Title: Help to Recover Blockchain.info Wallet
Post by: simonhiller on February 26, 2019, 08:39:11 PM
Hello Forum,

Im going through an old PC and have found this file which looks like it has some details about a couple of blockchain.info wallets. The only data I have are a password and something called a payload which looks something like this.

Payload: {"pbkdf2_iterations":5000,"version":3,"payload":"pUq5LOADSOFNUMBERSANDSTUFF/+Wx2zxc96fWx1SAZZa/jflY="}

Ive done a google search and tried to figure out what this payload information means but TBH I dont really understand it. Could I gain access to a blockchain.info wallet with just this payload information and password?

I dont have email address, wallet ID or any other information.

Please advise what I can do.

Where do you find this "payload"?

Anyways, how come you don't have the email address associated with the blockchain.info account? You should have that in the first place since it's an important email. If you lost the password of that email then just follow the Forgot Password option and it will be an easy process since Im sure you have the required credentials there.

On blockchain.info, if you have the password then the only thing to need is the Wallet ID. You can recover the Wallet ID via email. You can found it on Login Help.

I dont have email address, wallet ID or any other information.

So the wallet isn't yours, you just found it and try your luck by accessing it? This is what I get from your story so I'm sorry if you got offended.

Is there any reason why you think it's a blockchain.info wallet? Because it is not possible for you to recover anything (if it's really Blockchain wallet) if you don't have any email, passphrase, etc.

From what I understand it may be somebody else's old PC. Else you would have more info.
However, the short story is: you're out of luck.

The longer story is that there may be a chance to get anything of this with Multibit (possibly Classic). But the file contains encrypted data and you still need the original password to decrypt, even with Multibit. Also Multibit is outdated and buggy. However, here's a similar story: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1744118.0

High possibility is that he just bought a used PC or laptop then find the data somewhere on the hard-disk.
Please advise what I can do.

Forget and leave it, that's all you can do. No chances for you to get an access to the wallet unless you are lucky to find an access to the email connected to the wallet.

This really looks like to be the case.

If the wallet is his, he could easily click forget password and go on.

He just found some random file that looks connected to the wallet and now he wants to get some money from it.

Anyway, I don't think that file is enough.

Maybe some part of the payload or whatever he has is the wallet id, but he needs the password to use it.

Whether it's yours or not, as long as you have the correct details with you then you can possibly recover the private keys of that wallet.

If you only have that payload and password, that's not enough. Unless you own/have the wallet.aes.json file or seed or email address.

You cant do anything and that payload plus password wont really be enough for you to access such blockchain.info wallet. You would need sufficient informations
like email and phrases. If you dont have these informations then there would be no chance to crack that wallet up.So, the story is that this wallet isnt yours and you did just find
this files on a PC or hardware.

Is this data or file format like .json file? looks like old blockchain backup wallet can login directly with wallet from https://login.blockchain.com/wallet/import-wallet, but you still need password.
The only thing that appear in my mind is you must to brute force it, but its almost impossible to brute force it.

If it's a blockchain wallet I'm sure they don't have a .json file when you are creating account in blockchain.

This file with payload inside the file it seems it is not from blockchain maybe he got that file from other altcoin or it is from HTTP injector where mostly use payload to bypass internet.

Yes there is, the file's name is: wallet.aes.json (encrypted) or wallet.json (unencrypted) and if you opened it using any text editor, you'll see that "payload".
In OP's case based on the written contents of the file, it was encrypted thus...

@simonhiller You should know the passphrase in order to recover it.
