Not literally like that but it's possible if you are going to send message directly to those astronauts. The message will go through a satellite and we have to pay with few bitcoin fees through spacebit.live.

Here's the main article: People Are Paying Bitcoin to Send Weird and Wild Messages Into Space (http://www.coindesk.com/people-are-paying-real-bitcoin-to-send-weird-and-wild-messages-into-space)

Further innovations is keep on going. Now this is a great good news for me to know that the Bitcoin now is used to send messages to space. I am hoping more further updates will be given so far.

It's a cool service and all, but this is already done free of charge by encrypted messaging services. Though I rarely use such services and barely have anyone to send some messages just for the lulz, I might try the service and see whether it's worthy of some merits. People come up with crazy ideas everyday, and this is one of them. Perhaps in the event of media blackout, this service would be utilized greatly. At least it's there already.

This is actually very important in a world that are getting more censored by the day. Just remember that Bitcoin can be transferred with a simple text message, so you are not just going to send a message to someone without being censored, you will also be able to send wealth/bitcoins to someone without having to rely on government controlled infrastructure.  ;)

So next time someone tells you that governments will shutdown the Internet and effectively stop Bitcoin transfers, then you can tell them about alternative initiatives like this.  ;)

This will not be an easy task to totally accomplish.
Using bitcoin to send messages will be quite an innovating project so for now let's keep our fingers crossed

Coindesk link in the second sentence of your article? You should post a link to the original article here, not a link to your blog.
Anyway, sending encrypted messages isn't something new.I think it's the core of what cryptography is all about.Programming satelites by a crypto related platform,on the other hand, sounds revolutionary.

if you just want to "send messages" then there is no point in using bitcoin for it! there are literary dozens of methods that can work a lot better than using bitcoin network which is not designed for something like that because bitcoin is a "currency" and its blockchain is meant for processing monetary transactions not a message board for sending nonsense poetry and stuff like that which people have been doing so far!

With your explanation we can say that bitcoin is just use as payment gateway for sending the messages. It is still a good news because if bitcoin is use as payment gateway globally it will lead to fast adoption.

most likely the blockchain will grow. the problem is that the user and creator of the blockchain won't keep quiet when the development is just like that. of course new innovations are needed so that development will grow again

Though I don't have someone to send message in space, it's still a great innovation and would be beneficial for future use. Great thing that it continues to develop and the usage of bitcoin continues to grow as well. As bitcoin continues to show great development and usage, it can also gather more recognition from the people.

I still see this one a more convenient way to talk to the people in the space and those families who really want to have communications witht their love ones. I hope this is not for fun anymore, and a more realistic way i just can’t imagine how bitcoin can be used as messages this project really makes my mind works again, good luck for the developer of this ambitious move.

It isn't a crazy idea but it isn't really that kind of common thing that can see on everyday. This idea is really useful for those families who do have relatives or loved ones who do work in space or simply
an astronaut and other similar jobs as well.Im aware with that service which do have free of charge, I don't know if this recent one would be the same.

So is it a service that is sending messages via bitcoin network or separate service that is sending messages by itself, accepts BTC and taking some fees in cryptocurrencies? At the same time there is not much information in the article about how it works and why should I be sure that my messages will go directly to space and not to project devs.

I am very interested in one fact - how money will be used in space. In general, someone wondered what humanity would face when it needed payment instruments in space. I think that exactly then - Bitcoin will begin to squeeze the other currencies that usualy for us, just for the reason - that its transactions do not require any serious mechanisms.

But these are one more interesting thing. Interestingly, some person will be able to transfer funds over a distance of several light years. I think that at the moment none payment system can provide technology as safe and reliable as blockchain!

I think it's really borderless and I'm sure in the future we can send bitcoin without using the internet as the article says.

It's truly amazing how blockchain technology has transformed our society in the last 5 years or so and there could be a lot of innovations in the future that will take advantage of it.

So I would say that sky is the limit and we do hope that those inventions or innovations will really help our society in general.

I think you're taking the sending to space part a bit too serious. All that's happening is you broadcasting your transaction to a satellite and from there it bounces back to whoever you sent your transaction to.

It allows you to use Bitcoin without needing an internet connection, and that's the main advantage here. It does require you to have a hardware setup, but with time these setups will become more user friendly and cheaper.

I haven't tried it yet, and I probably won't ever have to with how solid the infrastructure is in Europe, but in certain countries this is definitely a useful feature, especially with oppressive regimes censoring everything.

Maybe this Spacebit are planning an invasion to outer space and they're in need of some communcation  ;D

It's reviving the thing of message in a bottle and throwing to the vast ocean and wishing that it would reach the right person and now the thing is outside from earth. I think there is no use case for this technology as of now but who knows, maybe it would be useful in the future.

I don't think it's needed for now because we are still using bitcoin for the transaction online. But that is good news for the bitcoin community, so we know that there are other benefits of bitcoin that we don't know and I am sure that we still searching for more benefits from bitcoin. I am sure that the other benefits of bitcoin will be known from the journey of bitcoin itself and we can use those benefits for reaching our goals.

If that is true then that's good especially to those who have astronaut relatives. It is just that I am not really in this kind of thinking that it can be possible because I don't have relatives outside space but if its true l, I can say that bitcoin or crypto can take it far away even outside space they can go through so we can say that crypto is expanding more.

I dont believe in that news. There is no perfect signal in the space so astraunot are using special device to communicate at NASA. Do I think this is not possible. And as far as I know there is no messaging app that can use only for bitcoin. So I think that's news is not true and for fun only but I hope bitcoin will develop that kind of app someday.

these messages may not be moderated, but it is in public mode, so it is not private. I believe I will not use this feature to chat with someone through the platform provided by Bitcoin. If possible, this is just like an annotation or a text message with transactions that make things more convenient.

What do you call those satelites ?  Cant they be used as signal ? But your right they also have special devices that can used to comunicate from someone else  .

Do I think this is not possible. And as far as I know there is no messaging app that can use only for bitcoin.

Thats also what im thinking about . bitcoin is only a crypto that can be used for asset and currency use , i dont think that it can send message  but blockchain maybe  because blockchain is a kind of technology that can be used for something else  .

That would be so expensive to do with the current state of technology that is insane.

And true, i agree. This is just a prototype, it needs to start somewhere anyways. But the idea to use Satellites is pretty good and i didn't think of it at all, never crossed my mind.

This are the kind of things i like about the future possibilities of Bitcoin, and when we say possibilities we cannot even imagine we are not exaggerating at all. What kind of technologies would this bring in the future? What kind of developments will be born out of this?

The possibilities are endless certainly.

Those who were actually saying that you will be sending messages to astronauts are hilarious. I am quite afraid that this can be very useful to terrorist attacks since they are able to send messages freely without being detected. Sorry but for now I could only really think of what can this feature be used for and that is mostly by illegal purposes.

Whoaw! Really? Who will receive the messages and what's the use of sending it? No one will pay attention to your messages across the universe. Astronauts will not directly receive it. Well, if your intention is just to release the tensions in you because you lose 95% of what you trade in the market it's understandable. You need space. lol.

After going through the article I also agreed that the platform was science fiction cause it seems like a way where the NASA can communicate through message but it a plus for the crypto currency sphere though. However, it will make people/governments see another bright side of crypto currency.

But I don't know what we would ask the astronauts 🤣 although there is no shortage of the network in the space and they have a working mobile I don't see any reason though, because most of them are pretty busy and I don't think they will be able to read 1000's of messages that we spend from here , wouldn't it be better to send them hand written letters for the time when the come back home ?
Encouragement is necessary but I really think they have a lot of work to do there and it will be really difficult for them to go through everything.
But this is a really nice thing , maybe any family member or friends can use this , it's really interesting to see how far Bitcoins is gonna go and integrate itself with the market.

I will be happy the day we hear that many governments legalized bitcoin, news like the one that was posted by OP is not something that brings a great success to bitcoin, the focus Is when the governments will regulate bitcoin? the years go by and we do not hear things like "5 countries have regulated bitcoin". We need very influential people in politics that can cause many governments to regulate bitcoin

There is something about the OP topic I can't seem to place my hand around.
Bitcoin now used to send messages to space like how is that even possible or is it the blockchain technology that is used to send messages to space.
Bitcoin is a coin that can be sent from peer to peer to I don't know how the message sending would be possible

Well this might be a reason for elon musk to get into using blockchain technology and not just say he holds a little bit of bitcoin he received along time ago from a friend.
He just might invest more money into trying to find a way to integrate this towards the space x endeavors into space exploration further.

After reading the proposed article, I was a little disappointed. I assumed that they actually send messages using cryptocurrency into space, but it turned out that due to improvements in Bitcoin in December 2017, satellites are used to transmit messages. The height of our satellites does not allow us to say that they are in space. The satellites are therefore called satellites of the Earth, because gravity is used, which allows them to rotate around our planet. The presence of an object in space suggests that this object is free from gravity and is in complete weightlessness.

I thought he was working on having solved the problem of fixing the communication that Albert Einstein could not. In other words, that communication is direct bypassing the gap that exists between the years of Light. It would be interesting for Blockchain to fix this problem, would technology have this capability? that the messages arrive directly.

Everything will be available in cryptocurrency as future heading,so messaging outside the surface of the earth is not impossible to do since we have already satellites the rounding the universe.

The question is what’s the reason for sending message outside the earth?looking for Extra terrestrial Textmates?or may look if there are someone beyond our learning that has living there?
