Title: Welcome "Hardware wallets" Child Board
Post by: hugeblack on February 19, 2019, 09:12:52 PM
Did anyone notice this change? This child board has been added recently, and there have been some changes.

What do you think of adding a section dedicated to the lightning network?

I did notice when I checked my Watchlist and saw a wave of 10 posts about Ledger/Trezor being moved. :p

About the Lightning Network, I don’t think there is enough demand/posts about the subject to create a board just for that.

"Alternative Clients" has also been renamed to "Wallet software". I think the addition of the new board is a good idea - hardware wallets are becoming more widespread, with developments such as new models, mobile apps, bluetooth, etc, and there seem to be new companies popping up quite regularly in addition to the gold-standard Ledger and Trezor. It did seem that the majority of the threads under "Alternative Clients" were about hardware wallets, so a new board makes sense.

Not sure LN needs its own board yet - it's just not yet widespread enough.

Good to see that. Ledger and Trezor already sold millions of hardware wallets, so it's something more than "alternative clients". Hardware wallets are getting more and more popular - people started to care more about security of their crypto assets. And oeleo is right - now there are much more than just two wallets in this market - Ledger and Trezor have multiple models and there are quite many new players in this market. So I think such child board is really needed.
About lightning network - I'm not sure is it enough demand to make child board for it. But in future - why not?

Yep pretty much this. The demographic interested and are actually using anything related to LN is a very small minority right now, compared to hardware wallets whereas the people actually using and owning hardware wallets are a significant amount. Months from now though as LN wallets and adoption gets better, I'm pretty sure we're going to need a LN board. Just not right now.

Thanks for the heads up.  A new board to watch.

It never occurred to me, but yeah, the new structure make more sense.  I would imagine light desktop wallets are now far more widely used than core.  And having a specific board for hardware wallets is long overdue.  As more and more people who are not technically savvy enter the crypto fold I image hardware wallets will continue to gain in popularity.  I recommend them to all my friends and family regardless of their technical capabilities.

I just notice the changes of this name from alternative clients to Wallet software and I notice a new hardware wallet inside.

Wallets right now is in categorize so we can easily find those child boards.

Why they don't move the "Web Wallets" to Wallet software and change the name to "online and desktop wallet" as new wallet so that all wallets are categorize?

I made 3 new reviews and I'm translating into English them. I'll be adding these reviews soon.

This is the Turkish versions of them

Thanks for posting this. I had to log in as JetAid to see the boards. I had the alternatives on ignore, and this meant all the child boards were ignored as well.

With regards to Lightening, I believe that this is an important development for Bitcoin adoption, and having its own board would improve and speed up adoption. When Bitcoin Talk started there probably wasn't enough adoption of Bitcoin to warrant its own forum, but the forum helped it to become established - lets do this for Lightening as well. If we don't do it, someone else will.

"Hardware wallets" are very important really and they come up numerous times all over the forum, so a board specifically for them is rather a good +,and it'll encourage more specific discussions about the purpose, how to purchase one etc, and also it's importance which is very essential to know as its all about security which should be treated with utmost seriousness
