Title: My Drive C is getting low on disk space
Post by: forexhercules on February 26, 2019, 08:01:00 PM
200 GBS is what i created fro drive C and i though it is enough. It is getting eaten by blockchain files.

How can i move the blockchain of (Let's speak about verge or digibyte or raven) from C to another folder on any partition?
Every time i delete the folder it goes back again. can someone tell me how to do this without reinstalling windows

Just copy the blockchains to another drive (lets call it the D drive) as follows :

Create a folder on your D drive named verge and put your verge-qt.exe file in  --> D:\verge
Create a folder on your D drive named vergedata and put your verge blockchain in --> D:\vergedata

Create a shortcut from your verge-qt.exe file in D:\verge directly to your desktop by rightclicking on it and select "copy to desktop" (create a shortcut)
Edit your shortcut by rightclicking on it and pressing properties. You need to add your vergedata directory into your target path --> D:\verge\verge-qt.exe -datadir=D:\vergedata

You can do the same with the other blockchains (with seperate folders ofc). There are blockchains that sync faster when they are installed on a SSD drive, something to take into consideration.

Note : this methode works for Bitcoin and Bitcoin forks, and i assume it will also work for alternative blockchains like Verge, Digibye and Raven.
Basicly it lets you bypass the default installation directory path that comes with the qt.exe

Just back up your wallet in Drive C. Then Install CCleaner in your device. Open that CCleaner and click Analisys after their all your software checked. Click Run Cleaner it will clear any trash in your device

There's a solution that works for basically all wallets.
First of all you have to find the folder where the big data is. It should be (you need to "show hidden files and folders") in c:\users\your_user\appdata\roaming or c:\users\your_user\appdata\local under a folder with the name of the coin.
Let's say it's c:\users\your_user\appdata\local\somecoin.
You create a folder on d:\ for such data, like d:\chaindata and move c:\users\your_user\appdata\local\somecoin there (so you'll have d:\chaindata\somecoin)

The last step is to make a symlink so the software thinks you still have the data in the old place.
Here the syntax is in command prompt (which you'll start as administrator)
Code:
mklink /D "c:\users\your_user\appdata\local\somecoin" "d:\chaindata\somecoin"

There are so many software on the internet that you can use to solve problem with your drive C. You just need to use google to search then you'll get tons of software can be used to expand your Drive C without reinstall your window or buy one more HDD or SSD.

Third party software can move big programs from one disk to another. You can test with other programs before using it for what you are looking for.

You could increase de space destinate to the Driver you use for the blockchain. Check this tutorial (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=srPogBf8hTE) I think moving the blockchain will be a lot of time-consuming and could occur many errors.

This is easy, all you need do is make sure you get an appropriate backup of all the blockchain file in your PC and store them in a separate drive especially the files you know you won't be needing in a long while then keep the once you need in your current drive. The best is for you to actually get an external hard drive of larger size and send the blockchain files there, then use your drive C for smaller files.

buy an external hard drive, then back up all your data to an external hard drive. then you can reinstall your PC, and when it is installed, you can copy the data from the external hard drive to the PC that has been reinstalled. I did that and so far it's safe to be safe.

Ledger nano type wallet ? Maybe that would help, I mean even if it doesn't cover all of the coins at least some of them would be covered by it, that way you can get a bit of breathing room for your C driver.

Aside from that the clearest choice is to get an external drives like that western digital products, those have like 4 terabytes or something to put into it and you can use it not only for your blockchains but also for storing movies and games and so forth as well.

Those two are clearly the most logical solutions for now and I think the external drive should be the first choice to go with, I know they are not cheap but for what they are providing you with I think they are well priced, maybe you could sell some of those coins the blockchains that holds space and you can both get the external drive and also delete the blockchains for coins you sold to clear some space as well.

Try moving the application that is not the blockchain file to partition D, for example an application that is only a complement, try installing it on partition D, do not partition C, then try scanning with microsoft essential or with ccleaner and see if partition C you will have free space the greater one.

But rather than moving your files to another drive, since it was partition, I believe you should have enough space on other available files, why not just delete some partitions not being used and add the space to the 200gb you created for block chain in order to expand the space.

I think this is a lot easier considering the stress and the time required to moving a 200GB files. It will take a very long space if I am to explain how you can do this but check on Google or YouTube; you will see one r 2 tutorials that will point you to the right direction of expanding a partition.

This is also good but I think the best is to try and expand partition C by taking space from D using windows partition system or Command to do this. We also have lots of software on the internet like AEMOI partition assistance to perform the task for him. Though the option you gave is valid provided he has other applications he can move other than the Block chain application and considering the time it will take him to do this, I think expanding the partition is lots easier.

I think that they will answer the right answers and comments more effectively than the mining department. I think it would be helpful to move the title to the mining section.

The C 200 GBS drive is quite large does the blockchain consume that much data? I wonder what data you keep.
