I feel ashamed, but I have to ask help for a basic math question:


IF when I sent some btc to my friend 0.08179 btc was equal to 500 euros, how much was the btc price?

I tried with a simple proportion like 0.08179:500=1:x, but seems it'not right, and I feel stupid like a potato. Normally even if I don't do it many times I can solve basic math problems without SO much pain, and this is  a very very simple one, but I am excruciating.

As an excuse, I am drunk.

Please give the number, AND math

First, find EURO price 0.08179:500= 6.113 EURO for one bitcoin, 1 euro is around 1,12 dollars, so that gives a bitcoin price of around 6.850 USD

An easy way to do it is to divide 500 by 0.08179.

500 / 0.08179 = 6113.22 Euros.

cryptjh and BADecker already gave the right answers, but I want to add that your original answer was right too :)

your simple proportion 0.08179:500=1:x solves as:
x=500/0.08179 =6113,22€, which is the correct answer.

proportions are "easier" to solve when you put the x as a numerator (above the line)
eg:
500/0.08179=x/1 => x=1*500/0.08179

Now I'm getting it, yesterday I made 0.081/500 like one hundreds times lol....I suppose it was the alcohol, or at least I like to think so  :)

Another way would be divide 1 by 0.081 and then multiply it by 500! Thank you!!

But getting drunk has to do with the way that nature works. Math is only man's feeble attempt at understanding nature.
