We're going to have to choose a native cryptocurrency pretty soon and Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey strongly believes it will be Bitcoin.

"I believe the internet will have a native currency and I don’t know if it’s bitcoin. I think it will be [bitcoin] given all the tests it has been through and the principles behind it, how it was created."

According to Dorsey, Bitcoin is something that was created and tested on the internet, therefore making Bitcoin a part of the internet.

Absolutely in agreement with Twitter CEO based on the past days of Bitcoin. Bitcoin being the mainstream manifestation of the blockchain deserve to be rewarded as the Native Cryptocurrency. This coming from the CEO[Twitter] will be well appreciated if it can be actualize. Internet need to have its own Native coin.

I think he's right - if Bitcoin manages to combat its problems, mainly volatility because scalability is already being addressed in a successful way with Lightning and other second-layer techniques.

But I think there's also room for other cryptocurrencies. One could interpret Dorsey's opinion in a "Bitcoin maximalist" way (that only Bitcoin will reach enough adoption) but I am convinced that market forces will drive people to other cryptocurrencies, too, while Bitcoin may stay the unquestioned leader. The article is somewhat misleading here, as Dorsey is talking about currencies in general and not about cryptocurrencies, so he sees Bitcoin as a competitor for fiat currencies that "was born on the Internet" and will see more adoption by people who are often online (and not only at WhatsApp and Facebook).

However I'm not so positive about what he says in the last part of the article:

This is desirable for financial transactions, but not for everything (private chats or photos, for example). So I would favour an Internet model where not everything is governed by blockchains. Private communication is better using other ways where it can be deleted. There are also decentralized options for that, like Tim Berners-Lee's Solid or Hubzilla.

It is true bitcoin can be considered as the native currency in the internet because as the first digital currency in the world it was able to endure many tests and problems since it was developed and launched through the internet and in its entire journey it was able to face them very well and durign that period it was able to gain many users than any other cryptocurrency in the market so it is definity can consider as the native currency in the internet

I think people are putting words in his mouth, he said and I quote, " I believe the internet will have a native currency and I don’t know if it’s bitcoin. "

He is also biased because everyone knows he is a proponent of Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies for many years now. I would be more exited if a influencer without any connection to Crypto currencies make statements like this.  ;)

Bitcoin will act as a global currency and it will be specially useful for all the organization that have reach/businesses in multiple countries.
Good to know about the views of twitter CEO and waiting for a day when Google CEO also embrace bitcoin.

From the beginning it was bitcoin who started it all but someday as things progress new platform will be develop not just some copy paste crap that those ICO uses but a new code that surpasses even bitcoin that is the time where you have to pick which crypto are you going to support.

If truly He said this then I think this is good news because it come to show that many of these social media developers are beginning to see the potential of bitcoin not only this, the statement shows that he must have gone through the whitepaper or must have read many stories about bitcoin. I hope very soon we shall witness another cryptocurrency revolution where crypto will become the dorminant currency that will be generally accepted not only on the internet but for making payment in an offline merchant store.

It's true, already it is termed to be the internet currency. We're in need for the same, as the internet user community is getting widened regularly. Twitter CEO putting forth such a statement will surely make a impact on the market. More good news similar to the same needs to come to make bitcoin the currency of the internet.

I do not quite understand what he means by that statement or a global internet currency. It seems like he believes bitcoin would be used for making purchases online. Bitcoin would equally be used for purchases offline in retail stores and paying for services rendered.

that statement is somewhat restricting bitcoin to the "internet" while bitcoin is not just an online currency but you can also use it as a currency in physical stores granted you still have to use the internet to broadcast the transaction but nowadays everything including banks are using the internet so you can't call that "internet money".

The term "native currency of the internet" is kinda pointless to me.I don't understadn it.
Bitcoin still isn't a 100% currency.It's a digital asset.BTC's value will have to decrease over time,in order to abide by the Gresham's law about bad money.That's how btc will replace electronic fiat payments.

Yeah we knew it that he's a pro bitcoin and it would be better to hear if someone tells that. A well known person that doesn't have any relation or isn't really into bitcoin, just a plain opinion. But for this kind of statement, we mostly hear those anti-bitcoin.

I think for the explanation above is to make bitcoin as an internet payment tool in the future, it is clear that bitcoin in the internet world is long enough and has become part of the internet world so things that might happen can be a currency on the internet

The internet is a global tool for connecting the digital world together so it makes sense that there will be a currency for such a service. The only real contender of course is bitcoin

I don't think his statement restricts Bitcoin at all. He simply said that the internet needs its own currency and that Bitcoin could fill that need. I don't necessarily agree with needing a native internet currency, but it would make sense for Bitcoin to be just that when things get down to it. Meanwhile, it could just as easily be real world money at the same time.


I don't think that's applicable to Bitcoin at all. Fiat isn't inherently more valuable than Bitcoin, and even if it is, Bitcoin's value wouldn't need to drop for it to be considered "bad". It mostly revolves around the inherent value of the actual currencies. For this to kick in in favor of Bitcoin, people would have to consider paper (with ever increasing supply, no less) considerably superior to scarce digital money which could be spent regardless of borders.

Words for such big personality is one good thing for us bitcoiners to feel confident about our holdings though what @Kakmakr said the man maybe misinterpreted the word “I don’t know if its bitcoin”but on the other hand i guess he was pointing to cryptocurrencies so the more chances that its bitcoin os other legit crypto

This is good news. People who think of Bitcoin as scam will soon begin to realize that it's okay to have bitcoin. And if people start buying it then we may seen a new price height for 2019! Yahoo! The good news just keep on coming! Hoping for SEC to approve the BTC ETF too! This may be a good for BTC after 10 years from creation.

Native cryptocurrency of the world - Daydream!

So we can certainly expect bitcoin to become the native cryptos of the internet because it has got all such qualities that is require to become the same! The similar way Paypal was the king of internet payments once upon a time, bitcoin can rule this space in the upcoming years. However, when someone thinks that bitcoin will become the reserve currency of the world, it is a pure daydream!

If for internet payments and cross-border transactions, yes, it can possibly be the king. However, if we are talking about the whole world, fiat currency will still be the go-to since most wouldn't want to hold volatile assets in exchange for their goods. Even now, there are only a handful of services wanting to accept crypto payments as they prove to be not that excellent in handling value, and even if there are third-party payment processors for bitcoin, why wouldn't they just go the direct route which is easier? It's good that services are developing platforms for crypto, but right now the public is not having it, or would not be accepting it as long as its volatility still shoots through the roof.

I believe him also. Bitcoin has passed the test of time and will surely do well as an internet native cryptocurrency. The rate of adoption has been astronomical and will not stop soon.

From every sense of it, bitcoin is one coin that stands alone intense of it extremely secured network and wide level of trust in its network protocol. Well, we all already know that bitcoin is a native currency of the internet. In most cases i have paid for certain services using bitcoin instead of credit cards. I totally agree with him on that. Bitcoin has stood out and maintained it's strength over the years in spite of all negative attacks ftom the media. Now, they are gradually embracing it.

I think when it comes to transferring online it's mostly micro transactions of a couple $$$.

We learned last time when BTC pumped up that transactions cost a lot and take way too much time.

I love BTC, don't get me wrong, but I really feel its going to be the GOLD standard for transferring large sums of value.

As for smaller, p2p transfers, I'd suggest something with much a higher token supply...

Honestly - I hate ripple, but I just feel that would be a much better option for online use.

It will be good if bitcoin will be use as  the native currency for the internet. However, The article was indeed a lovely one because it will help in advertise bitcoin market and it will also make more people which are yet to use bitcoin to understand the benefit which bitcoin can give to them.
But, still we need to be sure if the story were truth though.

I am in support of this article because bitcoin has undergone several testing stage for the past weeks and it still continue to prove strong. This coming from the twitter CEO is also a good news which people should look into.

Well, it is no wonder if bitcoin will become the native currency because bitcoin is the first crypto in the world.
The volume and the value are on the top among other cryptocurrencies too. Therefore, it is normal if it become native currency of internet.
Many peoples already trust bitcoin, own it and using it as their currency.

Not sure about that, but maybe the price can increase for a little because when bitcoin price wants to increase too higher, there is need more than just news. Although the news will give some effect to the price, still we need to have more investor to make the price increase back to the higher price. I think if he really says that, we need to take a look at what will happen later and I hope bitcoin price can jump to the higher price.

I agree with the CEO of Twitter that bitcoin can really be the native currency in the internet. Bitcoin already faces many problem through the years but still remain strong. And now that people are starting to recognize and accept bitcoin, it is really possible.

well, i don't disagree with the twitter CEO as bitcoin as so much promise to be the Native cryptocurrency of the world. So many cryptocurrency has been up within the past few years but none has shown so much promise and prospect like bitcoin

Choosing bitcoin as the native cryptocurrency is not a bad idea because bitcoin is the most popular cryptocurrency in the world.
With high volume and liquidity in the market, you can use it more ease as native currency.
