We’ve read news about Russia investing in bitcoin, as well as bitcoin accounts becoming active, and word of whales returning. Chinese New Year also approaches. We’ve also expected ethereum price to spike leading up to split. However, prices remain low. What’s the likelihood that ethereum will rise following the hardfork? Will the trend continue or will this rise be temporary? I have a feeling that we’ll see another drop, and not see a rise until 2nd quarter at the earliest. However, if there is a chance for an ethereum growth, today might be the last day to purchase.

It's not an actual news, it's an hearsay, a rumor.
I also have that feeling that a drop would come, usually when Chinese New year comes the market goes on low. But I don't know and I'm not sure on what will happen for this year. The hasn't been so good for 2018 and this year is just starting, give it space for your expectations.

About rusia investing in the bitcoin seems only a rumour. I guess if OP is not understand and it looks like the correct rumour is about rusia was legalizing the bitcoin mining activity.
Don't expect a lot from chinese new year and that's only a rumour.

The way I see it, we are still in "accumulation period". Bull run as many are saying won't be coming anytime soon.
 

I do not expect an immediate price growth after the hardfork. It will probably take an ethereum 1x or ethereum 2.0 launch to really push its price.

Yes it is logical the price to spike before the split, not after. The chances are now that ETH will remain low. Unless bitcoin with some breaking news pulls everything up. With regards to other nations like Russia investing in bitcoin, it would be wise on their part if they invest, but they don't seem to get it. The nation that gets it, and has some money to invest, will be a huge winner one day when bitcoin starts to rule over all the other currencies, including fiat, crypto, bonds, and others.

I am not sure of the rumors you are telling, I believe more that the increase in altcoin ethereum was triggered by the increase in bitcoin or the demand for ethereum coins is increasing. especially if there is positive news, of course this will increase the price back in the market.

In my opinion, the year 2018 was a very interesting year for the cryptocurrency, the rise of stablecoin's and a lot of great achievements has been witnessed although none of them really created any impact on the market! the prices of cryptocurrency are in freefall! I don't think these rumors of forks will create any good.

It is difficult to raise prices in this market because we are facing many problems in society and the trade war is greatly affecting our investment. I think we should wait until the market actually recovers to consider investing in ETH because ETH is not a good choice at this time.

We are all waiting for the growth to come, not just for ethereum but the market as a whole. Trying to purchase at a low will be beneficial but nobody knows when we hit bottom and when market improves. I missed the $81 purchase, and am unsure whether I should purchase at current price or if prices will drop further.

I am almost sure that we will not see the result right away, most likely after a while, but not the fact that this will be a big increase!

Think about it. Buyers of ETH just want that new token for them to sell it. BCH is already a good example of it.

I have talked to friends and they are really hoarding more ETH as much as they could just for it and then a sudden sell could also happen.
Profit from both new token and the pump. Newbies will be a victim again if they dont know about this.

no future results can predict for sure, even if ethereum has done hardfork it is no guarantee that ethereum and other crypto currencies will improve in the future.

My opinion decreased, with the enactment of Ethereum hard fork, it does not guarantee that ETH prices will go up again like last year. if you look at current ETH price movements, the ETH price will actually decline again.

I don’t mind the decline, eth is a promising project with a bright future and am happy to hold long term. A purchase at current price will still profit in 5 years time. But if prices are dropping further, it’s better to wait for a lower price.

Rumors about the fact that in Russia they invest in Bitcoin are wrong, but the fact that Ethereum will start growing after the upgrade is quite real!

Ethereum actually rope exponentially in the past but it couldn't maintain the momentum for long and dipped again, but I am optimistic that before the fork, we would see an improvement.

I am not sure that the price of Ethereum after the hard fork will increase. Even more decline from current prices. Hardfork is the worst way to increase the price of Ethereum.

I don't think it is true what the news about the Russian government will invest money to Bitcoin. The rumours can not be true. They said that Russia will be invested 10 billion USD to Bitcoin. 10 Billion! Market Cap is about
$122 billion now. It is so big amount to invest for a country (get tax from its citizens)

usually as I've said, when there's a Chinese a new year the market starts to slump but we don't know if the dips will continue up to that day.

I think this month we will not get happiness in crypto because there are also many fake news, also here, for now it is currently postponed out of caution.

I think Hardfork Eth will not give an increase in value, but now the value is decreasing. So bitcoin does affect all altcoin values. Russia legalizes BTcoin and this does not affect crypto value. Likewise with Chinese New Year, what is in my mind is only a temporary drop in coins.

it all boils down into how investors will react about the fork. The ethereum constantinople fork has been delayed because of security issue, for me we really need to have a good security first, i think that the price of ethereum goes down from 150$ to 120$ because of thinking that there's always got probelm when it comes to ethereum fork and people loses hope. In the other hand, i think that this fork of ethereum is not going to have any big impact on its price. Until people realizes good things the fork has brought us. So for me it will also take a while like you said.

so many unclear rumors at this time. who knows what that means? whether for raise prices? and for ethereum, I have not seen any price increases. although ethereum will be hardfork. Is there a price increase for Hardfork this time? or maybe, the increase will occur in the second quarter of this year.

the last news for ethereum fork was its delay due to the security reason.there is vuln in its code so they have to fix it before fork happen.and i think it could bad news.

The Constantinople hard fork that was scheduled for today has now been delayed due to a security issue

This is the only speculation recently about whether it will just be riding because of hardfork. even in fact only no effect increase even higher because hardfork to ethereum occurs. coupled with the approaching Chinese new year feasts that will certainly be a lot of selling of assets for their needs. What new token are you talking about? Only improvements in ethereum are expected today, no new token will appear. Improvements should lead to a rise in the price of ethereum, but not immediately. I don't think there will be a new token after Hardfork Eth, but the price increase does not happen, but it needs to improve the system to survive. For this reason, eth is still good for investment. Trust in eth is still strong and growing in the community.

If I can remember correctly every Chinese new year price always stay low ,I'm still waiting to see what the outcome will be and so sign of big whales joining the train for now.

I would not say that Russians are investing in Bitcoin, if few do, but it’s hard to say about Ethereum, the launch of hard forks was postponed and it’s not clear how the coin will behave further!
