Title: Is it possible if we build a blockchain without a coin?
Post by: Levyathan on January 30, 2019, 10:11:37 AM
Blockchain, believed by anyone else as the main thing of cryptocurrency. Without it, crypto transaction would not work. If we implemented blockchain in the reality, is it possible?

Yes it possible to implement Blockchain without Cryptocurrency  , Blockchain it a technology  on its own and Cryptocurrency  was created on blockchain technology  . Blockchain technology enables distributed public ledgers that hold immutable data in a secure and encrypted way and ensure that transactions can never be altered. While Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are the most popular examples of blockchain usage, this “distributed ledger technology” (DLT) is finding a broad range of uses. Data storage, financial transactions, real estate, asset management and many more uses are being explored.

Blockchain is a technology a distributed ledger and crypto currencies are the implementator of that technology.

For example in voting/election system we can use Blockchain technology to make it more faster , reliable and more transparent to the voters.

Absolutely possible mate, Blockchain is not always about token/coin (cryptocurrencies), that's just "small" part of Blockchain Implementation.

PS: Agree with comment from bp124 and bigatenz

Blockchain is the underlying technology in which Cryptocurrencies are built on but blockchain is not built on nor dependent on Cryptocurrencies... So what I am trying to say is that Blockchains can be built without Cryptocurrencies because they are not dependent on Cryptocurrencies at all.

no, the main "thing of cryptocurrency" is the cryptography behind it. that is how transactions are created and fraud is prevented. the blockchain comes next as the ledger that holds the record of the transactions to "chain" all of them together.
you would still need some sort of ledger to store them, whether you call it "blockchain" or something else doesn't matter.

Blcokchain is one of the high technology, this uses the very complicated, safe, and also advanced system to build this blcokchain technology. So far, it is only used for the cryptocurrency usage. However, I think that many developer may also be interested at this kind of technology. It is possible for them to use the blcockhain technology in some reality world cases, such as banking system maybe.

it seems unlikely that it will be applied in reality because the blockchain is identical to the code and internet network that must be used, if only limited to the concept it is clear, because the system services are implemented.

Although according to you, Blockchain, it is believed by others to be the main thing for me not because of cryptocurrency, has its own system, and blockchain also has its own concept so I think the reality will not be possible

You should understand that cryptocurrencies certainly have a lot in common with blockchain, but blockchain technology may not work in the financial sector, so the answer to your question will be YES, you can use this technology everywhere.

Blockchain was indeed created for cryptocurrency. An implementation form for recording all bitcoin transactions.
It is impossible to implement it in real life because it is digital, of course it will be difficult for example to record all transactions around the world and it will take a lot of time to do that.

There was someone who wrote an article about how blockchain can be used to an election system. It certain don't require users to own currencies if its used that way.  The government can create such system and voters can then just vote but that is if they really want to do such changes.

It is possible, but who wouldn't want to use it? It is possible to create an economy with Blockchain. This is of course not a simple thing. With the Blockchain network only data transfer can also be provided. In the future they will be used for only data transfer and some other stuff.

I do not see any problems of doing this. Blockchain technology is the basic for every crypto currency and not the other way. I believe that blockchain will have a long future but I have doubts that crypto currencies would follow.

Technically definitely possible but there needs to be something instead. You can't have a void blockchain, sometimes they use blockchains for insurance, sometimes they use it for real estate, there is always something that is used, healthcare, cars, collectibles, casinos.

There needs to be something in that blockchain that keeps it alive otherwise you will have a blockchain that has nothing in it that worth nothing at all. If you however exchange the cryptocurrencies into something else you will have yourself a focused and niche blockchain which is possible. What you will use the blockchain for is up to the creator of the blockchain but that part is getting more and more common with people seeing benefits of blockchain in the world and try to implement it into their sectors.

i don't think so instead it's impossible to build a blockchain without a coin how to incentivize miners how to secure the network the only possibility as i can see private blockchain

Yes, it is absolutely possible to create a Blockchain without implementing cryptocurrency transactions over it. Blockchain is a distributed peer to peer network while cryptocurrency is just a digital asset meant for making payments over the Blockchain network. Blockchain has many use cases and you can design any Blockchain to fulfill your needs. It is still an emerging technology with enormous amount of possibilities.
So it depends on us whether we have to implement cryptocurrency in a Blockchain or not.

I think its possible since in Blockchain is the technology or system for many uses such as for transparency, Banking and finance and many more. The truth in my country  Blockchain was already eyed for electoral voting system to bring more transparency and honest election results not just like that Our banking sector is already doing a posibility studies to connect the rural banks and cooperative in the countryside through Blockchain.

It is already clear from the answers what a blockchain is, and what a coin is on a blockchain. Blockchain exists and will exist as a self-sufficient and independent phenomenon. It is more important to know whether a cryptocurrency will live?

Blockchain in itself is a technology that can stand on it's own

if possible, then what is blockchain technology for? The blockchain is a system that supports a product, and in this case the blockchain supports crypto. it can be used too, maybe for fiat or game tokens.

There are plenty of examples of this, you do not have to make the blockchain with a coin but you can in fact make it with other stuff as well. Take cryptokitties for example, it is using the ethereum blockchain for the existence but could it be done via their own blockchain without using any other coins blockchain ? Sure they could, instead of coins we would have kitties and that would be the end of it.

There are products for insurance, so instead of coins they use blockchain to store insurance and replaced coins with contracts or whatever the insurance policy is called.

Basically, I have never seen an "empty" blockchain, it is definitely required to put something in there instead of a coin but maybe empty is possible as well? Just never seen one. So you put anything you want in there replacing coins and you got yourself a blockchain.

In any case, today we see the results of the use of blockchain technology. In many areas, and in the first place, each project has its own coins. Based on this cryptocurrency, an integral part of the technology is the block chain and fake existence is impossible.

Like as bp124 mentioned, blockchain is a technology and we can utilize it in various ways. It doesn't stick at cryptocurrency only. Blockchain can be used to prove real-time data like proving copy pasta.

It would be nice if this technology could be used to combat fraud or crime, but today we understand that many criminal groups use cryptocurrency for their activities and this is very alarming for state law enforcement agencies in many countries.
