Title: Hhampuz Ban Appeal
Post by: Hhampuz_BanAppeal on February 24, 2019, 05:11:36 PM
So, I got a 7 day ban for "PM Ad Spam". Firstly I'd like to know what that means. I do, as I imagine others do too, send a few messages to services/gambling sites offering my service as a Campaign Manager and asking them if they'd like to give it a go here at the forum. I never send mass pm's or CC in anyone else, I always add a personal touch to my messages even though the message as a whole may seem similar and I NEVER send more than 1 message to any of them without getting a reply.

I believe that over the last year I've probably sent 50-60 messages in this nature where I've asked them if they'd be interested. I can't recall (although I'm not allowed to check my outbox due to this ban) ever sending more than 4-5 messages on any given day of this nature.

Due to having a shitty week where I got some devastating news I don't mind spending a week off but I'd just like to know more than anything how this happens and what I can do to avoid it in the future. Am I never allowed to send a message such as this where I offer my service?

My profile: Hhampuz (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=881377)

This is going to hurt a lot of forum members who are in your signature campaigns. I have no idea why we are seeing the bans more than before. I have seen another legendary account (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5113751.0) with 10k+ posts got banned for 30 days and it was today.

Is there any changes in the banning system?

@Hhampuz, I hope this gets resolved very soon. And I also hope it will not hurt the running campaigns you have on the forum.

You're sending unsolicited messages advertising your service to people. That counts as PM ad spam in my opinion.

This is going to hurt a lot of forum members who are in your signature campaigns.

He can still make payments and do post counting while banned. He would just be unable to post the payment transaction on the thread.

I'd say you broke this rule:
Forum rules
29. Sending unsolicited PMs, including but not limited to advertising and flood, is not allowed.

If any of your active campaigns require any attention, feel free to email me ([myusername]alenzuela@gmail.com) a signed message and a link where to post it.

That's all I wanted to know. Then I won't do that anymore and I'll accept the ban, just never knew it is all. Thank you DarkStar_.

Big derp on my end then I guess. Although there are probably arguments that can be made for these not being advertising messages but I do get it, thank you LoyceV, appreciate you clearing it up and offering your help.

No worries on any of my campaigns. Post counts/Payments will be sent out as per usual and I'll just have someone post the txID in the threads for me over the next 7 days.

No problem. Hope you enjoy your week off and feel free to message me on Discord if you need anything posted on your behalf.

Much appreciated, and will do! I'd give out some merits in this thread if I could but the ban won't allow me, losing my mind.. lol.

Unless there is an indication they want a PM, such as in a post saying they are looking for certain services, this is not allowed, and is sending an unsolicited advertising PM.

Hhampuz, relax & pay your campaign participants when required. Don’t do anything stupid, 7 days will go very wuickly & you’ll be back active.

Don’t panic.

I can see why someone may have reported that type of PM, if I wasn't in the market for services I would find it irritating.  I see you as an upstanding person and I don't think this mistake is in any way a blemish on your character.  In fact, the way you've acknowledged your error and assumed accountability is a testament to your character.  Sorry for trouble, and we'll see you in a week.

No worries on any of my campaigns. Post counts/Payments will be sent out as per usual and I'll just have someone post the txID in the threads for me over the next 7 days.

Feel free to add me to the list of contacts who'll post on your behalf; <myusername>@gmail.com.  Please add a signed message to confirm you're you.

We all know that yo're not PM spammer, but it's true that your break forum rules. Some people may be annoyed to get such messages, especially if they aren't looking for campaign management services. But still, even if it's just one week ban, I think it's too harsh penalty. Maybe giving a warning before banning you would be better solution.
As I know you can appeal only when you're banned permanently. You have to wait 7 days until your ban will be lifted, it's not a longbreak. Take a short break, get rest and come back stronger :)

Sorry to hear that, I hope that what you are talking about is not a worst case scenario of someone close to you.
I don't see anything in the modlog or bpib regarding your temporary ban. Do temporary bans appear in the modlog at all? I see your signature was also not removed, was your ban revoked or can users who get temp bans still keep their signature?

Edit: Just saw LoyceV's reply in a different thread that modlog doesn't show temporary bans!

Sad to see that you got ban, however relax a week its not too long. Perhaps you had sent a typical message to them (IMO) and someone from them report to moderators. Or as LoyceV explained about rules. Also sending typical message to multiple user will consider as a spam.

He got one week vacation now and much needed for him because he is managing 6 or 7 signature campaigns which is too much stress thing to be honest, next time double check before sending PM to anyone.

Enjoy your vacation fella. :D

IIRC temporarily banned users still can use their signature. Only perma-banned users sig will be disabled.

I saw the rose with the name Zepher on your avatar, so I'd like to give you my thoughts at this difficult time that you have been passing. I hope you find the support you need to overcome it, whether it's friends, family or religion.

I think this break might be good for you.

About the ban, I think it would be necessary to have a bigger discussion if the offer of these services by PM, when related to the forum, and direct to commercial profiles, is something negative for the community.

I do not think so. It is very clear that @Hampuz has worked hard to find these customers he is helping to promote. It must be the manager who is managing the most campaigns that pay with BTC. And it was the person who managed to rescue some traditional campaigns that were being poorly managed. Spam is an abuse, not every service advertisement that uses PM should be considered spam.

In case some of the people here don't know who Zepher (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=369879) is? He was a reputed and a very trustworthy member of the Bitcointalk and mostly Collectibles (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=217.0) section of the forum. Also you could see more members honoring him by changing there avatar. You could see his trust feedbacks to know how trusted he was!

I would like to take this time to honour Zepher (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=369879) here and express my gratitude, even through I don't know him personally, but rather respect his work here. Its always a loss in loosing such members of the community. Rest in peace Zepher (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=369879).

Sorry for off-topic but it was just to let know most of the new members here who zepher was.

Sorry if I'm going to go off topic here, but what Discord channel? Does Bitcointalk have a unofficial/official Discord channel? If so, is everyone allowed to join? I would love to join.

I have no idea if Darkstar_ is there or not but recently squatz1 created the discord channel. You can find all information in below post.

Now going back to topic:
How "PM Ad Spam"' ban take place? Does somebody reported the PM's sent  or moderator take notice on their own if you are sending too much PM's. ?

I'm not sure mods look into pms, I think that would be something theymos would have to do. I might be wrong.

It's likely that some of the companies he messaged clicked the report to admin button on the message they received.

There's a "Report To Admin" link under each PM. I like to think Admin has better things to do than reading random PMs so that he can ban users.

;D wow just breathe a sigh of relief after reading the post body. When I saw the post headline "Hhampuz Ban Appeal"  I taught It was the regular bad appeal I see almost on daily basis on meta board that users get ban permanently. Thank goodness it's just a 7days ban now you just have to stop sending Bulk PM's to prevent further bans also try to avoid commiting bad evasion with this current account. You're a valid asset and it'll be sad if we lose you. This might be a great opportunity to take some time off Bitcointalk and interact with the real world.

IKR, he's lucky to escape with a 7D ban. The forum's gonna be up in arms if the duration turned out to be much longer or worse, a ban.

Stay stronk!
