Title: Monero Network hashrate spike
Post by: carlosmonaco on January 13, 2019, 02:12:51 PM
Hello ,
Do you know what is hapening on XMR Network hashrate.
Network hashrate is now 550Mh/s versus 300Mh/s some days ago ?
Asics are back ?
FPGA ?

is there any information regarding these FPGAs ?
where to buy ?
cost ?
if they are responsible for that monero spike

Probably private farms at this moment.

There FPGA and updated software for ASICs on private pools from China. Monero team has to prepare new anti-ASIC update.

There's no updated software for old CN ASICs. Some manufacturers do have CNv2 ASICs though, don't expect them to ever be for sale though.

There is more info about the hash rate spike on the monero reddit posted at

https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/agysnf/hashrate_discussion_thread/

Basically to sum it up the hashrate is not coming from the 3GB GPUs which can't mine ETH anymore since the ETH difficulty hasn't changed enough to account for the increase. Plus they are also not profitable.

Some FGPA manufacteur claims that its possible to make a 100kh/s FGPA. And most likely they are trying to ROI as fast as possible before an ASIC or another faster FGPA is released before the algo forks again. Seems it only takes about 2-3 months or so to develop an FGPA.

This is wild guess; but since 7 nm Vega hits the streets on February 7; maybe someone bought shipping container or two in advance... :))
Can anyone guesstimate hash rate of new 7 nm RX Vega?
