Title: Electrum and VPN
Post by: Sauaba on March 15, 2019, 01:56:03 PM
Hi.
I´m a lucky user of Electrum. But I don´t know, why Electrum keeps disconnected when I run Electrum with VPN connected? Tried several servers and nothing. After disconnecting from VPN and using my real IP, Electrum connects and works without any issue.
Is there a workaround to fix it?
Thanks for any help. I´m using PureVPN.

Are you using an old version? It's a feature to force you to upgrade from Electrum.org

Are you experiencing disconnections when you are on your VPN while browsing and using the Internet, not just Electrum? It could also be a conflict with the AntiVirus you use. I know that Avira used to do that. Disconnect your VPN for no apparent reason.

It would help to know the OS you're using and the version of Electrum.   I've had the same issue with Ubuntu in the past, but it's been a while.  I've never had the issue come up on windows.

See here: https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/issues/5193#issue-420161782 .

This is the resolution I used to fix the problem on Ubuntu.

If you are having an issue in your Electrum wallet while your PureVPN is connected I think the problem is in your VPN.

Can you try to check the Basic settings in PureVPN software and check the protocols choose PPTP or L2TP test them one by one? If the Electrum couldn't connect can you check the advanced settings and check this "switch to secure DNS" uncheck or check this and test the electrum again. Because sometimes the problem is DNS why Electrum is preventing on connecting to any servers.

Hi there,

It seems that Electrum is only accessible via your home/ISP IP. When you connect the VPN, your IP address changes to the specific VPN location/server and Electrum gets blocked/disconnected. You will have to get a Dedicated/Static IP account and then white-list that IP with Electrum in order to use it on a VPN connection.
