Title: Collection of the Satoshi Symbol Proposal
Post by: supergenics on March 10, 2019, 12:38:02 AM
Just pull together simple webpage with the symbols proposed for the unit "Satoshi", during my free time.

Let me know if I missed any and let me know if you have any new proposals.

Ha... This is cool! But I wonder if we really need a symbol for Sat....

Well, why not? Some people would love to simply taps the symbol instead of typing "sats". Just like when you can use bitcoin logo instead of writing bitcoin every time. Might be useful for exchange too if they want to avoid using 0.0000001 price remark.

i honestly haven't seen any of these (apart from 2 or 3 of them) ever be used as bitcoin symbol so i am going to be skeptical. could you also add where you got each of these symbols from so that they don't look like random pictures some random person thought of on the internet?

also there are repeated symbols, you may want to categorize them under one. for instance https://satoshisymbol.yolasite.com/resources/greeniscolor.jpg is repeated 3 times just with a different color.

in the coming years satoshis will lose there importance.
there is already talk due to the foolishness of LN tokens to introduce an extra 4 decimals into the bitcoin protocol aswell, to try to make the bitcoin networks tx unit of measure resemble the pegged tokens that LN uses. (again more attempts to make the separate network called LN pretend to be cryptocurrency-esq by making bitcoin change to be more LN IOU token-esq, yet again)

this is why a few years back when it was becoming a thing that 100 sats(a bit) may become an important measure (allowing for 100 divisions of such). but those with a certain roadmap deemed it less important as they knew they would be messing with the unit of measure to become more than 100,000,000 per btc eventually.

so it may be too early/late to try branding a 'satoshi'

I think it is a waste of time, we already have a good symbol for Bitcoin ----> BTC and it has been working for a long time, without any problems. Why do we need to mess with something that is working?

We should rather focus on the more important things like spreading Bitcoin adoption and also making Bitcoin adoption a lot easier. We should also get a team of people together to actively fight against all the fud that are spread in the media.

The BTC symbol are already a recognized brand.  >:(

On paper it look good and logical to have Satoshi symbol but it is the most impractical thing to do. I never heard any currency having 2 symbols. Did we put another symbols for cents or fractional part of any currency in the world?
New symbol might bring confusion and any symbol that look similar to BTC symbol should be avoided ( if community'l really want Satoshi symbol)

Not a total waste in my perspective, the OP only wants to propose a symbol for satoshi(fraction of a bitcoin) and it's fine with me as Dollar do have a symbol for cent/s(fraction of a dollar)

Maybe in the future there would be a symbol for satoshi as it may be widely use because we all know that the potential of 1 BTC will be so much in value.

To me this is a constructive topic- besides thinking of which one to choose, perhaps we can also consider not having a unique symbol for Sat.

I visited at the web page. It seems that the "symbol" discussion happened in Reddit and the OP was just trying to consolidate all the ideas to keep everyone updated on the proposal. Obviously, there are some proposals with very similar symbols, as pointed out by pooya87

Let's wait till a Satoshi is worth $1 and just take over the $ symbol.

to keep from things we don't want, you don't have to have symbols other than the symbols. for example bitcoin namely BTC and this symbol will remain unchanged. so we don't need to look for something useless. bitcoin will still be there and we will always use it everywhere, so don't add anything else.

I suppose because there is $ for USD and ¢ cents. But indeed the "satoshi" might not actually remain the smallest unit of bitcoin forever. It took a good while to have BTC admitted as unicode symbol ₿ so even if this actually gets consent it might take a long while (if ever) to get into unicode, and without unicode support it won't be used. Even now people rarely uses ₿ as they should...

I don't know if it's just me that get confuse when reading like 10k sats rather than 0.00010000BTC. Perhaps, if there will be an official logo for satoshis then it won't matter for me. But I found this ⚡ thunder like symbol more cool and don't resemble to $.

Ha... This is cool! But I wonder if we really need a symbol for Sat....

let me give you an example for easier understanding when you want to buy something like a game that is worth $9.99 saying it costs BTC0.00049950 is hard, you can't even read that without saying zero point zero zero,.... but reading 49,950 is easier (that value is with bitcoin's ATH at $20k) now when price rises more you have to say it costs something like BTC0.00000499 which is even harder to comprehend but saying 499 satoshi is much easier. and having a unit instead of the word "satoshi" makes it even more compact.
