Title: GTX1060 not working after being disconnected for few weeks.
Post by: Darnn on March 23, 2019, 10:05:39 AM
Hello folks,

I had spare GTX1060 which I used to mine with on my gaming setup. It was connected to motherboard via riser and I mined on it for about 6-8 months. The I was travelling with my pc so I left it completelly unplugged for around 7-8 weeks in my flat. Now I wanted to start mining with it again and as it turns out, it does not work. Here is what happens.

- when connected via riser, at PC boot it spins it fans for about 3 seconds, then stop and is not being recognised at all by PC
- when connected directly to PCI Express x16 slot on mb, result is the same

Steps that I took to try to fix the problem :
- I tried every available pci x1 slot with riser
- I tried 2 different pci x16 slots, didn't try slot nr 1 because gtx 1080 sits in it.
- Reinstalled gpu drivers each time I tried to install the card, did clean installation
- tried different configurations of power cables from my PSU\
- BIOS is up to date

GPU did work on this exact PC before. PC specs:

i7 7700k
Gigabyte Z270 Gaming7
16GB Coirsair Vengeance 3200 MHz
GTX1080 as main GPU
PSU         Corsair AX 650i
Original windows 10 pro, up to date

not working GTX1060 comes from K2FA, 6GB model

What did I miss?

If it's still under warranty, I'll recommend RMA'ing it.

@MATHReX card is about 13 months old so it still should be, I throwed away original box tho. But I should have proof of purchase somewhere because I ordered it on amazon brand new.

@alucard20724 aight, I'll try it later today when I'm back home

It's possible that something happened in the contacts of the chip. May be due to heat. There is a ghostly chance to make the video card work. You can try to warm the chip with a hairdryer (it's better to watch a video on YouTube before this). Once I managed to extend the life of my problematic video card on a laptop for almost half a year.

You could try new power cable and pcie port from PSU.  Check with another working GPU to see if PSU is functioning properly.

Yes, this exactly. Also it might help if you have another PC around to test the card in there.

Also have you tried to use it as only GPU in your PC? (remove the 1080)
