Title: Fully working site - finding the next level
Post by: richie12 on March 11, 2014, 08:14:40 PM
We have developed a site for selling media with a novel model of distributing the profit amongst existing fans, http://www.moonsch.com.

It is fully operational and can be used as it stands, but as with everything it needs work. Now that we have got over the hurdle of putting something live, I am interested to find out where to put our efforts to get over the next hurdle. Please take a look and play around and let us know what area below you think needs MOST work.

Feel free to email us at accounts@moonsch.com.

To my best ability, all polite enquiries will be answered.

That's a pretty cool idea. Unfortunately I try as hard as I can to not pay for anything. My buddy who records music also gives everything away so he wouldn't really need this either. It's probably for someone though!

You and me both on trying not to pay for anything! But while the free stuff is great (and I've relied on it hugely on this project for sure), I think at some point for it to be sustainable people need paying for their time.

Thanks for taking the time to have a look, I am much obliged.

Wow this is actually an amazing idea. Did you invent it yourself, or did you see it somewhere else?

I posted it on #bitcoin in IRC, comments:

"that's sort of genius"

"I like that concept, basically crowdsourced marketing :P"

Having to look at your site briefly, and what others failed to mention.

1. Did you setup a reliable CDN - this prevents from ddos attacks even if the website does go live it can shut down anytime resulting a huge hit to your websites goals.

Eg: Amazon, cloudflare, etc.

2. Looking at the video of your explanation of what it does, you need a better visual w. audio. People are going to be too lazy to read, and if they dont get it within several seconds, then they`ll leave.

There is a lot more, but thats just basics to start off with.

@gimmefreeBTC: The idea is my own! It came about when I was in the car with my wife, listening to the radio. I realised that if no-one in the world wrote another song, I wouldn't notice for about a year. I there were no new books, about three years. This came out of that conversation.

@techgeek: Looking at Cloudflare now, thanks for the tip. As for the video, I agree it definitely needs to be snappier. Not sure about sound, I don't really like it when I'm just browsing round and things start coming out of the speakers.

Thanks for the positive vibe.

I went for it with CloudFlare, what a great offer they have! The dns has propogated and it is working so far, so it looks good so far. Thanks for the tip off!

It's a great free CDN.

Seeing all the comments made me curious
This is an interesting idea I can see it working as a neat venue for artists in cryptocurrency and a meeting place to discover new work
Hats off to you

What should we focus on next? I need more options!

I would start making plans on-site seo and off-site seo. (This is a lot harder then it looks - for off site)

I`d look into the detail if the site is attached with a blog, which ranks fastest with google.

Reason why most flash sites fails, is because googles crawlers cant read flash sites etc.

Then figure out whats the business model? How does the site bring in money? eg: Ad revenue, slapping google ads on there? etc

Perhaps Social Media Feeds linking towards the site

Evening all, great comments and food for thought.

@ndonnard - what category do you want me to add? I think I can still add an option for you!

@techgeek - we make money on a small commission on each sale. I don't anticipate a circumstance where we'd have adverts. If the model is popular I'd like for us to be pretty transparent.

@swordsoffreedom - as far as creating a social element, we've catered for people to comment on files that they have bought but that's all. Your idea that the site should also be somewhere for creatives to meet is great and something that needs working out. I'd be happy to use other sites for this aspect, it has been done very well by others already.

I think the site's design needs some work. It's ok, but it should be moar user-friendly.

@GimmeFreeBtc: Can you elaborate on what you are having trouble doing? It'd be great to get a bit more detail!

Just in general, the site seems basic. One thing that's nagging me is that the logo is choppy and low-resolution. I think a great-looking site attracts customers.

Cheers, logo smoothed out now! It looked OK on some resolutions but the transparency was playing up, making things awkward.

Alright if you want a honest feedback then i will say your website is very very poorly done and simple doesn't looks professional try changing the template to something bright or something fun/creative i think that will do  :)

Thanks for the feedback, good stuff. We're calling this the 'alpha' release rather than try to pretend we're finished. We've had some signups and some uploads, check it out! I'm going to spend a bit of time double-checking that the transactions are processing correctly and doing a bit of tidying within the existing design.

Actually I'm using satoshibox, but I'm intrigued by this site aswell. Looks like a nice piece of work. Posting mainly to keep an eye on this.
Keep it up!

Hello again all,

OK, we've done work on the look of the site and made it a bit cleaner, still not where it needs to be, but better I think. Also we've had a few sign-ups, some uploads and even some sales. Things are going slowly, but OK.

In order to propagate this thing around the world I came up with a 'regional referrer' idea. Basically, I can set any user up to receive moonsch's %age of sellers who sign up with, for example, a ".es" email address. In effect you become our national referrer.

So, if you like and understand the overall scheme and think you can promote it to your artistic friends in your region, email:

account@moonsch.com

We can see if it's a fit and if this thing has got legs.

TYPO:

accounts@moonsch.com

You need the 's' after accounts!

Don't most people use free email service (outlook.com, gmail.com, yahoo.com etc)?

.com is a problem. Are we not being generous enough? We could add a country list to the sign-up, but we've got no real way of knowing if anyone's being truthful! I tend to pick the first in the list if it doesn't seem to matter, so end up as an Afghan...

I don't understand why it is not showing for you. I just tried a few of the website performance tools and they show everything as OK, but obviously it is not OK for everyone. Will investigate this evening, thanks for highlighting this.
