Post by: bitbollo on May 17, 2019, 11:23:39 AM
Hi guys,
as reported here by @D3m1r4wanti
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5131648.0
it has been described a phishing attempt with a fake myetherwallet (MEW) site.

Code:
https://myetherwallet.com-eth.network/index.php?
Code:
https://myetherwallet.com-eth.network
and not
Code:
https://myetherwallet.com

As you can real website is ending with .com
Below you can find a full description of the scam.

It's important share these scam issues in these boards so more people are informed about these scams and how to avoid it.

Be ALWAYS SAFE and verify you're using the right web address:

https://myetherwallet.com

some time ago I opened the Myetherwallet site to make a transaction, but I was directed to another tab in the browser that I used with a slightly different address but with the exact same appearance.

exactly the same as the original website,

I hope this can be our shared awareness,
because not only were they new sites that were phishing, but the Vintage website from MEW also experienced the same incident.

and exactly the same as the original website.

always bookmark some important websites and ignore pop ups when you surf the internet. because it might be one of the phishing attempts.

Code:
https://myetherwallet.com-eth
Because, may be few peoples would click by mistake. There is lot of inexperience newbie. They might input private key, its just for safety.

The problem is that most people don't know how to truly check these things. Every single character (alphabet) on the Internet is important and leads to a different site from the one probably being searched. For instance, there is a dot com (.com) to bitcointalk on the net instead of the authentic dot org (.org)

Really, it's because of all these discrepancies with MEW and phishing instances that I abandoned it for more secured apps like the Imtoken and Trust wallets. I think people should begin to look in the way of these wallets.

There have been many instances where Google have promoted such phishing sites to the front. So it is better to check before trusting google right away with their searche results.
