My personal and initial reaction the news was positive, but I don't think we'll see an uptick until these regulated exchanges are up and running. I expect we will still see some lower prices over the next few weeks, with the trend reversal happening about 21-28 days from now. No concrete idea of the bottom, but I think it'll be around 500 USD. Companies can submit "applications" despite there being no application process, requirements, or standards and they will be bound by rules which haven't even been written yet but may be written sometime around the end of the 2nd quarter. In related news I am sure your local car dealership would be glad to sell you a car which doesn't exist yet with features and price to be determined next year. Regulations are a small price to pay to be among the first legal exchanges in NYC. And these guys have been playing the regulation game for years, it comes with the territory.

It would certainly make a lot of people feel that the exchange is more "professional" than an exchange without a government permit. Bitcoin is the red-headed step child... Seeing as money is speech and everything, and inhibiting people from spending money how they choose to is a 1st amendment violation, doesn't the whole cryptocurrency regulation issue run into a wall of unconstitutionality? Oh no, that's right, only for corporations. Which are people. That have more rights than all the other people? The logic of the whole thing is a little confusing...
