You don't have beans in Utah?  :-\

Anyway, a step forward for BitCoin.

I could send some to you, but packing that stuff safely so that it can be preserved and not leak during transport will be very problematic, not to mention the smell which will attract customs agents...

Actually the beans idea is much better, as there are no shipping/packing complications.

Are you Greek BTW? Or did you just Google translate?

Hey guys.. thanks for you acceptance..
i have to say that i have made my first sell. A kilo pack of greek beans to Great Britain
casascius i know you want to eat some greek feta and this was high in my list for the products i could sell, but as 3phase said is very difficult to send it.
The transfer complications was the second reason i chosed beans. I will send it in bubble rap folder and in a separate bag. This way are actually more secured than the farmers or the delivery chains do it. Also the cost of posting is lower and my bussiness plan is more viable as the product os cheaper for the consumer. And the beans are dryed so humidity and tempature have little harm to do if nothing at all.

Ofcourse the first reason i choused bean is because i like it  :)

I am travelling for a while now and cannot really order these Greek beans,
I love the idea and would like to promote these beans in some albeit small way.

The fifth order for bitbeans is on me. Only four to go it seems.

You actually have to order and pay and upon confirmation from vasilis89 I will pay you back or add on another kilo.

I understand the feta is difficult to send, that is part of what makes it desirable.  It would spoil before it arrived, or else would be too expensive to send.  Just means I will have to get back to Greece some time.

Bean Bitmarket ltd. accepts the challenge. The projections show that the fifth sale will happen sometime next week. If not then i send you a pack just with the posting costs.
You still have to buy the 6th pack because we need revenue :) ...
and beans are protein rich, 6th pack will help you get 6 pack

This seems like an amazing idea! I'd love to see more stuff like this in the Btc community!  I know you say you're not a bean expert and that's cool but do you at least know if the beans are organic or not? If not, is there a way to find out?

Regards,
TMA

I suspect you're buying beans from the laiki agora? (street market)

One thing you should sell from Greece is not beans, but loukoumi.

That is something easy to sell, that people will like, we don't see it Greek style here in the US, and it is something tasty which doesn't spoil easily.

This is great start and I encourage you to encourage other farmers to start doing the same. Hyperinflation of nationally controlled currencies seems almost inevitable given the current climate and the more people that can move to a anti-inflationary currency like bitcoins the better. This is a real solution the OWS protesters should be pushing.

Best of luck with your Beans for Bitcoins!

Hey guys. Greek here too. That was a nice idea!

Offtopic but how do you buy BTC here in Greece? Which way is the less costly?

try joining the OTC market (http://bitcoin-otc.com/) and find out if you can trade in person with ppl in your country, use established exchanges like TradeHill  (https://www.tradehill.com/) or MtGox (https://mtgox.com/) and few others or buy them with paypal on VirWox (https://www.virwox.com/), a little tricky atm as you will have to buy lindens first and then trade them for bitcoins.
You can open another thread on this if you want ;)

I think what is really needed is actual companies to start using bitcoin for the currency to find an established value. Right now it is all speculation related behavior with bitcoins or direct transfer of bitcoin to USD...
