Title: Bitcoins in wallet, but Electrum Wallet won't connect.
Post by: SignalJacker on April 10, 2019, 01:13:02 PM
Hello, I downloaded and installed the Elecrum wallet, bought some bitcoins and sent them to the Electrum wallet bitcoin address, but the wallet won't connect!! Have I lost my bitcoins?

I have added an acception for my wallet in windows firewall, it is not blocked, I have followed the online instructions on connecting to differrent servers and tried many but I still got no connection, light is always red.

Can anyone help?

What version of Electrum are you using? You certain that you have the latest version, and that it is genuine? (Check checksum?)

I believe that it could be that older versions will no longer work/connect properly, due to the exploits that they have (RPC unlocked, & malware/phishing spreading through certain third party servers(?)),

Are you also 100% certain that your firewall, perhaps your ISP isn't blocking any connections?

This seems like a good suggestion;
This sometimes happens to me, but it's not a windows OS issue or malware. Changing DNS might solve your issue because it solved my Electrum connection issue.

Here is what I do, I change my DNS to OpenDNS "208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220" or Google DNS"8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4" this time after changing my DNS I open CMD and type "ipconfig /release" then "ipconfig /renew" after that open your electrum again.

You can also try to use a VPN to unblock or bypass any restricted connection.
Check the entire thread for things that it could be.

EDIT: seems like the servers might be under DDOS attack. Be wary of that too.

Servers are under DDOS attack (https://twitter.com/ElectrumWallet/status/1114987055736655873). I'm having the same problem and I can only connect to a few servers right now. Try this one (it worked for me): 148.251.87.112

Just as a confirmation that you still have control over the funds. Go to the console and type:

Code:
ismine('address_here')

If it returns true and you can see the funds in a blockexplorer, then you still have them.

Electrum server are under a DoS attack currently.

If you have downloaded it from https://electrum.org, you should have the original electrum which means your BTC are safe.
But you should always verify the signature before installing software.

From which country are you? People from russia have reported connection issues multiple times already.
If you are located in russia, this might be your ISP blocking the traffic.

So, please verify the signature of your downloaded file and make sure that you have version 3.3.4 installed (the lastest).

Maybe someone can share a working electrum server, which you could try connect to. Try the server working for OmegaStarScream.

I downloaded it from their own site, it's the latset version: 3.3.4. I have dissabled all the anti virus and malware software I have, including windows defender and also dissabled ransomware and folder protection.

Almost all the servers are giving me a red light except for a few which just stay stuck synchronizing.

OK, I checked the blockexplorer the transaction is showing. But wallet still wont connect, is there any other way I can use them other than with my Electron Wallet?

Did you open the console inside of electrum and entered the command ? Did it return true ?

Also.. are you takling about electrum or electron ? Those are two completely different wallets..

Ok, please make sure to re enable everything again.
And verify the signature of the file you have downloaded. That's the only way to make sure you have downloaded the correct wallet and not some malware.

How long are these few staying at synchronizing ?

Yeah it's Electrum, I did as you suggested and the console returned "True". The synchronizing is constant, no change, all still mainly red and then a few that just stick on Synchronizing.

Are you sure that you tried to change your server manually? you must right-click the server you want and click the "Use as server"
Check this server it's working fine to me electrum.peleion.com find it on server list and make sure to use the right-click first to use the server.

If this doesn't work your Electrum might be blocked by your ISP.

Try to use a VPN it might solve your issue because my electrum wallet here is working fine.

As has been suggested twice, check your files next time before installing. It's not that complicated. On windows just follow this tutorial. (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4183993.0)

The reason for reinforcing this request is that the DDos attack is related to attempted attacks involving infected files on cloned websites.

OK, I had installed the portable version, I now have my coins back and a working Electrum wallet after installing the windows version.

I like the wallet and am happy to have gotten my coins back safely.

Thanks everyone.

Glad to hear that you managed to get it working... but the issue most likely isn't related to any difference between portable or "installed" version... the simple answer is that the network of Electrum Servers is under attack at the moment and being DoS'd heavily. :-\

Server connections are timing out, servers are "lagging", synchronising can take a while etc.

Users will just need to exercise patience, and manually try different servers if they get the "red dot"... Click the "red dot", Right-Click a server in the list and then select "Use as server"... then wait at least 2-3 minutes before trying another. (You can also try the servers on the "server" tab if you deselect the "select server automatically")
