Title: 🐦[INFOGRAPHIC] A Simple Guide to Merits and Rankings for Newbies. 🐦
Post by: SplitBirb on January 21, 2019, 04:00:46 AM
Just an infographic I made for new members to learn about merits and rankings. Also a few tips and information about copper membership.

As a visual learner its easier for me to remember and retain information this way than reading just paragraphs of text. :)

If you would like some information added let me know. :)

I appreciate you for the effort mate, you can learn a lot from other infograph below and maybe put some information concerning merit source and consequences for merit abusers and give info on how to send merit and type of posts that get merited and maybe a link to my update on merit giveaways threads (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5096125.0/) *winks*

Other infograph on Merit.

I forgot to mention, if anyone wants this infographic translated just provide me the text. :)

This can help new members in local language sections that have the same questions I had answered for them.

This may be known facts on the forum, and I think the number that are already privy to this information is a large one
Another thing is all this are in the forum rules and instead of an infographic you can help newbies by always linking them to the forum rules to read more and learn more
If you're going to make an infographic, youll have to add stuffs that are your unique ideas and not well know facts

Thanks for sharing your feedback although i disagree with your point of view of my infographic being useless. I will however add more information and update it as I learn more.  :)

Hello the SplitBird,

I have a small suggestion for you.
Your infographics is well designed, and better than some of older ones, but it looks too big, and takes lot of space.
I known that users can edit the size of it by using the width option, like this:
Code:
[img width=x][/img]
I still think that it might be better if you resize your original infographics a little bit smaller.

One more thing, the table like this is easier to compare requirements between ranks.
RankRequired activityRequired merit
Brand new00
Newbie10
Jr Member301
Member6010
Full Member120100
Sr. Member240250
Hero Member480500
LegendaryRandom in the range 775-10301000
You should edit your infographic with table. It might be better than the current version.

Thank you for your recommendation. I forget I'm using 4k resolution and it might be too large for 1080p monitors. I resized the image, please refresh and let me know if it's better.  :)

Well great work you have put into this but still very similar to the already pinned merit and rank system I would advice you direct such good hard work to other issues and create more interesting post and you would also be a proud owner of a or some merit

Your effort to make the infographic is really appreciated.
Infographics should be used carefully with resize and/ or width option in order to have relevant image inside threads.
Over-large images will make threads/ topics really hard to follow.

Is the image still large for you? Can you show me a screenshot how it looks in your computer?  It looks great on my screen also on 1080p laptop. I want it to be a good size for all members.

Very true,  I owe him 1merit for that too the moment i get another merit adding to my unspendable 0.5 making it 1smerit he gets 1merit from me. I'm out of smerits that's why I haven't merited him since I saw this thread

Much appreciated. Also just to add I made this post for new members with more visual learning capabilities. I saw the "newbies read here before posting" thread but its just text. It is much harder for me to retain information that way. I am not here to gain merits or for financial gain, i have a comfortable life as a developer and just want to give back with my skillset. If anyone has ideas of what important information can be turned into an infographic for the community please let me know, i will be glad to make it in my spare time.  :)

It works well.
My previous recommendation is for general use of infographics.
Over using infographics and with over large size always result in annoying threads.

One more thing, when quoting threads with infographics, I tend to snip images/ infographics to save more space.
Personally, it think it the best option when quoting threads with infographics.

Infographics are a kind of on/off thing. The first ones on a given topic draw some attention, and they may help a fair share to clarify some content in a seamless manner, but after a while, they become redundant in a sense. Take for example the topic you have chosen, there are already six linked in the thread that verse on  Merit & new rank requirements (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2818350.msg28856522#msg28856522). They came out pretty close to the launch of the Merit System, and were created to help clarify the concepts.

Lately, there have been some changes to the DT system (Default Trust), and two or three infographics have been created on the matter and posted on Meta, but really it’s the early birds that get the worm.

Note: Your design is nice; it’s just that there are plenty of infographic on the topic already, linked within the  Merit & new rank requirements (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2818350.msg28856522#msg28856522) thread itself.

What is the reason for your negative comment? As a new user I did not see any infographics done for merits and ranks hence why i made it. Im sure other new members have not seen the other infographics either. I respect your comment but disagree completely that its redundant. Unlike others I'm not here to gain merits or to join signature campaigns for financial gain and posting just to meet the requirements. I am just sharing my skillset to the community. Don't like it move on, no reason to be an ass about it. I noticed the users unhappy with my infographic or with smart remarks are in signature campaigns and tend to post every few minutes in random threads, says alot to me. I wish signature campaigns would seize to exist so the valuable threads don't get lost with all the spam.

As DdmrDdmr already pointed , you need to focus on something new. I read that you are developer so I guess understanding/posting some technical stuff will be option for you.
Currently , I see, forum is accepting Grin Coin (mimblewimble protocol), may be a good infographics will be interesting.(just a suggestion, you can try to create something new or very less discussed.)

<…>
I’ts not a harsh negative comment, but rather a factual one. I told you that the design was nice, but that the topic on the infographic has already been treated in abundance, and even the thread where everyone should go to get information on  Merit & new rank requirements (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2818350.msg28856522#msg28856522) has a link to 6 related infographics on the matter. True though that it may not be that easy to find, but you have posted in it in the past.

Concerning infographics in general, and this is just my personal perception of how others view them:

-   They have their fans and many detractors. I personally don’t have anything against them, and even browse the ones created on the hot topic of the moment on Meta: DT- Default Trust.

-   The ones that are more likely to be praised are those that are well designed, with a good content, help to clarify, and that are fresh - in the sense that the topic has not been treated before.

Take it as you will.

Yes,
To become Full Member you need 100 Merits. If you really aiming for high rank then use the search more,  read more and write good content( no copy paste allowed from this site or external site.)

yeap, you have too options:
- Making your efforts and self-promoting to a Full Member;
- Buying a Copper Membership, will give some priveledges, except wearing avatar.

Allows you to post images even if you are a newbie, reduces the time-between-actions limit, and provides some of the same benefits as being of natural Member rank.

Remember that there are two payment gates available for now: BTC, and Grin coin. The paid rate in Grin coin will change over time by manual setup by theymos, forum admin.
More details are available there: Paid Copper Memberships (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=credit;promote)

You're wrong. A user can only upload profile picture (avatar)  when s/he ranks up to full member and above. The copper membership only comes with some privilege as the member rank like wearing signature, uploading image in text and not uploading an avatar. Those lower rank users you see with avatar are does who were wearing one before the implementation of the new Avatar rule and others might be bug from the system  (theymos still yet to address this issue)

Sorry, it's my bad mistake.
What I wanted to write is previledges to display images, but I don't know why I wrote avatar.
I already corrected my post.
You're wrong. A user can only upload profile picture (avatar)  when s/he ranks up to full member and above. The copper membership only comes with some privilege as the member rank like wearing signature, uploading image in text and not uploading an avatar.

For those cases, I known it well.
In another topic, it is well known that there are several local moderators who can wear avatar, even when they are still newbies.
It's not a bug of forum, at all.. You are wrong!

There you go with statement from theymos
Yes, it's the same as always. Currently there are 3 patrollers and 20 non-patroller local moderators. (I saw someone say elsewhere that all mods have jurisdiction over newbies, but this isn't true.) At some points in the past there have been more patrollers, but that's not necessarily indicative of a shortage.
In addition, one topic for your interest is available:
Theymos, can you solve the mystery? newbie with 2 merit watering avatar? (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5102721.0)

So what you're trying to tell me is that everybody wearing avatar that are not full member rank above are moderators? I don't think so. I think (correct me if I'm wrong) some users their account were created before the new Avatar rule was implemented can still wear their avatar irrespective of their ranks as in the past all ranks can wear avatar.

The users wearing avatar and their account were created in 2018 which aren't moderators there isn't an official statement on why they can wear those avatar,
So we have two low ranked accounts with avatars which is logically impossible since they both joined after the merit system has been introduced.
Also LoyceV noticed this (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5058163.msg47706701#msg47706701):
Quote
Do you have any idea why your profile says you have 0 posts, and your post history shows 3 posts? It seems to be a glitch in the forum software.
this is why i said it's a bug until we get an explanation why those accounts can wear avatar.

Good information. So i need to be Full Member before having profile picture feature?
yeap, you have too two options:
- Making your efforts and self-promoting to a Full Member;

You're still wrong.  The user isn't asking for image in post,  he's asking for profile picture (avatar) therefore he only has one option for now which is to rank up to full memeber.
