in a few years when there will be more development and will be used by more users, yes eth is preparing for a gradual move to pos that i think with the fork of constantinople but it will be completed in a long time i think at least a year

Ethereum has already proved its importance in universal use. EOS has yet to prove its purpose.

EOS is one of the most promising coins to compete with Ethereum. It has good capitalization and technology capable of quickly processing payments.
However, do not rush to bury Ethereum, it is still in the first place among similar projects.

The growth of EOS is quite good even now it has been developed by large companies, but related to ethereum, of course I always believe in it. this ethereum and coin platform has many users and its potential is quite large, so I think ethereum always gives the best for the future.

After ETH's upcoming hardfork, it will start converting from POW to POS as planned since 2017. With EOS's rapid growth, I think they will soon achieve milestones in their blockchain technology

Perhaps EOS has a promising technology and platform compared to ETH. But the inconvenience of using their wallet and platform, when compared with ETH, is obvious. Therefore, I prefer the ERC-20 platform.

yes, EOS and ETH have their own advantages, therefore everyone has their own opinions on which two coins are better.
and I also like the ERC-20 platform for now but for tomorrow it might change.

EOS is a promising competitor of Ethereum. I am not a technical specialist, I can not say how much his technology is better. However, I can appreciate the fact that new projects are in no hurry to appear in the EOS blockchain. This suggests that ETH is currently more promising.

There arenow some new projects who are now adopting the concept of DPOS. If ETH platform is upgraded and overcomes some barriers, such as scalability, then that makes it much better than EOS, but for other features, ETH is still the best.

As for users, I don't think so. Just try to register their wallet, I spent an hour by doing it while makeing an accout on mew takes 3 minutes. Maybe technically it is better but not for usual users.

So the EOS-chase of ETH has taken a new step.

I personally think, that the POS, which ETH is still lacking, is the reason for this, especially after the constantinople fork announced for mid-January was again postponed due to technical issues and bugs.
This is also no real renommeé for ETH.

ETH today is one of the leading cryptocurrency projects. I hope that this will continue. I think that EOS is today a project that is starting a development that can successfully show itself. I see that cryptocurrency today is a success in the future.

Eos is a good coin and it have much potential but it is not fair if you compare rod to ETH , ETH is most 2nd demand coins Eos never beat ETH.

eos may be good but ethereum is still the best. even though ethereum hasn't used POS yet, their platform is still in demand by many people. that's why I say that ethereum is the best at the moment.

EOS team firstly should complete the development. It is not competitor for Ethereum

I excite too little I know about cryptocurrency, but I always rely on authoritative people in their opinion. I have always been a fan of ethereum, and not other platforms. Although I am also very weak about bitcoin, because ethereum is a leader for me. In addition, if we consider the ico market of a company, then for some reason, the developers first of all choose ethereum, and almost 90% of all companies use rc-20. This is in my opinion a very good indicator.

It seems to me that you have chosen good coins for investment. It is best to invest in two projects at once. This will be correct and reliable.

EOS have very strong technology and their working process is very well, but I think ETH's contract address system is far better than EOS. ETH Contract system makes crypto easy and accessible to everyone. A lot of innovative company come in the crypto platform by using the ETH network. EOS will not able to overcome ETH ever!

It is definitely not better than ethereum. From my point of view EOS is centralized coin unlike ethereum.
So speaking about it ethereum is something different, more popular and common with crypto supporters!

Ethereum have many issue last year and i think EOS have a good technology and the transaction process is good. Ethereum is popular coin and its hard for EOS to replace ethereum right now. But in market, anything could happen and perhaps EOS can replace ethereum in market cap value

There's a hard comparison between the two.  However Ethereum first smart contract space that built a strong community But EOS believe it improves on enough of Ethereum’s shortcomings to dub it the “Ethereum killer.”

Eos and ethereum, each of these two coins certainly has its own differences and advantages, in terms of ethereum quality still above eos, both of these coins are developing very well, both also have their respective supporters and certainly eos and ethereum are potentially good altcoins and profitable for investment

Still far away to compete with Ethereum but EOS have a good chance to be better in the future if the project something good than Ethereum. But if the project is almost similar than Ethereum, then EOS doesn't have any chance to beat Ethereum. But EOS itself have many times and have a long journey as Ethereum in the first year of the project, and if EOS can prove that they are very good, then it's only time will answer.

It is difficult to compare EOS and ETH at the present time, I am not an ETH and EOS fan so maybe my evaluation will be objective. I would choose ETH as altcoin better and ETH more popular than EOS many times, but in the future, I think EOS will be better than ETH

Take some dApp from EOS and try to run it over Ethereum, you will pay a lot of gas fees.

I agree thet EOS will need some staked but they are always yours and you can unstake whenever you want.

depends, I guess the highest quality needs to be fullfiled is the security of the block chain and I guess determining which is better Ethereum or EOS, depends on the number of hash power these two cryptos can make.

Of course ethereum is very good. I'm not saying EOS isn't good. Because the difference between EOS and Ethereum is very much talked about of course there are also many who say the best ethereum and also the best EOS. Because everyone is of course different. So, I personally acknowledge the best ethereum.

I think now both coin are good for investment , and say what coin worse and what better it is difficult, I think most people see only in them lifetime earnings and on this to invest need in both coin !

In order for this to happen, a flurry of news that will wane the market capitalization must be brought to the market. But even they are not enough. Ethereum has long been established and growing. He certainly has chances to even get around Bitcoin.

Yes, ETH will switch to POS. The next upgrade on the path is imminent. In my opinion ETH has been battle-tested in a way that EOS hasn't. I have no opinion on whether or not EOS offers superior tech, but I do see it as more theory than practice at the moment. Maybe it can be better than ETH, maybe not, but ETH is the clear frontrunner at the moment. Also I didn't like EOS's never-ending ICO, that just felt like a blatant money grab to me, which really turned me off the project. There's no way they need that kind of money to support the project.

The EOS project, in spite of its expensive value, has very great opportunities. Especially now when there is a lot of competition on the market. Now there are projects that use EOS for the platform.

Possibly, EOS isn't better than the ETH just because EOS itself was built on the Ethereum netowork as the original token. Nowadays I think EOS can't compete with ETH price wise, but surely in the sense of technology and developing apps they could become a real competitors. Anyway, if you see a reason to hold EOS, there are a lot of wallets to choose from, I would recommend to check out Freewallet: they have no fees for withdrawals and that's great for hodling.

The EOS also had quite a few problems, so there is no reason to compare them. Both technologies are good in their own way.

I think comparing every new altcoin with smart contracts to Eth will not make them better, eth only had the scalability issues because of that it was dragged down but eth 2 is coming in the beginning of 2020 and after this i think eth will clearly move ahead and there will not be much competition left and eth will thrive not only as a project but its value will sky rocket as well.

EOS? Why EOS? I don`t believe it would take place ethereum. Not a single percent, I can say that it is better way than ethereum. I have many ICO`s that I  Joined which uses EOS blockchain. Supposedly, they all turn to scam. Well, even that is not the sin of EOS, still I don`t like that coin. If I will invest my money, I rather to pick XMR or BCH. However, I am respecting those people who are fan of this coin specially you, OP.
