Title: Scammers now in telegram
Post by: Coin-Desk on February 25, 2019, 01:01:48 PM
I have seen some new frauds recently on the telegram. They chose telegram as the medium for scamming. They stay in some active groups and find the target. They also once targeted me. They gave me the various link by personal message. And after clicking on the link the link told me to create an account. And if I want to do create an account they will want the wallet's private key. So I think they are a Very terrible scammer. We should be safe from them. Otherwise, we will lose all our cryptocurrency. They send me so many messages that I stopped using telegram for them. Besides, there are many scam bots in the telegram. Those bots never give payment. So I think it's not safe to earn in the telegram. It is best to use it as a communication medium.

It is very common to see scammers on telegram. They just try with selected people's picking from the cryptocurrency associated groups in the forum. From that they'll try to scam them with addictive schemes giving good return on investment. From the selected list even if one becomes a prey he gets the earning for the day.

Telegram is the most used app for cryto-communication. Scammers are taking advantage of it. Besides, it is easy to make a bot in telegram. Better not register in shady links to stay out of scammers.

Regardless of the communication platform there are scammer, telegram, discord, Facebook, Twitter, Bitcointalk. It doesn't matter.

Exactly, the platform isn't important at all and you can't say that one or the other is more populated with scamers. They just use all available methods and communication chanels looking for naive users. It's important that you are careful and that you don't buy their stories about quick and easy profit or miracle tools and methods for predicting price or successful trading.  Use your brain and you will be safe.

Tbh there are many scammers in telegram since old time. There are always more than 1 scammers in 1 group, most of them are scammer by impersonate the admin of the group and pm the member ask for money or trying to help you but in the end he/she will scam you. The thing is just block whenever someone you don't know pm you and act like a friend.

Telegram has been plagued with scams for many years. It's regular use as a medium of communication for ICOs and cryptocurrency projects makes it very popular among scammers.
Telegram has devised means of reducing possible scams. Limiting sending of private message until an account matures. And putting a report scam option whenever someone strange contacts you.

yes telegram is now a lot of scammers, because now there are so many people who are in telegrams to hunt coins and tokens. most telegrams are used for airdrop events. and we all know that the majority of airdrops only end in scam.

Scammers in Telegram isn't new at all. They've been there for a while already. One of Telegram's advantages is you only need a mobile number to use it as far as I know, no need to use your real name and such, so you can pretty much create as much accounts as you want as long as you have access to mobile numbers. But with this advantage, also comes disadvantages; and this is one of the disadvantages.

There is no safe thing if you are connected to the internet most of the time, that is why there are physical wallets that are let you stored digital currency offline, same goes to some of the social media applications that you are using on your laptop, desktop and mobile devices, And if you did experience such things you can always report it here in the Scam Accusation so other users will be aware of that kind of modus and giving a warning to anyone especially the newbies,

But if it's the only cryptocurrency related you can sure set an example for people to be aware, we should help each other to simply not stop but to lessen the victims of a scammer and fraudulent acts.

Where the money is the people with bad intentions will follow. I have joined several TG channels from ICOs already that every time I will just ask one question several accounts will pm claiming that they are part of the ICO team and will show me various ways of screwing me up hoping that I don't know of.  We must be aware right now that cryptocurrencies is an attractive commodity to criminals as unlike regular cash it doesn't leave as much footprint behind for the authorities to keep track of and the plus side is it digitally exist that they don't even need to leave a building to steal all our money. Let us just be smart and let us not fall from this kinds of simple tricks, the smarter we get the less interested they will be on targeting us.

Ignore and block them. This is nothing new. Always suspect a pm from an unknown contact, especially it if shows a link. It is the same thing scammers have been doing for decades over email, it has simply gone to where people has gone: instant messages, and various "social" media.

You have to be mindful of people pretending to be "official support". PMs are big no-no. On IRC i used to block all PMs and only lift the block ocasionally on select requests because of that reason. IRC is older than HTTP...

Internet is full of scammers and phishers, you have to learn to live with that and not fall for their stupid baits.

Scammers are all over the world not only in the internet, safety precautions are always needed when transacting to new people and platform of any social media.

I want to share that I was never been scammed ever since I started to transact cryptocurrency to different kinds of exchanges or individual because I check first the reliability and good reviews from other people before doing payment or any other kind of things were money is involve. Money is money, even the most trusted one will flip sometimes when greed kicks in.

Yes, Telegram is probably the most used Social by scammers. They targeted me more than once. But you can simply block and report a user who is sending you private messages. It's easy and he won't be able to contact you anymore.

They are everywhere, in telegram they pretend to be the admin of an ICO project and then send you and address to pay for they offer 30% bonus as if you don't know anything about scamming. I actually tried to make them believe I will send lol I tried asking about the project and he replied that its an ethereum project when its actually an EOS Volentix, not so very clever scammer.

IF someone PMed you in telegram pretending to be part of the project, beWARE that is just it and if they ask you to send coins, it would be it.

Not just recently. They are common in Telegram world for quiet a long time now and just popping everywhere.

With the used of our common sense, people can avoid any scam. Being a newbie isn't a reason why other people fall on trap. There are lots of newbies who able to avoid that scheme because of common sense.

ISo I think it's not safe to earn in the telegram. It is best to use it as a communication medium.

Telegram is a messaging platform. Only used it on it's purpose and not on other way around.

The company itself can't deal properly on these kind of schemes so always be cautious on what you will encounter here.

Just be vigilant then.. Especially those who are acting like an admins of the projects... They will ask you like they know everything to do.. Thats why if you are into project update only on main telegram group first bfore conducting a transactions outside with them... Always ask the group if they know that person... And mostly dnt give any amount they are asking... Coz probably in buying a project u need to purchase on main website... Jusy be careful with whom you are talking to...

I have encountered the same problem as you on the telegram. After I joined the discussion on an ICO group I received a message from the is the scammer. They asked me about investment projects I just discussed and gave me an address and said they would give me a higher bonus with other investors through it. Investors should be careful because the team will not contact you first.

these types of attacks are not new! they have existed for as long as the internet existed. the basics of all of them depends on lack of knowledge of the people they target since it relies on them clicking on something, downloading something malicious,... and also sometimes willingly handing over their secret information, bank accounts, social security number, and bitcoin private keys,...

The scammers are more active in telegram group that have been abandon by the group admin as a result of fail project or the admin contract with the project have ended. Admins of active projects should be sensitive enough to detect and delete scammers.

Scammers are everywhere and Telegram is the scammers playground. You can find every type of scammer in telegram  ;D
It's sometimes fun to use telegram just because you get the chance to mess with scammers. LOL, I really find it amusing to mess with scammers and get them to the point where they give up trying to scam you.
Don't do this if you are not sure if the person is a scammer or not. I am getting pro at this which is why I can find it out quickly if the other person is trying to scam you or not.

There are scammers everywhere you should be the one to avoid them.
In telegram, you dont need to reply on the PM they sent to you especially if they are claiming admin of one group.
Admin will never PM u first as the number one rule in telegram. If you will click the given link then it is your fault then.

Absolutely right. Using telegram should always be wary of scammers and do not get caught up in their game. It is better to give up "unique opportunity" for earnings than to regret lost money or hacked account.

It is not new. Telegram has been the den of scammer for long time. but in as much as you are not gullible, you will never get scam. Many ICO groups are full of scammers. Some will even pretend to be Admin to the group by bearing the same name and profile picture as the original admin just to scam people. clicking on links that is pm to you is very dangerous. especially by the people you do not know. most of time, when I receive such message, I will delete it and mark the sender as spammers. That is the only way to prevent from being scammed

You find those scammers in most social media telegram inclusive their main targets are newbies and unsuspecting members they think they can easily get some vital information from especially private keys, the bottom line is to avoid giving out any relevantl information and desist from joining any suspicious telegram group.

That is some nasty foolish thing to do.  ;D
A private key? Really?  ;D
But I do think they might really victim some newbies with this method. And maybe some idiots too.  ;D

It is an old song in telegram. It happens mostly in those groups which have a lot of members. They will really mess up the group pasting links that aint supposed to be there.
Thanks for sharing though.

Scammers have been plaguing Telegram from day 1. Most popular scam was posting their own ETH addresses at the second that an ICO starts. And they always got people's ethereums, too.
It shouldn't be too hard not to give away your private key or send money to strangers, but it happens every day.

The problem is not only in telegram, scam is everywhere even here on bitcointalk. The only thing that helps us is that Bitcointalk is moderated and scammers can be identified and tagged before they can do more damage. You have to be very vigilant when it comes to your own money and private keys.

Scammers works on every side of cryptomarket, so if you are just working without due diligence you will fall on the trap. Protecting our keys must be the first priority because that’s where our money is placed. Scammers can also get your precious information through the links, so don’t trust any links.

There are some scammy bots that claims to pay users by just playing which is untrue because you need to invest money before you can claim worst case is that you can't claim it at all. There are also fake projects and fake people that impersonates some known people just to scam people. The best thing we can do is to investigate before riding in into something we thought is beneficial which is not.

Since the existence of various ICO projects, telegram has become one of the communication media of these projects and even the ICO project has provided telegram campaign services. So it's no wonder there are so many fraudsters organized on telegrams. I agree that telegram is better used only for communication than used for various paid campaigns.

Its Telegram101 if you don't know the person just ignore the message. Telegram is a communications app, should be used only for that for now.

My friend lost most of his crypto but it was only his fault, you need to be careful these days.

I also have some telegram users sending some message,
Asking for help and giving some trading site where their money is on hold ,
Asking me to create an account their then he would send me his money to withdraw it,
Luckily I know how to check the wallet he told me to sent him the ETH wallet from the trading site,
Then after a few seconds my balance in the trading site have 17 ETH,
But when I was about to withdraw the site ask for a deposit before you could withdraw,
Then I check the ETH address from ethplorer.io it shows that the wallet doesn't have 17 ETH the site was just a scam.

I agree, we should investigate a project before joining it. But it there any, I don't know, trustworthy list of scams which you can trust? I mean, which sources would you guys trust?

Well investigating the project should eliminate scammers, that is the whole point of that, right?

Thats why i never entertain Personal Messages on Telegram unless i know the person, but even if still I don’t open links provided by others as i know most hackers use links to get inside your systems

But what OPs telling us is the group itself and not the telegram campaigns ,the other members contacted them ,and i had some experiences like this but never entertained even a singke one
