Title: money stuck in electrum
Post by: vl12345 on April 07, 2019, 09:05:50 AM

Hello, I can not use the money that was transferred from the exchange binance to the electrum wallet. The status of the transaction is not clear, I do not know what to do. Previous transactions are marked with a green check mark and everything is fine with them, but the last one in the form of gears and the money I can not use. Could you help me figure this out or write an electrum wallet support mail?

It means that your transaction hasn't been confirmed yet. There are currently about 3000 unconfirmed transactions (https://www.blockchain.com/btc/unconfirmed-transactions) so it might take some time for your transaction to get 1 confirmation. Exchanges usually overpay the transaction fee so it should get confirmed soon.

It would help if you could provide the transaction TX so we can see if the fee is high enough

Quoting OP's private message.

Transaction was a few weeks ago, then I wrote to Binance and received the following response.
Please note that the transaction was successful, it was confirmed on the blockchain, so the money has already left Binance.
If the money doesn't appear in the other wallet/exchange, please contact them directly because there's nothing else we can do from our end.

There must be something wrong with your Electrum then. Try connecting to another server. Click on the green dot or two arrows located in the bottom right of the window and select server manually. I have just launched Electrum to test it and it took some time for my client to synchronise. You can also share your txid with us if you well okay with it.

Interesting.
I would like to see the tx ID too.
From the last few days the memepool is having loads of trascations and the tx fee is high as well.

The "Gears" icon, it's an unconfirmed transaction which might occur even if the tx was already confirmed if the wallet wasn't synced or offline.

Don't check it with your wallet, check it with an online blockchain explorer. Don't worry, as long as you keep your seed words (priv key) safe, you will be fine. You should eventually be able to recover control of your money.

Understand that a Bitcoin transaction actually occurs "in the cloud" (blockchain), not in the "wallet". Wallets are more or less just means to control, but not true origin/destination.

Which Electrum version are you using and is your wallet synchronised? With versions older than 3.3 you will no longer be able to connect to a server. Electrum has been under heavy DDOS attacks recently and because of that many users are reporting problems connecting to the servers. Can you see a green dot on the bottom right?

I believed the OP is using latest version of electrum since his previous transaction actually went through and the real problem is that his transaction is yet to be confirmed and if you check you see that the number of unconfirm transactions are increasing simultaneously.

Are you for real? The average mempool size (https://jochen-hoenicke.de/queue/#0,24h) has been low to normal since Friday.
And OP said that the transaction was "a few weeks ago", the chance that it's confirmed by now is 99% even if it a 1sat/byte transaction.

He haven't heard from him since then so this case might be solved already.

Not necessarily. He does say that his previous transactions went through but we don't know when those previous transactions took place. It is possible that his last transaction was sent 6 months ago or several years ago. And now that Electrum version will no longer connect to any servers. He needs to provide more details about this issue.
