There are a lot of small shops which accept crypto payments around the world. However, in my opinion, what will really push the cryptocurrencies forward is the adoption of Bitcoin by some big player in the trading industry, such as Amazon.

What do you think, will Amazon start to accept Bitcoin as a payment method if its price rises to new-record values again (like in 2017)? Could it be that they are not adopting it because they treat crypto as a hostile technology for their business? Or they just don't take Bitcoin seriously, like thinking it will despair in the near future?

I’m sure they’ve done some research already about cryptocurrency and with bitcoin of course but maybe they are just waiting for the right time. I’ve heard about the new Samsung phone, which enables cryptocurrency maybe this is the start for a big players to slowly adopt the technology, we will see this when the market pumps.

What do Amazon have to gain by accepting cryptocurrency?

To start accepting bitcoin, they would also need to be able to refund orders in cryptocurrency, as well as solve problems regarding "stuck" transactions, hacked/lost/stolen accounts with outstanding balance on them, etc. They would need to set up hot and cold wallets, a means of converting to fiat, new crypto support staff and teams, new tax regulations, etc. It would be a huge undertaking for them. Now, what do they have to gain from it? Some new customers, sure, but probably not enough (yet) to justify their initial set up costs.

Yes, it would be great for all businesses to start accepting crypto, but at the end of the day, these are private businesses and will only undertake something if they think it will bring them more profit.

Amazon won't accept bitcoin in near future they may develop their own cryptocurrency having their own cryptocurrency open up lot of opportunities for them

Most likely not, as there aren't any reason for Amazon to accept cryptocurrencies on its platform, and certainly they'd just use a third-party service to instantly convert crypto to fiat, which is another service they'd have to pay for if ever. Should they go the route of keeping coins as is, Amazon needs someone experienced to manage the wallets and rhe workarounds for general safekeeping which, again requires extra costs. So yeah, from a business POV, adding cryptocurrencies isn't viable even during a bull run which mostly lasts a for only a few months.

Amazon use to accept bitcoin even when the price was below what we have presently till lately when their stop the acceptance of bitcoin as means of payment recently they reason is unknown but I believe in the nearest future their are going to redress they action and start accepting bitcoin again.

The problem is not bitcoin price skyrocketing or not. It is essentially related to the volatility. Amazon/sellers/, if it will implement bitcoin payments, it has to adjust too many times daily the goods price which is not obvious. The solution is to use bitpay or an alternative method/exchange to let the customer paying directly with BTC but the main question : it worth the effort for the moment? We need more and more adoption of the blockchain technology first!

The price doesn't matter to those companies, they don''t accept bitcoin directly because it's so volatile, there is actually a third party that convert bitcoin right away and send it to company as fiat. Amazon is giant company, they will receive huge requests if they accept bitcoin, plus they need your info to add it in their every day collected data, they don't support anonymity.

Amazon getting engaged into all form of business will not directly get into the bitcoin adoption into the business. As few users suggested volatility is the one that makes the corporate people stand away from bitcoin usage into their business. Probably Amazon will start accepting payments in the form of bitcoin through an intermediary such as bitpay, which has been into this business long back itself.

Bezos is already the richest man in the world, there i no need for him to change anything. People make extreme changes when there is a need to compete with other companies. However, amazon is already the top dog so they won't take bitcoin unless that changes

Big players never work like this and companies like Amazon will never accept Bitcoin directly, let us have an example here, Amazon make sales for $100M in one day worth of Bitcoin only to find that Bitcoin price drop by %5 (which is 100% normal in Crypto space) now they find themselves down by %5 I don't think that will be an acceptable thing in big companies for big companies to start accepting Bitcoin there should be a way to instant liquidate Bitcoin or even liquidate it before paying by an integrated system with a major exchange that can allow that to happen.

During the time when Bitcoin price is at it's highest, Amazon already showed interest in it. But after that bullish time, there is no more news about Amazon adopting to accept Bitcoin as means of payment. I think they do some thorough research on whether or not they would accept Bitcoin as part of the currency to be accepted in their transactions.

It could be, but there are a lot of factors to consider before any services (big and small) starts to accept crypto as payment.


As a business, you need to ask what incentives does your company will have to accept crypto? What risk, specially how volatile this market is. If the risk outweigh the benefits then its logical for businesses not to accept crypto at this moment. There are a lot of rumors before, even news about Paypal accepting crypto surfaces, but nothing concrete has come out.

It doesn't matter how rich you are or how well a certain business is performing, you always have to look at every possible way to grow your revenue and profit streams, which Amazon has to do in order to please shareholders.

The reality however is that Bitcoin can't even handle 1% of their volumes, which explains why there is no point in giving it a shot. To add, the speculative nature of Bitcoin makes people hold their coins instead of spending them.

If Amazon or any other similarly large scale business gets to a point it is interested in Bitcoin, it will come down to how LN is handling high transaction volumes. In a year or two it might be capable of that, right now it definitely isn't.

I do not think that Amazon will ever accept payments in cryptocurrencies, also because of the high price volatility they have, which probably won't make customers confident in buying goods and services on their site using cryptos.

It is more likely that in the future Amazon could create its own cryptocurrency, if the market develops.

They don't have to do it because they are profiting indirectly by selling their gift cards for BTC and other cryptocurrencies. If some of the crypto funds end up being used to buy stuff on Amazon anyway there's no need to risk it and build whole infrastructure to provide direct crypto payments. If you're talking about crypto payments through a third party processor it's very likely they will add it as an option.

Bigger price doesn’t mean its good because its getting too expensive and for sure Amazon knows that if bitcoin make a new peak, it will dump again and that is why its risky for them. If Amazon really wants to adopt, they will do it during the bear market because the value is very low and they can get higher profit when it rises again.

Probably not, it is just like how steam accepted cryptocurrency before on 2017 but stopped already after they noticed how fast the volatility changed and how miners fee rose too fast per transactions. That's why they have to stop using it before so probably Amazon is doing it too. Whatever their reason, I think they have to make constant changes if they have to accept cryptocurrency.

This has been rumors since 2016 (IIRC) but I don't think that Amazon will join the crypto revolution. Until now it's just a rumor or I guess it's now a dream that will never come true.

No. Obviously, price will not be the only basis. We knew that AMZ has considered the idea of accepting Bitcoin as a payment option before and it was regardless of the price.  

I think people should adopt the use of cryptocurrencies first and companies will follow.

Let's say the number of AMZ customers who own and use crytocurrencies (esp. BTC) became higher and constantly growing, I think they can make a request to AMZ about accepting BTC. IMO most companies would like to know their customer's pov, the more customers who are in favour the higher chance of consideration.

Still, it's a good thing that Amazon adopt the technolgy, they use Blockchain on AWS (https://aws.amazon.com/blockchain/).

The rising price is not a big factor for Amazon or any other big companies, they need a more stable and more efficient currency to used, and without the permit from the government the big companies couldn't adopt the crypto payment and they still not sure by adopting crypto could give them benefit, so we should take the adoption thing slowly when bitcoin become more stable I think the big companies will consider adopting it

A lot of shores both online and offline accepted Bitcoin as payment but no one really know the reason behind amazon not accepting Bitcoin because they don't talk about it. Meanwhile, some of product owners, merchants and new project on amazon offer crypto payment so I think we shouldnt bother about amazon not accepting Bitcoin. Although, if they accept it will also evangelize Bitcoin

If amazon wants to accept bitcoin, they do not need it to skyrocket first. That's not an excuse that bitcoin price is low so they cannot accept it as a payment method. The only thing which I feel they fear is the instability and lot of volatility which makes it not so favorite currency to accept the bitcoins.

 I think not only Amazon will accept bitcoin but also there will be another giant marketplace that accepts payments with bitcoin, although there are many pros and cons against Bitcoin but its users still enjoy using bitcoin because bitcoin transactions are easily cheap and efficient so it doesn't close if later many marketplaces accept payment with bitcoin because with Bitcoin all countries can make transactions easily and quickly faster than conventional bank transactions that require more costs.

If Bitcoin will rise in value again, I think that big enterprises like Amazon will start building their own cryptocurrency (it can be used as a loyalty program reward). There is no point of integrating Bitcoin in their systems. The only reason I can think of, is to just make their clients familiar with cryptocurrencies before giving them the option of AmazonCoin.

I can't see any restriction to accept the bitcoin payment for Amazon, but Yes, it could take more sometimes. We know this very bad time passing at this moment for crypto but it happened many times before and it had recovered. so we should wait for that. One Bitcoin will be the best and most popular payment method all over the world.

While i think amazon accepting bitcoin is a positive thing, the FIAT value

I think the way they look at it is while most people are happy to shop with
FIAT those same people are not going to buy bitcoin to shop on amazon,

I heard that too and this is why many believes BAKKT should really implent as soon as possible so we can see the pump again. If big companies like Amazon accept cryptocurrency, this is a real big move and for sure other businesses will adopt and many more in the future.

I don't think that's a good choice, the price of bitcoin is not good for being a currency that can be used for shopping. It would be better if you use coin like USDT or another stablecoin , bitcoin will never accepted by amazon.

I heard that amazon already accepted bitcoin as the payment method. If the price of the bitcoin increase again it will have for sure there is a lot of shopping online website will accept bitcoin as payment method also because they will see the good purpose of having bitcoin because it can help to their shopping to get more customer and also to promote bitcoin.

Now and now, Amazon is familiar with and supports two cryptocurrency such as Bitcoin and Ethereum which it supports maybe if all markets are stable most likely Amazon also adopts more examples of coins, Ripple icons, and others.

I doubt it, Amazon would have already accepted bitcoin if they were ever going to.  It makes more sense for Amazon to create their own currency and allow customers to pay with it.  Bitcoin wouldn't even be able to handle that many transactions per second if a large portion of customers shifted over to crypto.

How many times do not say and all the same. It's not a matter of appreciating or falling. The whole point of stability (it is not) currency. Until she stabilizes, she will not accept her.

You are right, a giant like Amazon could change the facts but to encourage them to accept cryptocurrency the market has to lower the volatility, i think this is the main reason why many people don't accept bitcoin for example for payments.

I think bitcoin is more suitable for payment as a service, if it is used for marketplace payments like Amazon, the possibility of a transaction queue will be longer unless they implement a lightning network system. Right now I feel that bitcoin is not good to use as a payment, I prefer to save bitcoin and pay shopping bills using fiat for now. unless later there is a change or development of bitcoin to make it faster to make massive transactions.

in my opinion crypto adoption which began to spread now has indeed become better than before but this is also not a sign as a guarantee for market recover. Amazon only has a small impact on the size of the crypto market so that in my opinion it would be impossible if you wished the market could rise in the short term

Yes the possibility of accepting the cryptocurrency for a product in an online will be more less than here in this situation so accepting Bitcoin will be good idea but most of the sites still not support yes the possibility of accepting the cryptic currency for a product in an online will be more liston here in this situation so accepting with Kyle really good idea but most of the site did not support that implemented buying and selling products for cryptocurrency.

Amazon  is such a big company and everything is about profit. Being able to make a huge one is in their interest. It is wonderful when you can earn a lot and accepting bitcoin as a payment method at this moment maybe could give good income but only if the price of bitcoin increase. Since we, or they don`t know that for sure, to implement it as a payment method is risky cause, as the price can go up, the same way it could go down and that`s where making profit is in question. So far, everything is going just great, why change it at all...

We'll see that day which Amazon accepts payments in bitcoin but we need to wait for a while because companies like Amazon must obey some strict rules which are dictated by goverments. If only Amazon has right to decide on this issue, they had already started accepting bitcoin payments until now. I meant that adoption of bitcoin doesn't only depend on its price.

It could be because Amazon is the biggest market today, and as the biggest market, of course Amazon always needs high credibility, and if the price of Bitcoin soars and is used by many people, surely Amazon is ready to accept it.

I can't understand why you are making correlations between Amazon Bitcoin adoption and new Bitcoin ATH.

I think the main reason is volatility. Imagine you are in US, having US drivers, US warehouse, US employees and US clients, paying you with US Dollars. Then you use those US Dollars to pay all the the stuff in the line and take the margin (1%-15%). Now imagine your clients paying you with Bitcoin and the price clashes with 5% until your driver leave the warehouse?  

And why will Amazon need Bitcoin anyway? To attract a fraction of the percent as new clients? Because I'm using crypto, but I'm also using Amazon with old fashion fiat money. I'm not a target.

I don't know, but it seems to me that it must happen. Amazon is a very modern company, they always occupy a leading position in the market. I think they are waiting for the beginning of the price increase, waiting for what happens next. If bitcoin shows itself at its best, then bitcoin will be another way to pay.

It is a matter of time when Amazon will start accepting the cryptocurrency as a means of payment. The cryptocurrency is gaining acceptance as the number of e-commerce stores that accepts them are increasing by the day.

I don't think Amazon will accept bitcoin as a payment method even if the value of bitcoin rises again because the laws of each country are different, if Amazon accepts bitcoin, this means they encourage users to use bitcoin, and the governments of some countries will not like this when bitcoin makes the situation in their country have problems and turmoil. And even though the number of people accepting bitcoin is getting bigger but this number is still too small, most people still prefer to use old payment methods, instead of bitcoin.

I do think there will be high possibilities that they will accept bitcoin but not because the price, the main reasons that amazon still not accept bitcoin cause crypto regulations still unclear.

in my opinion amazon should have worked with bitcoin for a long time because of what? advancing technology in the field of online shop and I think amazon must quickly work with bitcoin to make it easier for people who sell and buy and through payment via bitcoin

There is no doubt about the positives if amazon accepts bitcoin and we are speculating about it for a long time and that never came to fruition till now, i do not foresee the record price being set just because a bunch of users start purchasing bitcoin to use it in a retail store, the real push must come from big investors who can really make a change, but one thing is certain that it will attract new users to the market which is a good thing, there are sites like purse.io where you can buy and sell amazon products with bitcoin and for the time being everyone can use that. ;)

it seems impossible because if Amazon accepts payments using cryptocurrency such as bitcoin then it will make an Amazon loss because the price is too high and can fall instantly.

Last time Bitcoin skyrocketed, the fees went to $50 per transaction and companies like Steam and Reddit have actually dropped Bitcoin as their payment method. If the same market pattern will happen again, you can expect a similar increase in fees, because people will by dumping their coins. Next time we'll have SegWit, and hopefully Lightning will be officially released, but still it will probably be not enough to ensure low fees during the hot period. But I blame the companies here, it's really dumb to drop Bitcoin only because the fees were high for a month.

Amazon is just one example of it. Steam also accepted bitcoin when it was high but then they deleted that option and now we can't buy games with bitcoin. It was great while it lasted and I bought bunch of games from steam when it was available (at the time when bitcoin was going up so much I was making a killing as well so buying bunch of games with bitcoin seemed like a great idea).

Amazon, facebook, steam, many other places will take bitcoin if the price goes above 20 thousand dollars again, however they are not fond of currencies that lose that much money to begin with and may wish to reconsider next time around, the first time it happened maybe they thought that was it, bitcoin reached there and end of story. Now that they saw it going there and coming back, maybe they will want to wait a bit next time around and see how it goes.

That would be good news for crypto if Amazon starts accept bitcoin payment. If that really happen, bitcoin would be a true currency, and very soon it would be also accepted by other platform, it would be a huge success for crypto and I think it would be a push for bitcoin price.

Both of them are really good sites and both has good electronic values, Amazon has good supporters and it is being use by so many people as an online source of payment so for me as well it is really a good news I am satisfied with it, bitcoin is such a useful investment and source to pay as well which is beneficial for both Amazon and bitcoin if Amazon accept bitcoin.

Great global companies like Amazon will not risk their money if the guarantees of success are not enough. Jeff Bezos I think not once thought about it, but the great volatility of bitcoin and what is happening in the cryptocurrency market today does not give him confidence that accepting payments in bitcoins will bring great returns.
The price of goods in bitcoins will constantly fluctuate and many will not like it. Potentially, if you leave the funds received in bitcoins, then Amazon can increase its profits to record percentages, but it is already good to change something now.

With small shops and businesses the price volatility won't make a big change over its turnover, but with Amazon and other large scale firms the volatility is a big concern. In the marketplace it isn't possible to provide with much varied price as we don't know how the price of bitcoin gonna move. In no time it could reach peak or can drop to the ground. Even if it accept it won't accept directly, possibly it'll accept through intermediary services.

I think Amazon won't accept bitcoin to be used as a payment method in its services even though the price of bitcoin has skyrocketed again. However, it is likely that Amazon could adopt blockchain technology and make its own coins to use as a payment method. Why am I saying like this? Because there are many examples such as exchange services that make their own coins. it is far more profitable than having to accept bitcoin as their payment method.

I think it would more likely depend on how hard Jeff Bezos will be hit by his upcoming divorce that he finally come to his senses for introducing other modes of payment besides paypal and credit cards in order to gain his losses from the separation :P. But kidding aside I do think its more about time than the price of Bitcoin, if we see more support from the government especially the US government I think it would be Amazon's green light to accept Bitcoin as a mode of payment.

Very interesting thoughts. I never thought that Jeff will go on like this. Well, if you're going to look at those billionaires who divorces, almost majority of them shell out huge amount of money.

However, being smart Bezos will have to re-think his strategy if he wanted to stay on-top of the game. And accepting bitcoin will be another landmark and a first for his company if he chooses to accept it in the future.

That maybe a good thing if that comes to fruition. Amazon is one of the biggest online shopping platforms that people use to buy so many different stuff. If a company like that like all other well-known companies would begin to accept and embrace cryptocurrencies, then it would give it a big boost in the business sector that would help it will grow as a market and investment in the next few years. I think what's lacking is a way on how to change the minds of people who keep on misjudging and thinking that cryptocurrencies are all but negative and bad stuff waiting to happen.

Probably because as the matter of fact last year more online shop gradually accept bitcoin and use it as a payment method Because of being so popular and also the highest value.   .  So perhaps there's a tends in the future some of the store will adapt   BTC including amazon. 

I strongly believe that the high rate of volatility of bitcoin is the major reason prominent marketplaces and merchants like Amazon do not want to integrate bitcoin into their payment system.

I think it would be a bad strategy to wait for the price of Bitcoin to rise again. Large businesses are gradually gathering more bitcoin by selling their products. Car businesses, e-commerce businesses, pizza shops, services, ...
There are a lot of businesses who want to participate in the electronic money market to experience. It will definitely be the trend of the future.

We are currently moving on for another huge market development were it is very applicable for this new generation. Digital adoption will seems to be in demand as we look for better service and for the comfort of everyone.
That's why some big companies will have to look on these so they can cater a huge volume of costumers quite easy for them.

In this time i don't think Amazon will integrate bitcoin or any crypto again because The price of bitcoin is more volatile than the price of many other government currencies accepted by Amazon so there could be some challenge in pricing products.

Don't know if you're aware guys but WorldFirst closed its business last week, there are a lot of sellers on Amazon who rely on it (the medium and marge sellers). Binance CEO said Amazon won't have the choice to accept BTC.

No. I don't believe that they are not treating cryptocurrency seriously, they do and they believe too but because they also know the feature of bitcoin being too volatile so I believe this is the reason why until now they are still not counting on it as a mean of payment. They know that in a moment it can be good to their business and in another moment can be a disaster too.

Yes, merchants acceptance will really give a big blow to the market price of bitcoin and Amazon is one of those huge merchants out there.
There is one problem though. Amazon wont let it happen. I doubt they will ever do.
They are so successful by now that it might just be one reason for them to go down. The volatility of bitcoin makes them scared of it.

I wasn’t aware that WorldFirst shut down it’s business, this could be an opportunity for them to consider uisng bitcoins as a payment system. While there’re probalities that if Amazon wants it can create it’s own crypto, but won’t it be open to manipulation by them and I’m preety sure sellers will resist this. I believe the faith of bitcoins being accepted rests on Sec clearing Bitcoins Etfs as and when they’re filed again, till then don’t expect them to start using it.

of course they have to keep up with the times, moreover they are big companies. it is likely that they are targeting bitcoiner consumers. moreover, in the country the company has fully recognized bitcoin, so of course it will be easier for them to accept it as a means of payment

I doubt he will sell any shares to pay his wife, usually people like that just keep on paying monthly money instead of one big huge money, he will pay a big money all at once at start but not big enough to sell a part of his company. Instead of paying like 20 billion now and done with it, he will be paying probably like a billion now and 50 million forever type of deal.

He will also have lawyers that will try to find a reason to not pay at all costs, that is how rich people divorces happen, they try to find a way to not pay at all. Some do find a reason and some don't but all look for it. However that will not affect amazon at all, not even a bit.

For bitcoin to be accepted all we need is amazon having assurance from government that its fine to accept it. Plus maybe they will have their own blockchain crypto currency? Wouldn't be really that difficult to do if they want to.

Even it did not went to the moon, im sure amazon will accept bitcoin soon. As the global growth of bitcoin increases, im sure Amazon are aware that this thing is existing. Maybe they still study on how can they handle crypto investment thats why they still not accept it.

Nope. Every business is free to accept Bitcoin either 'physically' or through a payment gateway (latter option is more likely). Accepting Bitcoin through a payment gateway also allows you to ignore the volatility.

Having your own crypto currency doesn't say much. Accepting Bitcoin and potentially other crypto currencies will make sure that your business will attract a new group of users, especially in case of Amazon.

I'm sure that there are tens of thousands of crypto enthusiasts eagerly waiting for Amazon to hop on board, and they will all rush to buy goods. Imagine how much volume they would generate during a bull run....

I think that this some company or online shop like Amazon will open that but of course there's some things to be considered before that happen. We all know that there's so many merchants now accept bitcoin as a payment and I think Amazon will be open for that too.

merchants adoption could help bitcoin price movement.it make investors become more confidence about bitcoin usage in our life.but this is not the only reason , there are many reason that could support bitcoin and altcoin price.

Of course if will definitely help the price in a positive way. Amazon is the biggest whale there is, and if by chance they accept bitcoin in the future then it will be a big price boost. Amazon customers will easily buy bitcoins to be able to transact with it and the net effect will be big. But for know, we haven't heard anything from the company, but it doesn't mean they will not go for it, so we will have to wait and see.

It's a good question, and I would be interested to know if anyone can provide a factual answer. Most credit card processing fees are in the region of 1-2% per transaction, but I suspect Amazon will have negotiated a better deal than that with many providers given their market dominance.

Absolutely crypto provides a clear advantage here. I'm not saying that Amazon will never accept crypto, only that obviously they don't yet think that the cost of setup is worth the benefits they would gain, otherwise they would have done it already or at least be moving in that direction.

It's a fact to push the market demand's to go to the top again is through having a massive adoption. And  Amazon's acceptance of bitcoin would definitely give that increase that everyone is thinking of. There's a rumor posted by CZ on his twitter that Amazon is likely to create their very own token and that will be surely used by their customers who are into crypto and will give it a try for most. As long as there's adoption it will trigger the market to become better again.

even though they made their own tokens, at least they had entered a decentralized system, so this would be good for the development of bitcoin. and that is what we hope for, because amozon has traveled the world

Accepting Bitcoin as a means of payment by big businesses globally will happen soon. It is just a matter of time. I will not be surprised if they create their own cryptocurrencies Amazon inclusive

There is a lot of wishful thinking when it comes to Bitcoin acceptance.

There are people who are looking at numbers and how it can affect
the Bitcoin price and in turn how that price can be pushed to the moon
and beyond. Those people are looking at the likes of Alibaba and
Amazon and are waiting for the day the two big players decide to
accept Bitcoin payments because they associate buying goods online
on these mega sites with vast wealth for themselves and supposedly

I think they are not that stupid to make such a decision, they know that this bitcoin is very volatile so they might avoid it. I think Amazon will one day take the risk of trying it out but not going to happen with the current situation. They always look for ways to make easy payments from their customers so people all around the world can access products from their home and one of the major things which come into play is payment methods or we can say different currencies which can easily be resolved by virtual currencies. I don't think it will be decentralized if they will create their token. They will have control to the supply of it and that wouldn't declare it as something decentralize. Perhaps there are two obstacles that have Amazon exercising restraint:

1. BTC is not anonymous. If BTC became their primary means of payment, then for the first time the whole world and all of Amazon's competitors (whoever they are) will see their true earnings. This is of great significance to any competitor. Yes Amazon has to declare earnings every year, but BTC earnings are a whole different ballgame: it is true earnings on the most granular level (down to the actual transaction!) which can then filter up to an annual earnings report so one can't lie about what the earnings are, one can't repudiate the earnings in any way and one can't hide what one does not want others to see.

2. BTC simply cannot hold a candle right now to the scale at which Amazon is processing payments. I love Bitcoin. I truly do, we know it's the future but it's just not ready for the big leagues; or Amazon's league. Yes Lightning Network is out there, but it has yet to mature and prove itself worthy of processing payments at the level Amazon is running at, which is surely in the three and four figures per second. Yes I know the theory but have yet to see it in practice. Perhaps I am missing something though? Is lightning network demonstrably up to par with the kind of performance that Amazon would expect it to run at? Can it provably (not theoretically) sustain those kinds of numbers, not just in throughput but in holding that kind of liquidity?

As long as Bitcoins price is so unstable, Amazon will certainly not start accepting Bitcoin. Surely it will take a long time until we can pay with Bitcoin on Amazon. Guys problem isn't unstability of Bitcoin's price. To be fair you are requesting bitcoin payment from company that promotes it's own amazon payment and for this, offers 25$ and higher amount of money as a bonus. Also there isn't so huge demand and there isn't any opponent market that accepts bitcoin and sinks amazon/ebay/aliexpress that way. So not enough demand as for now + not enough regulations on bitcoin overally (hope you understand what I mean), such a huge company can't accept it so easily.

But being unstable is also the one that merchants consider before they accept such bitcoin as a payment method because merchants will be having a hard time to adjust the price of their items  . this can also give them losses if ever the item sold at a cheaper price but the price of bitcoin rise after the transaction  .

I do think it is not more about the price. Stability is important. With prices going up more like it is pumped up artificially, the lesser will be the acceptance possible. I do believe that it is not the high price or skyrocket price that is going to bring adoptions of bitcoin or any other cryptocurrencies in future but it is going to be stability and trust!  The pumping up and dumping is not really helping cryptocurrencies market outside creating popularity but for big retailers and wholesalers business to adopt bitcoin it most be stable.  Business men will not use money or currency that do pump up and down.

Actually its fully depends on their business policy but as Amazon is worlds one of the largest shop they must take research about it and they will put new technology, system into their business so that they can catch market. Agree that we can shop on Amazon with bitcoin but with the condition that bitcoin has stability, the value of bitcoin needs to be maintained at a relative level with low volatility to become a payment method, and don't stop there, Amazon needs to be able to manage and control transactions through bitcoin. Amazon will only accept bitcoin when BTC proves it has no mempool problems. Also, taking an hour for 6 confirmations is pretty long - and if the mempool backs up, it will take even longer.

Bitcoin is unusable because of this. If a cryptocurrency does take off, it will be something that confirms within a few minutes with no backlogs at all.

There's no clear benefit for Amazon to accept bitcoin as of now. Maybe someday once crypto is sustainable by most businesses or if it's widely accepted as a mode of payment they might consider it.

If bitcoin skyrocket again the fees will also do the same so as the time required to receive your confirmations. If now you pay about 0.5$ fees and you wait 1-2 hours to receive 6 confirmations, when the price skyrocket you will probably have to pay fees going up to 5-10$ and even so you would have to wait at least a couple hours to receive even 1 confirmation. So until this problem is fixed none of those big merchants are going to add bitcoin as a payment method.

This is actually a great idea to have such a big and large marketplace supporting the use of cryptocurrencies in making purchases of their products. Amazon's acceptance will change a big level of adoption and Marketplaces accepting bitcoin into their businesses.

Expect Amazon to accept cryptocurrency in the near future. They will use it to boost it stock price. They just run marketing campaign about Bitcoin and Amazon stock will increase. Every major corporation will do it.

There was news of a company using the Lightning Network to allow people to buy goods on Amazon. Amazon does not accept bitcoin, but the software allows instant conversion to a payment accepted by Amazon. So in practice what Amazon officially accepts is somewhat irrelevant as instant conversions become more feasible.

a large company certainly analyzes opportunities and seizes opportunities. besides amazon of course other companies will follow it. and this will be good for the growth of bitcoin, until BTC is adopted by more companies

I have the opposite point of view. Amazon, being the richest and the largest marketplace, does not need Bitcoin. It is not going to take even the slightest risk. Their income is so huge that BTC will not change anything.

If their customers demand that they accept Bitcoin and other popular cryptocurrency and they still ignore the demand or request, then developers will one day set up a huge commerce online shop like Amazon if Amazon will not take the demand, because there is a market that needs a shop like Amazon that will accept cryptocurrency.

Didn't they have it now i thought they already accepting bitcoin as a mode of payment or i was wrong. By the way, i think it is not necessary for the people to demand before they take in the cryptocurrency payments anytime they can do it as far as i know and some people ofcourse will be curious about it and sooner or later will know about cryptocurrencies.

ROFL.. do you really think that setting up an online shopping giant like Amazon is that easy? It may take many decades and for the first 10-15 years, this venture will be raking in heavy losses. Even after this period there is no guarantee that profits will roll in.

That is not the basis for amazon to accept bitcoin as payment. The Amazon company should focus on how can bitcoin increase their sales through the clients thay holds bitcoin that if AMAZON company allow anonymous clients to buy their products. Now this is where the conflict will start because some products that are for sale should be given to a known customer for the record and if a bitcoin holder will allow these terms then definitely AMAZON company could take it to the next level.

They don't need to increase their sales, as those have already hit the rooftop. And as far as I know, Amazon to this date has never allowed anonymous purchases (either due to company policy or due to government rules).

This is just, a third party application and not direct involvement by Amazon, there will be so much limitations in it and cannot be compared to when Amazon fully adopt it themselves and integrate the payment system into their platform.

A lot of them are already getting the light of it though, but I guess they are just not convince about when the right time to implement it, I read sometimes this week or last week, where a forum user posted about one of the paypal team speculating the price of BTC and paypal is still yet to adopt it, so they all know and probably waiting for the best time. Adoption of BTC by these big players will really go a long way for us in this field.

Big companies will accept BTC if it will be less violent than now or using some trusted payment processors who exchange BTC quickly for USD/EUR etc.

Same here i also read a thread about amazon accepting bitcoin before but until i read this , i see that i was not direct support but that is still a good idea because we can use our bitcoin to shop online  .  i also see a thread about paypal team speculating bitcoin . from what i understand they are only predicting the price because they maybe investing on bitcoin but its not possible for the paypal to team up with bitcoin because paypal is already a payment method online and its known to be the biggest rival of bitcoin 

Overstock (amazon competitor in the US) already accepts bitcoin. But not that many people are using it to pay for stuff.

Basically adoption happens like this: if a small competitor adopts a new technology and starts to see a huge gain in customers, their larger rival will quickly adopt the same technology in order to grab some of those customers for themselves.

But if the small competitor adopts a new technoloigy and nothing much happens, then the larger rival simply won't bother.

So, if you want amazon to adopt bitcoin, you need to spend bitcoin on overstock, open bazaar and other places that accept bitcoin. It's only when the volume of bitcoin related sales increases substantially, will companies like amazon think about enabling crypto.

May be you meant "volatile" instead of "violent". But I don't think so. The volatility will not disappear over-night if companies such as Amazon and Ebay starts accepting Bitcoin. In order to remove the volatility, we need to decrease the proportion of the coins, which are currently in free-float.

for now, they are just taking bitcoin as an opponent rather than an opportunity. just like what all traders do, they first see how to market is performing and then give it a try with a small investment. but for Amazon, the case is different amazon want to be the world's top market retailer where everyone can get whatever they want and user details/information plays a  very important role in it. they can analyze the information for more productive sales. but if they accept bitcoin payments they will lose that essential information and a large part of Indian market trades.

When that happens then bitcoin will be more considered as an asset. Amazon don't accept bitcoin because the unstable price of it. It will be dangerous for amazon if accept bitcoin when bitcoin price skyrocketing because the price of bitcoin will be fall after that. So the problem solver for this is by using vendor service. Then bitcoin users can use their bitcoin to buy goods at amazon amd amazon still get income in fiat.

The reason being is:- no one wants anything to do with a thing that's too volatile to support a economy in a way it should be supported .

I think if Bitcoin becomes stable and shows wide public acceptance then there won't be anything left to do for other big companies other than accepting it.

I hope they do would be easier to fund the wallet and won't need to use third party GC providers, Steam was accepting Bitcoin before it skyrocketed last year I wish it came back too most of the known sites don't keep BTC as payment mode due to the price fluctuations.

Well, what we can do right now is to hope and pray that it does happen since I know a lot of people are using Amazon to purchase or buy things and Bitcoin and other crypto currencies will surely make the payment method or transaction easy. The problem here is that I don't think they will accept that so quickly since we all know how unstable or volatile it is.

I think Amazon wont engage to bitcoin due to the high price of bitcoin, imagine they will bought it in the high price and if the price drops they are now in negative profit and I think they will settle for the currency with high stability in the market.

We should wait some more times for such kind of news. In my opinion Amazon will accept bitcoin when price will be in a stable range. Bitcoin price is not so high at this time and not stable too. Hopefully within few days, it will be a payment method on Amazon.

The situation is completely reversed. If Bitcoin will become more stable and predictable it will be accepted by giants like Amazon. In the situation of a bull run they will not manifest their interest for accepting BTC or any other altcoin.

I dont think that Amazon have even considered accepting Bitcoins due to its volatility and they are not in the business of losing money and that may very much happen with the issue of high volatilty. They could however convert their BTC to FIAT on a daily basis if they don't want to lose money.

I will support you. Amazon has the best income in the world. This is the richest market, the best-known organization. They will never take risks to start working with the cryptocurrencies as crypto can fall anytime.

The global use and acceptance of bitcoin depends on some major platform such as Amazon and other marketing platforms but i think they would think of accepting bitcoin especiall when they see the price of bitcoin probably reaching over $20k. Imagine receiving bitcoin worth $500 and in a week time it rises to about $600 ;). That's sure some good business.

I do not think that Bitcoin have to skyrocket again to be accepted by amazon. I think that Bitcoin will be accapted as a payment only after right regulation which is not currently case, espeacially not in USA.
Although would be great to have options to buy something on Amazon with Bitcoin or even better with Litecoin, because it is cheaper to transfer.

But the same situation could be said about bitcoin price decreasing. Imagine receiving bitcoin worth 500$ this weeks and next week it's worth only 400$. Would you want to work with cryptocurrencies anymore after this happens? I don't really think so. Amazon has a reason why they are not accepting crypto and that's probably because there is not enough demand yet and they are afraid adding crypto to their platform will not help them that much.

In fact, there are few big companies that accepted Bitcoin. Look at recent news, Starbucks starts to use Bitcoin in their business. Regulation for some big countries are not that hard, they could quickly act to any new things in this world. But, Big companies don't need to rush because there are a lot of uncertainty in this crypto space, they need to ensure that everything will run smoothly and there will be no obstacle to face.

I don't know there is nothing about implementation with the payments using Bitcoin is not considered by the Amazon so if they are officially announced only we can hundred percent trust this otherwise the possibility was very low right now to implement this process of payment method.

of course it's not as easy as we imagine. yes maybe they will look for ways to be able to use crypto if it is for their good, if it is true they also need arrangements so that online crime is not easy and things are not desired by the company.

You can already use moon browser with an extension to use bitcoin in amazon and the likes. I also like coinpayments.net and I already used that website to purchase a service for myself.

The way i see it, Amazon will adopt bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies if they are sure enough that they can generate more revenues and business by offering this option. We all know that many merchants are complaining even before in 2017 that their expectations of sales coming those using cryptocurrency were not met. In 2019, we should be hoping this can change but if the mindset of many bitcoin holders is to speculate I don't think we can expect otherwise. There is no use of introducing another mode of payment and then not a critical number of people are availing of it all because many of us are holding our bitcoin tight in anticipation of a bigger bull run soon. This is just a matter of business strategy.

I am quite sure they wouldn't do that anytime soon. I think The Amazon company might consider investing in bitcoin but would never accept it as payment. Why? there would be too many complications in their transactions because of bitcoin's volatility. The prices would change on a daily basis and would simply be an added workload/process which will cost them more money. Oh yeah, imagine millions of refunds in bitcoin that they have to process considering the value might go up or down the next minute/day. I'm sure there will come a time for this idea when mass adoption happens, though.

It is not something that is impossible to happen, i mean recently there have been rumors about eBay might start accepting bitcoin and other crypto as payment method and if that happens, it will change the whole vision of other companies towards it and if it successful and proves to attract many people , we will definitely see not just amazon but other major companies starting to accept it as well, things are moving so fast and crypto is actually making some significant impact, so you it might start taking over sooner than we know it.

I agree with you, investing in the crypto market if the price of bitcoin has a sharp increase is what Amazon can consider but if required they should consider bitcoin and crypto to become a payment method, that would be impossible when it has so many reasons and processes that need them to handle. The most typical is the regulations, the government still does not have a clear regulation on crypto, a large company will not be able to accept an illegal product, another problem is that value has too much volatility, which can always create injustice for buyers

If one of the competitors of amazon will try to use BTC then they might consider it, soon they will going to use it as it's much easier and faster in transactions and that's why they'll be needing.

We spoke on this forum about amazon accepting btc payments 4 years ago, and they still didn`t accept btc as a payment method. One day they will, that`s for sure, I didn`t change my mind about that, but now I`m thinking that amazon can accept some crypto payments, but maybe not bitcoin, at least not in the first time, maybe they will favorize some alt before they start to accept btc. I say that cause some project are working really hard to make new contracts, new partners, maybe some of them are already in negotiations with amazon.

Until and unless Amazon have its own coin we cannot expect direct acceptance of bitcoin into their business. Already they were the world leader with the fiat acceptance. When that is possible what's the need to move towards cryptocurrency or bitcoin. Sooner or later they will start to accept that is why they have bought domains with blockchain,btc etc as they understand that day will come and don't think it will happen after but maybe before, as we saw other big companies started do it.
