Dears,
With so many bitcoin wallets are promoting themselves nowadays, I wonder if there’s a rank for them? Sometimes it’s difficult to choose what kind of wallet should be used.
If you do know which wallet is better, kindly recommend it. I may present a rank here with your recommendations.

There's no sort of "rank". There are a few good wallets, but which is better depends on the user. Wallet A might be better for me, while wallet B might be better for you. It depends on personal preference.

Anyway, if you're holding huge amounts of bitcoin or cryptocurrencies in general, as always, I heavily suggest purchasing a hardware wallet like the Trezor[1] or the Ledger Nano S[2] if you're not tech-savvy enough to properly and securely make a paper wallet, or an air-gapped device. Among the two, I personally prefer the Ledger, but yea, personal preference. I suggest doing research on both devices for you to decide on your own.

If you don't hold much bitcoin, like probably sub $500, a mobile wallet like Mycelium[3] should be enough. Just make sure to store your private keys OFFLINE. Not on a note file, not on you email, on Facebook Messenger, etc etc.

It would be cool to see a site kind of like coin market cap but for wallets, could be ranked by downloads, transactions etc

There were more and more wallets getting into usage. Trezor, ledger being the most secure wallets into usage. I personally haven't used any of these, myself being a beginner has been using blockchain, electrum and myetherwallet for all my wallet needs. Till date haven't encountered any issues in security.

I don't think it's possible to get that kind of data unless the wallet creators provide that data publicly. I also don't really see why it would be beneficial to them. Sure they could show that their software is used a lot, but I don't think users would be happy to know that all their transactions and downloads are tracked.

There is no official ranking but my personal ranking is:

Hardware wallets and Paper Wallets are the most secure.
As mentioned above the two most popular are Trezor & Ledger
I use Trezor without issue.

Desktop wallets like Electrum and Exodus are quite popular
and are secure depending you the users security and privacy
habits. I use both without issue.

Mobile wallets or smartphone wallets are secure also but
again user security and privacy is a factor. I use
Electrum and Coinomi without issue.

WARNING: Make sure you download wallets from the official source, if in doubt Check and Double check!

There is no standard established for ranking down the list of digital wallets. But if you are looking gor the most popular wallets then we have Coinbase for btc and MEW for alts and tokens. However these two or even only one of them can be considered no. 1 because of the fact that each wallet are not very distinct to one another, they only have different interface, security and supported crypto but they all have same purpose — to store coins.

Anyway, you don't necessarily stick on famous ones (like my examples above). My advice for you is to use local based wallet which is the most trusted in your country. It is a lot more convenient  (according to what I have experienced).

Nowadays there are more cryptocurrencies wallet but I think not all them are totally secure just why I still using my hardware wallet. I also have online wallet which is blockchain wallet. For me it's better to hardware wallet than using other kind of wallets.

I get that you are just talking in generalities here, but I am curious as to what you consider to be "huge amounts" so as to warrant a hardware wallet and how you came up with the sub $500 in value suitable for a more economical mobile wallet (with the supposed implication that the higher security hardware wallet is not really necessary for anything below $500).

I'm going to guess your rationale is probably based on the cost of a Trezor or Ledger itself... If you only have $500 in BTC value - why would you spend roughly 20% of that on a more secure wallet when there are any other less expensive options out there?  Seems a bit expensive!

But the guy who today holds $500 in BTC had nearly $3000 in value for the same amount of BTC just over a year ago (if my math is right). Buying a hardware wallet would have cost the same amount in fiat money on both ends of that timeline, but the value of the cryptos on it has changed drastically. It has fallen, but according to many it can rise back up to and surpass that high water mark. Nobody knows for sure how much value the HODL guy with $500 in current BTC stands to lose if he chooses a less secure storage method for his Bitcoin in February of 2019 and is subsequently hacked or loses his paper wallet and then somehow John McAfee's li'l buddy is spared and the BTC price skyrockets!

I guess what I am saying is that if it is worth protecting, it is worth protecting ...  ... within reason - I wouldn't recommend someone buy a hardware wallet to store 10,000 satoshi.  But in saying that, I suppose I've done the very same thing as you in making a personal judgment on what amount is worth protecting and what amount is just throwing it all away.

(Just for frame of reference, I'm holding less than $300 in BTC and I have all but a very small amount of it on a Trezor).

There is no an "official" ranking system.
Personally, I trust only hardware wallets: they're implementing the safest security at the moment.
Try to avoid cloud wallets that don't share with you the private key (or just avoid them at all!).

I still use the good ole JAX wallet.. has yet to let me down

I don't think there is some official rank but users often share their experiences with wallets and make their favourite lists based on own experiences and satisfaction.
To my opinion security features and access and control of private keys and fees are the most important features.
At my list at the top there are Trezor and Ledger Nano as hard wallets and Mycelium as a mobile wallet. Try to avoid web based online wallets like blockchain, security is not one of their best features.

Most of the wallet now are not safe to use and very risky to adopt it especially for downloadable wallet in android.
So for crypto wallet instead of coinomi MEW(myetherwallet) is the best, I had been used this for a years then for Bitcoin
Electrum or multibit.hd are also better than anything else.

You could you whatever suits you, there is no wallet rank.

I was a huge fan of Electrum, but in past 9 months Electrum  had a lot of problems and I switched to Core. This is for small amounts only and everyday use. For larger amounts I'm using Ledger as a cold storage.

You already have your answers from this topic however I would like to add an extra information. If you use a desktop wallet then use a multiSig wallet. Use two device for each keys. This will help you to keep your Bitcoin safe from the hacker.

Like the others said there's no rank on bitcoin wallet. Firstly you have to explain to us what device do you use to install bitcoin wallet, so we can make recommendation bitcoin wallet properly for you.

There's no ranking for that because there are different uses for wallets and the best Bitcoin wallet depends on what the users needs. If what you need is a wallet that will hold your Bitcoins safely in long period of time then the best choice is a cold wallet (hardware or paper wallet) this is also best option if you are planning to hold huge amount of Bitcoins but if not, there are some alternatives like desktop/mobile wallets that will also give you full access of your wallet and private key, if you are a trader or likes to spend your Bitcoins then you need a hot wallet (exchange, online, web wallets) so you can transfer your coins easily, but will restrict you for having full access to your coins and you are letting them secure it for you, which is risky since those online wallet service providers are the targets of hackers. Will not recommend any as I haven't tried all of those and don't know which is better, also I don't know which user interface is more user friendly for you.

Rankings is only based on users preferences as we have diffferent views and experiences on any wallets. In general, rankings should not be a factor when choosing but having a wide research of some good feedbacks on a certain wallet.

To avoid repeatitive responses given by other people here, try to search for a feedbacks of all wallets that will mentioned here. It's a must that you will not just follow what others suggested to you but to look for some details about it. This is to give you an idea on some wallet features resulting on additional knowledge about how wallet works.

$500 was just sort of a rough guess, so don't over-interpret that  ;D. Deciding when getting a hardware wallet is "worth it" really depends on the holder.

True! Though that's assuming that the person using the hardware wallet would not add more bitcoin/crypto to his/her wallet. But yea, if it's only $500 without any plans of adding more coins/tokens, then definitely not worth it. Again, hugely depends on the intentions of the holder.

I don't think that there is a bitcoin wallet rankings in the cryptocurrency world. Bitcoin wallet did have rank (let's put it this way) in terms of safetiness of the wallet. There are lots of bitcoin wallets yo choose from and one of it is trezor or ledger, it may require you to pay an amount to have your wallet available to use.

I'm not worried by the Electrum phishing attempts. If you get a message telling you to download a "new" Electrum version, just ignore it and switch servers.

In an ideal world everyone would use core. Here i have been running bitcoind to sync the blockchain, but by my guesstimates i will take me a whole month to sync... I simply want to run a full node, an Electrum server, and possibly a LN server; oh and a core wallet of course...

But for most people this is unacceptable, from a practical point of view, the light wallets are a necessary evil.

So my recommendations are:

• Electrum (https://electrum.org/) if you need a working wallet NOW.
• Bitcoin core (https://bitcoin.org/en/bitcoin-core/) if your internet has gigabit speeds.

Why would you recommend Electrum? it still under phishing attacks which I think still not safe to use.


I recommend bitcoin core wallet but this is not a lite version of bitcoin wallet like electrum but I found another wallet which recommended by our forum admin. Take a look at the post below.

That's great that there's another reliable wallet for us crypto users to store our coins in a safe wallet and besides I didn't say that Ethereum is not actually safe but we should consider the problem about the phishing attacks maybe not only in there but also in other wallets. Make sure you have installed some security in every trade you have made like Metamask and don't let anyone can access your account or sharing your private keys.

What are you talking about? It seems you are talking about ethereum wallets such as MEW and metamask. Did you read the OP problem's, he/she ask for recommended bitcoin wallet not ethereum wallet.

Thank you all for the answers! I ask for the rank because I don’t wanna put all crypto in one wallet. I prefer to separate in several wallets. Personally, I think the exchange is not safe to keep our crypto.

Good choice! Disseminating your assets into multiple wallets is good because you can avoid One time, Big time loss if ever the wallet you are using got hacked. However, this is hassle a little bit since wallets nowadays already required KYC which you need to fill up but nonetheless everything is beneficial as long as the wallets you choose are all legit. (But if you want to store verry big amount of coin then for me one cold storage is enough).

From there, (Based on my own reasons) I will tell you which is the best in my short opinion, or which is best suited for a specific use.
[I wont include some because I haven't used them, it's up to you to trust them]

List1: (Full node wallets)
Offers complete security as advertised by Bitcoin, huge disk space and bandwidth as well as technical knowledge required.

• 1. Bitcoin Core
• 2. Bitcoin Knots
• 3. Armory (Least recommended)

List2: (SPV Clients)
Uses a third-party or a centralized server as the "validator" (full node).

• 1. Wasabi - Second best choice from Electrum (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5107444.msg49635554#msg49635554) but with the current "scare", its centralized servers (nodes) may be "safer" until Electrum filtered out most of the bad servers.
  
• 2. Electrum - The most functional Lightweight client available. If you're not a total "dimwit" and uses the Latest Version (https://electrum.org/#download), you don't have to worry about the "current situation"
  
• 3. Copay - Same as Wasabi but has different features.
• 4. Bither (Not-updated or stalled since Apr 2018)

There is no bitcoin wallet rank list but there is a discussion about which of the wallets are more secured in storing or keeping your bitcoin. If I were you I'd focus on finding a wallet secured like trezor or ledger nano s for example.

It's a shrewd idea to spread your coins all across different wallets for maximum security,but also when you're using a hardware wallet,security is assured and it's safe to store your crypto coins in them,rather than diversifying them across lesser secure ones.
Choose a good hardware wallet and store up coins,you will have no problem doing that

I'm amazed that nobody around has recommended Exodus, it's one of the best desktop wallets I've used till now!

No rank, even newbie in the forum like you can use any wallet you want.
Personally I'm using an electrum wallet (segwit) as it only require cheaper transaction fee.
Don't use wallet in exchanges, they are friendly but they are not safe, and also transaction fee is high, ranging from BTC0.0005 to BTC0.0015.
