Do you guys think Elon Musk could potentially make BTC the main currency in Mars?

This is hilarious, LOL. Well we are not even sure if living in Mars is viable. Well, just for fun, if Elon Musk is to make it possible, it would be great of crypto will be used as it's currency. Let's see if it will be an effective medium of exchange of it's used as the main currency.

It's funny because it is said that Bitcoin is "A Universal Currency" I just thought of buying a planet from Aliens, costs 1000000 Bitcoins. Would you please give me some? Habitable, please.

I can see Mr. Musk making Mars an habitable planet.

Very funny mars have not been concard yet and any country that first established a territory on mars will like to make they central currency the main currency on mars and if its discovered by a bitcoin expert with adequate internet connect then the possibility of using bitcoin on the planet will be perfect since there is no border restrictions with the currency.

Bitcoin would be the best option because it is decentralized, but the economy does not only depend on establishing a currency, supply, demand, production, etc. Another world is to speak perhaps of new concepts, it is very interesting

At this point we don't even know when we'll send the first human to Mars, or when will we send another human mission to at least the Moon, so it's way too early to think about Mars and Bitcoin. Bitcoin has far important things that require attention, like Lightning network, better wallet software, new protocol features, competition with altcoins, pressure from governments and banks, and so on. 

It depends on the community on mars well there's nothing wrong with it since it's decentralized, no government involved, anonymity and transactions are easily be made which can be really used not just in mars but anywhere as long as it have an internet connection which is not impossible to be build in mars.

Well it's really good to know that someone are thinking about this kind of possibilities right?

Firstly, this is basically a dream which might never become a reality. Face the facts people. BTC was never designed to be the primary currency, but was meant to serve as an alternate payment option.

Secondly, living on Mars is still pretty much impossible currently. Might change in the future though(For the elites probably).

This is strange, I don't understand the fact that this first set the territory on Mars, I'm not even sure if we can live on the planet Mars. For that, let's solve the problems that exist in the world.

Strange from the sound of it but if it is true this is not the first time a person wants to go to space and make some weird things outside the universe, Well recently some pornstars want to do it on space but I guess for that to happen they will surely need a huge amount of money providing the safety and expenses covered in that expedition, Well I am not seeing some production that successful ever since so I guess it is still not successful, And If we compare that expedition or project to this one I think they will need a ridiculous amount of money and Elon Musk wants a colony on space.

Far more logical would be to use another blockchain. It can be Bitcoin itself, renamed if you like to avoid confusion. Sure there could be an exchange, if someone is willing to take the risks of 40min delays...

Unless this communications problem is solved somehow, such as with quantum entanglement (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_entanglement) in a future interplanetary communications device, it is just unpractical to do it with Bitcoin itself.

It's funny that there are people who are thinking about Bitcoin that way. Bitcoin is multifunction but thinking that it could be used on other planet is unrealistic. We couldn't even get there by ourselves. I guess we should think of more adoptions in our planet first before we focus on mars.

If in the future Elon Musk gets to Mars it will be an incredible discovery ! Bitcoin as a means of payment on Mars is reasonable but let's not forget that there is another series of cryptocurrencies ! Elon Musk has always supported and supports new technologies that have enormous potential and bitcoin is no exception !

Given that bitcoin is *portable*, yes, it would be an ideal currency for interplanetary travel. It would make sense for a mathematically-derived virtual currency to be used by humans colonizing outer space. In fact, this is increasingly likely to occur.

lol, I bet Santoshi has never even thought that his invention will be used on something like this. I mean literally how can you even think about that, maybe Bitcoin is good when considered against the government and banking system but what about the internet in the mars. We don't even know if we can live in Mars and you are thinking about making a hole cryptocurrency in mars. Best of luck with your idea.

hahahahaha... Bitcoin is not even accepted in all countries yet and people are thinking of it being used in Mars. Its high time that all these jokes should stop. We need to share information that will encourage people who have little or no knowledge about Bitcoin to start researching and using it for their transaction of goods and services...

Who knows, let's say we were able to make mars as a home planet, then we can be able to make bitcoin as the main currency is mars if bitcoin is already accepted. But I think fiat money will still be part of people's currency since bitcoin is a digital one you can't touch it.

Some people have big dreams, can't really knock them for thinking big. The pragmatic approach is to think about how we're going to solve the problems on Earth when it comes to getting Bitcoin popular, but human history is built on pioneers. There is a decent chance that Bitcoin would become embedded on any Mars colony before it was considered an important factor on Earth.

In fact, provided that resources on Mars are initially "rationed", cryptos could end up having more value as a specific allotment of electricity or tonnage from Earth has to be put into the mining required to maintain most cryptos. We already see Bitcoin nodes in space, so it is not unlikely to see Bitcoin pioneering on Mars as being the "Universal Currency" for interplanetary commerce. Just imagine working as a space blogger or software developer on Mars and getting paid in bitcoins from a customer on earth.  ;D

Getting Bitcoin to Mars, would give real meaning to the word, "Borderless"  ;)  I honestly think that they would create their own "SpaceCoin" for every planet, like we have reserve currencies for every country.  ::)

First, who in the hell will use Bitcoin in Mars?? The Aliens out there?? What a funny statement but anyway, if he can do it then let him be :D. I think before thinking this, he should think about how people can live there so that we can say that Bitcoin can be use as a currency in Mars.

When we have had enough as a race of killing reach other and ourselves and our planet surely a group sick of it will leave to go space adventuring ^^ Crypto would make sense and it would be like a new start, Not sure mars will be where we go but if we carry on like this we will soon have to live elsewhere. I think nodes would float in space. The problem is how do we transfer data in space? The speed of light is much too slow. Even on earth, those of you that game know about pings and right now we cannot maintain low pings worldwide never mind on mares. 21k miles over more is too much lag for the speed of light to handle.

People really have wide expectations by even thinking that Bitcoin will be the main currency when we on earth find it difficult to accept and use it for transaction of goods and services. There is no way this assumption of yours can be possible.

Considering there will be an human colony in Mars financed by Elon Musk, bitcoin can be the main currency since he wants it.

Elon Musk is a creative person and I believe he is not going to implement in currency to the mars. Who was the person who proposed that we can explore a lot of bones in order to change the Mars temperature, that was a good idea indeed but is not practical? But regulating a planet with virtual currency or even physical currency means regulating the planet with our government. Humans cannot just visit every planet and divide it for their own use. That is the most selfish thing the human can do.

Bitcoin can be the one and only currency that Martians will use...that is if Elon Musk will approve of the idea. Just imagine being able to send bitcoin to someone you know living in the terraformed Mars...that will be so epic and so futuristic. The only problem is that we still don't know how the idea of going and permanently living in Mars can proceed. Let's see if Elon Musk can indeed pull off this dream of leaving the Earth and arriving at Mars for good. So why not: Bitcoin for Mars not just for Earth!

The dream projects that Elon Musk is having are extraordinary and his plan to take people to Mars is just another fantasy project and i am not sure how he is going to make it possible but if he does then he might use bitcoin or any other virtual currency he thinks is a great prospect for transactions, i guess he will use doge coin  :P.
Reality check, only millionaires or billionaires will be going for these fantasy tours and it will be a full package tour and you really do not need to do any transactions if that is the case.

I think it's looking impossible to create a colony within 2024 in mars! but if he can do this that's will be a great innovative news for ours! we are also waiting for this type of something! Definitely. We will need the Internet on Mars. As long as the Bitcoin blockchain exists and you have a wallet of some kind then it can be used as the main currency on Mars.

This is possible to make Bitcoin a single currency in there but first they should put more people in Mars and build a civilization so that the use of currency will be utilize. This is very far away from the reality as 5 years from now will not enough to make this things happen in Mars so better if they will just make an sanctuary or remoted place here on Earth in which Bitcoin is the main currency.

Whoever establishes the first community in Mars will dictate what currency will be used. If living will be possible in Mars, only scientists and astronauts will be there. It will be too expensive for ordinary individuals to live there. So if only a few handfuls of people can live there, even a carrot can be used as currency. So yes, Bitcoin can be the main currency in mars if ever it becomes habitable.

This is very interesting if they will be successful with their plan to build a society in Mars someday then there is a big possibility that they can create their own currency.

This article is too dumb. Why the hell you need a currency on a dead planet in which no life exists on that? At least it is safe to say that Mars is not within our grasp yet and there's no sureness whether there could be life exists on that planet.

I don't even believe that people can live on Mars. Maybe it could take a 100 years or more to make that happen. But Elon sure wants to make everything around him created by his own idea so he'll definitely make his own coin once we see that we gets closer to that possiblilty.

All you guys are obviously mostly not ever used Bitcoin. Even here on Earth it is so hard to find people willing to take your Bitcoin, unless they are a merchant who uses Bitpay maybe. You think Bitpay will set up on Mars? Because if they do not then you have to find merchants willing to take Bitcoin directly. If you cannot find them here, what makes you think they will be found on Mars?

People on Mars will be using fiat first before Bitcoin or any other crypto.

It is fancy even to think that mankind will live on Mars. I do not know WHAT changes have to happen in the bodies of human beings so that they can live on this planet. Thus, it is worthless to think about BTC used there.

It's still early to talk about this since people are still working on finding solutions to live on Mars and it's going to take a while until a civilization will be moved and formed there in order to be in need to use a currency. Anyway, if people will ever be able to live on Mars I agree that they will need another method, different than cash, to pay for whatever they need and bitcoin is the perfect solution for that so the answer to your question is yes.

I also don't think people will go and live on Mars, better focus on Terra and governments should help people live here and not throw away money for something who people will not benefit at all. Bitcoin should be the main currency here, but maybe will not happen.

Bitcoin usage keeps increasing with time, and it needs to get used same as the fiat usage. First of all it is good to get spread all around the earth and further can get moved to Mars and other planets. If bitcoin is familiar in earth, further it'll also get its priority into Mars when humans begin the survival.

Besides, using fiat on another planet is a nonsense. There will be different hierarchy and different needs, a brand new history.
Moreover only psychologically stable people will make it to Mars. So it’s very likely they won’t need that game attributes we use here on Earth.

I find this article interesting but there are things needed to consider before implementing this kind of idea. Hell, everyone is still debating if the external and internal conditions on Mars is habitable or if life can exist there and people are already talking about the currency to use there!
Going back to the question, introducing cryptocurrency as its foundation would always start at Earth- meaning all transactions will be utilized in our planet first before implementing it to Mars. That is why I highly doubt that it will materialize anytime soon.

Bitcoin in Mars is not an easy achievable thing, the technology keeps advancing and as a part when humans start to migrate to Mars bitcoin might get used. Earlier when there is not much of advancement people exchanged commodities and slowly currencies came into existence.
