Title: Most Hodlers have now turned to Traders?
Post by: daniel002 on January 23, 2019, 02:09:33 PM
Many hodlers now are selling their coins to have a capital for trading to recover their losses on this bear market. Well, I think for now that will be the best decision. The crypto market now is stable and it is good for trading.

What do you think guys is the best thing to do this time? Hodl and wait or Trade and get profit.

I think this bear market may be worse in next times if ETF is not approved and this possibility is very high to happen, so be carefull with own investments now and should short-trading and switch immediately into USD when hit the profit

Nope, at least I’m not that’s one, I’m not suitable to become traders because my emotion will affected investment strategy, lost more than a holder, as you said that market already stable, why not filled your bag with undervalue cryptocurrency and gain profit while market fully recover ?

Shorting is involving a lot of risk. ETF not yet approved due to the some problems with the contract is not compliance caused by there was a lot of market still being manipulated. That gives a lot of fear to the regulators.
We must be patience for that

If you're confident you can make money by trading, why not? I never found myself successful in trade. That's why I'm usually in a hold position, but if I see a profit, I'll sell it.

If everyone doing that means the people who are selling late won't make much capital to do trading but it is wise decision too, make some money from what you have to make more money but trading is also not much easier it can cause you losses more than in bear market so for me holding is better if your coin has some hope while bull run comes.

I do agree with you, I would have fare well last year, if I decided to trade rather than hold on to these tokens, some tokens lost close to 99% of their value. With the level of uncertainties in the space surrounding regulations one need to be proactive and not be blindly loyal to these projects. I invested in EtherDelta ICO almost all the value is lost just to name one of the projects that I invested into last year.

To begin with, the bear market is still on and there is no stability yet
Trading also involves hodling albeit a short periods of time within a day
But how fast can you move tokens and get on exchange ?

That’s what matters

Trading is always going to be the best option to regain the profit that should have been for them. Tokens that they have bought from ICO are sold right when the trading started in the exchange.  Accumulating tokens and BTC and earning more ETH by trading is at least the path to go on in this industry.

To be honest, I never found myself successful in trading. That's why I'm usually in a defensive position, but if I look profitable, I will sell it.

I agree that the market has become quite stable now in the range between $3500 - $4000. I am a HODLER myself but I am not trading my coins. I am still holding them.
Selling them now(although to trade) will just be another risk for me. I think it would be better if we just keep holding them and wait for the market to recover  slightly.
Once there is 30% - 40% gain in the price then we could start trading as the market will fluctuate. Also, recovering the losses will only happen if we actively trade against the market.
Not doing so might just end up us taking more losses.

trading to get profit is good to do, but for big profits, I think it's still difficult in this bear market situation. I prefer the long-term hodl.

I do not think so. It is better to stay on holding because market will turn into green from any moment from now. So, it is better to hold. You may have the chance of losing to get into the boat.

HODL if you have other things to do and believes that the market will get better soon.

Trade if you want to recover your losses but whatever you do between the two, risk is associated and you can't avoid that.

Trade and get profit of course, the market has not much to offer to the community, sad to say we will have to wait for more weeks before we can expect a change in the market condition, still waiting for the fork to happen so we'll know if Ethereum can get their position back.

How did you decide that those investors who held their tokens began trading on exchanges? You yourself say that the market is stable, which means that it is not so volatile, therefore it is more difficult to make a profit in such a market, is it not ???

It's not that the hodlers turned into traders, they just ran out of time for which they invested. If someone has decided to invest for a few years, there is still no reason to change their plans now. People start trading because they have poorly planned their investment and feel more and more concerned that the price of Bitcoin may never increase and lose, so they try to trade. Which, in my opinion, is the worst solution for them.

You are right a part, because we cannot blindly wait for long, long days. It's always better to have something rather than nothing, people often come with new plans and ideas to make money. But this drastic downfall has thought a lesson for the entire forum as crypto should always considered as part time job.

Holders currently don't dare to take the risk and change turned to traders i think this is normal because to get maximum profit i think we have to considering all factors and if there is good chance to get profit when being an traders i think there is no reason to refuse that and currently i think it's very difficult to find the real holders and mostly people only being an the holders for time being but when they reach achieve their target price usually they will sold their coins

It is not because of stability but instead, it is all because of probability, holding is not as good as it used to be. Being a holder is good for us a couple years ago when Bitcoin and any other cryptocurrency is on buy range, but right now we are out of it. Nobody can guarantee us that Bitcoin and others will survive until tomorrow, next month or year.
That was why some of them decided to liquidate their position and turned it into trading.

Just to hold your coins is not more profitable at all. Unfortunately the market was going deeper and deeper without any signs of recovery. Thats why people that have tired of waiting switched to trading their assets.

Hodling was a very good strategy in 2017s bull market. Nothing could go wrong, you made very high gains with hodling without any risks. Due to the fact the market turned to a bearish sentiment, hodling makes you lose money. I think thats the reason why so many people started to trade ... and lost even more money than with hodling ;)

yes, the bear season has taken too long. People have lost a lot so they trade to recover some of their losses at least so as not to lose on all ends. If you say hodl and wait, till when? We don't even know when the bull season will start. At this point, one can trade some and make some profit instead of waiting. Not all tokens are to be held though.

I agree with these insight! Like me i was sold most of my Altcoins and focus on day trading as well. Because i think that hodling in these kind of market situation is not a favorable action to do. Unlike day trading the profit and capital was always intact if you use a strategic plan to execute it rightfully to avoid or minimized losses.

Becoming a trader is not easy. I think it’s not just learning how to listen to people and understand what they are trying to tell you. Therefore, it is not quite easy. Here we need a diverse opportunity to collect and analyze information.

It is obvious that with the understanding of the fact that the hold is not so profitable in a bear market as it was bull, you have to look for new ways to earn money, more flexible, and one of these ways is trading.

everyone is looking for profit and for them trading is the right way to get it. it becomes normal if they prefer to be traders rather than holders. I personally do not want to hold a coin for too long, if the coin that I have already gets profit I will sell it immediately.

Both are different type of people, trader will never enter into holding unless he solidly believe it and vice versa, and third type is intermediate which switch to trader and holder depend on their mood and greed.i don't think major holder are selling their coin as if they would we would have seen market bleed more worse than right now, whales are enjoying Right now so it is has nothing to do with trader or holder.

I think despite the fact that many market players have turned from holders into traders, a large percentage of people who will wait will remain.
Personally, I see no reason to sell promising coins now, when soon, I hope, growth will begin.
It is better to hold them until full recovery, although I can not say with certainty that I will get a profit if the coin falls in price.

If you know how to trade well, then you must do trading than holding your token or coin. I would rather develop my skill so that even on the bearish market, I can produce profit or income for my family. We often wanted to hodl because we are afraid that we might lose our chance to have our tokens bigger value but when we need fiat money, then we will sell it even on the lowest price which is a losing move for us. Start our goal to be a good trader.

Bullshit. Stop spreading lies.

A holder doesn't care about the current price or the massive price swings that we see on a weekly basis, all they care about is keeping their coins safe as a long-term strategy and wait for the price to go up in the long run. There's no reason to change your strategy from holding to trading, both are valid and be used in the current state of the market, but one is not better than the other.

I don't really think so. You might think that the ones who had big bags worth of a small (or a BIG) fortune in one point might have turned around and started trading to regain the money they once had. But in reality trading is hard stuff, you have to disconnect your emotions and basically become a rock. Not many people can to do that effectively.

So I still think that many holders still hodl or just accept the losses.

Choosing a strategy to recover your assets that you lost during 2018 - this is a deeply individual matter. For example, my choise - it's reinvesting in the new Swiss project Etheera. I bought ETA tokens a few months ago and during this time I multiplied my capital by seven times already. I believe that this is the best investment that was possible. And as before, I continue to invest in this project because I know about its prospects.

when the market is stable, this is not the right time to trade. When the hesitation begins, that's when you need to start trading. Many began to trade only in order to earn something. The rest keep their coins. If everyone would start selling their assets, then the cryptocurrency would be worth nothing. It is a fact.

There is a possibility to loss on other hand. Trading cryptocureencies is not easy like we did in 2017 when prices are high and suitable for trading. Many traders prefer to sell  altcoins crossly after getting expected result with one.

This has led to traders becoming hodlers while the weather the storm hoping for more favorable conditions to return to the market.

I dont think that who ever is holding bitcoin need to sell and trade as you can trade the invested bitcoin in this bear market and lower your purchase price and increase the bitcoins volume in account, this is the best way to recover your loss in high invested coins.

Of course, if asked about this, it would be very profitable if we trade unless there are indeed some coins that we might not sell because of the token rule which causes us to keep holding tokens up to a certain time limit.

Many of holders decided to move on daily trading indeed. People got tired to wait for big and constant growing as we used to have in 2017. Only by daily trading its possible to earn something on the price difference instead of watching how bitcoin falling down and holding with hoping of 2017's coming back.

Not particulary in the wrong time of selling if they used it to other way of profiting. We need to be wise and do strategies, cause nothing happen if we just keep on waiting not unless it have potential in the future.
Many holder's came into trading cause they found out that they could make money out their while waiting for the bullish and they have pleasure to do so.

I will choose to keep on holding since I have my different capital for trading. The market is stable and trading might be a good one but it will take a lot of work and you must know how to trade. As for me, I do both, holding and trading. There are some coins I keep for very long term, those with very strong team, product and great vision. I trade some coins using TA, most times it works for me, sometimes it doesn't. Please if you don't understand trading, do not step in, you might get burnt.

If I am you why you don't try both while you are trading you are also holding a coin for you to be sure that you can get what lose for you. We 2 types of trading which is long term and short term trading if you chose long term trading that was holding the coin that have possibility for you to earn until the value rise up again on short term  or daily trading this is you need to monitor daily for you to sell and buy coins. But for me do it both.

For me, I would like to try trading but I don't have that enough time to look for good investmnet. I would just hold and keep wqiting until the right time comes. You can also get stressed at trading.

A lot of people have discovered that in most cases hodling isn't usually the best approach except you are investing for the long term and not short time. I've also discovered in my own that trading isn't as easy as it might seem, I'm still getting my way around it.

in my opinion it is better to sell your coins to get the initial capital to trade daily because the market conditions are bullish, but if your coins have the potential to hold them better because the price will soon increase, you can analyze with the active development team in collaborating with various types of real companies through the media their social.

I think the thing that is profitable now is trading every day. The price of coins is indeed very easy to change up and down. So that we can take advantage of this, of course, this also requires good speculation skills. Buy coins when the price is red and then sell coins when the price rises.

both are good ways but if we already have a potential coin, for example is bitcoin then I think it's better for us to hodling and wait until bitcoin recovers.
we know that trade does not always make a profit, we run the risk of losing so that when we have good coins and even the best, we have nothing to do but wait rather than trade and risk assets

Basically, Holders is a trader. And traders have two ways to hold coins. That is long and short term, depending on the strategy they read through Analysis. At least it can prevent losses as well as possible is a plus that must be owned by traders.

It probably. The holder for this era will not receive the profits after some months. They will need more months again in order to sell the coins in the higher price. I'm sure that many holders are also traders. They still HOLD many coins and now they also trading some certain coins. Commonly each coin has different strategy for trading or investing.

I am a holder and I did try some trades which turn out to be good but I can't just be a trader overnight I just to trade occasionally and when I find a real chance, however, I mostly do this trades with outsourced money I still did not liquidate most of my holdings and I will not simply because I will not gonna sell with 50% or 70% loss to try to recover only to find that the tokens or coins I sold started to run up.

I guess so, it seems like the investors will need longer time to harvest the profits for the holding tokens or coins. So far, we can get the coins from trading. However, not all people will do this. But I also agree that this era if good for trading if you want to make faster profits.

If you got the skill then definitely trading will be better, buy the market is really unpredictable so if you don't have any skill its better to just hold it and aim for long term investment, but I suggest you start learning about trading, its a very useful skill to make profit, after a while usually a holders will become a traders because when you keep watching the chart every day then you can become a speculators

I think that those traders are also hodlers of their own coins , trading cryptocurrencies have many aspects to make it successfull in it. A traders must have patience when trading of their coins because the value of cryptocurrencies nowadays aren't stable and patience to wait is one of the factor to be successfull in trading.

Yes, you are correct. But I prefer trading and holding both. We all know holding is not the best thing to do right now. But if you having a bad loss, holding is the best thing to do right now. The next thing is if you focus on top coins to hold, I believe it's really worth it.

This is really true ,because if you have already buy coins and tokens in the past and the value you bought for is higher compare to those market price ,so you will have to hold it , and if nothing is change in the market ,that is why many holders divert to trading activities, but the only thing is that it really requires enough time to do this things.

It's better to trade and get profit than for just hold the coins without knowing when it increases. You need to have the skills to analyze the coins you have so you can try to make a profit although it's not big. It is a good time to sell when the price increase and buy back when the price is down because I see we have a chance to see the price to go down again after it increases. But it's up to you, and you need to think twice before you do something.

But if it is at the dump value, I don't know how it will pay the seller than to wait hodling till there is a pump.

That would be a good thing to do, since hodling coins for too long without  having any other source of profit would be painful way to wait if it got too long.
So waiting while trading is the best option that every hodler has right now, so starting form today every new hodler should prepared to do trading to fill the space while they wait for the coins they hodl to rise up.

What do you think guys is the best thing to do this time? Hodl and wait or Trade and get profit.

This time market is not stable but sideways but down trend still running, I think you should include your analysis into your post. Stable is when price action cross the limit for buy/ sell and try to find where the go. Many people give advice to recovery their asset with trading by selling their coins but they didn't realize that if trading also can make them broke. I prefer to keep hold and try use your skill into another on line activity, such as blog, you tube channel or facebook ads.

If they are holding, they can hold for as long as they like. Even for a day. Buy a coin today, hold it for a week and then sell it. You are still a holder. You can sell whenever you like. That is why it is important to fix some specific goals of profit/loss. Trading is something totally different than holding.
Just remember, the price is bound to increase in the long run. So long run holders actually will be making profit.

How can this be possible when there's literally no liquidity in the market? Unfortunately a lot of low quality assets have turned many investors into bag holders for now and not much profits can be made in a bear market from these sorts of investments so it's probably best to wait for the next time the market sees a major turn around as there should be some gains if the projects are of good quality

It's why holders are turning into traders, they can shift at any moment that they want and they can break their strategy for being a long term holder in the middle of journey.
that means they don't have the character as holders
Characters are useless if your fund is starting to melt.

The chance to lose is much higher than the chance to get a reward if you are not a professional trader. I mean sustainable win ratio from trading. Sometimes it's much better not to do anything rather than trying to earn some money with risk for your capital. But if you want to risk - do it carefully and use risk management. Do not risk more than fixed persentage of your deposit at once. I prefer do not risk more than 1% at once.
BTW I guess whales and big players should take crypto from weak hands and with dumb traders it's very easy to do ;)

Trading is still the best to earn passive income but you also have to be aware of possible losses. There are different type of traders which matches on your characteristics, knowledge, years of experience and also if you will be a full or part time trader. The market maybe looks table but there are unexpected big buy and sell trading so you still have to keep your self updated or maximize the stop loss settings.

Nope.

I was a hodler in 2017 (and even in 2016) and I still am a hodler now.

I kinda agree though in a bear market it makes a bit more sense to make trades than in a bull market because in a bear market the prices will be going down and if you get out of your crypto position you'll likely to buy them back cheaper later. It is the reverse in a bull market and you'll lose your position while you are trying to make trades and also lose your future gains.

However, this bear market can end anytime and you may still get trapped in a FIAT trap so, as a hodler, I am not taking risks.

Well for some hodlers who perhaps lost a little patience in waiting, yeah it's another option. Though if you're already at a loss while holding, actively trading presents a bigger chance of losing more. Personally i'd stick to sucking it all up and keep my patience.

I don't think so, because otherwise volume should be significantly increased. It's not because of many investors have become traders.

I too have turned into a trader to at least recover the value of my crypto. So far I have benefited from it. I have been trading for quite a while now and I thank the bearish market for that. It really works good and there is no need to buy other coins cause you have already. It is some ways also to generate more gains and help it out while waiting for the market rise. It also bring us into different environment and a lot of things we might learn in trading and for sure you'll be comfortable in doing it. Though it s risky but nothing happen if we just holding.

I do not know how to trade at all in this market. maybe they trade their coins to withdraw their capital. This is a reasonable solution to protect your investment.

Many hodlers now are selling their coins to have a capital for trading to recover their losses on this bear market. Well, I think for now that will be the best decision. The crypto market now is stable and it is good for trading.

What do you think guys is the best thing to do this time? Hodl and wait or Trade and get profit.
Well, not all there are still hodlers out there keeps believing that the market will recover in this year. But some of this hodlers are keep on studying technical analysis for a better daily income. Those hodlers selling their coins are weak hands that didn't trust the market.

getting profit with the current market conditions is indeed quite difficult, but can be profitable even though not too much. trading is a powerful pickle to restore capital to stay awake.

it doesn't seem right, I think holders are traders. when you become a trader, you can also be called a coin holder. the reason why the market is down is not because there are no people who want to hold a coin, but because the situation is bad. bad situations make some people panic and sell their coins. this is what makes the market down. if you notice there are still many people who still hold their coins.

Everyone has their own financial objectives and perspective on the market. This severe and long correction has indeed turned many investors into traders. The next big bull rise could flip those back into hodling.

Yes, trading is now the best option for making money on this too long bearish cryptocurrency market. It is simply no profit to simply keep a cryptocurrency so many have started trading on a daily basis. This still brings a small, but stable income. However, not everyone has the opportunity and experience to engage in trade. Besides, there is more risk here. Everyone has the right to choose which way suits him best.

In any case, this or that activity in the cryptocurrency market carries with it a certain risk. But nevertheless, in order to act as a trader today, a comma needs to choose the right project, which has very flexible volatility.

I do not think the market is stable enough. Whatever any one does now, whatever the decision, hold or sell, it's best to make studies on the movement of the market.

I believe those were the persons that are needing for a fund to do trades. So they join first on bounty hunting, and if they have already had a fund, they would join in trading soon.

Nope, at least I’m not that’s one, I’m not suitable to become traders because my emotion will affected investment strategy, lost more than a holder, as you said that market already stable, why not filled your bag with undervalue cryptocurrency and gain profit while market fully recover ?
for now and conditions like today as crypto currency investors with such a large risk in investment we must be clever in utilizing every opportunity that will be obtained to gain profit in investing

I also changed my mindset even I am a long term holder but I changed my strategy from last 6 months now I feel more confident in trading. I would say I have increased my total number of coins while trading so this proves the best decision for me rather than holding. I would suggest if you can do trading, start trading and make profit on regular basis.

They do not just sell, but do day trading, and for this they choose the most suitable coins - the trone, the ripple. So it is normal to adapt to market conditions.

What opportunities might you see now? opportunities in the market now are very few, even to trade, many of them choose to hold the assets they have. because there may already be many investors who feel disadvantaged and sell some or even all the assets they have and leave crypto. maybe only some of them do that, and most I think is still in confidence if the crypto market will improve soon.

Lately I also have decided to be a trader because I am in huge loss and I feel I need to recover my loss. The problem with day trading is the market manipulation. You have a good chance  of losing a big amount within short time if market gets manipulation.

All tkens are not good for daily trading. If you have a less volatile coin/token with good daily trading volume then, daily trading will be a good way to income on daily basis. Just buy at low cost anf sell at higher price. Never at a loss. Remember, if you hold any asset, it still means you have enough chance to get profit

Expect the worst in trading and you will not be disappointed if position goes against you. Markets are not designed for everyone who remember markets whenever they need money. Full time traders take their jobs professionally and they never blame manipulators in case of having losing trade series. Day trading is full of obstacles which will happen to every trader depending on timeframe of chart.

I think you need to learn how to trade and become a trader.Don't see the point just to keep the coins in your wallet. My wallet is completely empty,I think like most people. Those who know how to trade-those and now have a good profit.

As an amateur trader most of my portfolio is for holding with some 'play coins' being gloated in exchanges. It's not easy to make a profit so I wouldn't go all in for trades
