Title: "Tour de Satoshi" This guy is trying to promote BTC by doing a bike tour.
Post by: vit05 on January 13, 2019, 04:52:26 AM
Throughout the year, I started imagining myself playing a more active role in the bitcoin ecosystem and even earning bitcoin instead of Euro. The thought sounded ludicrous at first but then I thought why not?! I am, however, neither a developer, nor an educator, nor the type of business owner who can pay and get paid in bitcoin. So, I asked myself, what could I do to at least enhance the awareness and adoption rate of bitcoin. In other words, what would bitcoin do if it were a company (which obviously it is not!) to get more recognition and acceptance?

As a sports enthusiast, my immediate thought was that it would improve its image and adoption by increasing its PR and marketing activities through sponsorships of perhaps a sport team. It would probably also hire sales staff to convince other businesses to accept bitcoin, not to mention paying its own employees in this currency. All this to say, that I combine my two passions for sports and bitcoin and found a decentralized and sponsorship-based sports team called “team satoshi”, named after Satoshi (Nakamoto) obviously, the anonymous founder(s) of bitcoin.

I believe that if bitcoin were to play its role in the kind of world that I am imagining for humanity, it requires universal adoption. For this to become a reality, bitcoiners have a responsibility to spread not only the word but to also invest bitcoin itself in increasing its adoption and recognition through donations in PR activities, inviting nocoiners to join the community, and support those who have the skills to promote bitcoin like any other currency requiring education prior to adoption. I, for example, have been giving bitcoin as a gift for birthdays, Christmas and wedding presents in the hopes that it will intrigue nocoiners and the like.

As the 10th year anniversary of bitcoin, to many known as the Genesis block, approaches on January 3rd, it seemed as the perfect opportunity to use its celebration combined with the newly founded sports team, team satoshi, to raise awareness and adoption of bitcoin: a winter bike tour from Florence (the birthplace of modern banking) to Frankfurt (home to the European Central Bank (ECB)). The tour is called “Tour de Satoshi” and of course it starts on January 3rd!

I believe that this type of attitude is important for the promotion of the BTC. When asking a store or hostel owner why he does not receive payments on BTC, this will naturally make him think and research how he could receive.

looking for creative people with lots of ideas to realize big adoption is very difficult, because most bitcoiners want to take profits quickly and are reluctant to increase the price of bitcoin, what they are pursuing is profit rather than increase

I really like the approach. I am not really much into sports but I guess there are other ways to promote bitcoin and educate the "nocoiners".

Majorly the price is rose or fallen when the big whales make some movement either of buying/selling which leads to the market upward or downward fall. Anyways it is always better to promote the btc as much as possible by everyone so that people can make use it in daily life and also can create a new earning for the person.

I think the missing piece is that he should not only be advertising Bitcoin, but also some resource where people can learn about it.
Unfortunately if they don't know how central banks work, they'll never understand the value proposition.
Do you guys know an all-in-one place to learn EXACTLY why bitcoin is valuable? That would be worth advertising.

He is not the first person, but there are a lot of people like initiatives such as travel using bitcoin, a trip around the world using that currency, one day without any central currency and so on.
those initiatives are beautiful if not unique, wish him success.
I do not think Bitcoin needs to know but to increase awareness of its use in everyday life rather than speculations.

Very inspiring that a person does this without any fee but doing it for free for the benefit of the growing cryptocurrency industry. I hope that many more will be inspired and promote on their own way what bitcoin is really is and will benefit humanity with a fairer and equal investment for everyone who wants to be knowledgeable about bitcoin. This is a big boost for every cryptocurrency enthusiast that is truly ab advocate for change in the world wide market.

This is a cool idea, I worry that it will fall short when it comes to funding. Without funding it will struggle for publicity and even for significant participation. One of the biggest issues with a decentralized system like bitcoin is that there is no central entity to provide funding for marketing etc.

We can help him by donating some of our Bitcoins to his address, but I doubt the majority of people here would help him tbh. Anyway, I believe the key to adoption is when people can learn and use Bitcoin as a money rather than speculative asset. With the advance of LN and so on, maybe we can see more adoption for Bitcoin as payment by the majority of people in another decade. Let's see what happens.

It's a new way of promoting bitcoin to the public, and I am sure they will curious especially for the people who don't know anything about bitcoin. You are doing a good way for bitcoin, and I am sure that many of us will do with the other way to spread the news about bitcoin. Soon or later, people will ask you about bitcoin, and I hope you can explain to them what is bitcoin and you can help them to learn more about bitcoin.

PS: I want your bags. lol, :D Just a joke :D

Although I am not good at long-distance bicycle trips, I think activities like "Tour de Satoshi" should be supported, which is more attractive than the way of verbally promoting bitcoin.
I don't know if their trip will go through what countries, maybe they should go on a world tour.

I don't know if Bitcoin needs people out promoting it, but I definitely don't think brands like Coke need to buy Superbowl advertisement to get people to drink their stuff but I must be fooling myself since we all know advertisement works.
In case of Bitcoin or crypto currencies in general, the timing is very important. If you run advertisements of any sort of crypto (or even an exchanging service) during a bear market, it could very easily work against you.

The majority has seen Bitcoin in the mainstream media pump to $20,000 and tank to $3000, and those who got into crypto in 2017 are rekt right now. In other words, the first group will laugh in your face, and the second is still angry.

I would say that Bitcoin related promotion followed by education is good, but pure marketing strategies to hype up the industry not. It will yet again lead to an influx of get rich quick noobs while we have so many of them already.

This is a nice and creative way to promote Bitcoin and keep healthy at the same time. Too bad, I am not staying at his cycling route, or else I will find time to support him.

Maybe depends on people itself, sometime people interested with something like this. But there are people who don't care about technology too. If a lot of people can attracted, so his way is good and i think we can do it in our place.

this is more like what a bitcoin enthusiast would do and it may not be to actually get people to buy bitcoin as it is the purpose of advertisements. and I think it is a good thing to "spread the word" in any way possible and show people that none of the FUD that they have been hearing for years havebeen true.

Very positive story which help promotion of BTC, in a somewhat unusual way. Although 10 days do not seem so much, yet this was a pretty demanding project because it took place in the winter period. Also it is interesting that Vitus Zeller on his journey is try to pay all its costs in BTC, and he succeeded in doing so in seven days which is a very good result.

The journey was successfully completed on January 13 in Frankfurt, and you can see all that he is experienced on his journey day by day.

One single person is no going to change much of a thing because in order to advertise something you need a lot of money for advertising and a lot of people to do this work. Of course it's still possible with only one single person to do everything but you have to sacrifice some things and be smart and creative to find some inovative ways to promote this things.

Tour de  Satoshi is a nice way to increase the exposure of Bitcoin. A lot of people are aware of the cryptocurrency but are scared to use it because of its high volatility and the security challenges of hacking and scamming in crypto space

I was so curious from what he did but how far this way will be effective and i'm not sure everyone he met will be interested to know more about bitcoin but indeed besides all of it we should be appreciate it and for me as long there is people who willing to spread good words to introduce bitcoin then i will consider those people were really love bitcoin and they want bitcoin can be reach higher achievement than now

Since the media and other information sources are not usually doing a good work in promoting, sensitising and creating awareness for Bitcoin usage and adoption, I think activities like this is a very welcomed development. But the question now is how long will this go to achieving a single purpose. Furthermore, aside from outside promotion, we also need some in-house sensitisation of Bitcoiners, almost all us are here for the money.

Beyond your comment, which I quite agree with, I think I like the thought the OP wears in his comment as signature. Yes, asking people why they don't accept bitcoin for payment will sort of make them more inquisitive about Bitcoin.

Perhaps one man can not do much to promote BTC, but may encourage others to do something similar. Only one man is invented BTC and blockchain, and he change the way people think about money and finances. Therefore, you should never underestimate one man, if he is doing something good, then in any case it is better than millions of people who do nothing.

I would like to see photos from this tour.

I would like to you start reading more then only first post, then you would see that I posted link to Vitus Zeller medium profile, with day by day description of the event.

This is hundred percent amazing! Its really nice to see that he promotes bitcoin in a different way which is cool. Well its a great way to make people interested  , some people wants to invest and earn huge profit and some of them doesn't know bitcoin or they think that its a scam but we can help them and tell them about bitcoin in a good way so they can make sure that they make the right choice.

I know I'd have trouble completing even half of that trip, I think he did it in a pretty short amount of time considering the distance.
His blog posts don't seem to have gotten that much attention, so I don't think it has that much impact.

Gave him some claps on Medium though, if anyone here has an account, I recommend doing the same.
I quite liked his writing.
