People Can Now Buy Movie Tickets Using Bitcoin In Brazil
Buying movie tickets in Brazil just got a whole lot easier through Bitcoin payment systems established by Cine Multi.

Brazil initially showed signs of interest in Bitcoin and the blockchain technology last in 2017 when Brazilian Hotel Chain Vert Hotéis started accepting Bitcoins as payment for their services. This was then followed by Brazil's usage of the Ethereum blockchain to keep track and monitor the political expression of Brazilian citizens.

I wonder how many people actually use something like this. Sure, a business can accept Bitcoin, but is there any people who use it, with its relatively slow confirmation time (unless it uses LN). It seems like the majority of people only buy or use Bitcoin for trading/investment though, not sure how this cinema will 'convince' people to use Bitcoin here.

Nevertheless, it's a good sign that more business provider accepts and recognize Bitcoin as a means of payment. Hopefully, people will start to use Bitcoin regularly too.

i guess this does not work that way  .  you should get your items after you scan and pay  , its not your job to wait for the confirmation because the reciever can always recieve thier coins asap  . anyway congrats to brazil because they are now open to new ideas like this   .  by the way , buying movie tickets is not new   . some country can even buy a plain ticket and other harder obtainable  item using cryptos  .

I really doubt it. Is it really worth doing a doublespend only to save a few hundred Indian Rupees? That's next level cheapskating right there. I assume Cine Multi would just let people in regardless if the transaction was confirmed immediately or not.

I'm not referring to double spending, but the booking time between fiat and BTC users let's say if they take the same seat.

Cinemas are oldschool and I think they will become an obsolete business model after a few years,just like the "rent-a-CD" shops.It would be great if Netflix and Hulu accept bitcoin.This would be a real breaktrough for bitcoin.

I've to disagree. While those things can still remain widespread, nothing beats the feeling of plopping down, holding a bag of chips/ popcorn/ snacks/ food while watching 24fps on a huge screen.

Oh. Not sure about that. It depends on the cinema I guess? Most cinemas in the Philippines don't have seat bookings. You pretty much seat wherever you want. Not sure if it's the same in Brazil or not.

For users who're wondering how is this (btc payment) possible, I'm pretty sure that it will be handled by payment processors than Peer-2-Peer payments.
Establishments nowadays accept Paypal, Paymaya or any "Mobile cash";
and marketing "We Accept Bitcoin" by using such services (Like coins.ph/bitpay) is reasonable enough given that they almost have the same function or protocol with fiat payment processors.

P2P can be accepted too without confirmations on Over-the-Counter purchases of cinema tickets, why?
There's always a CCTV camera on places like Malls and if anyone tried to stupidly double-spend a <$10-20 amount, there will always be a hard evidence. -Just an example.

Like what nc mentioned, you can't just simply walk in and choose whatever seats you want. Whether it's over-the-counter or online, seats are determined prior to payment. Even in my country, it's the same as everywhere else.

Just a couple of weeks ago actually LOL, for a local movie. And no, not every single SM and Robinson's Cinemas give you the choice to pick your seats. 3rd world country problems I guess?


You simply pay for the ticket, then you're good. You pretty much seat anywhere you want. They just inform you if the number of bought tickets is already greater than the number of seats available. And this is for probably like 75%+ of the cinema's here nationwide by the way.

Not the first one to do it but still a great news, proving that even the price went down drastically, the adoption from people and businesses are still not going to stop. But like other companies and businesses that already have done it before, I wonder how long they can put this payment method, because most that we have seen from before already stopped accepting Bitcoin payments because of volatility. Another thing is, I wonder how many people are willing to use their Bitcoins to pay for a services or product, etc. because if there are none, this adoption will be useless. A lot of people surely don't want to use their cryptocurrencies to pay for something, because they only want earn profit from it.

That's really interesting, and Brazil has recently come up with the plans of refilling train, bus and other transportation cards with bitcoin. Brazil seems to be progressive with the usage of bitcoin and its usage on Marketplaces too keeps on counting. Movie tickets were much commonly used by public and such a service accepting bitcoin will let more people know about cryptocurrencies.

Well, another step for mass adoption? Or its just another way to spread the word about Bitcoin. Lets face the fact that only a few people around the world knows Bitcoin or cryptocurrency in general. Less hassle on buying of ticket you can buy it through online and you don't need any real money. the choices of the viewers gets more option how they reserve and buy ticket. This is actually a very good news not only for Brazilians but also for the Bitcoin community. Countries who are exploring Bitcoin if they are going to adopt it as payment system can now have positive basis whether to embrace it. Adoption is quiet increasing nowadays as people are looking for a much better solution to centralized payment system tha seems to be wiped out in the next generation.

Ok so I research a bit about Cine Multi and the good news is its a real cinema and not a movie streaming app like Netflix or Hulu which means local businesses like this are actually starting to take advantage of the payment system, with them partnering up with a local crypto payment company this is a good sign that Brazil might start to see local businesses accept Bitcoin in their country, and to start it off we might see their competition in the industry to follow their footsteps depending what part of their revenue comes from BTC payments.

That is one of the successes and advancements of bitcoin or crypto, and I see that there are many other countries that have received bitcoin and can even be used as a method of selling or buying transactions and many other systems.
I am among those who like to watch movies in theaters and if there is a method of buying or ordering tickets using bitcoin, it will make it easier for me and I hope in my country as soon as possible to imitate other countries because in my country legalize bitcoin.

Wow, that's great, this is the first time I read something like this, after airport taxis and hotel, this proves that Bitcoin can be used in anything, maybe one day, we will all have cinemas all over the world using Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, I'd like to be able to pay cryptocurrency here in our country when watching movies.

Buying/sellling stuffs , making payments with bitcoin and all this stuff is good but is it efficient ?
I am not against bitcoin or anything, in fact, I love it but the fact that bitcoin isn't efficient for making micro payments at peak hours is enough for me to say that we need an alternative currency or method that will enable us to make hassle free micro payments in a short duration. BTC can surely be used for larger transactions and this will benefit everybody but micro payments isn't a thing for bitcoin right now at least until the lightning network is established worldwide.

Its normal as i have read some thread here that even candy can be purchased using bitcoin now(but its foolishness since the fee is much higher than the candy price)and that KFC is accepting bitcoin in some part of the world

Brazil is big American country and this is one good move from this region so more countries on North America will do same way and may help the faster growth of bitcoin togethr with other cryptos sooner

There are middle operators like bitpay and so on, you send transaction to automatically generated adress and then get instant confirmation if transaction has normal fee. Or another choise is owning their account, bitcoins on their wallet too and buying tickets with one click, automatically converting bitcoin into usd.

At past. when confirmation fee not be a problem, i think some services like bitpay already process transaction even still on unconfirmation status.Maybe if something like that can implemented in all merchant, it will be good and i agree with you, it is not a problem anymore.

We all know it is possible. They won't implement it if it will cause problem. Before they made that they think of what will be the possible problem when people will book their tickets and I know it has a solution with that. Also, not all cinemas have a seat booking, here in the Philippines , once you buy ticket and enter the cinema, you can seat whenever you want.

Lately i was reading an article that bitcoin can be usefull for daily activities such as for vacation purposse and currently Brazil has been makes crypto users more easy because they were allowed people to pay ticket to watching movies use bitcoin but people have to come early before the movies begin because bitcoin sometimes took time to reach at least 1 confirmation however after this i think possibly soon people will able to buy popcorn use bitcoin

Brazil has always been open towards Bitcoin and I hope other countries could emulate them.  At least if Netflix could allow users to pay their subscription in Bitcoin that will be a huge breakthrough for Bitcoin cause of Netflix popularity. But as it's said; one step at a time cause all this are all huge impact.

Yeah, this was actually the issue i have been thinking about. The confirmation time and the fee. People will have to buy the tickets ahead so that they get enough time for confirming the transaction on the network. The more bigger issue is the transaction fee. We have seen the transaction fee reach to such level that making small transaction was actually not worth the fee you would be paying. But I guess, they found a better alternative way for now.

Honestly, I don't want to spend my bitcoin into this kind of small transactions, because fiat money is still more convenient and I'm willing to spend my fiat money into this kind of things than using my precious bitcoin. Bitcoin is more important than fiat money right now, because of its valuable price.

Yeah , it is we dont need to travel outside just to scout for a ticketing booth but the only downside is that payment using bitcoin is slow or not instant .  you may need to advance buying tickets so that you wont be delayed with your flight  .

The ability to purchase movie tickets with ease in Brazil is good thing. It's exciting going to a movie house and instead of purchasing movie tickets with fiat money, the most advanced means of payment which is Bitcoin is used. Maybe those who use Bitcoins to buy movie tickets or other tangible items are either they have a lot of Bitcoins with them or they don't trade. Others are having a hard time how to gain or earn Bitcoins while they are spending it to watch a movie. Maybe its not directly Bitcoin, just like the exchange site in our country coins.ph where you have the option to store your money there and convert anytime and you can use to scan and pay for items or services.

I'm glad to see that every day we discover new option to use Bitcoin.

More and more merchants will accept Btc as a payment option,  specifically when network lightning will be fully operational.

I don't think this is the time people would be wasting BTC to buy tickets. BTC is in oversold territory so it could be a major mistake like the man who paid a few BTC for two pizzas.

BTC as payment can take a place when the price is above 20k and if you invested it bellow so you have a huge profit or when BTC volatility stabilizes - some years from now definitely not today.

Yeah, mostly people are using bitcoin for payment instrument, also me, but very urgency i used it. Otherwise you are right, we all the time want to save bitcoin in our wallets for profit wise, but i think we should use it in different ways, like in Brazil, people are using bitcoin for buying movie tickets, it give us change.   

It depends not only on the value but also when you hoard your stack. If you are in the profits already and want to spend it a convenient way will be more appreciated.  I like these services getting added to give people a choice.

That is good that Brazil are already accepted bitcoin, so that their people are become more interesting to invest and its easier for them when they use. Besides for that its easily to pay for the tickets especially on online payments.

That's a good sign that bitcoin adoption is doing well and I hope that other countries will going to follow soon. Here in my country, some local companies are also planning to use bitcoin or some cryptocurrencies as one of the mode payments but it will depend on the numbers of people that already virtual coins and willing to pay by means of virtual coins. Buying movie tickets through bitcoin will more convenience than going to cinema and queue in long lines with moviegoers for ticket booth.

It is very cool.  With each such step, we are getting closer and closer to cryptocurrency, and it is closer to implementation.  I am sure that in 10 years the use of cryptocurrency will not surprise us.
