Title: AWESOME (AND UNDERUSED) FORUM FEATURE!
Post by: TheNewAnon135246 on January 30, 2019, 03:31:02 PM
Since the addition of the merit system and the new DT system there has been constant arguing in several boards. Most arguements are really about nothing and SMF has a great feature for it: the ignore button!

Don't like someone? => hit the ignore button!
Getting harrassed by someone => hit the ignore button!
Think someone is an a**hole? = hit the ignore button!

It's really that simple! Let's try to keep this community a bit more mature. There are plenty of anti-crypto people trying to make use look bad, let's not help them by looking like a bunch of kids.

I don't know what feature you're talking about because you are ignored. :)

Surely one of the most underrated features here. I joined at the time when arguments concerning DT changes were at the peak which was a bit normal but then it got worse to accusations of the existence of a certain cult then counter-accusations and trolling. It even got me wondering if I was in the right place.

In recent times "ignore" button has already been my favourite button. Its the best way to keep yourself  far from the people who actually don't know anything but spamming or trolling.

I really don't use that button much because I want to read all the drama here on the forum and trollers make this forum filled with fun so it actually gives some excitement to read those kinds of threads.

Don't use Ignore if someone goes crazy because they are the entertainer here. :D

So using TMAN's profile is bait to have you know who coming here and fill pages after pages of useless crap thus prove how great the ignore button is.... well played

Are you conspiring to ignore TMAN?
he is a funny cunt really.

Too bad I have him on ignore  ;D

The ignore feature is worthless.  If I used it every time it's warranted, what would I do for entertainment?

To some extent it's all fun and entertaining, but it does get annoying and irritating with time when you see some folks bring up baseless trolls most especially when you're being brought into the issue.

Sadly you make yourself part of the issue when you say people are trolling with baseless accusations when they are presenting facts and observable events.

Want to be left out of it then don't be so net negative to the board.

There should be a 1 Merit fee each time you click "Show/Hide".

I don't think I've used the ignore button much. It'd gapt annoying because I'd ignore so many people that I'd get to a point where I'd load up a thread and just see about 5 posts in it.

Also, it means I can't report spammers to the mods so someone else has to suffer through the same spam...

Lol, why do you think everything evolves around you ? I never even thought about you for a second when I made the reply, I have nothing whatsoever against you bud, the fact that I disagree with you on an occasion or two doesn't change that, Get over yourself, really.

The ignore button is great, and my ignore list is huge.  I can't even keep up with all the shitposters that should be put on ignore--they just keep coming and coming, like annoying enemies that keep respawning endlessly in old NES games.

Another forum feature that the latest batch of trolls has discovered is the self-moderated thread.  I would advise most DT members or anyone who doesn't agree with the anti-DT trolls to avoid threads like this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5103988.0, because of stuff like this:

(26 posts by 9 users with 5 merit deleted.)

Obviously they've found a little bit of power and intend to use it to the fullest to censor anyone who disagrees with them.  And yes, I've made self-moderated threads but I give a lot of leeway to members and basically don't want the same old trolling and shitposting in my threads.  Disagreements are fine, but zero-value posts and rants that I've read 100 times already are not.  With these guys and their threads, it's not worth the effort to even post in them, since there's a high chance your post will get deleted.  It's certainly their right to self-mod as they see fit, but I think they're just doing it to screw with DT members and the Meta regulars.

Edit:  As an example of what gets deleted from that thread, here's an excellent post by HCP that I gave merit to:

give a good reason why my real customer feedback showing untrusted?
And your feedback showing as trusted? you did not even done any transactions with him.

or are you just defending this forum even though i have got a point?
Quote
Because there is no actual way of proving that you even conducted a trade... if ALL ratings were automatically set as trusted, a scammer could simply create 10s or 100s of fake accounts and leave themselves 10s or 100s of "positive" trust ratings, artificially increasing their trust rating. And you think this would be a better system? Huh

The whole point of DT members tagging "dodgy" users is to try and help newbies by raising a red flag about the trustworthiness of a user. It does not mean the user is a scammer necessarily... it simply means that someone on the "Default Trust" list thinks that person is untrustworthy. Hopefully, it would encourage newbies to investigate and do their due diligence before trading/conducting business with a tagged account.

Current reasons that some DT members hand out red trust:
- User committed a scam
- User was spamming
- User was promoting a scam
- User was using an alt account to do something untrustworthy (merit abuse, trust abuse, campaign abuse etc)
- User asked for non-collateral loan
- User bought/sold (or tried to buy/sell) an account

With regards to this last reason, some, but not all, DT members regard this as untrustworthy... because historically, a large percentage of "bought" accounts have been used to scam or spam or both. Buying/selling accounts is not against the rules per se... but some DT members will tag bought/sold accounts as they do not consider them trustworthy. Generally, they will include a reference and a note to indicate that the account was bought/sold.

Imagine you have a "Legendary" account with green trust... suddenly pops up on the Loan section looking for a 1 BTC loan. Potential Lender checks their history, sees they have a history of positive comments and trades from 2 years ago... thinks "yeah, looks legit".

Now imagine that account was bought yesterday by some random guy who found out about Bitcointalk last week... do you think it is fair that that account has "positive" green trust? Huh Did the current "owner" actually earn all that trust? Huh

Update on that thread:  (33 posts by 14 users with 11 merit deleted.)

I  seldom use this ignore feature, i simply skim really fast when i don't like what I read, aside from that i think there is a chance even trolls and shitposters might for once in their life post something that could be useful, even if it's just a good joke.

Who is this TMAN everybody keeps talking about? I thought that computer forums should have coffee men. And then there is that larda character - shouldn't we be talking about Lambos?

I think we should replace the ignore button with pie instead.  :)

Never heard of him.

As for Lambos.... it's 2019. Lambo dreams have been mercilessly crushed by reality. We're forced to drive cheap-ass Audis, which would be a pathetic discussion topic for any forum.

Don't worry too much about the ignored spammers, there are a lot of members who keep quoting them, so you won't miss the most important part of their spammy posts :D
