Title: I have 10 merit to give for Jr.Members and newbies [ Finished]
Post by: mikeywith on January 11, 2019, 12:59:56 PM
I see a lot of complain from people that only high rank members get merit and so on, this is really not the case, many Legendary members have way less Merit than lower ranked members, if you are not getting Merit then your posts are very likely unworthy of any.

I am giving 10 merit only to Jr and newbies.

rules are

1- only 1 post per user.
2- posts related to ICO's will not be considered at all.
3- you don't have to say anything, just post the link of your post that you think i should merit

edited:
4: The post must be in English , i forgot to mention this but i thought it's obvious, i can't merit something that I don't even understand, i need to read it, and judge if there is any effort put into it, even if the post is merited by many other people i can't merit it if I don't get it !

* will lock the topic once the 10 merits are given out

current merit count = 0

I hope this will encourage some people to start posting quality posts.

Good luck

I tend to ignore most post offered to me for merits, they tend to be boring and of low value. It's much more fun to spend some time cruising through the indexes looking for interesting topics. You learn all sorts of new things that way. I find that it is often best to visit the third or fourth index pages for a popular board. That way you can avoid the low value threads that are being bumped by the bounty spammers.

In most cases i do not care about merit, but this time i will give it a try because seems like the rank system means something to other people.

Let's give it a shot then!

You did not specify if the posts must have been posted in the general forum. Hopefully, it is not a necessity :)
The post I've shared is a handful of compiled statistics about merit circulation on local Polish forum, created to
initiate a local community 'revival'.

There's an already existing thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5085605.0/) doing this same act, you  can get the links there.  There's no need opening a new thread for this.  Just indicate your interest of contributing 10merits on the thread or better still send OP the merit as other users have done.
I'm sure very soon mods will have to start moving the merit related threads to Off-topic board.

It is not the same act, sir.
Here is a similar thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5092247.msg49011065#msg49011065/) doing exactly what's he about doing why then flood this board with giveaways

It is not the same act, sir. In the thread you pointed out, the merit points are awarded to Newbie Members for a Chance to Rank Up To J. Member.
In this very thread, both Newbie and J. Members have a chance to be awarded a point :)

Exactly, mods have allowed this because admin allowed few such type of threads doing sharing activity until it doesn't look like the OP is trying to incentivize for their posting (as asking for xx number of posts to check before giving merits increases the possibility of huge spam being spread by newbies). If OP really wants to help and if their motive is selfless, they can give those merits to the person who is already doing the same thing before them already (just an advice). Else, if OP is satisfied with their thread going to off-topic section but are still willing to help, I guess they should keep up the good work and keep it going.

...

It would work better if members were to present posts which were not posted by them, this would curb those who simply look for their most presentable post, whether or not it's worthy of merit. But this wouldn't work either, as most will not burden themselves with that task, and those that do would likely be suggesting posts from their alts.

The best option in merit giving, is to take out time to scan the forum for quality posts.
If you regularly visit the forum and engage in discussions, the should not he tasking.

We already have those type in the forum and we don't need this board to be spam by giveaways. If you see a post worth meriting use the Report unmerited good posts to Merit Source (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5093271.0/) or *FREE merits - CLICK HERE!!! * (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5031461/) and for your good reports you might get some free merit as encouragement. (I'm a beneficiary of it)

better still send OP the merit as other users have done.

do you even understand how Merit works? so I send the OP you talking about 10 merit, he ends up with 5 Smerit so smart ! , plus this is clear that i want to help newbies and members rank up, i can't do this by Meriting someone who is offering to help other members rank up. it doesn't work this way.
--------------------------------------------------------
anyway i appreciate the contribution and i would ask people not to spam this topic , the rules are clear, if you are a newbie or jr.member post 1 post that you think deserves merit, if you want to discus an alternative way of doing this, start your own topic and host the talk there, i would like to scroll down and see only LINKS to posts so i can do this easier.

Thanks.

I guess it's not your headache to think whether it would be legal or not; as if it wouldn't have been, admin/s or a mod would have already sent it to Off-topic section where most such threads are being moved nowadays. If we don't discuss/debate on this, how will the average Joe be able to understand the concept that's been made understood a 100 times in many different threads? /s

take > https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5096219.msg49189412#msg49189412 " last merit received" for an example.

not a rocket science, he saw a problem, proposed a reasonable solution. while not everyone will have the same point of view as i do, this is a fair enough start. Find issues, look for a solution, propose it, even if you fail to get merit, you at least helped someone out which is way more important than merit itself IMO.

Well I don't know if this is even important you can still go around and look for a merit worth post and merit it

I understand the Bitcointalk ranking system, System Merit was made to improve the quality of posts on Bitcointalk by requiring users to have a number of achievement points to increase rankings.

Users can no longer post large amounts or spamming to achieve high rankings. In addition to being active (getting activity), users also have to make good quality posts to get achievements from other people and can rise to higher rankings.

That's why I keep trying to provide quality posts so that I can continue to follow the ranking system. thank you

Newbies and jr. members should appreciate the OP for giving a chance (even it's 50/50 chance but worth the time) to earn their first merit merit or another merit. I find the IDEA of OP to reward newbie and jr. members out there to get 1 merit for the meritable post they provide, In this case the OP won't have to search and scan the forum to find the suitable person/poster in bitcointalk forum as we all know takes time to find one. It may not be a good idea to other people out there but I think the merits to be rewarded will not put to waste as the requirements for the reward (merit) is a meritable, constructive and can contribute to the people and in the forum. More power to OP and to those who help the OP.

What is merit and is it earned can someone explain it to me since I can find any threads related?

Think of it as a reputation system. Merit points are given when users find the contents helpful and insightful.

For example, you decided to open a thread on explaining how the Merit system works in the Beginners subforum. Some liked the content you posted and gave you merits. Congrats, now you have some!

But then, what are they really for? As you climb the ranks from a newbie up to Legendary, more merits are needed to achieve them. By ranking up, you unlock more perks, mainly avatar and signature features spaces to participate in signature bounties and advertising campaigns.

Easy, let's start then! Wait, my young padawan, ranking up take lots of time and effort to make it to the top:
> Jr. Member - 1 merit
> Member - 10 merits
> Full Member - 100 merits
> Sr. Member - 250 merits
> Hero - 500 merits
> Legendary - 1000 merits

And no, you cant buy merits, only earn as you eventually understand how the forum works.

Btw if I made a mistake in the prerequisites, lemme know so I'll change it.

Is merit really important to get you by here, how do you earn or where do you buy it?
Merits isn't really "important",if you actually do not mind remaining a newbie for all your days in here and definitely not ranking up in the process, then it's fine not to worry yourself about merits
But if actually you wish to at one point or the other participate in a bounty and probably try to earn, you'll definitely need merits to rank up,as only users from Jr member and above are allowed to actually put on a signature and advertise for certain projects

You earn merits by sharing important knowledge and information,in a quality and novel manner, not like it was said in the past,or copy pasting information as that will lead to your ousting from the forum

You cannot buy merits but you can purchase a copper membership rank to actually give you certain privileges, you can purchase it Here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=credit;promote)

I'm not quite sure what your goal is but one thing i'm sure is you want a merit to become jr. member. For now, your english grammar needs improvement. I'll help you with some tips to improve your english grammar. First, search in google or youtube for english learning tutorials and later on you'll know how to construct a paragraph or sentences about the topic you are in.

Better to learn something new first mate, you might also want to consider learning English grammar. Getting Merit isn't difficult as long as you are eager to learn and make some contributions (sharing your learned lessons).
I really doubt you'll get any of these if you didn't start changing yourself. Nobody can help you here son, you should learn how to adjust, Nobody will consider giving you a reward if you're acting like a beggar that you shouldn't be doing.

Can you explain briefly why are you used nonsense color on your thread which discourage me to read it. It's really annoying if you use unnecessary color. It's not Ann thread that you have to design nicely. Main thing is your content really what you are going to explain. May be few members will keep on ignore if you make unnecessary color, front size etc. So try to make your topic simple then people's will encourage to read it. And try to avoid pyramid quote.

mikey, I believe that thread like this are disallowed if they are rewarding merit to posts that were created after this thread was created. This is so that there can be no misconception of incentivizing posting in any way. Consider implementing this into your rules :P

Okay Sir! I will keep that in mind from next time i create a new thread that i might think will be interesting and be of help to the community.
Just i thought a bit of color might put bit of glory to my post x.Thank you for your time and patience to check out my thread.

PS: Just rectified my fault and changed the color to "black" so that from next time i don't rely to depend on choosing colors which seems to make my small informative posts look dull. :)

all posts prior to this have been evaluated, only 1 merit left.

Can you explain briefly why are you used nonsense color on your thread which discourage me to read it.

indeed, the colors are disturbing to say the least,if i wasn't kind of "obligated" to read the post  "which happens to be informative IMO" i would have simply ignored it. the colors, the symbols, the font size everything about it keeps you from reading it, it's probably why he got no merit for it.

everyday we learn something new, but are you sure there are any rules related to that matter? if there is i think they are unnecessary, if threads like this are going to bring more quality posts to the forum, what's wrong with that?

thanks for the input Bill

1 merit left.

the recent 4-5 posts are good, not bad at all, but just not good enough to grab this one last merit. feel free to try again.

i am running low on merit. so after the remaining 1 merit is sent, i will leave the topic open because i see other people interested in giving you merit which is good. i will be back again after i have another 10 sMerit to be shared with Newbies and Jr.Members.

Good  because some one is presenting to give merit. As I notice a lot of account was banned I don't know why?  and merit are very hard to get even one. Ooh it's so sad :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X

I think posting for merit defeats the whole idea of merits in the first place. If people did respond to discussions in an intelligent way to contribute in a fruitful manner so the question is answered or the argument is taken forward towards a conclusion you will automatically get merit and also the forum will become a much useful place to be for everyone. Unfortunately because of the bounties everyone just tried to post just for the heck of posting and so there more clutter on threads than real discussion.

I want it please.

and i want to marry Kim  ::)

do not beg for merit, you will get yourself in trouble.

---------------------------------------------------------

10th merit was given out.

Merit count = 0

I hope the 10 guys who got merit will keep posting some good content, and those who did not, don't feel sad, just stick to quality posts, eventually you will get there, also note that my judgment is different from others, some might think it's worth merit, but honestly i just didn't think so.

sadly i will have to lock this topic , tho i wish i could keep it so that other members can merit those new posts if they think they worth meriting, but the mistake i made was not making a self-moderated thread, and some people clearly don't read local rules, therefore i have to lock this.

Good luck everyone.
