Title: Price Check: 2011 1 BTC Casascius 2nd version
Post by: rxalts on January 14, 2019, 10:17:07 PM
As title says would like a price check for ungraded 2011 BTC Casascius Brass 2nd version and just for fun say a graded 62-64. Thx me!

Tough call on these.  One in the 62-64 range I would guess would go for 1.3-1.5 depending on buyer.

I'd love to know how many of these sales go through and how many are trouble free sales. Do any regular traders on here sell on Ebay too? The prices always seem to be vastly higher than the ones achieved here. As is the risk of course.

On Ebay UK it's impossible to list anything other than a classified ad. No option to buy is on the page.

There's an error here for a bargain $16-17,000 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Casascius-2011-with-error-fully-loaded-includes-all-forks/273626898991?hash=item3fb56f222f:g:Gb0AAOSwXCBaSoSP

I know some that have and been successful, personally I'd be too scared of a peel and PayPal return claiming it was peeled when they got it.  Sold one piece of bitcoin hardware there and good ol' ebay/PayPal let them return it to me after they ran the miner for awhile

Well, if you don't trade on this forum (or know about this forum), where else could you buy one besides ebay?

It's not like you can walk into a local coun shop and pick up a Casascius.  Caldwell doesn't sell them anymore.  I see a few retail ecommerce shops selling them, but prices are even higher than ebay.

If I were in the market for one, I'd probably check here...  then check ebay.

As a buyer fine, but as a seller too many things can go wrong in my opinion.  Bad enough PayPal/ebay are adverse to crypto, but hey ho to each their own.  But as a buyer no issues your right

As a seller on ebay I would never sell loaded crypto coins, way too risky. for example: paypal get moneyback, how too prove stuff if buyer isn't satfied with product and wants money back (and in worse case he/she peels coins, claims, replies hologram and then sends coin back: you're f*ck eitherway)

Never crossed my mind that this could happen, but with a treacherous buyer this indeed a big thread.
"Luckily" I really hate ebay and their high provision on every sale, that's why I stayed away from it if possible.

These have been on eBay with this seller for months - don’t believe any have been sold . Appears dodgy ?

Much more likely that they're ruinously overpriced. That seller's prices have been consistently 2-4x the spot price even at the $20,000 level. They had 50 Casascius coins up for sale for a lengthy time which is enough to buy a town or two where they're located.

also ebay prices are higher since ebay and PayPal take there cut plus people buying there don't have BTC or know about this forum which is why there is a premium

and... if you buy 1 BTC now for 6K and 3 years later 1 BTC is worth 12K you made a nice profit

Putting BTC into buying a Casascius coin premium wise is basically throwing a decent chunk of it away within a reasonable time frame, and you may never recoup it. If you pay and think in dollars then it doesn't really matter.

Nope.. I just had a successful transaction with them :D

That listing has been up for a few years now... and yes, quite overpriced.
Being a newbie - this is all very informative, thanks for passing on your valuable knowledge folks😁
