Hi, what is the affiliation between Stegos and Emotiq? Two projects have the same team and whenever I click on Emotiq, it directly transfers to Stegos website.

Hi there! Our mainnet launch date is May 31, 2019.

Stegos is the new name of Emotiq. It better reflects our new marketing focus on being the fastest and most scalable privacy coin. The team has stayed the same, including our genius cryptographer, VP of Engineering, etc. We have moved way ahead since Emotiq technology-wise and it’s not just the privacy angle. We've made lots of improvements and the technology is even better.

There’s a team behind the project. We leave them to focus on technology, though, so there are only 1-2 public faces. You can always read more about the team on our website, though.

Stegos: More trustless than ZCash, more scalable than Monero, more user-friendly than MimbleWimble

We live in an era of unprecedented state surveillance and crackdowns on freedom of transactions, expression, and even thought. But privacy is a universal human right that we must fight to preserve. There are various tools available which promise to ensure your privacy, such as encrypted email and messaging applications, but these leave highly visible clues about who you are and who you are talking to.

Stegos Privacy Blockchain is the best way to secure your data, transactions and communications. Unlike traditional email and online messaging services, it’s completely decentralized, cryptographically secure, and leaves no telltale clues in the open. It’s impossible to see who you send or receive information from, or even to see how you’re connecting to the Stegos blockchain. No one but the recipient can see what you’ve sent, and there’s nothing to link the information or communications to your real-life identity.

Issues with existing privacy blockchain implementations
There are already several privacy blockchains, including Verge, Dash, ZCash, Monero, Grin and Beam, all offering different degrees of privacy and confidentiality. Unfortunately, all these blockchains also come with drawbacks. For example, Verge offers little privacy and nothing unique, Dash is not really private, ZCash requires you to trust it and Monero is hard to scale.

Grin and Beam, both based on MimbleWimble technology, require both sender and receiver to be online to complete a transaction, which is impractical for modern global communication and business needs. In addition, any node on the Grin/Beam network can listen in and trace coins being exchanged, so their coins are not fungible and can be easily tainted.

Last but not least, none of the above blockchains provide a platform for building privacy applications, drastically reducing their utility and accessibility.

Privacy technology implemented by Stegos

Using privacy technologies like pairing-based cryptography (PBC), BLS signatures, Schnorr signatures, Confidential Transactions (CT), stealth addresses, Bulletproofs, ValueShuffle, plus scalability via OmniLedger sharding, Stegos fixes the shortcomings of existing privacy coins and offers complete and total privacy with no usability drawbacks.

We improve on the blockchain status quo with BlockCrunch, Snowball and SafeData, technologies developed in-house, as well as the Trusted Application Container for easy and convenient deployment of new privacy apps built on the Stegos platform.

Anonymity, fungibility and untraceability

Anonymity, fungibility and untraceability are essential requirements of a privacy coin. Bitcoin is not anonymous, for example, as wallet addresses are public. Bitcoin is also not untraceable, as transaction history can be easily followed by using a block explorer, as well as specialized blockchain analysis tools.

Fungibility is the ability for one unit of a good or currency to be freely exchanged for another unit. For example, the US dollar is fungible, because any dollar bill can be exchanged for another one without loss of value. Bitcoin is not fungible for the same reason it’s not anonymous — all Bitcoin payments can be freely traced and coins can be labeled as tainted if they were ever used for illicit activity. Crypto exchanges and businesses may refuse to accept these tainted coins, making them less valuable compared to other coins. Exchange without loss of value is no longer possible and these coins are said to be non-fungible.

Fungibility is important, as the most recent recipient of any tainted coins may be left holding the bag, despite no knowledge of their prior illicit use. They might even lose access to their money if the tainted coins are sanctioned by the authorities. Confidential transactions improve fungibility by encrypting the input and output of each transaction, making it more difficult to differentiate tainted coins from untainted ones. But they do not completely solve the problem.

Like Monero and ZCash, Stegos uses one-time payment addresses. These make it impossible to identify recipients of a transaction, because every transaction is directed to a new and unique (stealth) address.

We implement confidential transactions by cloaking input and output amounts in each transaction and substituting them with their Pedersen committments. Only the sender and the recipient of the coins know the actual values used. We secure the transaction by proving that the sum of all inputs is greater or equal to the sum of all outputs. (It’s impossible to tell if a cloaked amount is positive or negative so also take the Bulletproof of the value of each cloaked amount, which proves that it falls within in a certain numerical range.)

We don’t store transactions in our blocks but instead simplify them down to inputs and outputs, MimbleWimble-style. This makes it almost impossible to trace transactions on our blockchain. While a malicious node implanted in our blockchain could theoretically collect and store transaction history in order to analyze it later and potentially taint coins or identify senders and receivers, this is both highly unlikely and impractical. This is also a problem common to other privacy technologies such as MimbleWimble.

Snowball, our protocol for mixing confidential transactions, builds on ValueShuffle to completely sever the relationship between inputs and outputs of each transaction, as well as senders and receivers, providing complete untraceability and fungibility.

Snowball forms pools of senders who wish to mix their transactions and then creates a super-transaction, mixing it using DiceMix. Then a collective signature is attached and the transaction is published. All anyone can see in a Snowball super-transaction is that all inputs are being spent and that each output is associated with one or more inputs. It is impossible to tell which output corresponds to which input.

Keeping the blockchain small

Lots of blockchains talk about reaching a million transactions per second (tps) but no one talks about how they are going to maintain a blockchain that’s growing that fast. Bitcoin only does 7 tps and the blockchain is expected to grow past 170gb by the end of this year. Non-cash transactions are estimated at 1.4 billion per day and are expected to grow quadratically, with the current volume translating to just 16k tps.

Using an average Bitcoin transaction of 250 bytes, this would generate 350 gigabytes every day, or 127 terabytes every year. This amount of data is completely unsustainable and could only be handled on a few very centralized supercomputers.

Stegos uses BLS instead of Schnorr signatures in its consensus protocol and for block signing. This allows us to simultaneously minimize network communications, improve processing speed, and keep the block size small by combining every signature in the block into a single signature.

We also directly address the problem of the ever-growing blockchain with BlockCrunch technology, a product of our in-house research and development. Instead of storing transactions in each block, we decompose them into Merkle trees of inputs and outputs. As they receive each block and before adding it to the end of their chain, Stegos validators apply cryptographically secure pruning to the inputs spent by each output. Then instead of being a ledger of every transaction ever made, like Bitcoin, the Stegos blockchain then is more like a database of unspent coins. This keeps the chain much smaller, and with no transaction history to trace there’s no way to compromise the privacy and fungibility of Stegos coins.

Say no to useless smart contracts

At Stegos, we firmly believe that smart contracts are useless and will continue to be useless for the foreseeable future, ERC20 tokens and CryptoKitties notwithstanding. Blockchain is a powerful mechanism for a decentralized and trustless exchange of data, though, and we harness this power with SafeData technology, as well as the Trusted Application Container (TAC), both products of in-house research.

With SafeData and our software development kit (SDK), developers can easily build mobile applications that exchange data with complete privacy and confidentiality. The Trusted Application Container (TAC) makes it easy to deploy privacy apps and provides these apps with a convenient programming interface (API) to access data stored on the blockchain, as well as collecting subscription payments for app use.

Inspired by WeChat and its use of mini-apps, we designed the TAC as a single mobile application with an integrated wallet that can run multiple privacy apps. Stegos privacy mini-apps can be developed using XML, CSS and JavaScript, technologies that all developers are already familiar with.

Keeping data on the blockchain

There are many applications that would benefit from storing data on the blockchain but cannot do so since the data needs to be frequently modified. A trading application or a decentralized exchange (DEX) would need to duplicate the entire order book every time it received a new quote or trade. Micropayments, e.g. paying for streaming short bursts of video, are another example of an appealing use case which is completely impractical in current blockchain approaches.

Frequently modified data consumes large amounts of blockchain space, even though only the most recent copy of the data is needed. Bitcoin and other blockchains have begun to develop Layer 2 technologies like Lightning Network and state channels to avoid storing frequently modified data on the blockchain. But there’s no need for such solutions with Stegos.

We secure data transactions by using the same Pedersen commitments and Bulletproofs as regular payment transactions. This lets us also prune spent data just as we prune spent coins, thus keeping the Stegos blockchain small and nimble.

Proof-of-stake consensus

Proof of stake (PoS) is a consensus algorithm where the creator of the next block is chosen via various combinations of random selection, as well as the wealth and age of staked funds. PoS blockchains are more energy efficient than currencies based on proof-of-work (PoW) algorithms.

Scalable bias-resistant distributed randomness is a critical component of Stegos. We use it to select validator groups and elect the leader of each consensus round, among other things. Stegos randomness is based on Verified Random Functions (VRF) and an improvement on RandHerd, a distributed protocol that enables a potentially large collection of servers to form a distributed public randomness beacon, which proactively generates a regular series of public random outputs.

Our randomness protocol generates a distributed public randomness beacon from BLS signatures on block headers. VRFs are used to exclude the possibility of stake grinding by the leader of each consensus round.

The Stegos consensus protocol is based on Practical Byzantine Fault Tolerance (pBFT) but adds strong consistency, which enables all validators to agree on the validity of blocks without wasting computing cycles to resolve forks and inconsistencies. As soon as a transaction appears in the blockchain, it can be considered confirmed.

We also adopt Collective Signing (CoSi), a scalable witness cosigning protocol ensuring that every authoritative statement is validated and publicly logged by a diverse group of witnesses before any client will accept it. CoSi builds on existing cryptographic multi-signature methods, scaling them to support thousands of witnesses via signature aggregation over efficient communications.

The default implementation of CoSi uses Schnorr signatures, which we replace with BLS signatures for performance reasons. The original design of CoSi uses Schnorr signatures and tree-based communications. We replace this with BLS signatures and gossip-based communications for security and performance reasons.

Conclusion

With no heavy-duty PoW calculations to perform, anyone can earn coins by running a Stegos node on the smartphone in their pocket and helping to validate Stegos transactions.

Your site says "Stegos has already raised $15M (million) of this target in 2018". Isn't enough cash for the initial development of the project? The rest of the amount you could have in your coin and in the case of successful development to sell them on the exchange.

Your point of comparison is Zcash, Monero and MimbleWimble. Let us see how far you will achieve in terms of popularity of usage with respect to Zcash & Monero. What are your programs to convince crypto users that you are much much better than those 3 mentioned altcoins combined? Zcash & Monero have been in this community for so long already. They already cemented their position in this crypto industry and most of the projects that tried to imitate their features are not anywhere near their popularity.

Zcash and Monero can only be used for payments, and all display weaknesses in terms of scalability, privacy, security, or usability. Stegos builds and improves upon these and other privacy coins and can be used to send both payments and data with complete confidentiality. The Stegos trusted application container (TAC) allows developers to easily build applications that communicate anonymously, privately, and efficiently.

For MimbleWimble, the receiver of the payment needs to be online for the security features to work. Current implementations of MimbleWimble fail the non-interactive requirement by requiring users to communicate out of band, potentially compromising security. Both these restrictions are unacceptable reductions in privacy, so our current design removes them.

Absolutely! Our blockchain is fast and we discard old and spent data in a cryptographically secure way.

We have nothing to do with Ethereum and use none of their (or any other blockchain’s) code. We believe we could do better than zerocoin so we didn’t implement their protocol.

I love these projects! I think while there is no common use of cryptocurrencies, it is better to stay in the shadows. I'm for security and secrecy.

How is Stegos being funded?

Stegos will generate a pre-mine of 1 billion STG tokens. Up to 51.25% of the STG pre-mine may be privately sold to high net-worth individuals and companies to reach a maximum of $30 million. Stegos has already raised $15 million of this target in 2018. Once the mainnet is launched, STG tokens will be sold directly to the general public using the built-in DEX.

How will the app store work? How will I know apps are safe and private?

Stegos privacy apps will be stored off-chain to keep Stegos compact. However, each privacy app must create an on-chain manifest which includes a description of the app, tags and keywords to aid searching, the URL used to download it and a hash of the app bundle.

The app bundles are signed with the developers’ public key, which allows users to leave on-chain app reviews to rank individual apps and developers.

What are red packets? How do they work?

Red packets (hongbao) are a way to send surprise gifts or payments to individuals and groups. Users decide how many tokens they want to add to a red packet and how many random gifts they want to distribute. (This number can be set to 1 to make a one-off payment.)

Private red packets can be sent to an individual or group via private Stegos chat or public red packets can be created to distribute a tokens among anyone who has access to the QR code.

Users who try to open a public red packet via the QR code will randomly receive one (or none) of the prizes inside. Users can keep trying to open the red packet (with a slight delay) until it is empty or expires.

What Makes Stegos Transaction Private and Confidential?

Stegos uses multiple methods to ensure maximum privacy. User identities are obfuscated using cryptographic key pairs, and each transaction uses a new stealth address for the recipient(s). What is the Role of a Validator?

The Stegos privacy blockchain uses a version of Albatross PoS consensus algorithm which has been optimized for privacy and mobile compatibility. In this algorithm, a random group of nodes is regularly chosen at a predefined interval of time (measured in micro blocks), to become validators. The role of validators is to verify transactions sent by the users and collectively seal them into blocks.

How does Stegos Private Messaging work?


Stegos private messaging is supported by two features provided by the blockchain: sending a zero-valued transaction and posting a comment in the transaction. Users can exchange messages between each other without sending actual tokens. In the first version of the desktop wallet application, users will be able to send messages using comment fields in transactions. Later on, we are going to add full scale chat functionality to desktop and mobile wallets, in order to simplify private messaging for our users.

First of all, I'd like to apologize for the lack of updates: when you're as serious about privacy as we are at Stegos, it can be hard to strike the right balance between secrecy and sharing!

Rest assured, the whole team has been working hard behind the scenes on the Stegos chain, app, and a LOT of new marketing content, but I haven't done a good enough job of keeping you, our loyal community, up to date.

That changes now.

Starting from today, we'll be making regular weekly announcements about our progress across every aspect of Stegos, not just the technical details of our blockchain development (although of course those will continue as well).

But I promised you a surprise announcement, didn't I? Don't worry, it's not just the fact that we've been too quiet about our progress (that's not news to anyone...).

We're now in the home stretch of our launch and ironing out the details of public sale. It's taken longer than we'd like to get everything perfect, and so in recognition of everyone's patience and loyalty I've decided that…

hm... bounty program looks promising, but why you still not on CMC or any exchange (!you get at ICO $15,850,000!)? admin activity at telegram is very low... how to backup your wallet?

Well just like other projects, startups, Stegos is still in its early days and trying to reach the way to stability. But don't make mistake their private sale with ICO. They raised funds from private investors and soon they will conduct IEO. That's why they can't list the token on any exchange right now let alone CMC.

There's a social mining campaign going on right now and lots of people coming in the group asking questions which one admin or another gives their replies. But from getting the technical solution sense then yeah the main group admins provides less information than what you can find in the Stegos Russian group where almost everyone helps each other.


You have to open the wallet and then click on one of your current accounts. Then you can see the Account Setting option. Click on that to see the Account back up option. Here's how you can back up your wallet by generating 24 word recovery phrases by clicking on Backup.

telegram admin very2 not helping.

Whenever some members have issue the admins help them with instant solution or suggest them to send a mail to the support. Beside, some members of the telegram group also support each other. If you thought the admins were not helping then perhaps you should have posted your issue on here.

Coinmarketcap requires a coin to have a massive daily volume on an exchange before it will consider listing it. Which big exchanges with good volume are you considering trying to get Stegos listed on?

Big exchanges without fake volumes are hard to find and whichever exchange has non-manipulated volume ask a lot of fees and moreover exchange like Binance has less manipulation but it depends on it's IEO launchpad projects and Binance's own hype. Problem is big exchanges now want good project to do IEO on their exchanges first which result in listing for trading. That result in paying up to couple of hundred thousand bucks, and extra more coins to the team as compensation to keep up the price from being dump hard. This team has been at it for a long time and looks like they are quite busy developing the chain rather paying astonishing money to big exchanges for now. Direct listing in big exchange always require high quality tech, products, wide range of marketing activities, hype which is what Stegos team is currently trying to do while building a great blockchain for privacy and speed with lots of other cool stuffs. Maybe after achieving this they can make the final push of doing an IEO Marketing Event. Let's hope for the best now!

You can download v1.0 of the Stegos Desktop Wallet and get started from here: https://github.com/stegos/stegos-wallet/releases/tag/v1.0.

The Testnet Wallet's Synchronizing with the chain took a long time for most of the users but the Mainnet wallet takes only around a minute or two to install and the completion of the synchronizing with main Stegos blockchain. That's from my personal experience. FYI, existing users should delete their testnet chain data before installing.

good news, I haven't checked my testnet wallet. my question is do we need to swap? or on this mainnet we only need to recover accounts using our secret key which is created on Testnet?

You can download the mainnet wallet now and wait for the STG unlock schedule for those who participated in the private sale, hackathon. Early investors will receive their STG on 25th of November and the hackathon participants will get theirs in later. And of course, you will need your back up phrases to recover your wallet.

Great news, installed a new wallet v1.0 , using this phrase restored the old account testnet, everything works fine  ;)we are waiting for the appearance of coins earned on the hackathon

What Next?
This week we’re concentrating on sending everyone their STG coins. If we need any information from you, the team will be in touch directly.

Now that the core Stegos blockchain has been developed and tested, the team are moving on to implementing the key features needed to make Stegos the number one privacy coin. We’re starting by focusing on messaging, providing fully private communications for one-to-one and group chats. You’ll see this in the desktop wallet first, but the aim is to have on-chain mobile messaging ready in January.

We’re be making a big push to moderate and reward all the wonderful content you’ve submitted for the social media bounty. We’ll be showcasing the best efforts over the next few weeks. We’ll also be sharing instructions for how to complete KYC and claim your STG.

We’re committed to a rapid unlock schedule to give everyone access to the STG they’ve bought and earned as soon as possible. However, we also want to respect the original sale structure, give people time to set up their wallets and ensure the blockchain isn’t overloaded.

20th Nov: Mainnet launch: Users can create their mainnet wallets.
25th Nov: Locked tokens sent out: STG will appear in wallets but won’t be transactable. Locked tokens cannot be staked.
