We felt that Maki is a currency for the people and not for the few individuals with the greatest network hashing power, what this causes is a few miners to have too much control over one currency.
We know this can also occur with Scrypt but not to the same degree.

That's normal, it just means someone else got the same block a fraction of a second before you and your block won't confirm. You'll see it alot when you do enough of these launches, don't be worried. If you're lucky and just keep it mining, eventually some blocks will stick :)

We feel at this stage , starting over would do more harm then good as many people have invested time into mining this coin. We know it's not a ideal situation but I can assure you we don't

I'd support adding MAKI to an exchange too. Without it, this crypto is dead in the water.

I have spoken to the rest of the team about this and we will come to a compromise. We only want Maki listed on one reputable exchange so we can keep
all the buyers and sellers on one exchange for now while the liquidity is low.

99% of the alt coins have dropped in price by over 50% in the last 2 weeks because they scattered all over the place, there is just too many alt coins for btc to support and to maintain value 1 exchange is all we want.

We are thinking Mintpal might be a good option for us , it has a great interface and decent volumes. Please let us know your thoughts on this.

Please bare in mind the one thing we are trying to avoid is the Maki price being determined by the lack of btc in the marketplace.

I am really loving the way your team is thinking. I have lost money on a few alts and they always seem to go down in price once listed on cryptsy or multiple exchanges, then everyone follows the price of the lowest exchange and value decreases, buyers don't know where to buy and won't buy on exchanges when it cheaper on another, but cheaper exchanges might not be trustworthy and you have vicious cycle.
I had btc and alts on coinmarket.io which was scam exchange, openex and coinex both got hacked and shutting down. So please please please make sure your exchange is good.
Avoid coins-e too.

Cryptsy won't list you now unless you bribe.
CoinedUp is a place where coins go to die
bter might be ok option.
Cryptorush.in too many coins listed but they seem like exchange you can trust. No API for coinwarz and coinmarketcap so that might be ok for you?
poloniex they have been hacked 12 btc but exchange owner repaying stolen btc and updates a lot. It also has trollbox and not bad volume but all coins on there are down 100% and more, but
that is everywhere
btc-e would be great but little hope of getting on that exchange.
bittrex too low volume - seem reliable
swisscex too low volume  - seem realiable
allcrypt too low volume - seem ok

Cryptorush.in has approached us as they want to add Maki to there exchange for a small bounty.

Obviously our plan was to only be listed on one exchange to keep buyers and sellers together on one exchange where there is lots of volume.

I would like to hear the communities thoughts on CryptoRush.in, if we decide to go with them then we can get added straight away, I know qumatru must be jumping with joy
right now. ;)

A Warning , I have seen every alt coin recently tumble in price, if we go with cryptorush.in then we stick with just this exchange until we get added to Mintpal, this does mean
we can take more time getting onto Mintpal.

You seem to have answered the question yourself. I think for compromise get the coin added to cryptorush, miners like qumatru want to dump out straight away and you will have non miners
that will want to buy. At least Maki will have a exchange to call home while you get onto a bigger exchange.

Wait for MintPal, it will create big impression when you get added. Cryptorush.in has a lot of coins and Maki won't even get noticed. imo

It's been like 36 hrs and Maki has over 300 votes and passed plenty coins that has been on the voting for over a month. This will give you time to implement KGW.

It will take 20 days and we will be in top 20 if they keep adding coins 1 every day and Maki around 3000 votes.

The other thing you can do is IPO Maki for bitcoin vote on MintPal, this shows you not a scam coin and people won't mind giving up btc in exchange for Maki which they can sell
on exchange later.

Maybe rate of 0.00003000 for each Maki? Not sure what good rate would be!? I will put btc in for vote for 2000 Maki , just decide on rate!

We have 2 main purposes for the premine.

1. Get onto Mintpal
2. Building Maki's own equivalent of bitpay which is already underway.

The system we have in place will allow users to purchase Maki with USD instead of using bitcoins, so this is essentially the announcement we would like to make.

We have just submitted a request to be added to swisscex, now that they there API sorted out for coinwarz and coinmarketcap we feel it's a great exchange to start with for the next couple months.

Like we said before, only one exchange that has decent security and we also don't want the coins price to be influenced by other exchange prices as we see with so many other coins.

Keep everything to one place.

The next exchange we can aim for is Mintpal at a later stage.

I think you will discover that Swisscex, as nice an exchange that it is, simply doesn't have the level of traffic and volume to help sustain a good price for Maki. Buy orders will be low in volume and will eventually erode the the price. Even well known popular coins have low buy orders on there.

We were thinking of Poloniex or CryptoRush but they both seem to have had hacking/exploit issues in the past.

CryptoRush - No. There are a lot of problems there, right now.
Poloniex - Yes. (It was hacked but they told whole history and they will refund every single satoshi from transaction fee.).

Mintpal - A lot of traders.
Bittrex - They will add maki fast.
Swisscex.

Mintpal is my fovourite, it's fast, seems secure and has a good volume of traffic.
Swisscex is a great exchange, it is also fast, very easy to use, however needs more traffic.
Cryptsy of course has the most traffic but terrible customer support and slow, but it has the volume.

Thanks for the responses so far, the number 1 priority for us is security, we don't want our users to suffer from a hacked exchange although it something we have no control of.

Although I haven't had a problem with Poloniex, I would never trust too many of my coins in any exchange, no matter who they are.

I think Swisscex and Poloniex would be a good move for Maki with a long term goal of Mintpal and Crypsty.

Poloniex is head and shoulders above ALL other exchanges, far and away the most professional and so honest it makes you want to cry.

They have had problems with being hacked, but they were open, honest and everybody got their money back - Busoni commands a lot of respect from the community.

Even today, Busoni is dipping into his own pocket to reimburse users BTC that were lost in yesterday's Faircoin fuck up for which he bears no responsibilty.

That's because we didn't leave. I am gonna be very honest about this and want to lower expectations. Our goals are the same, but it will take time. We don't have the funds or resources to do everything on a short notice. At the same time we realize that those things are necessary to make a big coin. We will keep working on this coin and it will take time, but I can understand you don't have the time to wait for that.

So even if you stopped mining, please keep your coins.

But what are you actually doing to try to take this coin forward.

Are you trying to recruit miners? Without miners no exchange will touch this coin.

Are you approaching anyone in the food and beverage industry to try to get them to accept MAKI? Try to drum up some interest. I would guess that everyone who has mined this coin would contribute to a bounty fund to be offered to a restaurant or bar to accept MAKI. Just for publicity and to show you mean business.

Approach a start up restaurant in your locale. Offer them 10000 MAKI as a bounty to begin accepting MAKI. Of course they won't be inundated with customers desperate to pay with your coin but it will create at least a little buzz won't it. Get them to put a sign in the window saying 'MAKI accepted here'. Post a pic on here and there will be plenty of miners who will throw at least a little of their hash rate at your coin I'm sure.

Quite frankly if you're not willing to do this (or something similar) then your coin is dead anyway. If you do this I will begin mining again and will contribute 500 MAKI to the bounty fund.

Which one is the right fork?

I spent some time on this tonight checking it out.

Sancrypto.info and maki.hardcoreminers.com are both correct. Both Allcrypt and Swaphole exchanges are also on this correct fork.

vkter.com and Triplehexxx.net pools are incorrect. I tried to message them through their pool form about it.

I'm both soloing and putting some hash through Hardcoreminers right now to spread it a bit. I'm intentionally not running too much hash right now. With KGW, I don't see the point to drive up difficulty too far at this time.

Yes.. that´s what i was thinking and its a good think cause my wallet is on the correct fork... i mined some coins when MAKI was launched at coins4everyone and recently rediscovered this thread.

I begun solomining  with a mighty hashrate of 20KH/s .... but I'm getting some coins once in a while.

It´s nice to see this coin is refusing to die, let me know if I can help in any way.

Yes, there some things you could do that would help.

-Run the MakiCoin client. Leave it on.
-Throw that 20KHs of hash at it, either soloing or through the hardcoreminers pool.
-Get over to Allcrypt or Swaphole and buy/sell some Maki (preferably buy) to signal that the market is alive.
-We also need to find the Linux and Mac wallets (or recompile).

I'd like to see some basic services come online soon: Paper wallet, Dice game, faucet, etc.  I'll throw 10000 MKI at either as a bounty for any of the services. If anyone can up the ante, that would help.

I've been using your pool. It's fast, works great, and nice charts. I highly recommend hardcoreminers. They've stuck by Maki.

Re the OP:  I hope the dev shows up again soon. The coin has realized a lot of positive momentum and good news the past week.

But meanwhile, the community may need to start it's own discussion thread and create and maintain an updated OP.

While I'm new to the world of crypto coin code, I'm willing to have a pop at these upgrades if nobody else is game for it ? I've been programming 30 years in the games industry, so I'm not some n00b hacker, but it is a fairly alien world in this code.. I'll start having a look at the changes required.. Might need some help on this, but it's something I've been wanting to make myself learn for sometime now :) And learning new things is always the key to fantastic adventures :)

I updated the OP today and removed some outdated and incorrect info.  Added back the picture, and a link to the Windows wallet (Mac & Linux wallets are missing, need to be recompiled).

The dev has moved on. I contacted him, and he messaged me the info for his account, which I will hold in trust until a new dev steps forward. He's keeping his small pre-mine, but it's being diluted every day.  I am not the dev.

So here you go! If you always wanted to be a coin dev, but didn't want the hassle of going through a stressful launch where nobody is ever happy, and if you'd like to step into a situation where the infrastructure already exists (pool, explorer, community, and two great exchanges that are already trading coins), then welcome to Makicoin!  Kick off your crypto career by moving Makicoin forward! I'm still putting some hash at this coin, and last I checked network hashrate was around 3mhz. Blockchain seems to be in good shape, and there are nodes to connect to on the network.

Show your good will by recompiling the wallets for lin/win/mac with checkpoint, update openssl for heartbleed, and look into the timewarp concerns mentioned here earlier. Do that, and all this can be yours!

I have a heavy heart today. I am stepping down from MAKI.

If a Dev wants to step forward by the end of July 2014, I will gladly turn the project over to him or her.

The reason should be obvious.  There is not enough community participation or mining interest. The concept never got off the ground.  I am the 2nd dev; the first dev stepped away about 2 weeks into it. I tried to make a go of it, but was unable.

I thank everyone who contributed to this project, especially AllCrypt and Swaphole who took a chance on Maki. Thanks also to SanCrypto for the Explorer service.

On July 31 I will pull my nodes and stop mining.  Anyone is free to step forward and continue the project, but I wanted to try to bring some closure with this announcement. I hate it when the dev just vanishes leaving everyone to wonder what happened, and so I will try not to do that.  I intend to inform the exchanges and tell them they can stop, rather to keep imposing the cost of providing those services on them and leave them holding the bag.

Please remove your coins from Allcrypt and Swaphole before July 31, or there may be no miners to process your transaction.

If someone wishes to step forward take over, please do so now. Thanks for the fun, and I wish you all well.

Removing Maki since even the dev quit it. All remaining balances will be deleted on 11/3/2014. But since we have not received a new block in over 83 hours, withdrawals are unlikely.
