bitcoin is being used in so many places throughout the world but it can be so much more. It's obvious that there are so many freelancers in every country. Firms, companies, startups etc.. have a limitation that they can hire freelancers only from their country since they can pay them only in their native currency to avoid hassle of exchange. But if firms, companies, startups etc.. start using bitcoin as a payment method to hire freelancers then there will be so many opportunities for the freelancers since they can get work from anywhere in the world. I don't know why has  this not become a huge thing until now. This could really change the life of freelancers and give a better end result/product to the company they are working for.

It's just mostly one of these reasons:

1. They(one of both parties) simply dislike the volatile nature of bitcoin
2. Because most of the countries can use PayPal anyway
3. They aren't willing to learn about new tech that they probably think is unnecessary

I'm pretty sure freelancers can demand BTC anyway if they're allowed to(unless they're using freelance sites like Fiverr).

i'd say the reason is only number 1 and nothing else.
otherwise bitcoin is offering a lot to have that incentive for anyone including freelance workers to start accepting it. for example one good thing would be the multi signature features that bitcoin has, a freelancer can ask for the payment up front but into a multi sig wallet and the payer can only sign the final transaction when the work was done.

I don't think this is going to change anything in anyway. The freelancers were paid before crypto currencies were made without any issue. There is paypal and tons of other moneybooker and even dedicated freelancing platforms that take care of users payments. Though I never used anyof those and just heard about them, but  yeah, thats true. Bitcoin does make it a lot easier. But what about cashing out to fiat? Wouldn't that be problem for many?

About cashing out, it would be either both things which it can be easy or hard depending on where that earner/freelancer do live on.This is one of the factors that they are considering
but i agree on the things said above that one of the main reason is the volatileness of BTC itself why most freelancers do still prefer the traditional stuff.

That's actually a good idea. Not sure why I haven't thought of that before. LOL. In this case, it could also fall under point #3. For them to use this multi-sig type of system, they'd have to actually spend some time on learning something new, and they'd need to invest some money for development, not knowing if people would actually use it in the first place.

With that said though, sites like XBTFreelancer should have this feature, if they haven't yet.

This hasn't yet become popular among freelancers but it will certainly become soon. Just as bitcoin is gradually being introduced into everyday life (shops, cafes, restaurants, etc.), it will also enter this sphere soon.

Imagine you need a new logo for $20 but you don't have any crypto. What will you do - just pay $20 with your CC for 1 second and forget about it at Fiverr or deposit fiat, convert, create wallet, transfer, etc?

There is still mass adoption required to deal in Cryptocurrency in freelancing world. I saw initiatives by many icos like bitjob and they are struggling. It can be more valuable if the big names in the freelancing world like upwork and Fiverr start accepting Cryptocurrency.

There are still less than 10% of the people in the world are using bitcoin or crypto, we haven't have the considerable population that we can consider the crypto to have been adopted. Freelancers who even knew bitcoin exist are still skeptical about it, take my brother in law who works as a web developer, I gave him 3 ETH to start with but yep, he just keep it hope he won't lose access to the wallet. People are not open to new things like a gibberish alphanumeric wallet address.

It will be a good idea if bitcoin value is not so volatile like we see in the last years! I think this is one of the main reasons that freelancers are not get paid using cryptocurrencies, but in the other way, freelancers can get paid using PayPal or bank accounts as the majority of countries are able to transfer funds with these methods.

Maybe in the future, when the financial world will be more developed, cryptocurrencies will dominate and then automatically they will grow in the value.

Yes we have this website and other related crypto related freelancing website but I think xbtfreelancer is currently not accepting new registrants. Likewise, other freelancers aren't prepared for the swinging prices of bitcoin so they don't like to take the gamble to receive a very volatile thing though there's a chance it can move up afterwards. They aren't just ready for it so not every freelancer is well oriented about bitcoin. And other's preferred to use PayPal and other popular payment processor because it has been there for years.

I am very sure we will get to this level sooner or later. This can only happen when the problem of cryptocurrency volatility has been solved.
For now its more easier to pay freelancers in their native currency anywhere in the world. This I think is the major reason why many firms are not adopting it especially bitcoin. I believe very soon the volatility problems will be settled after then top companies and firms will adopt cryptocurrency payment option. What OP is telling is true, but for the all country should legalize the bitcoin and cryptocurrency then only the restricted country users  can use bitcoin, if not the idea will fail.

Firms can use paypal as mentioned and can use SEPA bank transfers
to send FIAT.

We are still in the early stages of bitcoin usage, it can get better but
unfortunately it would take regulation so firms can avail of tax breaks.

why do you think this is related to Bitcoin? There are other ways to pay. The existence of the internet is an advantage for humanity and sufficient to work. Although there were no Bitcoin related projects, other opportunities over the internet were always available.

Upwork is hiring from different countries but they are paying in dollars. A lot of freelancers are now working at home but it is also a good option, paying bitcoin for freelancers who wants to work at home and it also makes the additional job so it makes more opportunity for everyone to have additional jobs because of bitcoin. It can help a lot and also some newly opened business can be profited at the same time.

I'd say the main reason was that those companies that hire freelancers hate the fact that Bitcoin's volatility is high. It changes from time to time and that it could affect the payment. The transaction is not the problem, it is actually convenient. It's just the volatility.

As we know, until now bitcoin is still constrained by various matters, especially those coming from the government because of its value which is considered too volatile.  Until now, we all cannot break this assumption because this's very real. In fact it's unfortunate if the government can only assume that something volatile's a mistake, and should the government can help improve what's lacking or other errors that exist in bitcoin because until now its existence gives more meaning to the lives of the wider community.

It is still difficult to use bitcoin to pay employee because the bitcoin price is volatile. But the company can use Dollar rate and then adjust it in bitcoin so the employee can receive their payment in bitcoin. Let say the freelancers offer $100 for his service but the company wants to pay in bitcoin. Then it will not be a problem for the company if they convert $100 into bitcoin and with the rate now, the freelancer can get almost 0.02xx btc.

By the way, if you check on the micro websites, you can find so many freelancers in that site, you can see that bitcoin was already accepted for the payment method.

this is indeed very interesting in cryptocurrency many people get jobs and also become frelance. I myself also felt a very positive thing about the existence of a cryptocurrency because I could get a job

it is happening and people are freelancing with bitcoin, but you can't expect it to become big and widespread while bitcoin itself is not yet mass adopted. so until then it will remain small but it will exist.
even if you look around on bitcointalk's different boards you can see a lot of people are already freelancing here and getting paid to do it with bitcoin.

Bitcoin is created to open up all the possibilities of trade world wide without any hindrance and to be away from the tight grips of the government and the bankers who are manipulating the financial system and we know what happened and what caused the last global financial meltdown, so bitcoin can be used in much wider scope than some conceive it to be and i am certain we will eventually see that happen.

Why is paying in bitcoin a problem ? If bitcoin is being used as payments then why do we need to convert it to fiat at all. We can just keep using the bitcoins online for payments.
Besides that paypal will then only allow a handful currencies while bitcoin being accepted as a globally accepted currency will eliminate this hassle.

I think this is a wonderful idea, and no one has used this idea before. Most platforms provide freelancers using fiat or paypal, and this is a new revolution that is worth trying on other platforms

We've got so many sources like fiverr, freelancer, and so many other services letting us earn. Here the risk is high, very few wish to stick to it as we get work at some time period and by other time we won't be having any earning.

First thing is there are tiers of freelancing level, so you have to confirm in which category you belong. Because many individuals with expertise, price or rate of work may vary from person to person. Also have to consider the capability of a freelancer, whether he is comfortable with crypto or not.

I dont see the problem if people accepting bitcoin as payment. Bitcoin can traded in many exchanger and any one can convert it to fiat money. Many people and firm dont know about bitcoin and if they understand about bitcoin, i think they prefer using bitcoin because saving cost and not using third party like banks

I know Fiverr did at one stage allow Bitcoin payment for freelance work, but when the scaling debate was at it's all time high, Fiverr stopped accepting Bitcoin as a payment option. <It might have been about the high transaction fees>  ???

I hired several graphic designers for Banners for a project that I had back then and I paid them all with bitcoins. They did excellent work and I got a good return for my money on those projects.  ;D

I guess the problem is that companies (1) are not really aware what bitcoin is that's why they're not offering it a means of payment, or (2) they know it, but freelancers doesn't want to accept bitcoin because of it's volatility.

I remember when I used to work at odesk, me and the company I work decided to go to pay using paypal back then. They offered me this option maybe they don't want to pay the percentage to odesk or something, but I don't know that reason. So it's possible that it can be setup, bitcoin as means of payment, that is if both parties agreed.

I have been a freelancer for a long time and I am pretty good with my own work. In my opinion, the world has to open francers and communities so that freelancers can develop and advance their work and the businesses they create.

If only if the government would look for such opportunity and not just full of negative assumptions as it always happen. Authorities are greatly tied up for big companies as their big sources  of money, taxes unlike of crypto. We can only receive their supports if we all agreed of being taxed as mandated with them. I'll remain optimistic but rarely any freelancers outside of this forum accept bitcoin.  It is a hassle for them to convert over to fiat and they will also lose an additional percentage from trading on an exchange.

I think for some freelancer they don't have problem's when they work is payed by any currency, they just do/search a really trusted company that can pay them for the work they do. The problem's is just for a company itself, they don't need take a risk too much to use bitcoin as a system of payment of wages. The volatility might can be made as one of the reason, although I see there is advantage for some company that use bitcoin as their payment system.

For instance, they will pay 0.01 for freelancer per week and the company budget for one freelancer is $100 per week, then in the current bitcoin price the company can benefit because with $100 can get 0.02 BTC so the quota should be $100 only for one person they can give it to 2 freelancers. That is the advantage side for company, however, because the price of bitcoin is very volatile, it can rise at any time, it can overwhelm them, with $ 100 they may not be able to buy bitcoin with the amount of 0.01.

a "country" doesn't have to accept bitcoin for freelancers to accept it as payment. bitcoin is a decentralized peer to peer currency that should work just like that. and whenever anybody gets paid in bitcoin they can always convert it back to their local currency no matter where in the world they live in.

in fact it will be more profitable to live in a country with restrictive bitcoin related laws because in those countries price of bitcoin is going to be a lot higher. so you get paid $100 in bitcoin for example but sell it for $150 and make 50% profit just because price of it is higher in  your country!

yes, that is a great opportunity but there is a catch, in 3rd word countries . A few BD guys work for me but they cant take payment in BTC or use BTC as their government banned BTC and All crypto, and there is no available Crypto Card they they can use there - we should take steps to tackle such situations and bypass such issues so that we can help them atleast use crypto cards.

The problem is legislation issues in few countries and still we derive the value of BTC from fiat so I guess developer like to take fiat in preference instead pf taking BTC then taking hassle to convert it into fiat.

I think one of the most obvious reason why they are still on doubt on btc to use in international payments is it is not fully legal in many countries the legality is one of the issues that has not been resolve over the past years when it comes to cryto currency, most companies who hires freelancers will not use btc right now but I believe once regulators decided on the legality of this digital money they will surely shift from traditional payments to digital payment systems.

The problem is not the legality. It's legal in most of the countries. The problem is that it's not clear how to calculate the taxes (for employer and employee) and it can be an extra hassle to convert fiat into BTC / BTC into fiat, since both ends of the deal have no experience and don't know what tools / exchanges / shops use for this.
But I expect that also this mean of payment will gain more ground, slowly, especially after the downtrend on the markets stops.

There were projects for freelancers actually. They are not just used much though, crypto isn't accessible for the wider audience that freelancers who only have paypal and are working on upwork only desire USD. Projects like ethlance and bitjob would have been good also if they are allowing paypal users to use the platform.

Yes, one of the true goals of blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies at large is to facilitate seamless transfer of funds. Did anyone do fee comparisons? I don't know sites like PayPal or others but I assume they take some kind of fee. And I assume that for a period of 10 years you would be better off with bitcoin fees. (If you wouldn't be losing your mind after 24h of waiting)

This really opens up opportunities for freelancers since most people want something more than a standard job can offer. But the variability of Bitcoin prices serves as a deterrent to paying in Bitcoins. However, some platforms are trying to implement something similar.

Actually, if you know that there are many companies or individuals who hire freelancers, then they will pay for using crypto. In my country there is also a site for associations of freelancers who offer their services and then pay with bitcoin.

You, as a company, could pay people overseas without all the exchange fees and process. Just like sending a payment by remittance but easier. Freelancing has been trending worldwide already and Bitcoin is only another way of payment for the freelancers. Freelance job has been so easy for me to do since the inception of cryptocurrency, and most of the companies now are very glad to pay in cryptocurrencies also.

This is why blockchain can't be push aside , it has all it takes to tale over from normal fiat currency as a decentralized currency and no border barrier money which has the most unique way of sending thru to the receiver in some minute and without a govt interfere or bank charges .

Fiverr do pays in other currencies however it is all the expertise potential who always gains demands and the dedicated professional will always have a chance to gain orders from clients and our skill is more enough to get the payment done by any means we demand because the quality in service highly matters in the real world.

This is a good way to use crypto but the problem you describe is not that big of a deal in the world scale.
Europe doe snot need it, they mostly use Euro and they dont have problems with other currencies.
USA, Russia and other big players are fine with USD so there is not that much of a need to use crypto in this case.

It's really a good option to add bitcoin and other cryptocurrency as a payment method for freelancer who especially targets to work with international companies. I know a lot of freelancers are still doubting and skeptic about crypto but it can really bring convenience to them. But there are also crypto users who also works and accept bitcoin as a payment. It would be good if freelancers are open to learn crypto, though it's still a matter of choice if they would consider it. But hopefully, they'll try to study and learn about it.

BTC is quite volatile and this means that in most cases the freelancer gets less than what was initially quoted and agreed on. Also in most countries, it is difficult to change BTC back to fiat if not illegal, remember countries like India are said to be crafting laws that will make trading in crypto punishable by death. Its also sad that such countries where the use of crypto is not encouraged by the establishment are homes to the biggest numbers of freelancers.

For now I do not think BTC is the answer to the Gig Economy until maybe a more stable crytocurrency is introduced.

I think this freelance depends on the expertise that is owned and as much as possible to be able to have special expertise or can do everything that can be done online, one of which is editing the logo, making websites and others, if you have a lot of expertise then you can use it because lots of opportunities to be able to get money in the world of freelance.

We need to compete with them, but if we have a high-skills on one field, I think they will search for us to help them. That happened with my friend who has a high-skills in web design and security, and he always gets a client who wants to use his skills to design a new website or maintain the site.

I agree. Both party have to agree on the way of payment they have to used. Paypal is used for long because it holds different currency wherever in the country but have fix value unlike in bitcoin, though transaction might lower than other, the price is volatile. It is good way to use in transferring the salary because more safe and faster. Maybe it could be more convenient when freelancers employers adapt this way.

When I was still new in the online world, I wasn't so interested as in some freelance job, it normally requires a verified paypal to receive the payment and needs to open a bank account to have your money in your bank account, this method is quite complicated compared to just making an online wallet or even an exchange wallet where you can make even without a KYC, hopefully this kind of improvement will happen in the future.

One could receive orders for freelance work from all over the world without worrying that you don't get your salary due to a problem with using Internet services, banks, and etc. Bitcoin transaction takes a negligible part of the time and also with a minimum fee. The problem is the regulations made by government. Almost all of countries want to collect tax from their citizens, there are still many countries that still prohibit the use of bitcoin. One of microtasking platform called fiverr is cooperating with coinbase to help bitcoiners to buy the service. Meh. The top freelancing websites don't support Bitcoin at all (Most prefer Paypal, yuck!). And for a freelancer to get hired fast, he must go to sites with most jobs posted and sadly the Bitcoin-related ones have poor listings.

I don't know what the problem is, actually. Fiverr or Upwork can integrate a third party that can convert the dollar wage to BTC for the freelancer.

I just want there to be a freelancing website where people of all skills can be part of it. Even people with hardly any skills should have at least a few jobs for low pay. As you work more and more you will unlock more tasks and all will be paid in crypto. From easy pdf-text jobs or data captcha to full on auditing or transcription or even programming and marketing. All skills and all stages. There have been many attempts but none that has worked. It would be wonderful if we all had a place to find work no matter what walk of life we are on.

That has really been the challenge that I have been having with most freelance sites that I have wanted to join from some jobs that I feel i can do, I mean the genuine freelance sites because we have some fake freelance that do request for money for you to join.

The issue that I have with PayPal in my country is that we are kind of restricted a little because we cannot accept money but we can send and since I can accept money, there is no way that I will be able to get my pay out. We have some though that I can get amazon gift card, but selling the card too is not an easy task. This bitcoin payment would have just been the main solution to this challenge and I hope that these freelance sites will consider us and start paying in bitcoin so we can join.

i feel you bro's  . i  also came to that problem because i also wanted to work online or oftenly termed as freenlancer but the guy above is right that most sites dont have btc payment yet and like you i do also have a bad experience with paypal  . paypal block my account for no reason during the verifying process which cost me some bucks that i dont get  anymore . they sucks so much  .   and you guys are right that the number of platforms that pays btc for freelancers are still small and often have a limited job   . those jobs are also tough to do  for common freelancers that have a minimal skill .

I see many people have various skills in each field, and they search for the jobs that match what they want so they can start to work and finish the job at the right time.

actually it has long been done. many companies try to attract freelancers to pay with bitcoin or altcoin. for example, you can see how various crypto companies attract freelancers with bounties, or jobs paid using bitcoin, or other cryptocurrencies. that's all they do to hire freelancers from all over the world to promote what they make. it's just that, for real-world work, I still very rarely see that.

Bitcoin is very volatile, so if a client purchases a bitcoin at $10k then it suddenly dumps for let's say $9.5k then he would need to pay his freelancer a bigger amount of bitcoin. This will cost him greater amount of money in the long run. And also not all country have an access to purchase a bitcoin. In terms of salary I would still prefer if it's in a fiat value. Both parties will suffer if they choose bitcoin as payment.

Those freelance sites are just becoming rampant now as bitcoin is getting more popular and this is one of the problem that we use to have before, receiving payment form some of these sites, but with bitcoin now, I think it is a lot easier and the good thing about receiving those payments in bitcoin is that we could use it as an investment also, you earn it and then leave it in the bitcoin wallet till bitcoin reaches its all-time high, so it is more like getting double profit, you get profit from the freelance job and at the same time also, you get profit from the increase of bitcoin when it goes on bull run.

I had involved with hype investment projects and most of them had the bitcoin payment option. But In freelancer websites, I haven't seen any other payment option except Bank, Payoneer, and PayPal! Bitcoin is too volatile currency, that is the main negative thing of bitcoin. Bitcoin has millions of supporters but it has millions of fudders too, and the reason for the hate is Volatile! I am a freelancer. I usually get a lot of work on many freelance websites and most of the payments done through cryptocurrencies. This is a great thing when so many people know about Crypto and use it as a currency. My transactions with some friends from other countries all use Crypto as payment, and that proves that Crypto can be used instead of cash.

For me bitcoin is just a currency don't treat just like something that is out of the world, In terms of freelancing industry the paypal is just fine as a medium of payment in our freelancer. Bitcoin will be fine also but the problem is there's no dispute 1 click means you lose your funds. That's true one example is Fiverr there are so many gigs that are related to Cryptocurrency, and yet they are not supporting Cryptocurrency as their payment processor, Fiverr management is not very wise in disabling Bitcoin in the past, in fact they should be wary that Paypal, they accept has a dispute option compare to Bitcoin which do not have such feature.

I agree, freelancers could benefit massively from accepting BTC payments. I think that we will come to that someday, only the progression is slow. Many are already looking for Bitcoin-paying freelance jobs, although there is probably also a lack of clients who are willing to pay in crypto.

The only problem here is that people think that crypto or lets say bitcoin is too much volatile and it's very risky for them as those freelancers tend to earn their bread and butter online from the freelancing websites and when the amount that they are earning is varying depending upon the market then they will face problems financially and also in supporting their families.

I have a very similar view, the market is there but it's not all that huge. Most of crypto developers already know a thing or two about programming, they don't need many workers and usually, freelancers are still looking for fiats rather than cryptocurrency.
There is also a question of taxation during exchange, it's an additional game stopper. Some minor swing have already had happen, all the freelancing in this crypto-era resembles evolution, gradual progress instead of revolution and I think that's quite OK.
I said that the crypto-freelancers market isn't huge, in fact I think it is actually tiny. There are a lot of people willing to do some work for crypto but the amount of employers is still very small. I'm offering cheap websites creation service but so far, I got only one customer... it won't change any time soon. There's just not enough demand.
