Title: Newbie mistake - transaction stuck due to low fee
Post by: triphippie on April 23, 2019, 01:30:07 PM
Hey guys,

I hope you can help me. I have made newbie mistake, I didn't know about the fee system, and the fee was set too low by default, and now I have a transaction which is stuck with no confirmations for more than 24 hours. I didn't know about the fee system until afterwards, when I started researching, so was not trying to be cheap.  :)

The transaction is b23e4ae81597eefc30eceb7b127c015afcd46efbf0b4cc88d535d5ee2e511950

The fee was set at 4.648 sat/B as far as I can tell.

Is there any way I can get this mess sorted out? I have tried the viabtc transaction accelerator, but it doesnt work, because the fee is too low.

What are my options at this point to try and get the transaction picked up and confirmed? Would also like to know if I can be sure the transaction will eventually go thru, if I wait long enough, or will it expire at some point?

Hopefully someone can help me.

Decoding your transaction and looking at your nSequence (https://github.com/bitcoin/bips/blob/master/bip-0125.mediawiki) shows that you have RBF enabled, or that your inputs are eligible for RBF...

What wallet did you use to broadcast your transaction?

You should try to do an RBF (Replace-By-Fee).

(Please google it if you don't know how to, as there are tons of tutorials like this one, http://coinour.com/index.php/how-to-apply-replace-by-fee-to-save-the-bitcoin-transaction-fees/)

It will probably get confirmed sooner later, but if it doesn't, you can always rebroadcast it (with higher fees).

Alternatively, if you control the inputs outputs of the the transaction that is yet to be confirmed, you can do a CPFP transaction.
(Again, google this for a guide on how to exactly do it.)

I am using localbitcoins.com as my wallet, not sure if thats what you're asking - again I am a total newbie. :-)

I dont believe they support RBF, cant find it anywhere on the platform.

I believe you mean output... as input for a CPFP transaction

since you're using localbitcoins.com wallet, then your option is limited
if address 32EPN... is your own address (own its private key), you can try CPFP as AdolfinWolf suggested above
use google or search this subforum for detail explanations about it, there should be plenty info around

Your only option is CPFP. See https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Fee_bumping. Use Electrum if you want really simple step (see the "I received the stuck transaction" on Electrum part). Don't forget to use the address that you control.

I like the new blockchair "priority" tag...

Really gives you a sense of where your transaction is in the current "queue"... almost 37000th out of 52000... that transaction isn't going anywhere in a hurry. :-\

Basically... your options are "wait".

Most likely it will confirm at some point... really depends on whether or not the queue of unconfirmed transactions drops enough that transactions around your fee level start getting included in blocks.

Given the current price pump... it might take a few days.

Okay, right now it's at around 7000/21000, will it have to reach 1 before its confirmed?

Not necessarily.
Blocks contain ~2500 transactions currently.

So if it is less than ~2500 / X, you could theoretically assume it will get included into the next block.

But note that this is also just an estimation. Your transaction is not guaranteed to be confirmed within the next block if the priority shows < 2500 / X.
That is not even guaranteed if it shows 1 / X (which would mean your TX has the highest priority of all).

Tried to push it for you on the viabitcoin free transaction accelerator at 15:02 (UK time) & it Submissions are beyond limit. Please try again later.

That means literally between 15:00 & 15:02 lots of people have been trying to get their transactions confirmed. The mempool is quite full at the moment. There are currently 32,xxx unconfirmed transactions which is moderately high. I’ve seen it at over 100k unconfirmed transactions during the spam attacks though so you will get it confirmed.....eventually.

Try & enter the hash at bang on the hour 16:00 -

https://pool.viabtc.com/tools/txaccelerator/

The current recommended best transaction fee is 87 sats per byte. Your transaction was 4 sats per byte oops.

For future ref use this tool to calculate your fee - https://btc.com/stats/unconfirmed-tx

You would have had the same even at 15:00:20
OP needs an atomic clock and a lot of luck. Or patience until the mempool frees up.

The free viabtc accelerator does not work for me, because the fee is too low. I tried it already and was rejected because of a too low fee. Now I have tried using their paid accelerator service, hopefully that will work. Has anyone tried it and if so, how did it work?

I think you just need to put the TXID then click the paid service then you need to login now it will ask for payment with their address after you pay you to need to wait for minutes or hours for your transaction to confirm.

Anyway, let me ask if this is your transaction https://www.blockchain.com/btc/tx/b23e4ae81597eefc30eceb7b127c015afcd46efbf0b4cc88d535d5ee2e511950
You will no longer need an accelerator because you already have 20 confirmation which is enough to see your bitcoin in your wallet.

Never try there paid service but what I used was bitaccelerate last week when I have the same situation. I don't know if localbitcoin allow user to input tx fee but they did always check the mempool (https://jochen-hoenicke.de/queue/#0,24h) status before sending transaction.

The paid service worked great, half an hour later my transaction was confirmed. :-)

And just to confirm that it was indeed ViaBTC:

Included In Blocks   573036 ( 2019-04-24 16:04:02 + 3,108 minutes )
...
Relayed By   ViaBTC

"only" 3108 minutes... :o hope the paid acceleration fee wasn't toooo horrific! Given you were only sending ~0.016 BTC (~US$90) :-\

That's because he only decided to use the paid accelerator almost after 2days after being broadcasted.
It got confirmed approximately 300minutes+ after the paying for the service. ViaBTC has been winning less blocks these days I noticed.
