Title: extreme overclocking of avalon 60gh/s mini rig Post by: dragon613 on March 12, 2014, 06:40:26 AM Hello, new miner here, just ordered my first bitcoin miner today. An avalon 60gh/s mini rig. Ive been doing some research on this model and have been trying to figure out how to maximize my return from it so that I can afford to buy a bigger unit later. I already determined that by flashing modified firmware to it you can overclock this unit up to 80gh/s but I read that you could increase it even further using an alternative psu but they werent too specific on what psu to use in this application. Assuming that cooling is not a limiting factor. ( me and orlando carbonics are on a first name basis) what psu would you recomend to increase the hash rate of this unit to > 100gh/s. Also would I need to increase the overall wattage or the voltage of the power supply. Or both. What are the other limiting hardware factors to be aware of? Such as any components between the psu and chipset which would be unable to operate under the increased voltage/wattage and require replacement. If I could get this unit up past 100gh I would go ahead and sink the whole board assembly in a subzero fluid bath chilled by a cooling rack using either dry ice/ acetone or a subzero chemical cooling bath using some kind of endothermic salt reaction. Id like to try the same one day with an erupter blade. Its already designed for optimum operation in fluid immersion systems and its a much simpler board so it should be much easier given proper cooling to overclock it to great extents. I just dont understand these miners these days where you can only overclock them by 20-40% of stock speed. In my day you could take a z80 and overclock it to over 250 times its stock speed by sticking it in the freezer overnight. They just dont make things like they used to I geuss. Still I would like to try andtake a erupter blade and triple its speed at say -50C. I dont have alotta capital for hardware but I wouldnt minding having a higher operating cost if extremely overclocked.

and no, you wont get it much further without actually swapping out components for higher amperage/voltage. Back in the day, manufacturers used to sell their parts clocked at speeds far below (like 10% of) their actual room temperature capability. Nowadays, they sell them at about 70% to 90% of their room temperature capability.
