Title: Crypto-friendliest country in the world?
Post by: bobsav2121 on April 30, 2019, 11:04:28 AM
I've been wondering for a while now which country in the world is the most "crypto-friendly" if that makes any sense... and I don't mean it with a negative connotation. I really wish to find out which country supports crypto and sees crypto as a potential way of taking over fiat. Any suggestions?

Edit: I found this cool article about Malta being super crypto friendly? https://cryptotradernews.com/cryptocurrency/why-crypto-millionaires-love-switzerlands-taxation-policies/ (https://cryptotradernews.com/cryptocurrency/why-crypto-millionaires-love-switzerlands-taxation-policies/) Although most of these perks only apply to millionaires?

Estonia.

I heard that Estonia is a highly digitized state, where you can even vote online, or start a business, make new documents etc.
I hope other countries will follow their example.
Do you know what about paying taxes on crypto earnings?

Malta to me still remains the cryptocurrency friendlies country in the world with their recent approval of virtual finance agents which is not far from crypto adoption and digital assets usage. They are also on the line to have the world first cryptocurrency regulations and being first to become the country to have regulated crypto coins if the sec process go through and approval is given.

First of all you should consider what is a crypto friendly country for you. In most EU countries and in US you won't get to jail (or even your bank accounts locked) for having some crypto coins. It is also possible to make some crypto payments. And it is totally legal. But for some reason people are still searching for friendlier country.
I would also suggest that US would be a better country simply because if you are looking for a place, with a developed economy and financial markets, that are constantly implementing different instruments then it would be US.

Estonia.
By the way Estonia is probably the most IT friendly country in the world.
People are leaving it and the government is struggling to use different IT things in everyday life.

But at the same time people holding Swiss bank accounts are considered criminals for money laundering so how it's crypto-friendly when it is considered illegal to hold money in those bank accounts?

I know UAE is not crypto-friendly but they literally charge 0 taxes even if you have millions in your bank account and don't even ask much questions.

Southeast Asian countries are , in my opinion, the crypto friendliest countries in the world. Some are having stricter policies (I'm not sure if Singapore is part of it) but Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, etc. are good examples.

i think Japan is the most friendliest country for Crypto market. Japan not only allow its usage but also regulated it and put it under the tax net through which they can eliminate the negative effects and everyone will be able to use it legally.

Doesn't the UAE only do this for certain businesses? I didn't know this was something that extended to individual peoples incomes and such, just thought it was a tax break as a way to attempt to bring businesses (and therefore jobs) into certain 'economic free' sectors. Which is just a fancy way of saying that they're not going to be charging tax in that area for reasons of economic development.

This was long back. Now these people too have begun to levy taxation in different forms. They aren't crypto friendly, as of now they are technology focused. Particularly they keep themselves into the development of integrating each and everything with the blockchain.

Alright, that's what I was thinking anyway.

Not surprised to see a nation which is attempting to be startup friendly -- as that does make sense, though being Crypto friendly may make you a target of certain nations that are already in control of the current banking system. If you know what I mean.

Is anyone from Estonia around? What makes this country in particular so crypto friendly? I read they are very IT friendly though.

Cyprus is becoming a bit of a crypto start up hub for the European region: https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/325502

It is hard to say what country in the world is the most friendly to crypto, but each region seems to have at least a couple of countries pushing into that space with favourable legislation and regulations, such as Estonia, Singapore and Cyprus.

Estonia have indeed try in terms of improvement of they IT technology and that have open doors for cryptocurrency activities but at that due to high cost of electricity the mining farms may not perform to expectations in Estonia. But aside the cost of power I think the country is one of the crypto friendly country.

Ok, but what are UAE's tax rates then for crypto currency? I haven't found any information about this online and hence thought it is the same as their taxes for salaried people which is 0.

That was a total guess. As you can see from the other responses, places like estonia or cyrpus or singapore are more crypto friendly in terms of regulation and taxation arrangements.

1. Estonia
2. Lithunia
3. Latvia
4. Switzerland
5. Japan
6. South Korea
7. Malta
8. Singapore
9. Germany
10. Philippines

That's currently the list on my mind, obviously not in particular order though. And I'm sure those countries are far more advance that others because they know that significant effect of being a friendly crypto nation.

Why those countries in that list? When you say friendly, do you mean the country government is open to implement crypto based companies or because the population is involved in crypto?

I think Switzerland, Malta and Estonia, they are also very liberal about taxes and ease of leading business like startups and high tech companies, other countries should learn from them.

I think it's Japan who take positively about the blockchain technology. I've saw an documentary before in which most of the Japanese are very hype in using it and they even used it as a part of their daily routine.

They even have their own regulatory system that separates their usual regulatory board. Therefore the 16 Big crypto exchanges in their country can have their own set of rules.

In my humble opinion, Malta is the most cryptocurrency friendly country in the world. Of course there are many other that embrace the blockchain innovation and allow companies develop their products.
Malta is also friendly not only to blockchain companies but also to cryptocurrency enthusiasts and individuals that want to be involed in the industry.

Those countries on the list are doing something to adopt crypto currency payment system and also supporting crypto exchanges with regulations so they also can get benefits from it.

Where have you been living under the rock? You haven't heard those nations before? Those countries promoted ICO project and has given lots of tax incentives to any company that are willing to go to their country.

So obviously, the government has welcome crypto and population are also in crypto investing and trading.

I think the term amigbale can be considered by several definitions, since friendly is a very global term, for my friend in terms of crypto is that it can be operated without any prohibitions or laws with crypto, that is, if the technology of bitcoin was made to take advantage of the fact that no one should interfere neither governments nor banks, friendly it becomes that they should not even charge to use or to do business with crypto.

So far some country that has agreed to work with crypto have always come out with some type of tax, which, for me, is not friendly.

Friendly in the sense that it is accepted but you must pay tax? In a decentralized technology? That's like going to a party where you have to pay for what you consume, but do not charge tickets. Many people accept the option that everything is being handled well, when they can not even accept bitcoins in their own business because they can run the risk of going to jail if there are no permits granted by government entities, that is not friendly.
