Title: What's your plan if you bought around all time high?
Post by: anticonformist on April 23, 2019, 06:44:14 AM
I want to ask everyone who got into bitcoin towards the end of 2017 and is currently at a loss, like myself  :( What will you do when the market goes up and you get your money back. Sell or just keep holding?

I'm not one of those who bought bitcoin at the end of 2017, but if I'm in your position so I will sell some of the bitcoin when the price goes up over the price when I bought it and keep some to hold.
What makes me curious is, did you buy some more bitcoin when it is down to around $3,500-$4,000 or you just did nothing when it was down and stable on that price range?

That's the problem with the investments just going in and not having a complete game plan. If you manage to lose at around 20% of your original investment, I usually sell it at a loss because I know that I cannot afford more than that and of course, our emotions get in the way. It's sad to experience losses, but you have to know that you should risk what you afford to lose. That's always the rule when it comes to investments, and everybody should follow that IMO.

Those investors most likely already sold their coins and quit the market and a small portion of them might still be HODLING their coins to sell once the price goes back above $20k sometime in the future.

Luckily, I sold a big portion of my coins and earned huge profits during that period which is why I am in a happy place.

how many do you bought on that time? i had a chance to sell my btc back on 2017 but poor me keep HODL-ing (btw  and hope it will go further.
Shit happens whenever it keep found a new dip, i never try to sell it or exit the market instead. I keep HODL-ing and what makes it worst its not BTC that i had, its ALTS so it had bigger loss than it should be.
So it's like i start from the bottom again now but with different situation (it's actually easy to earn free money back when ICO is new and everywhere)

Why did you buy bitcoin in the first place? I assume, because you think bitcoin will rise higher than your buy price. If so, then be patient. If you don't have the patience, then sell your coins and spend your money somewhere else that you could use it more in a productive manner.

If you don't need the money right away, do not sell what you have bought, wait for the dip and buy the dip. This could average down the cost of your investment. Remember, you are not losing any money not unless you have sold at a bad price, don't be fooled by the price you are seeing right now,be patient, buy the dip and hodl.

What I should do is to buy more bitcoin now that price is low (if I have the money), then as for when my old loss get recovered, I will sell those amount because I would have been on gain it the amount I bought cheaper - that is, my new investment.

For traders like you who still holding your coins since the hyped happened, best to keep it as it is and wait, you already wait for such a long time so why bother to wait for some more, not unless you are willing to take the risk of regretting after the whole market bounce back and make a huge run, by reading the charts there's some good start from the industry, the market will recover and chances to go higher than the last High still possible.

The most obvious answer would probably just sell immediately and just forget about investing in bitcoin or any cryptocurrency at all. I don't think anyone in their sane mind who are stuck from the FOMO of the ATH would still think of profiting at this point. If anything, they'd just want to sell all and call it quits. I myself bought @ $6300, and I'm closer to that goal though I have already averaged down my buy to a good amount. I'm in the greens right now though if ever I bought during that insane overpriced point, I would have sold immediately and just call my losses and never look back.

For me I will still keep my bitcoin. I am not greedy but why I will settle for less when I can have more? We do not have to rush as long as we are ready to and we accept the challenge of a long terms investment. But I can say that, this action is full of risk. So this kind of strategies is only applicable to the brave investors that wants to make them capital more fruitfull.

Maybe if I invested in an all time high and it crash down so deep I would try to recover some by daily trading.
I would try to recover little by little instead of just waiting around besides I already lost too much I don't think it would matter anymore.

It's hard to say because I'm not on your foot but I think that you should hold a little more until you can finally gain a profit that you like before selling it. After holding for so long it is best that you should profit from holding than to sell it right away just to recover your losses, eventually, you will profit you just need to hold a little more.

It depends on the amount invested in BTC. If this amount is close to what you can afford to lose, then keep holding and wait until the price will be higher than that at which you bought. There are chances that we'll get there by December. But if you need the money for living right now, then sell little by little, once in a week, just to obtain the money you need, not more. Why not more? Because we can't know whether the price is going to be 50% higher that it is now in a week, and it's frustrating losing such a big percentage of your money.

It's a difficult choice. Because the price is unpredictable.
A few hours ago the price of bitcoin exceeded its record.
And we don't know what will happen next.
But for now I will definitely maintain bitcoin, waiting for prices to rise again because the opportunity for bitcoin prices continues to increase.

As long as you do not sell at $ 3200 there is no reason to sell for $ 6000.
The investment you made did not affect your daily life because you ignored it and did not sell even when there were no hopes for profits so as long as you do not care about the loss, sell at the biggest gain or forget the money to be valued at the highest value.
Just Hodling :D

You already felt on how was it to be in a loss. And what you must do is to start selling if you want to chase the capital to break even but if you don't need the money yet, you can hold and wait for further movement of the market.

Your life situation will tell you on what you must do. If you are in very tough situation and you need cash on hand then you have to start selling whenever the market goes on high.

if i have bitcoins bought at the all time high price i would keep holding until the price reaches a new all time high price, that way holding bitcoins for a long time will be paid, but it's hard to tell what price will be the new all time high, i guess i will sell it at profit so i wouldn't go home with a loss again.

Keep holding the coins we bought during all time high prices and wait till the next bull run to come. Meanwhile, we can make another investment while the price is below it. Try not to regret it too much by doing other stuffs is the good way to minimize the pressure.

I guess you'd have to hold? I didn't get anything during all time high, but to pump it that high alot of people would have had to!

May as well wait 5 years and see where you land. If you don't think something today will be worth as much in 5 years time, you shouldn't invest in it. Nothing to lose by holding to that principle now.

If we reach a new ATH i will probably cash out the half of my assets for liquidity reasons and keep the others in my wallet in order to diversify my actions.
We don't really know if we reach a new ATH when this is going to stop. It may continue to keep rising for a significant amount of time so I would definitely not want to miss this opportunity of making more money that will help me take better decisions in the future.

If you bought Bitcoin during its ATH $20,000, you should have continued to buy more when the price dropped sharply. At least it would have lowered your cost price per Bitcoin. If you don't have a budget then no problem, move on. Now if I were you, I'd think about a few things:

- Am I able to accept losses and can I afford it financially?
- Am I able to absorb the debts in a reasonable amount of time?
- Can I afford to wait until I reach a possible break even, and resell everything in order to at least recover my initial investment.
- Am I still confident that the price of Bitcoin could go up?

The only thing about the last 2 points is that you have to remember that you are speculating on a situation (which may or may not happen)
I think it depends on everyone's personal situation and mindset. I would wait to recover at least my funds but I would also set a point where I would to admit the losses and sell with a deficit.

I did not buy bitcoin when the all time rise happened towards to end of 2017, but if you ask me since those that bought at that time can afford the patients to wait till this moment and eventually till when the price reach the amount they bought at that time, I don't think it will be a big deal to remain positive and wait till you get some profits on your investment. But that is a hard decision any way.

I will sell for sure and wait for it to go low. If there is an up there would be down trend sooner or later. So, it is wise to not hold coins in previous all time high IMO. Bitcoin in past years has showed the cycle of price movement. There won't be a constant uptrend for a long time. So, utilize your funds wisely. If you are too concerned about making money by hodling then, just keep a percentage of your funds for hodling and see how it goes.

I will still just hold my coins and wait for the right time to sell, so I will just keep on holding my coins than to lose a lot, bitcoin price drops so hard and we all know that so for sure if you buy with the last all time high then you lose a lot today for sure.

I will still hold the altcoins and bitcoin that I bought since 2017 in my wallet, and I don't have a problem with that. I don't want to sell it right now because that means, I only get lost, and if the coin can increase in this year, then I will get a big loss later.

No problem if you cannot make a profit from the coin now because you don't sell the coin and only wait for the price to increase later, so you still have a chance to recover the money that you used to buy that coins.

But I still buy bitcoin whenever it's down so I can add more bitcoin in my wallet and I can hope that when bitcoin price increase then I can make a big profit later.

I think everyone that bought bitcoin back in 2017 when bitcoin hit its ATH have now already sold everything and are long gone from this crypto world. For those who are still holding the bitcoin they bought back in 2017 , they will probably sell it as soon as the price reaches 20k again and then never come back to cryptocurrencies again since for most of them it was just a nightmare.

you have to have been very lucky to have bought bitcoin in that very short time when price was near the ATH because it was indeed short and the number of "new" people who came into bitcoin is a handful.

as for what to do, you must have had a reason for holding those coins this long. if not then you must have found a reason. and if not then it is not too late to start making up your mind, try researching more about what bitcoin is and see if you can find those "reasons" why bitcoin is a lot more valuable than these silly prices. and if you can't then just sell and say goodbye.

The most important thing is not to sell Bitcoin now when you are at a loss. At the next Bull-run, probably Bitcoin's price will be higher than the maximum price reached at the end of 2017.
However, to be sure of profit, you can still buy a Bitcoin now, and when the price reaches $ 20,000 again, you can sell both and you will make a profit.
There are many ways to make a profit, it's important not to withdraw your investment when you are at a loss.

anticonformist, your investment was unwise and at the wrong time, no doubt about it. But when you saw that price reached its peak and that the situation is changed you could sell it with minimal loss. The fact that you have not yet sold your coins tells us that you still believe that someday you'll will return your invested money, and very probably make some profit.

What you need to know that every new ATH is bigger than the previous one, and my advice is to wait in case you do not need money. Last ATH is result of 20x increase in price, and if next can be at least 10x from current price you can double your investment ;)

But about your problem I believe that you stand to hold more than a year then why sell when you only got back your money?if i were you then wait for another set of time to hold

I did not by Bitcoin during the ATH, but I was saving some amount of it and did not sell it then, thus losing quite a lot. I also bought Ripple at ATH price, but it was only a couple of coins. I exchange some crypto for fiat regularly, but I now have a certain amount I am not withdrawing until the price reaches $20k or close again.
Holding means that what's been lost can be regained, so for now it seems to be a good strategy.

I think I will sell 50 o 60 percent of it and will still hold the others. I already get over with the lost I had, I have extra cash now and you know what? I am still buying little by little in the current market state. So far the outcome is good and hopefully this will continue. This the days I have missed so much when most of the coins are in green. If I run out of cash in the upcoming weeks, gotta sell my gold accessories and add it to my BTC holdings.

Hold and move on, if its bitcoin don’t lose hope but if its a shitcoin i can say its hard to decide. All time high is not a good time to invest, this is the reason why we should take care investing during the bull trend. Learn how to trade and you can see your time to buy.

So you are holding until the price returns to the previous ATH? I say hold more until you at least have a 20% profit. You waited 2 years already, another year or two won't hurt.

But my advice to you:
Buy more right now while the price is still down. This will give you a good price for your average cost in your investments. This means you do not have to wait for the price to reach the previous ATH to realize a profit. If you buy at the current price, you only need to wait until the price to reach 12500 to be breakeven.

Well a lot of us feel doubt whether to sell or hold but as of now I keep on holding it since I believe that the market will recover soon, most of us are still expecting because it will take a lot of time but if you have a specific goal then you will wait patiently even if it is risky since I know that it is worth it at the end. Aside from that in this kind of situation it is better to hold than to sell because you don't know if there is an opportunity that is waiting for you and we don't want to miss the chance that's why waiting and risking is better than regretting well we can't actually blame people who loves to hold their bitcoin they just want to avoid losing money because some of us had some experience like this and we don't want it to happen again that's why holding it is one of the key to avoid doing the same mistake.

If I were in your shoes, I would consider selling at least 50% of the coins and let the other half sit and collect dust until I regain its value. I mean let's face it, purchasing bitcoins on its all time glory is suicide for your investments especially if you are considering short-term investments. The other half, I would develop a strategy wherein I would utilize them for day-trading for accumulation of small profit margins.

I bought dome amount of hundred dollars in the end of 2017 and I lose more money on that year.  But I confident the value of the bitcoin will rise so I decided to hold and keep until my capital back and if see the movement will hitted very high more for dure I hold it more years again.

The potential of bitcoin is otherworldly, meaning there is always that opportunity that it might break the all time high somewhere in the future. But that would be the problem as we cannot predict accurately when that specific timeframe would come. Regardless, learn from that experience and develop a plan where you could regain the value of your loss.

seeing the situation might be very good. when the money we invest returns, I think that can make people feel good. but, most people use money specifically for investment. if you really have believed in this development, I think holding back longer will be a pretty good thing. but, if you don't want to lose it, selling it will also be the right choice.

I will definitely sell to be safe and to get what I invested back. Whether it goes up or down, at least I'm not at loss 'coz I've already retrieve my investment. It's better to play safe than to be greedy and feel sorry again. Remember that you've had enough loss (time, energy, possible profit had you invested it in a more feasible investment) waiting for your investment back. Now, if you are not confident about your decision, study the movement of the market closely if it'll continue its pump pattern. But though it continues, surely there be a pullback, though small. Wait for it, then buy some.

Good question with a very short answer. Although i bought after the All Time High(ATH), and sold them out during a rise in January, 2018 which make me loose some amount but still appreciate the price. Those who bought during the ATH should simply hodl or stand the chances of loosing their investment. Waiting for the market to start, will be a better option for these categories.

Those who bought during the ATH should simply hodl or stand the chances of loosing their investment. Waiting for the market to start, will be a better option for these categories.

You would have regret it if you didn't sell. I didn't bought at the ATH but its unfortunate that I didn't also sell since I was hoping the bear market will just slow down in several weeks but turned out it extended up to a year. I was able to sell few but still regret that I didn't sell it all. For a newbie though who doesn't even know where the market is going, he might just hold it and wait til the market reverse. If you didn't see it in the future like what google and facebook did before the dumps happen then holding might just be the worse thing to do.

Simple, try other money by finding a job. Then try to learn at past what the reason you get lose by investing at the cryptocurrency, after that find your own method to investing and make your self more better than before.

I did not know bitcoin before the 2017 and I was not the lucky one who bought it when the price was low. But now if the price of bitcoin is $ 3,000, it is a good time to buy because I do not think it will go down any more. When the price rises, sell

Hey since you’re holding since 2017 I feel you’ll be better of selling your coins, and once you have used all you need you can come back and purchase them again. I feel people should understand that they may have goals in life which can only be achieved using money. Also in your case if you have sufficient money and do not need this money then you can continue to hold your coins, only you alone can decide what you wish to do with your coins.

Even if you havebeen holding Bitcoin at a loss and you bought it on the top Bitcoin has given you a lot of opportunities to still profit from it all the way down to the 3,000$ level. Shorting BTC is the easiest way to profit from it and that involves you cutting you losses and buying it back again. Because really just by holding it at its current all time hogh is the worst thing you can do as you will just be waiting for the same price just to break even. If you have shorted BTC then maybe you have accumulated more of it by now.

You are one of the great investors because you are still able to keep holding your coins to date (since 2017), I think you are one of them. Looking at it, I am sure that you have certain sales targets, so stay afloat with what you believe in and unless you have needed money suddenly for your daily life.

People need to brace themselves for a wall of selling once bitcoin breaches the all time high.

We saw the same pattern when the 2013/15 bear market ended. People who had held through the trough sold as soon as they had broken even, they were so relieved to get their money back. Of course that was the wrong thing to do, but the price being underwater for several years does strange things to the human psyche.

Very, very curious. There is no doubt bitcoin will surpass current price and as you state, all time high means currently any price higher than 20K usd. So if you have plan it's even more curious, why the hell will you invest in bitcoin when price will exceed 20k? Any idea? If you are extremalist, then yeah, buy at 20K and plan how to avoid going bankrupt when price starts to fall.

The only option is to keep waiting until the market recover, if you cannot have profit, you can be sue to have your investment  back, I feel it is still wise to invest now when the price is still low, before 2019/2020 bull run commence, don't give up even it seems you lost out in 2017.

A lot of people probably got in at 20k because they thought it was going to continue plowing upwards as it had done for the months leading up to the $20k spike. I know that there was a lot of buzz on social media where people had dumped a ton of money in at the ATH because they all thought that it was going to keep going higher, even in excess of $100k. That, and with all the bullcrap that was happening with Bitconnect, people probably felt like there was nothing that could go wrong. Then the market happened, and everything came tumbling down.

A lot of people that bought in that high up and still hold onto it are probably bag holders from a year ago, and now waiting on trying to recover their losses.

Ah well, that's what happens when people get involved in something too good to be true.

Hold and move on, if its bitcoin don’t lose hope but if its a shitcoin i can say its hard to decide. All time high is not a good time to invest, this is the reason why we should take care investing during the bull trend. Learn how to trade and you can see your time to buy.

Frankly speaking,i will rather hold if i bought Bitcoin around ATH. Although many investors never appreciate the power of Hold but categorically, holding pays more than others strategies, so, hold for a long term will be the best of these group from 2017. Selling at this point; when the entire cryptocurrency market is yet to recover fully.

Let me tell you that if you are looking for short-term profit then cut-loss is not always a bad thing. You can sell in loss and buy other potential coins to restore your fund. But, if you are not really looking for profit, then you can let it and try to forget your lose because no matter how long it will take, Bitcoin price will be back and there will be a new all-time high. This is what always be my plan. Enjoy!

I would rather hold it for more years if i could support myself alone with my money in a job, why not? It is considered as an investment but in a long-term, since i bought it during the ATH of Bitcoin. But if you do need the money and you got the price back, you should have sold it already and try to buyback again when the price is cheaper than the last price that you bought it.

I'm underwater on some buys since I dollar-cost average but I think BTC is a good long-term buy as a store of value. So the market volatility is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. If BTC eventually becomes a global reserve currency, it should easily blow past its all-time highs.

People who buy Bitcoin in 2017 have indeed bought it at a high price range and they will definitely suffer losses when they sell it at this time. So all they need to do is wait, because I am very optimistic that prices will increase again. At least it can reduce the risk of large losses. When Bitcoin can reach a high price in 2017, it can also be done in the future.

Very few users go out of patience and sell experiencing a big loss on the investment. When it comes to bitcoin the risk always gets to go along, majority keep hold and some make use into trading so that at least some small earnings could be made. If I've made an investment by the ath I would surely consider holding and trading with the respective investment.

I didn't invest in Bitcoin when its price was around $20k or $17k but from the information I have gained throughout 2018 and 2019, investors who still had their Bitcoin when the price dropped from $20k to about $10k decided to invest in altcoins. This switch helped a good number of investors to obtain about 70% of their initial lost. But some sold their Bitcoin at the dip just to avoid losing all the capital invested into Bitcoin. Currently, I have observed that people who lost their money in Bitcoin are now back investing into Bitcoin again with the hope of gaining their lost back

I'll take my profit first and the rest I'll keep on my wallet. Yeah it's horrible when someone bought bitcoin on ATH 2017 ago. And I can feel too, but I didn't bought bitcoin but I bought ETH and Tron at that time. I bought when ETH price $1200 and you can compare with the current price and imagine how I felt the loss it is. However, this is that I shouldn't feel a regret I should have a lot of motivation to pass it and I should have a lot of patience to face it and I can do it so far.

I never brought when the market was at ATH either but if such occasion occur the best thing I can do is to hold till it Bitcoin halving bullish market.
With that been said, only and inexperience trader will brought Bitcoin during the all time high not to mention selling at loss price or switch their holding to altcoin which are highly manipulated, usually follow Bitcoin trend when the market is in bullish state.

You are not the only one who was stucked and bought btc and some coins at a high price. Sometimes I do regret selling them when it recovered 50% then buy it today to at least get back what i lose but I did not do that and i prefered to HOLD. Keep on holding even if it takes years. It is the safest way to do.

If you know how to trade then try trading the half of it by buying some strong altcoins. You will missed a lot of opportunities if you only hodl your entire amount of bitcoin for another bullrun or all-time high. Although it is known to be risky, trading gives you opportunity to earn what you have failed to earn when you bought your during its all-time high. That is also my plan because nobody know when will bitcoin repeat and surpass its ATH last December 2017.

The correct word to use is IF, not WHEN. I got some on the rise, it was looking good, but then... pop*. Was listening too much to the hype. Glad I only put in a few hundred dollars worth. So, to answer the question: IF Bitcoin reaches the bubble burst price point and keeps going, or even if it reaches to a point where I'd be making a profit, I may consider cashing out at a point where I'd be making up my investment + some profit, and leave the rest in for speculative purposes, cashing out at appropriate intervals. And as profits would be pulled out: tithe, charity, and invest in something probably other than Bitcoin (maybe some in BTC, depends on how it looks).

Have a great day,
The Cyberius team.

of course I don't want to lose, at the end of 2017, the BTC peak reached $ 20K. if you sell now. then you are stupid, and that is a very bad choice.

open your eyes and you should see the market. and now, traders are more focused on the BTC market. BTC continues to create bullish markets slowly. but I am sure that holding is a good decision.

What you need to know that every new ATH is bigger than the previous one, and my advice is to wait in case you do not need money. Last ATH is result of 20x increase in price, and if next can be at least 10x from current price you can double your investment ;)

I pretty much agree with this statement. Indeed during its whole history Bitcoin always surpassed previous ATHs, and there are no reasons to think that it will not happen again. IMO we are still far from the point when it would be right to say that Bitcoin can't go higher. I would agree if some one said that when BTC was $300k, but not lower than that.

As long as you do not sell at $ 3200 there is no reason to sell for $ 6000.
Agree.

If you're still holding then no reason to sell.
Just hope you bought some below 4k to lower your average buy price.

There might be another scenario in case you've lowered your average buy price by buying x2 (or x10) volume, then you can sell a part of your actives when the current price will be above your buy price.

What?  That is a huge number of a loss if you do that thing.
If that is not urgent need you can hold and wait until your profit was there, in this situation you can apply to buy low and sell high strategy of earning in bitcoin. Nevertheless, Bitcoin is not an instant income if you are going to hold at the shortened time, you need more time to hold to see the real profit. OP was right just kept holding until your profit was there.

Holding half while you use the other half to trade is never the right decision if someone brought at ATH price of which the price is later below the price of purchase. The best thing to do in such situation is to hold all the coin while you start another new investment or trading at the dump price which will be the best means to make the profit you said.

For me, more than a year of waiting for the price of Bitcoin to go back to ATH is too long and if you invested that money or Bitcoin in something else, you could have recovered your loss already. I know someone who we're able to recover in 6 months after the price of Bitcoin started to go down starting 2018. He aimed for just 1.5% per day profits on all his investments after selling below his buy price of Bitcoin.

Some of the bitcoins that I have with you and at that time hope to continue to increase but the reality decreases dramatically, and what I have done until now I still hold it and consider it as a limitless long-term investment waiting for prices to bounce back to the initial price before me have it.
and I also took advantage of the opportunity when in 2018 the price of bitcoin was under $ 4000 to buy it and add the bitcoin losses that I had before, and now bitcoin is slowly starting to rise and I have gained a little profit, but I will continue to wait for bitcoin to rise more high.
so for me there was no problem with the incident because I think if there is a decline there will definitely be an increase, the most important thing is to be patient to wait and stay optimistic.

At the end of the year 2017 , the price of bitcoin started to decline which means you bought your coins at a low price and if ever you continue hodling until today , you already earn a profit because the value of bitcoin has now greatly recovered  . now best thing to do is to sell for a sure profit or sell some so that you still have some coins left to hodl since the price is still expected to grow  . you can opt to buy and invest more when the value declines a little bit   .

I know a lot of my friends who also bought during the bull run, they just came in late but I know they are not selling because I'm advising them that crypto will once again recover and we will be back to its high or have a new high. Once investors will understand that crypto investing requires patience, they would do it because the development continues and as adoption increases eventually a new bull run will arrive and price will pump.

That can be a very hard question to deal with most especially if one is a newbie in the world of investment and is not an experienced one where one may have alternatives. I can understand the feeling of being lost as I am a newbie too, so I am sympathizing with those who bought cryptocurrency at their highest and is now confused on what to do -- either to wait for months or let go. In this case, and this is just based on my opinion, if you are planning to use the money that you can get from converting them with something else or another business then maybe this is the best time to convert them but if you have nothing alternative use then maybe you can just wait for a little longer time.

if you had bought Bitcoin at the all time high level then you should continue to HODL and wait for the price to rise till that level. This will happen eventually by 2023 or before. then sell some to square even and HODL the rest till you make good profit. This strategy I understand does require a lot of patience. But in the end you will earn the fruits of profit. So stay Calm and HODL.

We don't know how long we should be keep on holding and I'm afraid that they can't manage to do it.
We are too far from 2017 ATH and we are more than a year of being in bear which I feel that it is not good to hold at all, I may sacrifice to loss few buck rather than to keep on waiting to nowhere. It could be better to diversify our portfolio and start over again.

I want to ask everyone who got into bitcoin towards the end of 2017 and is currently at a loss, like myself  :( What will you do when the market goes up and you get your money back. Sell or just keep holding?
I didn't buy Bitcoin at its peak but I bought some Altcoins at its peak and I have lost 99% of its value from $10 per coin now down to $0.10+ dollars per coin but no regrets in my part because I only invested the money that I afford to lose. What will I do when the market goes up and reaches the price at the time when I bought it? Definitely, I would sell some of it if I needed money and hodl most of it. We have different kinds of "investment plans" but we are on one goal, to make our investments multiple times fold. :D

Luckly my loss not too deep that when 2018 early i was decide cut loss because i was so worried the price gradually decrease but if you still have bitcoin which is bought from 2017 and still hold until today then i think there is no way besides hold it for much longer and since market situations were getting better this year i think possibly the price will high again than now

If you are not sure about what to do about your losses, do this:

Take two sheets of paper.

1. On the first sheet, write the following:

  • Starting investment on <date of initial investment>: <total amount of investment>
  • Loss/gain: <total gain/loss>
  • Current investment on <today's date>: <current value of investment>

2. On the second sheet, write the following:

  • Starting investment on <today's date>: <current value of investment>

3. Throw out the first sheet.

You have what you have, and no plan or strategy or rationalization or accounting gymnastics can change that. Move on.

You're welcome.

I bought during that period too.
My strategy has been to see and buy back at a lower price compared to the price I sold.
I think it's better than just holding it and doing nothing waiting for the market recovery.

In a few years you will laugh at how high the price of Bitcoin is. Guess what? Many people bought at $1,000 during the previous peak, and they held, and now they have way more return on their investment. So the answer is just hodl and you will make money in the long run!

Yes, but sometimes your method can also cause damage.  The fact of the matter is that in the world of cryptocurrency there is no concrete path to success. You need to look for it.

I didn't buy around the all time high (quite the opposite actually). But if i did i would sell my bitcoin during one of the small pumps we have been having recently. It is never a good idea to buy into crypto because of hype. If OP does not want to sell his BTC for fiat they could diversify and buy some altcoins or simply keep holding the BTC hoping the price breaks $20,000 again some point in the future.

The last lot that bought at all time high of $1200 in late 2013 had to wait until late 2016 to sell at a profit so if BTC is to have a new ATH it probably wont be until the early 2020's.

Of course, if you purchased a cryptocurrency at the peak of its price at the end of 2017, then one of the best ways to save your invested funds will be their further retention until they again rise to the previous record price. What to do with this cryptocurrency further should depend on how promising the blow job itself or token is how successful their project is.
However, just holding coins is not the most successful method of making a profit. It is best to combine cryptocurrency with partial trading with significant decreases and increases in its price.

As soon as i was able to sell the coins i bought at a higher price, i will divide my capital into four and start investing level by level, leaving some money on standby in case of deep where i can buy and recover with ease.

If they still have it, Strong hands will hold it to a new high.  (most probably sold at a loss because they are possibly the worst at trading)

I buy and sell bitcoin depending on the actual conditions that occur in the market, whether they can provide profits in the short or long term, the point's we must be able to see their price movements even further before we make a decision.

I think this depends on our financial condition at that time, if it's stable, then I will leave my bitcoin there and wait until the price rises at a significant level by continuing to hold until an indefinite time limit, and the chance to gain profit big most likely will come true.

It depends on how high the price went and how badly it is crashing. If the price sky rockets all of a sudden without any reason and I have bought at the peak, then after seeing the price crash, i would instantly sell whatever I have bought to reduce my losses. If there is a clear sign that the price was manipulated I would have done the same, that is sell out everything.
People if they wan't they can keep holding the coins to recover but until then will have to have patience.

It depends on how much at a loss you are. If you held from ATH all until now you are still in deep shit and I envy your strong hand. Now it's a bad idea to sell because we got a golden cross which means the end of the bear market. The price can go up and down but it will eventually go back up after this maybe in May we'll go to 6000 dollars.

If you are at a small loss don't worry about it and if the loss is big try to buy more to get even faster when the price goes up to 6000.

::) I'am still waiting for it, I gain nothing last 2017 I still have some of my coin and kept holding it, and still waiting for the right time for the market to go up, or else I will lose all my coin if I sell it all with the condition of bitcoin...well good for those who already have it maybe they're now rejoicing of what their profit..

If this happen to me, i think to recover losses, i will do trade and double my bitcoin to recover on USD value. But before make trade decision, we should choose legit coin and have good trading skill because price fluctuation very high

Well, am going to sell some holding and never will I sell all, when bitcoin awareness wasn't as much as we have now, it went ATH, I can't really say what caused the price crash, but as we stand now, if the bitcoin ever touches $20k, it means something must have token it there and that would be adoption, I doubt one will ever see it to buy that low again as we have now. Many eyes are on bitcoin including government of different states, so selling all position could mean a doom. Just my proposed strategy.
