The scenario ended up with the OP not paying anyone. So I would suggest to get an escrow even if it's for just 40$.

Seriously, if you are really paying for sign ups you wouldnt need to wait for a week just to pay $40 you are only saying monday so you can get more sign ups before realizing you will not pay for it
