I am not clear about altcoin system. I actually want to know about altcoin. I am new in digital currency market. So I want to know more about digital currency.

If you want to know more about cryptos, the best place is to read up on articles and Google the coins you're interested to learn about. There are plenty of resources and there are no best ones out there, because there's no best one-stop solution.

Alternatively, news publications are a good start, with some below:
CoinTelegraph (https://cointelegraph.com/)
Cryptonews (https://cryptonews.com/)

"Altcoin" isn't one certain coin. "Altcoins" are pretty much coins that isn't bitcoin; alternative coins.

If you want to know about cryptocurrencies in general, I suggest reading this: https://coindesk.com/information

If you know about original invented crypto, first revolution in the world which is Bitcoin. You know by comparison what altcoin is. In general its copy-paste of Bitcoin, with minor changes introduced to it.
So you copy-paste Bitcoin naming it RaimondCoin and change rule of max 12 000 000 coins in circulation to 6 000 000 coins in circulation. There you go, you have your own alt-coin.

Hey there at this stage I think it is better to read more rather than ask questions first as you would definitely receive a lot of different answers as your question is pretty general. If you think you have hit a bump or something that you cannot even search then that is the time for you to be asking questions. As a newbie to altcoins you don't really ask where to start but you need to find out for yourself as it is a learning experience for you.

You are quite vague and quite lost.

Shortly: first Bitcoin has been created. It's basically a computer program. A program on which the digital currency called Bitcoin runs (and only Bitcoin).
Then others have seen this and made their own programs. Some more or less different than Bitcoin. Those are altcoins. Each is a different program, each such program supports one such coin.
Then the tokens came. They are a little different and I don't want to confuse you, so I'll stop here.

It's a simple start. Now start searching. It's a lot to learn and people here don't like to spoon-feed others. When you start to get a clue, you can ask more specific questions.

There's also a general section about altcoins called Altcoin Discussion (click to go here) (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=67.0) on this forum if you wish to learn more about alts and potentially invest in one or multiple of 'em. Announcements (Altcoins) (click to go here) (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=159.0) is another good section of this forum if you'd like to look at new altcoins that have just been released. I would suggest visiting these parts of the forum after reading what mjglqw posted, however, as that'll give you enough info to comprehend what you'll read in the sections I linked.

Welcome folk. See that the forum is very organized on each topic it has. There is an Altcoin section specifically where you can read and learn a lot about altcoin but it will not also do you harm if you ask from time to time in this section about somethings that you are not sure about. Me personally, I learned a lot in reading posts here in this forum, articles outside and informations from peers as well.

Bitcoin is the original cryptocurrency. Altcoin is a generic term to define all the other coins that followed. There are so many of them that you have no choice but to research each one individually for their merit or disadvantage.

The forum area to talk about those is: [ DO NOT POST SESC LINKS #6]Alternate cryptocurrencies[/url]

Bitcoin is another free open source project. Anyone can take the code, do some changes and release a new coin. That is why there are so many of them. Of course, the market decides if they have any value or not, and how much or little. Many simply wanted to be as successful as bitcoin was, but regret not being there when it all started, hoping to make a new coin to see if they too could make a fortune. But in the end they didn't get as much value as bitcoin, and all of them together are still moving less fiat equivalent money than bitcoin alone.

But of course you are free to make your own choices. Just remember to use the designated area for that purpose. This forum was originally bitcoin alone, that's why its got "bitcoin" in its name :)

List of altcoins, their price, chart, Exchanges on which they are available the corresponding explorer of the coins all these details are available at
https://coinmarketcap.com/ and if you want to buy any you can visit https://coinswitch.co and buy 100+ cryptocurrencies through credit card and can exchange 45000 Coin pairs.

Custodial exchanges get hacked so, better use non-custodial exchanges like Coinswitch, changelly, shapeshift etc.,

Welcome here raimond.

Except bitcoin, most of the coins that you can see on coinmarketcap.com are all altcoins. And you should be careful if you plan to invest to any of them, DYOR before investing to an altcoin.

Nice to have you in the cryptocurrency world.

An altcoin is any digital cryptocurrency similar to Bitcoin. The term is said to stand for “alternative to Bitcoin” and is used describe any cryptocurrency that is not a Bitcoin. Altcoins are created by diverging from Bitcoin consensus rules (the fundamental rules of the cryptocurrency’s network) or by developing a new cryptocurrency from scratch.

What doubt you are referring to?and since you are new in crypto better learn about bitcoin first before jumping into altcoins because this is a different issue.but i guess Coin-Desk has explained it already and clearly

Altcoin's full form alternative coin. Here the meaning of coin is cryptocurrency. All other coins except Bitcoin are called altcoin. Example of altcoin: Litecoin Dogecoin Ripple coin etc. Altcoin has been created after the introduction of bitcoin. It is also like Bitcoin peer to peer cryptocurrency. If Bitcoin is a king, then altcoin is a tenant. So, instead of Bitcoin, any other coin is called Altcoin. Hope to understand.

Best regards
Coin-Desk
This is one great explanation of Altcoins and enough to understand the mean though i guess some Videos and articles may give more for his references

Hey there is no altcoin system, these are alternate coins that are not bitcoins, and one should avoid them to be honest. As you’re new to crypto’s I would suggest you to read and understand about bitcoins, make sure you realise these are volatile and risky. If you’re keen to invest I would recommend bitcoins, if you’re keen for altcoins reluctantly I’ll suggest Ethererum and Ripple only.

I beg your pardon, so you're saying now that some altcoins died because they hand over so bitcoin will grow? Just so you know, some altcoin will tend to die as no one is using it nor have interest on it, therefore no demand with over supply will eventually kill any other altcoin.

From the word alternative means an option or choice. Perhaps you can easily tell what's its initial difference between each other.
Likewise, as mentioned by some reading, reading, reading and reading is the only thing that can help you.

As many users already said altcoin means alternative coins. As well we know Bitcoin is a mother coin. Except bitcoin all others coins is altcoin. Buy all are digital currency. Altcoin doesn't mean its useless. There is few potential altcoin like ETH, LTC and so on. Usually altcoin trade against btc, usd, eth. Since most of CEX exchange consider bitcoin as primary trading pair that's why Bitcoin called mother coin and all other coin is altcoin.

Altcoins are different ... Ethereum or Tron also altcoins. However, no one considers them a scam. Therefore, if they say altcoin does not need to assume that this is a bad investment. For example, I recently found a completely new project Sound Money Coin. This is the invention of one math. I am simply inspired by his ideas.

True although majority of altcoin are worthless and aren't worth your investment capitals. Many users learnt it the hard way as the  bear market have taught them life lessons as many have lost money to the extent even the next bull run can't rescue them. The mere reason an altcoin gives you profit doesn't mean they aren't scam or shitcoins, take bitconnect as an example.

Alternative coin other than BTC so tokens are also a kind of alts that is my personal opinion.
Token are altcoins and not a kind of altcoins checking the coin market cap you would notice ethereum is the second on the list. From ethereum down wards are all referred to as altcoins
