Title: Tails electrum dilemma
Post by: liams88 on February 23, 2019, 11:39:45 AM
Okay so when trying to send bitcoin from my electrum wallet on tails, I recieved an error message stating I needed to upgrade to V 4.0.0, luckily I googled it and realised it was a phishing scam.

However, I cancel out and still the transaction doesn't go through.

How do i send money out of this wallet now? Do i need to update electrum? How can you even go about updating electrum on tails OS?

(p.s - also, is my laptop and wallet/bitcoins safe? I never followed any links or downloaded anything but its stressful knowing that a phishing scam can appear on my screen when trying to send bitcoin)

Thanks!

You can manually choose Electrum server so you can broadcast your transaction. There are few website which provide such list such as https://uasf.saltylemon.org/electrum (https://uasf.saltylemon.org/electrum) and https://1209k.com/bitcoin-eye/ele.php (https://1209k.com/bitcoin-eye/ele.php)

I don't remember which Electrum version used by your Tails, but if it still using version 2.x.x, you should upgrade since AFAIK Electrum 2.x.x have problem connecting to newer Electrum server.

Do you have any backup copy seed or private keys or wallet.dat?
If you have then you can start updating your electrum but don't use the popup window just go directly to http://electrum.org/ and use the command there to install or update your electrum from Tails OS.

How can you even go about updating electrum on tails OS?

Tails OS is a well-known secured OS based on what I heard it is a Linux based OS which is made for security purposes. So updating electrum is fine the only problem about electrum is that some server is infected and sending you a phishing link by showing up to update your electrum.

Your laptop and wallet is safe just make sure that the electrum wallet you download is directly from correct http://electrum.org/ website.
Don't forget to backup your private keys and wallet.dat and seeds before you going to update.
