Title: Why does my wallet show more than the blockchain
Post by: FFrankie on May 09, 2019, 09:29:58 PM
So my mobile wallet shows that I have more BTC in their than the blockchain. Any ideas why that is? I am using mycellium on android. I am only using one address on mycellium so it isnt combining anything.

Some block explorers(including blockchain.com)  do not support segwit, so if you have any BTC in bc1 addresses they will not show up

Check on another blockexplorer

One reason could be that maybe your wallet has not synced well from the last time you used it.

How big is the difference, like 0.01mBTC on your wallet and 0.00001BTC on blockchain.info?
If that's the case, double check the unit used by your mycelium android (ex. BTC / mBTC / uBTC).
Those are Bitcoins (1unit), MilliBitcoins (.001unit) and microBitcoins (0.000001unit) respectively.

It could also be a syncing issues if you've made an "external" transaction before the last time it got synced like Bitcoin_Arena said above.

Some block explorers(including blockchain.com)  do not support segwit, so if you have any BTC in bc1 addresses they will not show up
It's highly unlikely because of the bech32 SegWit compatibility, even though it isn't supported by that site, the "bc1 address'" transactions were still included to each address' balance; you can't just click on it.

Maybe you have more than 1 address in your wallet so it shows the sum of all your addresses.

And maybe blockchain.info is only showing you the balance of one address (your main).

A screenshot would help as well as the Blockchain link you are using

What @cestmoi indicates would be my bet. Wallets consolidate balances of addresses within, and it is not unusual for a wallet to create a new address for every reception TX. You’ll need to see if your wallets has an easy way of showing you all your addresses that hold a balance, or a list of TXs where you can observe the receiving addresses.

Try going to the Accounts Tab, and once there, chose Sign Message. See if that shows you all enclosed addresses.

my mobile wallet
The majority of mobile wallets should be an HD wallet.

Maybe you have more than 1 address in your wallet so it shows the sum of all your addresses.
I think this is the reason.
Since you have HD wallet, it will scan the derived addresses, not just the address currently in use.

In Electrum (desktop) the addresses with "balance" can be easily checked, I am afraid this feature not available in all wallets.
You might have to trace manually using "see previous address" or similar.

Even if you've only using one "receive" address generated by your Mycelium wallet... if you have sent any outgoing transactions, it is highly likely that Mycelium has been creating multiple "change" addresses in the background for you... so some of your coins might in fact be on different addresses.

You'd need to check the outgoing transactions in your Mycelium transaction history and see where the change (if any) is being sent... then check all the addresses on the blockexplorer... not just the "one" address ;)
