Edits can be checked by the admins anyway, according to theymos, so this is kind of useless.

Damn sorry to hear man. I hope you find him. Also, is there any reason you decided to loan someone 5 BTC when they don't have a single trust rating??? I'm confused...

Trust rating are shit, they should be done away with. People pay people for ratings and to give others negative ratings and its all perfectly with in forum rules.

That's why you look for people you trust in other peoples trust ratings and ask them, I trust almost everyone I have felt with and don't leave trust unless I can actually trust them.

But the problem with that is only you see the trust you leave them. The whole trust system is BROKE like a JOKE.

Strange I can read all the trust you've sent and received. Just people don't know how to use it.

5 BTC is an extremely good payoff for a Sr. Member account registered in 2011 - he had no trust ratings, I agree that you should have taken some collateral :/ He may even have been hacked. Sorry, but it's unlikely anyone will have info on him.

You seem to have a good amount of BTC yourself. How about you offer that up for some folks to obtain such information.
Although I have to ask, how do you intend to obtain the loan funds once you know his identity?

Why would you loan 5 BTC to someone with no trust and no collateral?

Your BTC is most likely gone  :-\

Considering the amounts involved I think a savage beating is in order.

Whatever info you find on the account creator is probably not going to be the same person that scammed you. I have been seeing a few people selling older senior and hero member accounts. It could easily be one of those situations (or hacked account as another person stated).
Either way, sounds rough.

I don't believe this is the case,
He had a newsletter https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=509527.0
And he used the email written in his profile to send the news letters.
Also, If you follow the bitcoins I sent him it seems they ended up in an exchange or something like that
and not stored in some private persons wallet.
May be I'm naive (again) but I think that something may have happen to him and the coins are stuck in one of the exchanges
and all I need to do is find out where they are.

bump

sorry about this. I wondered what had happened to arepo. His TA posts were often valuable and he really did seem like a nice genuine guy. I also got the feeling that his gmail was actually his real name, but the question would be is he in UK or US. I guessed US. I also saw him as fairly young, having just graduated a physics degree or something similar (he was forthcoming about this on many occasions), but not into post grad yet.

That's the best I can offer. I didn't read the context of the loan, but I guess even the seemingly nicer people can be swayed by greed

well 5btc without collateral was a big bet, and in such cases odds are high that you will probably lose your btc unless you know borrower personally.

things are adding up.

guy with little money is loaned a large amount of money with zero collateral. Libertarian I might add. All the power to him.

shame, I assumed he was a "good member of this community"...

I honestly can't say I wouldn't be tempted myself though in his position
