Title: Merit giveaway for forum contributions!
Post by: OgNasty on March 25, 2019, 07:48:08 PM
Have you contributed something of value to this forum?  Maybe you hosted (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2245690.0) a (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1578227.0) giveaway (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1583075.0), created a project (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1783328.0), supported another project (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=86854.0), offered (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=352515.0) self-made (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1637562.0) goods (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1803450.0), provided a trusted service (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=303281.0), or helped another forum member (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5120398.msg50153579#msg50153579)?  If so, I'm looking for you!

Provide a link to your contribution in this thread and I will review it.  I may or may not leave merit, which is of course at my discretion.

Sorry for intruding into your giveaway thread, but I would like to know if it's okay to post links to someone else's thread in case it matches the requirements.
Probably some members may not be aware that you are looking for their kind of content here in the beginners, and Help board.

I did ask specifically for users to post their own contributions and asked in the Beginners section to target newbies who have been getting involved.  I'm not moderating this thread, so I guess I'll just say to do what you think is right and it will or won't be viewed as off-topic.  The worst that can happen is a moderator removes it.

I dedicated my early days on forum to helping user on Beginner and help board (But of recent I decided to explore other boards). so majority of my reply can be classified under your "help another forum member" category. So I won't drop link to replys since those merit will do more good to others than me in regards to ranking up.

But here are some of my notable works via started topics (just for publicity).

Glad to see that you are helping people's by merit on their post. I noticed from beginning you are helping especially to nebiwe users. However although I have made few contribution topic for forum user but I will not post it here for merit. Because newbie need merit more than me. I have earned enough and I believe I can earn more. But newbie really need help. I am always trying to help especially for low rank user. But unfortunately I am out of smerit from few days. So this thread would be help who are active on this board.

Thanks once again @OgNasty for helping low rank users.

but I would like to know if it's okay to post links to someone else's thread in case it matches the requirements.
You can submit post from other members on [self-moderated] Report unmerited good posts to Merit Source   (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5093271.0) thread.

Some great links in here. Keep ‘em coming. Also, I’d love it if people’s contributions were more than them starting a thread to post their opinion about something. When I think of contributions, I think a project that extends beyond an opinion post. I would love to see more questions being answered and help given to users, as opposed to another thread where someone is regurgitating information in an attempt to earn merit.

Great I like this way of divvying up some merit - a lot of people post on this forum to try and get answers to issues or to understand how a project works (particularly on altcoin forums once you cut through the spam!)

Since you're mainly looking for examples of where people have helped each other out (and I'm assuming you don't want any posts going way back) here is my entry hot off the press:

You shouldn't be only encouraged just by receiving merit from giveaway. It is not necessary to earn merit to be able to contribute in the forum. I am not saying that you shouldn't be encouraged when you received merit from giveaways/contest. If you really want to contribute to the forum then I am 100% sure you'll get rewarded just like these forum users that contributed a lot. DdmrDdmr, theyoungmillionaire and more. I tried to contribute and I did. I created a thread about 2FA that really help some forum users especially newbies.

Hello i have posted here already I do not give link to my posts that is worth it a merit. However, I am interesting to know if this post or link does contribute to the forum or not.

Here is the link and as the other user say I will just want to try my luck.

A friendly reminder. Would love to see people answering questions and helping other users, not just starting threads.

Another tip.  I'm not bilingual, so I may try to use Google Translate if you post a topic not in English, but most of the time it makes no sense so I can't award Merit.  My apologies for my lack of ability.

Also, if your post is shilling some altcoin or talking about how great companies are that have a questionable support record when it comes to Bitcoin, I will probably not leave Merit either.  :'(

Provide a link to your contribution in this thread and I will review it.  I may or may not leave merit, which is of course at my discretion.

That is a very tempting offer, but since I am the new one to the forum, could you please share what the merits give and how is it possible to send them? As for receiving, I got it so that people just give them away for supporting each other. Or maybe that was a wrong perception.

Well, this is my first time asking for merit.
Since the merit system was implemented, I just gave up on the ranks as the merit system, although I agree that it is necessary, seems to be unfair.
The serious users/contributors of the forum are mostly neglected unless they go around and ask for merit... in the end I think it has the dark side of favouring the older/higher ranking members in relation to newer members because it does not check if they deserve their position (obtained when there was no merit system) - and some have huge negative feedbacks, and because higher ranking members naturally receive a lot of merit from lower ranks while lower ranks are naturally neglected. It keeps the higher rank numbers under control mostly by the same people (maybe I'm wrong, but how many got promoted to hero/legendary since the use of merit system?)
In theory is a good measure, but it does not work so well...
If we want to spread crypto use and global adoption, new members need to be more than welcome.... and at the same time there is this problem of constant abuse...
Not sure on what could be done, but maybe creating a board of selected users to which the candidate could apply to ask for a review on it's rank, even if there was no merit points ? this could help in tackle the problem partly...
well, sorry for this long statement, just my thoughts...
In the end I got tired of not rising rank and decided that I should ask someone to check my contribution so that I can see if I deserve some merit or if I should change something...
well, concerning my posts, not sure what could qualify for merit, would you be so kind to have a quick scroll on my posts?

Hi, could be so that I am already late with my post and general hope for getting a merit, but still :)
Here you can see the project we've been working on: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4566459.msg41155701#msg41155701

Definitely more posts on the role of design for blockchain startups coming soon, but still thank you for the opportunity!

@OgNasty I have some new posts, I can share them here? I already received before.

Will edit and post here links if you allow.

They'd better be good!  Would love if they were directly answering a user's question and not just posting another guide.

The first guide is about using stop-limit function. The second one is about tips to avoid plagiarism

I’ve seen so many of these guides now, I’ll be ignoring posts that link to trading guides. I want to see posts that actually help users. If the only value you add here is saving someone from typing in a google search, you need to rethink your approach.

Yeah this post seems good especially to the newbie here in the forum. Though you only share the site for and it is not your work but still it is good.

BTW, I encourage you to post more helpful topucs for the forum and add it here. The OP is very generous in giving merits here.
