You protect them by keeping them on paper wallets, hardware wallets or cold storages. You don't use them on computers that are connected to the Internet or keep them on web wallets or exchanges.
You make sure that your private keys and seeds are safely tucked away from prying eyes and are never stored or used online.

We all have our own ways to protect our digital coins.
I'm actually keeping my coins in our local wallet which I find safer to use while I'm keeping some of it on my hard wallet.
I have never kept my funds in an exchange to get rid of hackers. We all know that hackers could also break the security system no matter how popular an exchange is.

Actually I think we have a two ways which are completely safe. Paper wallet and hardware wallet. I am using both. I created paper wallets and bought a Ledger. I am holding some of my coins in paper wallet
, some of in Ledger.

I think we should remind again about exchanges. All exchanges include some risk. It is not your money which you are holding in exchanges. Be carefull please.

I used to keep my funds in different exchanges before but because of some hacking cases, I have learned to keep it in my nano ledger. Protecting our digital coins is necessary because of the fact that hackers could steal it in just a single moment. No matter how hard we keep our private keys, hackers have their own ways do pursue stealing so we have to be wiser than them.

You can lessen up the risk on losing your coins if you do tend to store them on cold, hardware, wallets which you do posses its private keys.
Keeping them safe into these storages is much more ideal rather than on storing it up on 3rd parties or simply you don't have access on its pk
like on exchangers and other web wallets. If you care too much on your holdings then better to follow this out.

I'm avoiding visiting and downloading anything with those unpopular sites that might contain some malware that could penetrate to my PC. Prevention is the best to way to start protecting your own coins and awareness will help you.

As for storing my coins, I'm keeping it to a wallet that I'm holding the private keys. I had an argument with someone today and said that arguments with 'you don't hold your bitcoins if you don't have the private keys' is low IQ one. Well, at least I proved that when we give advice to others about keeping their coins to a wallet that they hold the private keys, they aren't actually listening.

I am using hardware wallet to keep it safe from hackers.
And also I always check the sites that I visit or open cause it may have some virus or just another phishing site.
I always double check the link to know that I am only using the orignal website so my information like username and password would be safe.

I protect my crypto by using only the most trusted hardware wallet Nano Ledger.
I use it to keep my funds secure since one of the best trading site has been hack we really need to be the one to take care or hold our crypto.
It is our responsibility to make sure that our crypto or money is safe so only use the trusted wallets.

The recent hack reminds us not to store any single amount on our exchange wallets, be practice to transfer our coins right after we do trading.

While living a lowkey life also helps us to keep safe our wallets, don't post anything on social media that you have huge amount so no one be tempted to hack your laptop or mobile phone. It may sound cliche but this sometimes happen to those who brags everything.

The rest of the ways to secure our coins are already given above.

If you are talking about our digital coins that are considered as cryptocurrency, the best to do are protecting our private keys first, never ever share it to anyone. Avoid storing it on exchanges, such as centralized exchange, it's very risky because you don't have your private keys when you store it on exchanges. And you should protect your devices, keep away on malware and viruses.

leaving one's digital assets on ecxchanges is never a bad idea though, it eliminate unneccessary transaction fees being incured from moving tokens from exchanges to private walllets, but if one must leave one's token on exchanges, neccessary steps must be taken to prevent hack and thefts, such measures includes settling up 2fa and jealously guiding one's seeds and private keys.

I personally utilize a Trezor to store majority of my assets which I am confident will protect my funds from all hacks and scammers basically. I store my remaining assets in a paper wallet which I keep in a safe area. Also, you should always disclose details regarding your wallets to your close family members just in case.

I cannot disagree that hardware wallets are the safest way of storing coins. But there are also many exchange platforms which are offering the highest level of security, I think they are not as bad as it is commonly said. Very significant thing is carefulness in opening various sites, I recommend to avoid visiting unpopular sites and always to check sites before we start downloading anything from it.

Indeed. No matter how much we think our digital money is secured in our phone, even though we have our private keys safely stored, we must also pay attention to the health of our devices. Be careful on what you download on your device because some may contain threats which may put our digital belongings, not only money, in jeopardy. There might be ways to recover something we lost in our devices due to threats but it would still be better if we have an application that will keep us from harm's way.

Every user probably has developed its own way how to best protect the coins according to the needs and preferences. Personally I never keep my coins in online wallets or exchanges. These are the most vulnerable places and you can easily lose your funds.
Also it's very good habit to keep coins in multiple wallets, not in only one and it's good that one of these wallets is hard wallet.

I will always update my wallet security system. If I keep it in an exchange type wallet, I will always update my password and don't forget that we have to access it using a computer that is safe and free of viruses. Also make sure we can make a combination of important information that is not easily guessed by others. In my opinion when we can maintain the best access, such as passwords and other important information, we can maintain our account and avoid theft.

In case a person has a sizable holding of digital assets, the best and the safest is to use hardware wallet. However, for people like me which only got some residual amount, then maybe the best way is to choose a good wallet and never ever share the private key. As to exchanges, choose the top ones which can guarantee of a refund in case of hacking. Another thing is to never download any wallet especially from unknown sources as hackers and phishers are using this trick in order to get into your private keys and passwords. The recent hack of Binance is making shock waves all this industry and is telling us that not even a big company like Binance is actually safe as the incentives to break the hull is quite huge.

Every wallet of mine is enabled with 2FA, but now with the recent hack of Binance even the 2FA has gone into discussion. Even after enabling 2FA I use the verification through email. This seems to be more secure than just having 2FA or just the gmail verification. With cryptocurrency protection is a big issue, however quite often this is getting a big problem to the cryptocurrency network.

Storing them on a wallet is the only way we protect our digital coins,in my case  I have mine on private keys and hardware wallet which i then store all together in my closet to make it more secure.Having me myself hold my coins making me feel comfortable instead of storing it on an exchange

There's a lot of ways in order to protect your coin as an investor of a cryptocurrency, we have our own ways to do it and I'm happy to share mine:

1. Never let your coins stay to any exchange (Even the top exchanges) since all of them are highly targeted by scammers/hackers.
2. Never ever believed to any promo/s in the email about free shits (There's no free in this world)
3. Use a Hardware wallets such as (Trezor, Ledger) and if you don't have any budget you can print a paper wallet and store it there and place your paper wallet to bank,Vaults or any safe place you know)
4. Never give or share the address wherein you place your coin. (Just to be very safe)
5. Never ever give to anyone your private key and protect your PC/Laptop using antivirus or malwarebyte softwares.

I really don't have any high technology paraphernalia in order to protect my funds or digital coins. That is why I always store them in the safest sites possible. The only thing I always do is whenever I trade, I don't store it to the places where it can possibly get hacked. For example, exchange sites and I don't even let it stay for a long time in MEW. But having a thing like ledger is surely great.

if your coins are stored elsewhere in some server owned by a third party that you only have a username and password and 2FA then it means you do NOT have a "wallet", you only have some IOUs in an account controlled by that third party. the security of your coins and the guarantee of conversion of those IOUs to real bitcoin is at a high risk anyways having 2FA is not giving you that much security in this case!

Offline wallet is the best way to secure digital wallet.
But we don't have one yet, we should activate 2FA on every wallet we have and be careful about surfing to any crypto website they could be place a virus to track our information

As I see it, the two best ways to store your digital coins/tokens is to use a hardware wallet like a trezor wallet or ledger nano S/X or to make a paperwallet. I believe that there are services that can make paperwallets for all coins even erc20 tokens but i cannot confirm 100% if this is true. If someone can confirm this, I would appreciate it.

We consider our digital coins as an asset, it has a huge value that is why we should need to take good care of it.
It is usually we stored it in cold storage and sometimes in hardware wallets but it is not 100% guarantee that we already escaped from hackers and we are lucky enough not to be their target at this time. They are capable enough to get rid of our keys and get access to our coins, it may only happen if we are messy enough in handling our keys or have a mistake in visiting phishing sites.

I have safe storage of my keys and I'm the only one who can open it. As long as it's not being uploaded or sent into the internet, your keys will be safe 100%. Keys are treated to be your valuable things so I think it shouldn't be in the hard drive of your computer because when your pc get compromised by a random hacker, it might get your keys too. If it's in safe storage or personal storage, no one can easily get those keys or decrypt it because they have no accessed to it as long as you're not trying to input your personal storage to your computer.

If you take better protection, you might hardly lose any of your coin. The best way to affordably keep your funds safe is to store your private keys on a paper and not on the hard-disk or any other memory devices and store that paper in your locker where you keep our money. Your private keys would be 100% safe there from each theft the current markets are facing.

Recently there was a news that binance got hacked and more than 7000$ were been stolen from there so we can at least assume that the exchanges are not at all a better place to store ours funds into. You can use a number of paper wallets, hardware wallets, cold storage wallets, etc to be safe from your side.

A offline wallet basically has not risks of hacks. The only problem we can face in using offline wallets is losing the wallet itself or getting it destroyed. There always is better precautions we take in terms of these kind of wallets and also these wallets could be good to store higher amount of funds. It is not necessary to store small amount of funds in these kind of wallets as they can be a bit confusing to transfer or withdraw. I personally always prefer storing the extra of my money into offline wallets like trezor, Ledger, etc to make sure they are not hacked but for funds below $1000 I use the simple blockchain wallet.

The first step that every future owner of crypto has to make is to become well informed about some basic things. You can not protect anything if you do not understand how it works, and what is even more important in what way the hackers are thinking. Being a step or two in front of them, is the only correct strategy.

A few things that every user should pay attention to :

- coins on exchanges are not your coins, never store them online.
- desktop / mobile wallets are safe until your device is safe / clean.
- hardware wallets are good option which cost some money, but never forget to keep your seed in safe place.
- paper wallets ( can be also plastic, metal..) are good for long-term holding, but safety of them is very important.
- never say you own some crypto in public, on social networks, and similar - by doing that you are becoming a potential target.

You need to learned more about securities, remember that it's your money so you have to keep doing your research before you go and start investing inside this market, most of the time, people who didn't pay attention to security of their assets regrets when attackers start to sucked their money.

Yup right, for now the best way is to save assets in cold storage. And do not ever connect a computer with the internet, hacking is possible because of the internet network, without internet hackers cannot enter our system.
Use the internet when needed, such as transactions.

The problem that is often encountered is hacking, here in my opinion to avoid hacking is to move your assets to offline wallet or ledger. Considering when we are online with a network, the possibility of hacking will be there, based on my knowledge of information system security, the first thing you have to do is use a difficult password, second, do not upload or browse sites that are at risk of phishing.

If youre too anxious about your coins, paper and hardware wallet is the most advisable to use. Well in my case, ive got no problem at my local wallet. Although we all know that internet is prone to hacking. Thats why i choose a wallet that can transfer fund to my bank account directly. Just be careful on messing things around the internet. Phishing sites are all over the place. I also use google authenticator for added security.

The rules for safe storage of cryptocurrency are quite simple, the most important thing is to follow them. 1) If you are an investor, then store your cryptocurrency on cold storage devices that are not connected to the Internet. 2) If you are a trader, it is important to distribute your assets to different exchanges, thereby diversifying risks. Also, if you want to achieve more reliable guarantees, it is better to trade on decentralized trading platforms.

I kind of agree with you guy. As we all know, anything which is connected with the Internet may bring us the lack of security. Therefore, one of the most  efficient way to protect our currency is to store it in something which can get rid of Internet impact. For example, secure and renowned hardware wallet such as Trezor or the Ledger Nano S. These wallets can partially help you to avoid being hacked. Though using mobile wallet is considered quite convenient, you'd better not to use it. Because your digital coins will be easily lost.

The first thing you should do is not act stupid. Don't use an exchange as an alternative for wallets to hold your coins. Exchanges are always vulnerable to hack and no way your coins are secured over there. If you are storing your coins in your computer, make sure its clean. If you are planning to hold your coins for long term, then store it in a cold storage!

if you do not trade
you should keep your assets in the wallet. that's the first
and for each security you use must be credible, one of which is that your computer must be clean of suspicious activities such as viruses that can retrieve your data.
You can store on a hardware wallet or something.
so you have to look for all references for each of your security.

Do not stored your coins in one single wallet especially in the exchange just put some amount for your trading job not all ypur coins, in that way I will protect my asset.

First don't let anyone know how much your asset is or where do you store it, second thing is that don't let your coin stay in your wallet. I suggest to use a hardware wallets such as trezor, It's a little expensive but for the sake of security I may say that it's okay to invest on your security isn't?

Don't download, join or open any malicious contents that can be found on the Internet, Emails or group chats to avoid your computer or hardware be infected by virus or malware so far here are the things I know on how I can I protect my digital assets.

well, to protect the coin depends on how much you care about security which will keep your coins safe, if you have a high sense of care then of course you will act quickly for this problem. but so far i only use wallets to store coins and not an exchange, so far it still works well with high caution every time we want to visit the wallet so that it doesn't get stuck on a phishing link

I just be responsible enough to keep my wallet accounts, passwords and every information in tacked in one storage but I do also have spare storages and access codes that can only used by me and I do not share such information even to my friends because what is the essence of creating passwords if I will let them know what is it. Even to my special someone, I just being mindful to myself into where I put all the information I need when I want to use it. As for now, since I haven't plan to use any of my digital coins except Bitcoin, I just hold it into my wallet and just let it still until such time came to use them into a purpose.

the risk in holding altcoin is higher but there a chance of higher gain just invest your willing to risk

The first point to consider when talking about coin/asset protection is to make sure you alone, have access to your assets (private keys per say). Then the next thing to consider is to make sure the platform you're storing is safe and secure. The others such as preventing phishing, private keys theft, etc are extra precautions as well.

Basically I dare not store my tokens in a wallet I have no private key to. I won't wanna risk my assets for nothing. I make use of IMTOKEN WALLET it's on Play store and it works offline too that is what I make used of when storing of tokens.

Definitely its digital coins meaning it won't just be only BTC, ETH or XLM, which I will advice any one that wants to store tokens he or she should make use of IMTOKEN WALLET or any other wallet which you your self have the private key to.

I keep my coins offline. I use exchanges only when I want to trade and I never send all my money to a single one and I never use a single transaction to do it. I use safe passwords and more than 1 copy of my wallet in a safe place. I don't tell people around me that I trade cryptocurrencies. The less people know about it the better.

Haha great advice. I wish I had 100 BTC to even attempt it. You won't find many people on this forum who have this much. Most people don't even have 1 BTC!

2fa isn't unhackable. There are ways around it and the latest binance hack proves it.
Also an antivirus software is only one of many steps you should take to feel secure. There's so many free programs that offer very low protection.

If I had 100 btc in my wallet or even more than that, I will split it up into 10 or 20 in different hardware cold wallets. Exchanges or software wallets is not an option for me. And now that btc is looking so hot right now, it's not just investors that are getting attracted again but also hackers so think very carefully before you put it in any exchange.

You can't blame people with that.

Scammers are tricky and even if you are so knowledgeable, if the scammer approaches you in the right time, you can still be his victim. But it is right that you should not just click anything or any sites or applications that a person that even you know sent you. Scammers will always find a way to trick his victims and that doesn't mean you are exempted to that.

Probably the first thing is to use paper wallets, store bitcoins there and use them only once, after that burn them. Next is hardware wallets, way easier to use and is also safe and reusable. If you can afford hardware wallet, you go with this.

There are many ways to do it. Like finding the best wallet to store your bitcoin and never reveal your private keys to any one. Storing your funds in a cold wallet is the safest way so far that I have experienced.

But if you are a trader, then finding the best exchanges is your best option so you can assure that you funds is safe and you can do your work without worrying anything. And you need to be very careful also, don't act like a fool especially in storing your private keys, passwords and etc., make sure to put it in the safe place.

And because of this methods so far so good I never encounter any such things that my coins steal by someone. Then, I only used Electrum and MEW that's it!

We can only use our phones if we are just holding BTC but if we are holding some altcoins, feel better to use MEW or hardware wallet.
It sounds to be expensive in purchasing hardware wallet and so some of us will stick in using online wallets.
Anyways, the most important is we have stored it securely.

  • Use 2 factor authenticator for login protection
  • I never reuse passwords
  • Never click unknown links

Protecting our own Cryptocurrency must be the same on what we feel about losing cash. We must be vigilant to see whether we are still looking at a safe website or are we using the proper websites that can trade and transfer cryptos. We must also place extra authentications if able because we can be sure that our cryptocurrency can be only accessed by us or by their own users. Cryptos are really hard to hack unless youre careless. Carelessness may lead to big losses and we can prevent that by thinking carefully.

Just like you will not like to lose your physical asset or money, you cryptocurrencies in your wallet is equally a big asset and needs to be kept secured. I protect my wallet by saving the private keys in hard copies. I've never saved my crypto assets in exchange wallets but in my local wallet. To avoid losing, hacking, stealing you need to buy a hardware wallet and you have to be careful about exchanges! Buying a hardware wallet is not enough if you use your phrase code on online! So, never use any kind of phrase code on online, write down in a paper!  And, you shouldn't use an exchange as a wallet, use an only hardware wallet. If you can't buy the hardware wallet right now, then you have metamsk wallet or imtoken, my suggestion is don't for Myetherwallet!

Using cold storage and nano ledger will help us to protect our keys and cryptos since hackers have to encrypt the data billion times before they can intercept. However, I know that they will not be interested in my wallet because right now, it does not have amount.

There are plenty of techniques on how to do it correctly. In my case I haven't loss a single amount yet from my wallet and I am very happy for it.

A little trick for your money to be safe are : don't be greedy especially for the free money as someday it will lead you to revealing your wallet, think twice or more before deciding, don't ever reveal your private key, use a wallet that's been used by many, always check the URL whether you are in correct address to avoid being hacked and lastly don't be a fool instead be wise in every move that you want to execute.

Though not suggested  most new people who has less holdings prefer to have their coins on an online wallet. And I think that is okay. As long as you find yourself still sleeping well at night. But if it came the time that your funds is large enough, it is best to invest in hardware wallets. Keeping your money away from any intermediaries is still the way to go.

Even you have hardware wallet, it's still risky. Depends also how you store it, especially your backup for private keys.

There are a few basic precautions, that you need to take. I would list them down, in the order of importance:

1. Never store any of your coins in the exchanges. There are no exchanges out there which are 100% reliable, as seen from the recent scandals at Wex, Cryptopia and Binance.
2. Always take control of the private key to your coins.
3. Make sure that the computer you use is free from spyware, keyloggers and trojans
4. Activate 2FA in your wallet
5. Take special care not to click on phishing links.

The problem with hardware wallets is that you need to be extremely careful about the pin code and the recovery seed. In case you forget the PIN, then there is no way to recover your coins. Also, with the limited options and customizations they offer, I think that the hardware wallets (Trezor, Ledger, BitLox, KeepKey.etc) are over-priced.

I use both web wallet and hardware wallet but i save most funds on the hardware wallet which is actually a ledger wallet. One thing about web wallets is that you have to be very careful anytime you are unlocking it because sometimes you can be lead to a fake websites and they can hack your account if you access your wallet over there.
For the use of hardware wallets just make sure you  have stored your private keys in a safe place.

Keep your coin in the hardware wallet through it in the River that is the best way to do it.  The logic behind that is to keep your fundings cold what it means is you should keep most of the amounts that you are not using into cold wallet.

If that is kinda hard then you just have to be responsible for any acts you are doing with regards to whatever storage your coins are being put on

I have made a paper wallet where I have printed a password-protected private key. but the most crucial part is keeping the private key safe. as its a paper so it can have physical damages if acted carelessly with it. so private key is best if you want to minimize the hacking options and keeping multiple backups means more security flaws but also it is safer as a backup. also, do not keep all you know on a single address as one of the address somehow got compromised your remaining funds will be safe.

If you do not require it for long time then offline storage is the best method . And if some has very less coins than can store in multiple wallets or exchanges which has good security so that you would have diversified your risk to different wallets .

I don't store them on exchanges and keep it at multi-crypto wallet like coinomi. I keep the private keys incase I delete that app on my phone. I make multiple copies of that backup to reduce the risks of my cryptos stored there forever. So far I've been doing that for 2 years and I can still access my wallets anytime I want as long as I have those backups. I also don't use public wifi, as much as I can, I use my phone's data package to connect to the internet when I am outside.

I do have Ledger, and I store it there. I only send to exchanges the coins I am going to sell, and I do not trade all my assets. Usually those I gain from profit are the ones I trade. I also trust few exchanges to trade my asset on. I look metoculously for features and reviews to avoid losing funds.

The protection of our wallet solely rely with us and how we are able to keep our private keys secured from others who may want to steal our coins, and also not to let people know about our log in details if we operating a web wallet. But in all if not in the case of hack then keeping our private and log in details safe is the key to securing our wallet.

I have always believed that the crypto currency is based on the blockchain technology which relies on the principle of decentralization and it gives us the freedom to hold our wealth with us without relying on any third party out there. I have been using multiple wallets but when it comes to the holding, I prefer hardware wallet as well as paper wallet (along with backup precautions) to store my funds. I highly recommend offline storage for anyone willing to ensure high security but even in that case, the holder must maintain psychical security measures.

cryptocurrency market started to grow day after day, and everyone now started to own coins, so the question now which come to all the coin's holders , how to protect your digital coin from losing, stealing, hacking, etc ?
Buying the coins is not the important factor, but storing your valuable is the problem, if you are planning to invest in virtual currency make sure you spend money to get a hardware wallet to safely store your coins or you can store in a hard disk which is not connected online and if you make sure that is done and you have a good password and you control the private keys, it is well and good and your coins are safe and never use open WiFi connections and any other insecure internet connection if you store your coins in your laptop.

Trezor or Nano Ledger are great options! The support altcoins as well, so you can keep any kind of investment in the cold storage. That said, if the sum is big, I would divide the whole portfolio into several parts and keep in several places to reduce any risk (theft, device break, key lost) to a minimum.

I have no such idea about the wallet, but I did a lot of research before coming to Cryptocurrency World. From my own personal experience of that research, I think the hardware wallet is the best for hacking, stealing.

A hardware wallet is not 100% secure. There is always a chance of losing the recovery sheet or someone stealing the wallet. Online wallets such as Blockchain.info are as safe as any hardware wallet, if you take the necessary security precautions. Just do 2FA and email verification and your online wallet will be fine and protected against the hacks.

I protect them by using a separate gadget that installed my wallets and I never use the said gadget for anything in the internet but only for my storage only so from that I am safe from phishing sites that mostly uses by hackers to track our precious cryptocurrency

For me entering sites or those links provided here is one big factor why we are getting victims, and another thing is the social media sites that we are having so that is one simple but valuable way of keeping safe my assets

Split your recovery keys into multiple parts and save in different cloud storage is ok thought. i.e 1-8 words onedrive, 9-16 words google drive, 17-24 icloud.
For hardware wallet i am not believing it much, it may be broken and you will still need other methods for recovery (usb device have chance of dead), also i am not sure what inside, is there any chip that will sit there waiting for it time? I don't mean anything to the manufacturers but who know, they may not made it from zero (fabricate from raw material -> finished product). Paper is good too but make sure you need a plastic wrap to protect it from water / humidity environment.

Almost a lot of lost due to own mistakes, because actually the available wallet is sufficiently protected in such a way and can be trusted. but all back to ourselves how to secure it is correct. so what is needed is more reading about protection that can secure what we have so that people do not take it.

Well the truth is hard, because they can protect themselves through cold wallets, and other times they can protect themselves in some platforms of Exchanges that give enough security worldwide, but something is possible, that hacking is given as it was given to Binance, which, the robbery was a millionaire, however, I think that leaving one part in cold wallet and another part in Exchange is a natural and good way to protect yourself, also in these mometnos where anything can happen I would not advise leaving it in banks because the money is very fluctuating and a possible crash worldwide can capture the value of your money and decrease it.

For me the safest way is with cold wallet, but if so we would be losing all the market action because it turns out to be a process to get what we have saved there, and put it in some Exchange.

Although there good wallets like the Ledger Nano S and other hard ware wallets with good security, the best way to protect cryptocurrencies is for the holder to meticulous handle the wallet and its login details. This can be achieved through the safe keeping of the details and avoid keeping login details in emails because they can be easily hacked. Also, avoid visiting unfamiliar sites or links and downloading unknown files sent through mails - it could lead to a phishing site.

Have a good anti-virus system installed in your laptop (like Norton or Kaspersky) and you should be fine. But even then, they can't protect you from the phishing links and physical keyloggers. Never open any wallet or exchange links from the email. This step should prevent 99.99% of the phishing incidents. Normally Norton/Kasper are capable of flagging down keyloggers, but better take precautions and avoid unknown people physically accessing your system.

Hardware wallet is also a good option, in case you are not averse to spending $100 or $200 on it. But then, you should be comfortable with using the hardware wallet and careful in storing the passwords and backup seed.

The need for hardware wallet is clearly explained in most of the posts, apart from this enabling all the necessary securities available helps in securing the funds. In recent days there were more loss due to some malware attack on the desktops where the wallet files were saved. It is always good to keep separate desktop or keep the desktops clear with good anti virus protection.

One thing that i do is to bookmark the original website so that i am not led to any fake site which would get access to my private keys and steal my cryptos. Also, don't share your private keys as this can also make you vulnerable to hackers.

I use the hardware wallet Ledger wallet it can be used for many cryptocurrencies and I currently hold my two main ones which are btc and eth. They work very well and I feel safe. I treat my ledger as a bank.
I use good antivirus (nod32) with a firewall and I am careful what I download and from where and what links open. Most nasty links open and try download or even launch and installer at placed like paid to click or traffic exchange. The money-making sites attract people so scammers put their stuff among it because they know people are going to see it at some point. Even some faucets do it. Some have a mining script that runs by itself when you visit the website. This is ok if they tell you and do it in place of ads but you get obvious banner farms and places full of ads and popups you cannot even navigate around.

As long as you keep your wits about you, then you should be ok. One more thing is always double check when you copy paste things and when you about to login somewhere. Make sure you don't get phished.

Doesn't matter what wallets you use to store you coins if that wallet is something set up online it can be way easier hacked then a hardware wallet. You can be the most meticulous person by taking care of everything, not accessing any suspicious website and keep or your passwords in a safe place but keep in mind hackers are very smart people and they know all this tricks and it's just a matter of time until they are going to find a leak of information and then your whole funds are gone.

The protection of your crypto coins or digital money solely depends on how well you knowledge and understand the  various ways and options in keeping your  wallet safe. The only way a hacker or scammer can get hold of your coins if they have access to your private keys or the seeds and passwords.  To keep your coins safe, you shouldn't login or sign up to any website which looks suspicious or not legit. You should always check every website you open or sign up on. Hackers mostly use fishing sites to obtain private keys of most people in the crypto space...

You can protect your digital coins by keeping them safe in some place where no unknown user will be able to get from you.
Such as Trezor, online wallets with 2fa or any other kind of defensive system and backup.
You can also exchange them immediatly to fiat in case you dont want the exchanges to keep them.

It seems to me that the user can protect his funds primarily due to his carelessness and caution, because in most cases theft of excess funds occurs due to the fact that the user has visited phishing sites or lost his personal data or secret keys in other ways.  It is necessary to adhere to the elementary rules of security in the network and then you can count on more or less normal security in your funds.

It seems to me that in the first place it is impossible to use the main wallet, where you keep all your funds, for some transactions in the network.  I use other wallets as intermediaries and who have a minimum interest rate to reduce costs.  Perhaps this is a waste of money, but I believe that this is the cost of the security of my funds.

The very first step to protect your crypto is to store them in hardware wallets, paper wallets, or cold storage. You should also keep your information private and avoid public WiFi networks as these networks are an easy target for hackers.

Always use strong passwords and add 2-factor authentication for all of your accounts. You can even spread your cryptocurrency among multiple wallets.
Always use a password manager, so you don’t use an old password. Never post your email address, home address, or phone number on social media. Keep your antivirus up-to-date to avoid downloading malware. Besides, don’t forget to backup your wallet periodically. And, for cold storage wallets and backup wallets recovery seed at home, keep them in a fireproof safe.

*hold your own private key
*Don't share it in any circumstances
*Make sure the wallet you are trusting have been reviewed and backed up by good views
*Check online for any problems related to the wallet you are holding coins into , just keep checking time and again ..like every week or two
*Don't prefer an online wallet , go for an offline one .
*Do not keep money in wallets in which there is no security
*If you are holding for long term then again , you can just turn off the sending Bitcoins option , it needs both email and mobile verification to be active again.
* Use Google authentication if possible
*Don't put your fingerprint there at any cost , it might be comfortable and easy for you but might take you anywhere
*Take care of your paper wallet like it's gold
Etc... Infact there are thousands and thousands of steps you can take to make it safe but at the end o the day , just stay away from the limelight and just do everything in silence , don't tell your friends and family about how many Bitcoins you own and stuff , even that may just be the trigger for someone.

That would be stupid if we share our private key to anyone as that is our password to access our money.
Even within my family I never share the password, but I keep it in writing and keep it in a place where I tell them to access in case I will never gonna access it anymore, you know some case of death, we also have to prepare for that possibility especially if we are keeping a big money in that wallet.

Remember that all components will eventually fail. Then if you try to turn it on years later you will find that it won't turn on, by coincidence i was yesterday checking some old phones.

A hardware wallet sounds like a much better idea if they have a substantial amount which is practically the only way that would be justified besides just personal preference. Cold wallets have a much much difficult way of storing and eventually finding and using.

Phones were made to be used often and for other purposes. Hardware wallets were made specifically for the purpose.

I am using Blockchain wallet to send and receive my Bitcoin with 2-factor authentication, private keys stored in a safe place.
My method is quite similar to this, but I keep it on an exchanger so it's easier to exchange it when I need money. however, I also use 2fa to strengthen it, and of course I choose a trusted exchanger.

Same here, I also use a trusted exchanger with 2fa to put an extra security to my wallet and I also it has a feature to use fingerprint in opening the exchanger or wallet app.
^ Remember that you might trust trustworthy exchange for a short term only if you are going to store your bitcoin there. That is very risky when you store bitcoin in exchange even it is trusted. Once you did not own your private key in your wallet, then, the coins that your store is not yours. I think that is the proper protection of your coins even how many layers of security code did you put as long as there's a third party holding your fund (which is exchange) then I conclude that is not safe.

There are several types of wallets for storing cryptocurrencies.
There are online wallets located on third-party sites. For Example Blockchain. There are wallets that can be downloaded as an application on your computer or mobile phone. And there are cold storage wallets, such as Trezor or Ledger. These wallets do not have permanent access to the Internet and are therefore considered the most secure.

There are many options. Of course, the best thing to do with your coins is to store them in a cold wallet. That is going to be relatively secured from possible hacks and all. And then keep your private keys, pins, and seeds in a very safe place. As much as possible write them down on a piece of paper and then keep them away from anybody except yourself.

It is not advised to store your cryptocurrencies on exchanges even if you enabled its 2 factor authentication. You don't have personal control over your coins there. Once the owner of that site decides to freeze all withdrawals you can't do anything about it. The best choice is to use hardware wallet but not all can afford that so using some wallets that supports multiple cryptocurrencies is also good.

For the safest protection for your crypto account and wallet on this market, investors need to pay attention to some rules.  Always keep the private key of the crypto wallet very carefully, limiting keeping coins on Exchange.  Without trading, investors can use hard wallets to protect your coins.

Hardware wallet. Physical device. I also printout my private keys offline and keep them in the safe. I have also given my parents an envelope with my private keys on as a final backup. I have an offline storage as well.
In all, I have 3x backups. The external HDD is to keep current backups then I print them later.

I use a ledger for my bitcoin and eth. It is worth spending the money to protect your assets. No amount of money is too much I believe.

It doesn't mean much if an exchange is trusted or big. Mt Gox was trusted and big and we all know what happened to it.

In general there are 3 ways in order to protecting our cryptocurrencies  i.e; saving it in cold wallet, hard wallet, or web wallet (online wallet, including : wallet on an exchange) card. But, the third option is risky enough. Recent news from theguardian.com shows that there is an exchange in Tokyo is hacked and $ 32M are stolen, you can check it  HERE  (https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/technology/2019/jul/12/tokyo-cryptocurrency-exchange-hack-bitpoint-bitcoin)

If possible, do not save them in an exchange wallet, unless you are a day trader. Save them in hardware wallets such as trezor or ledger nano. They are safer as compared to online wallets or desktop wallets and mobile wallets. Private keys should not be shared to anyone, strictly. And they should be kept somewhere very safe, preferably somewhere secret.

I use a hardware wallet to protect my assets, now nano ledger and trezzor can be used as one of the best options. maybe you can do that when your assets are large and need extra security
nano ledger has a lot of errors. I've heard about the possibilities of shackling. Trezor is safer. I've been using it for 3 years and I'm happy ...

There's a lot of option, there are hardware and physical device but still, information can be stolen. What I've learned to avoid losing my digital coins is to keep my info secured by using 2FA and hiding my keys, avoid signing up on unnecessary or unsecured websites, keeping my emails and social media accounts. Our accounts are connected to each other if we use one email, it would be better if we have separate email on a different platform.

Cryptocurrency coins that have a value will always be targeted by hackers, therefore we must be careful in safeguarding our coins.  One of them is custom store in a personal wallet, and we must maintain the private key of our wallet.  Don't let anyone else know, we can also use protective 2fa to better secure our wallet.  And to safeguard our assets in exchange we also have to complete 2fa to enter into an exchange, and what is equally important is to keep the email we use in the exchange not to let anyone else know.

I keep it in a crypto-exchange and do not let anyone use my wallet :) In principle, if you are careful enough, this will be enough. Of course, if you need to leave the coins for long-term storage, it is better to reset them on a physical storage media such as a flash drive.

Like wise what you said, bitcoin and other alt-coin are digital asset which can use in less than a second for a transfer from one wallet to another, Hence every coin are created in difference form, secondly every wallet has a private key, which be save in a cool place, in a system or back up devices.

First thing to do always keep your private keys safe no matter what, don't share it to anyone no matter what the consequences because it's the life of your assets and should be stay hidden. As always make  back ups on your private keys as much as possible. Don't fall for fake airdrops that give much attention because usually they do that and in the end they will ask your private keys in order to claim and i have friends fall for that so must be vigilant. Last thing don't store your funds on exchanges because there are no guarantees that they are safe of hacking just like what happened to Bitrue. So, be safe always and  be vigilant.

The cryptocurrency market is already falling again. It's time to learn how to study the cyclical nature of cryptocurrencies. Why do people get so surprised every time prices go up or down? It's a story, you need to know it to understand how it works. Only this attitude will help not to lose your money.

It is not 100% safe if your coins are kept in online wallets or even desktop wallets. The internet is indeed full of hackers lurking around, waiting for any prey. If I know, right at this very moment, some hackers are doing attempts to get inside the safety walls of wallets. Hot wallets are more prone to such attempts than cold wallets. But if you don't have much choice, keeping private keys on a piece of paper is much safer than storing the keys in laptops and PCs. Just make sure you have several copies saved in different safe places.

But of course, Ledger Nano as well as Trezor are the most common and best choices of hard wallets.

Hacking is unpredictable therefore it is not very easy to protect even if you are using the top 1 wallet in storing your money. There is no 100% safe in storing your money online but if this kind of scenario will not happen.

Then the best thing to do in order to protect your assets is to become wise, double check or even triple check everything before proceeding.

Protecting or keeping your Cryptocurrency safe is one of main problem in the Crypto Industry. We need to be cautious in accessing websites that might lead to phishing or scams that would endanger our assets. Keeping them outside the internet would be helpful if we own a Ledger but not everybody can afford one and that is why we need to add security measures to websites where we keep our Cryptos.

There is always a hole, no system is truly safe and some people will always try to bait those who have crypto into their trap, that is to be expected but if people could increase their security that would be the best solution there is. There is no denying that keeping your funds offline or disconnected to the internet is the best way but there will eventually comes a time when you need the internet so you will forcefully tighten your security for that.

there are many information available on threads here on BTT that explain how you can protect your asset. The use of hardware wallet is one of them and many hardware device like trezor has been suggested by users. It is very important to note that it is not advisable to store your asset on exchange platform because you can lose them when the exchange get hacked. Cryptopia hacking is still fresh in our memory. make sure you do not store your private key in emails and other online cloud storage providers.

y way of protecting my digital coins is
implement safeguards to reduce the chance of thieves by implementing these methods, although complex, can avoid potentially significant and life-changing losses
• Save cryptocurrency and offline tokens in hardware or paper-based wallets

• Secure the hardware and paper wallet in the safe locked when not in use

• Secure the private key offline where the wallet is stored, such as a bank safe or a safe offsite location

• Limit the amount of cryptocurrency that is in the exchange until only for trading and exchange

• Use trusted bookmarks in the browser to access the exchange, wallet, and other cryptocurrency service providers.

• Run several passphrases in the hardware wallet to hide the main wallet balance and reduce losses from physical attacks

• Run multifactor authentication with one form of authentication from an offline token generator, such as Google Authenticator

• Run a multisignature approach for funds stored in the wallet

• Limit public presence or avoid discussing crypto ownership in public forums

• Always check the wallet address after pasting (pasting), and when sending the wallet address via email, chat or other digital communication, always attach a picture from the wallet address to verify they have received the correct address.

By implementing good protection practices, you can significantly reduce the opportunity to lose the many benefits that cryptocurrency offers. For some people, the tradeoff is very valuable. Over time, this system will be developed to better track thieves and prevent the theft of theft. Until then, let's make fraudsters not move.

Actually I strongly agree that what is already in the wallet online is very safe, but it all depends on our own personal self, can we not make mistakes that result in coins being stolen by people who cannot be held responsible.
but if added with hardware that is already widely available, it will be better protected.

The issue with a hardware wallet is that it takes a while to order it and wait for it to arrive. What do you do in the meantime to keep your crypto secure? Or what if you can't afford a hardware wallet? Also if you buy a hardware wallet, how do you know that the vendor is to be trusted? There were a few incidences of tampered Ledgers found on Amazon.

This is why you are better off just using a cold storage software wallet like Armory or Electrum. Because all you need is an old computer you never use which we all probably have.

You take an old computer, take out the wifi and bluetooth and that will be your cold storage which is used to sign your transactions and holds your private keys. Your online computer is only there for generating the unsigned transactions.

This is very easy to setup, its almost instant and its free.

As time goes by, robbers or other scums would be educated what hardware wallets are.
Then someone having hardware wallet would actually tell others:
Hey this guy must have quite a sum of cryptos just rob/swat/blackmail him!

Hardware wallet just means convienience.
The best way to protect your crypto is that you pretend that you never buy it and fool your neighbors as many as you can.

For key storage, just use some offline wallet then write down the seeds then delete the wallet file.
Write a whole article or even poem basing on those 12 or 24 seed words. Only you can pick them up through hundreds of words in of the article, can't you? Keep the extension elsewhere you like.

The very first step to protect your crypto is to store them in hardware wallets, paper wallets, or cold storages.

Keep these tips in mind as well:

  • Keep your information private and avoid public WiFi networks that are an easy target for hackers.
  • Always use strong passwords and add 2-factor authentication for all of your accounts.
  • Store your cryptocurrency on multiple wallets.
  • Always use a password manager, so you don’t use an old password.
  • Do not post your email address, home address, or phone number on social media.
  • Keep your antivirus up-to-date to avoid downloading malware.
  • Don’t forget to backup your wallet periodically.
  • For cold storage wallets and backup wallets recovery seed at home, keep them in a fireproof safe.

I am not sure if having multiple wallets is gonna  be a good practice though. I mean you could just have two wallets, one for your hodlings and another one for your tradings. Unless you're like a crypto businessmen then I think it is quite applicable, just don't put it in online wallets wherein private keys aren't handled by you and don't hold your coins inside of an exchange, people should already know that but I am still hearing a lot from people losing a lot of their coins due to hacks in the exchanges they're trading at. I've read in Reddit that people recommended Keeper as their password manager in anything though.
having multiples wallets is a good practice only if you capable of mantaining it. Even hardware wallet nowadays always randomly change the address of your wallet right? that is to avoid someone lurking on your wallet and if you have multiples wallets the chance you get hacked and lose all your money will be reduced.

I would put my digital coins and cryptocurrencies into a reliable Bitcoin wallet, preferably a hardware one. That way you will know where your coins are physically stored and also how you can access them digitally when you want to. USB and Bluetooth are both convenient methods for reading data and you also have the option of a paper wallet. Alternatively, I would store and hold the digital coins within a Bitcoin IRA (https://www.smartbitcoininvestments.com/) to protect my 401k or existing IRA from an upcoming economic disaster.

I think you are talking about ERC-20 tokens, and not ECR-20.

Native support for ERC-20 is not available in Ledger. Can't blame them. A lot of the developers have complained that storing tokens in the Ethereum platform is very risky and the funds are vulnerable to hacks and robberies. Ledger team has stated that the ERC-20 platform is not stable enough for them to allow it in the hardware wallet.

But there is another way of storing ERC-20 tokens in  Ledger. You can store the tokens in a third party application such as Myetherwallet and then store the private keys in Ledger. This is not very user friendly, but I don't think that you have any better option right now.

Everyone knows which wallet is more save than one and where dey could store their coin that will not have bad effect of been hack or stolen which I think will not be a good question to be asking here as many hacker are out there trying to study how and ways to could use to break security of wallet and if you are telling a story of ways you used to keep your coins here then you are giving a way to penetrate the system for hacker.

So I will advice you to just be cautions of what you type here or say.

Nha, online wallets are prone to any hacking events, it is better to secured our coins in offline wallet. But anyway, it is all about how we manage our wallets. Using different PC's or laptop could lead into something we don't want to happen and indeed, it happens to a lot of holders.
It could be the best to have our own PC's and don't let others touches it.

All you need to do is to take a few basic security precautions. If 2FA is enabled and the private key is properly backed up, then the chances of your coins getting stolen or lost is close to zero. If you still want to be sure about the safety of your coins, then hardware wallets are available from $100 to $300, depending on the specifications.
