Title: Is it a nice idea moving to Exodus from Blockchain? (wallets)
Post by: axicron on February 08, 2019, 07:30:53 PM
Most of my crypto I store at cold storage, but I also have some coins to use in everyday life, which are on Blockchain.info wallet. Though, I recently started looking towards Exodus as I saw some youtuber uses it and I really liked the interface and features. I mostly have bitcoins, but that circular portfolio indicator in Exodus looks too enticing, so may be it will encourage me to get some altcoins as well. :)
What you guys thinking about Exodus? Is it better than Blockchain.info? Worth moving?

The advantage of Blockchain.info is that it is accessible from any device anywhere. The disadvantage is that a web-interface has a higher security risk compared to software installed on a device.

I have been using Exodus since 2017 without issue.

The interface is indeed brilliant, its easy to use and you can trade inside
the app from currency to currency.

Security wise its ok, there are regular updates, by regular I mean
every week. You can create your private seeds and password and you
can also export your private keys.

I have read that the coding used is not open source so the company
have control of that but you have control of your funds.

The security of any app or wallet is really at the mercy of how you treat
security on your computer. I know by first hand experience of a friend
who used exodus with google chrome. They stupidly downloaded a cracked
program from the web which had ransomware installed.
My friend didnt pay the ransom and formatted the HD thinking they could
restore the wallets.
When the exodus wallet was restored the 2.3BTC 33litecoin and 7.4dash
had been transferred to different wallets by the hackers!

Whether it was a google chrome related issue or an Exodus one we dont
know but Since that episode we all use hardware wallets now.

I personally still use Exodus for some alt coins.

I've never used exodus myself, not because its bad but because I'm already satisfied with the current wallets I use. But yeahh if you compare it to blockchain.com, it's definitely better when its comes to security and features but a bit less convenient. Just keep your desktop clean/practice good wallet habits (https://bitcoin.org/en/secure-your-wallet)

Exodus vs other desktop wallets would be a diff story tho. and they don't seem to support segwit? do they?

Yes its better than blockchain.info, but you can still use blockchain.info wallet. For example, you can download blockchain wallet for your phone, since exous don't have mobile app for now, in case if you are far away from your pc. Also, exodus have some altcoin too. Just make sure to always backup the seeds, same as blockchain.

I think no, but they said if that in their high priorities list (https://twitter.com/exodus_io/status/956371284191006720?lang=en).

Never used exodus but I'm using blockchain.com/info's wallet since then. I have no issues with it but I understand one factor and risk that it is associated with.

What I do is I don't store large amount on blockchain.com's wallet.

Blockchain.info wallet had been serving me well since 2007 without any issue, their android mobile wallet is a top notch which I had started using recently which I believed is more secured unlike web based wallet however I haven't tried this exodus wallet yet but judging from the other users reviews I think I Will tried and use that wallet.

Is that a typo?

Blockchain.info AFAIK started around 2011.

wallets like Exodus are only good if you are planning on storing altcoins alongside your bitcoin all in one place. otherwise there are many bitcoin wallets that are much better than it and have been around for a much longer time so they are more tested and less risky.
just remember not to fall for any youtube advertisement to get hyped up and become an altcoin bag holder because someone was promising you riches.

I don't think it will make much of difference.

If you are using just bitcoin, download Electrum from electrum.org

If you have lot of altcoins, than Exodus would be better of course

If you have high amounts, I definitely recommend a hardware wallet such as Trezor or ledger nano. They are not expensive and you will be much safer and wouldn't have to worry about security anymore. Buy fr official retailer only.

I didn't use anything other than blockchain.info. For me it is the most convenient and familiar wallet. I always spend time at the computer and I do not particularly important mobile wallets. Therefore, blockchain.info remains the most convenient and good option for me.

i've always been suspicious of multi-coin wallets. by their nature (developer resources spread thin across lots of different crypto wallets), they are less secure. i much prefer to stick with a strongly audited wallet that does one thing well---like bitcoin core.

as odolvlobo pointed out, interacting with blockchain.info is less secure since it uses a web-interface. exodus is probably a better choice overall, but there are much better options.

Obviously, I have never used Exodus and I do not think there is a big difference between them. What I do not understand is that if you are not using Bitcoins that you keep for day-to-day business or trading, why do not you send it to the hardware wallet? So withdraw requried amount for getting altcoins or spending it for your expenses, the rest will remain safely ín the hardware wallet.  ???

You cannot choose from just a few benefits, because of all the benefits that you think are good. The most important thing is a security, you have to look for security that is guaranteed.
