Title: I have 2 "Moonlander 2"s, a generic USB Wifi dongle and a Raspberry Zero. Help?
Post by: BudtheWise on February 19, 2019, 05:52:07 AM
I know, I know, the Raspberry Pi 0 is not the Raspberry Pi 3 that I have seen multiple threads for but as I already have a Raspberry Pi 0 just sitting there and as I already have a generic USB Wifi Dongle already, I was wondering if this would work.

Is there anyone that could help me.  I have tried using the Moonlander 2 and although it did work, it worked sorta half-arse and I would rather have a dedicated device to run it instead of seeing the constant errors with Windows 10 trying to figure out what the card is every time (often fails to figure out what it is, but not always...go figures).  When the Moonlander cards does work and I have seen both work at the same time, I just would like to tweak with the setting a bit more and even knowing I do understand some "BASIC", I'm not an expert by any means.

Is there an FAQ for this setup in 'English".  I loathe using Windows with the card and the idea of adding a small solar panel and a Battery Backup may work better and I was rather curious as this is more of a project for me and not a source to gain money or anything of that sort.

Any tips or a detailed set of instructions would be nice and as I was "A+ Certified" a decade ago and as I am a tax preparer in Oregon (oddly, Oregon is the only state that requires detailed classes and a statewide test to prepare taxes), I would be glad to return the favor by answering any questions that you or the reader may have.

With that, I give you my thanks.

I asked mods to move this to alt coin section.

The rasp pi 0 is old.

I see you banging your head hard on a wall.

WiFi sucks in many cases.

So you may have a perfect setup and simply have WiFi interferences.

Can you make it work with an ETH cable just to test?

yeah - lot of variables there. Old Pi, potential wifi/linux issues with wifi, potential moonlander hub issues. As Phil said, get the moonlanders hashing when connected to a network cable first, then get the pi working on wifi, then put them together. The original Pi's were pretty finicky about wifi dongles, so that alone could take you some time to troubleshoot. That is why the newer Pis are so popular, as the onboard wifi is pretty solid.
