Title: mining electric cost calculator
Post by: fullzero on April 14, 2019, 07:29:42 PM
Fellow miners,

I made this tool last year for openrig.net and ultimately decided not to integrate it.

mining electric cost calculator Link (https://openrig.net/electric_cost_calculator)

It allows you to easily estimate your mining electric cost using details from your electric bill and rigs.

It is built with HTML and jquery 3.4.0.

If you download the Github (https://github.com/hartmanm/mining_electric_cost_calculator) repo

and run it locally in your browser;

you can edit the default configuration json(s) (lines 29-39 near the top of the file)

https://i.imgur.com/pIP5Cln.png

to allow your configuration to persist.

Click on the purple buttons to make them editable:

Click away to implement your edits.

Current Bill: (use any title you wish)

Usage: (get this number from your electric bill)

Number of Days: (get this number from your electric bill or use the desired number)

Bill Total: (get this number from your electric bill)

Powerlimits: (enter each rigs powerlimit comma separated with no spaces)

Number of GPUs: (enter the number of GPUs for each rig comma separated with no spaces)

You should provide some more friendly interface, automatic days between months calculation and put this into a mobile app  ;D

You wont even notice on where to input those numbers.  ;D

There is a more extensive explanation on the GitHub readme.

This was meant to be a tool which could be quickly edited and give a good estimate of your mining electric cost.

TooDumbForBitcoin do you mean; you want to track and store the cost from each monthly bill?

This tool would be quite a handy tool looking at the purpose it would server. At least it would help miners estimate their cost in setting up a  mining rig and decide if it would be advisable to go into mining looking at the fact that mining is really not profitable as it used to be especially if you are mining individually.

If someone is considering mining and they don't know their kWh cost; this tool is an easy way to find out.

If your kWh cost is not below 0.10, you are better off buying coins directly at an exchange.

This looks impressive. I don't really find the user interface so easy for newbies easy navigation. Maybe you can work on that. Asides that, every other property of the mining calculator is good

This may help little bit nice efforts but there are alot of other factors like mining machine,GPU,ASICs are also the key factors which must be calculated for accurate mining.

I appreciate your effort building this tool for miners though it might be ideal if you could provide a more user friendly and intuitive GUI interface for ease of use and also I guess a simple tutorial will be very much appreciated by the community. :)

;D It seems to me that many of them use EXl professionally. Of course, maybe your software is more convenient to use. However, those who are accustomed to counting expenses, he already protects. Thanks for the link, see what you have created.

This is a nice development and i like the idea behind the project. You need to make some improvements concerning the user interface it seems to hard for a novice to understand.  With that improvement the tool will be a very effective one for miners

For the miners, the tools are really good, the electricity bill calculations do record the form every month, and the tools can make more progress. Have a memory function?

I don't encourage people to mine with ASICs.  Unless you have very low cost power, or hosting with very low cost power; it is not advisable.

This tool was intended to be for fast estimates.  For an ASIC you can set its number of GPUs to 1 and subtract the core 53 watts from the ASIC powerdraw.

This will incorporate the ASIC power usage into the calculation.

I think the interface is simple; I am open to suggestions for how to make it more intuitive.

I have added more information to the OP, let me know if you think that is effective as a tutorial.

I have edited the OP with more information on how to edit the defaults.

As this is meant to be able to be used locally in your browser or via the hosted site; It does not have the capability to save your edits.

As most miners generally retain the same equipment, downloading the GitHub repo and modifying the html file as described in the OP will allow easy calculation of each months usage.

In my own usage of this, I print the page after making monthly modifications to create a record of the usage.

It's a nice calculation to get out of the Electrical cost. It is possible to get a lot of information out of it.

This tool is a very good initiative from you mate. It will be of tremendous help to miners as they wouldn't have to go through all the stress in calculating their electrical mining cost

Exactly mate you are right and I agree with you. It was quite very helpful for like us who have not much knowledge. Now I can calculate mining electric cost very nicely.

This is good and well done, I would have loved to have a good interface, this is what most good projects in the space are lacking, good projects but bad  for users to use it. Another good example is the Lighting Network, I hope the developers will take these comments and use them to improve the calculator

This is really nice and also very quite helpful but am thinking that for someone that knows little or nothing about minning that this looks kind of difficult. Have learnt from this. Thanks for sharing

Thanks, this is really a very interesting idea, perfect for mining.
I have always been interested in statistics and live data, now I can take it more fully.

It's good to see the OP has significant improvements over the previous one and is much easy to understand now with descriptions in it. I  think maybe you could put a kilowatt hour unit (KWH) in your "Usage" field like this "Usage in KWH" to make it more specific. And also I was thinking if you could make a list of GPU's with average usage in KWH per day and integrate it into your calculator to have more precise results? I hope I am not being too demanding with it. :)

this will be very helpful for new and old miners, and indeed the user interface is less friendly but it all depends on the taste of each.

I think there are still various kinds of tools that can help miners to be able to get a lot of profits, only this tool is definitely not accurate because of the influence of the conditions in which you are mining.

"Usage" field like this "Usage in KWH" : this is easy to change.

Are you talking about a table of information?

Unfortunately in the country where I live the cost of electricity is very high, the options for sustainable energy are few. For me, your tool will serve to make a better planning of expenses.

The calculator to create a speculation to your electricity for mining cost only dude. Remember it will have various additional cost and this is just a speculation based on how much KWH cost that applied in your country.

This sure is a handy tool which would allow miners estimate the cost of their electricity in comparison to the profits they are making with mining whatever cryptocurrency they are mining. I doubt it would be profitable mining bitcoin at this stage.

OK, even if you use this type of a calculator and get the data, how will it help you in reality, bro?
If ASIC eats electricity, it will not stop doing it. I know that some of the calculators that resemble this stuff are available online. By the way, how much money do you pay for electric power? My expenses here are 0.09$/kWh, and it is pretty much.

Each country has a different reality, here in São Paulo, Brazil, the cost of kWh is almost $ 0.20 ... It's really very expensive! Unfortunately, mining is not very feasible.
