Title: Evolution of the Bitcoin Logo
Post by: CryptoBry on May 21, 2019, 03:31:01 AM

This is an interesting read on the evolution of the bitcoin logo through the years before arriving at the currently used one and though it is still called unofficial this is now considered to be the symbol of bitcoin especially in the face of many fiat money we have around the world. And of course, the story of the bitcoin logo started here in this forum.

The current logo with color orange was made courtesy of a forum member with username "“bitboy” and this is the one that really took off as the very symbol that bitcoin is known all over the world. Of course, there are those who do not agree of the logo and the symbol even telling us that we don't need them in the first place.

In a world where people associate something with brand names and logos, bitcoin is not far behind in the quest for easy recognition, perception and association.

I like the new logo. It fits well on ATMs, Credit Cards, websites, and stickers.

I prefer the simple orange B compared to the other Bitcoin logos, as I find this orange B much simpler, and it gives less emphasis that Bitcoin is actually a coin(bitcointalk's favicon give's a bit emphasis). I heavily dislike those bitcoin images(like the one below) that most articles are using, as it can give false impressions to people who don't know much about bitcoin; thinking that bitcoin is something physical.

I agree with you. This one is simple yet shows a deeper meaning. Bitcoin's logo doesn't have to be artistic because Bitcoin itself is already an art. This logo emphasize the function and importance of Bitcoin in the Blockchain technology. For me, it's more attractive meaningful.

For me this orange circle with a white B inside is the most emblematic figure of bitcoin, although there are some others.

2009:

2010:

2010 yet:

I think these were the major changes in btc logo. As I see on the link you posted, the first two logos were rendered by the creator of bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto.

As for me, the first one which was created by Satoshi is the best. It's symbolic because Satoshi is the one who knows the first goal and purpose of Bitcoin.
I would prefer to see a logo which was created by the creator himself. However, the fact that there are new logos existed only means that there arr also developments and changes in time.

I like the cırrent one.its like gold which tells its valuable, it has sticks as dollars, i get it like "its rival of dollar". When i look at it makes me feel reach.

I've seen something more elegant logo.

Here it is.

But i still go for the orange one. Simplicity is beauty that is why the logo presented by the OP is more attractive and most used logo by the merchants. It just means that whenever we see that orange logo in some stores, we identify btc is accepted in their respective business.

I will still prefer the first bitcoin logo because it has already build an image in the mind of the people, the new one is cool thou but that is if it have to do with merchant that are accepting bitcoin or having a bitcoin  ATM/POS that logo is OK for that but if it bitcoin as a currency then we should remain with the old one.

This is stupid, we're on bitcointalk and we should go to coindesk to read about a topic on Bitcointalk...
This is the original thread, started by satoshi:

and the second one

I have been into cryptocurrency for three years now, but itis now that I get to know the logo of Bitcoin all I thought it was created by Satoshi Nakamoto, the logo is very simple, bitboy has done a great job on this, not really complicated design and everyone can relate to it.

...

that is more complicated than be elegant and it is not suitable as a "bitcoin logo" in my opinion, I think these things are mostly good for clients for example if you have a wallet you can use that as its logo just as most clients do. for example Electrum uses a blue one with B in the middle and it looks like an atom.

I don't know, but maybe it's just a southeast asian thing but when I first saw the BTC logo, I thought to myself, Thai Baht? Yes, it looks really like that, sure it had the double/parallel lines but at a glance, especially if you didn't know Bitcoin, Baht's what came to mind.

Actually never knew the history of the logos but good to know. Wonderful that everyone has their own spin on it (I don't agree @maxreish that logo's more elegant).

Never knew about the Ƀ symbol though. Open source, huh.

is a very ugly logo, I prefer the current logo that has always been very beautiful and people have gotten used to it. thinking about changing logo would only create a great headache in people... on the adoption stage that bitcoin is, leave the current logo is the best option

The current logo with color orange was made courtesy of a forum member with username "“bitboy”

I did not know that

Then we should really be thankful to bitboy for creating a good logo for Bitcoin,
I really like the current logo it is so simple ,But the Bitcoin physical coin or collector coins are also a good one.
The design is also great so if they want to change the logo I would go to the collector's coin design.

Maintaining the logo of satoshi is the best thing, because that's where the forerunner of bitcoin was created. Many bitcoin logos are circulating on the internet, but they are not official and made by some people by customizing. This makes the bitcoin logo look dynamic, in my opinion the agreed bitcoin logo is the logo of satoshi himself.

Hell no. It looks so ugly lol  I am a big fan of the original logo, created by Satoshi back to 2009/2010.. that one is so simple and so clean

The logo we currently have is pretty decent, very legible, simple, modern, well functioning. Does anyone know if there is some sort of a brand book for bitcoin?

I like the style of the Bitcoin logo. Very often clients who are going to start their own business in cryptocurrency or blockchain niches ask to make the similar Logo Design (https://designbro.com/logo-design/) and I think that it is a winning position of you have the similarity with such a "brand" but do not forget about identity and originality of your own brand.

Yes, the Bitcoin logo created by Satoshi must be preserved, because holding copyrighted works that have contributed to Bitcoin is pride and honor for the logo itself, so leave it installed and look good to everyone with the entire Bitcoin community. Never change and replace different logos and colors for Bitcoin.

The change of bitcoin logo won't change anything in a good direction. Keep it like satoshi choose it to be and that's enough.
It's clean, nice, and simple and it's known that the simple things are the best ones.
There are so many fake projects around bitcoin that a new logo can only hurt than push forward.People will loose confidence that this is the real bitcoin.

The bitcoin logo is the same as the Thai Baht symbol. And the bitcoin symbol as listed on the Bitcoin page of Wikipedia is ₿. This also happens to be the same symbol as the russian ruble.

Was the choice of bitcoin symbol related to any of these I wonder?

Isn't this the ruble symbol (₽)? It is quite different from the Bitcoin one. BTC
Please give some source to read if im wrong here because sounds very interesting.

It is a very interesting story indeed! Thanks for sharing it in here!

My opinion is that we need a logo for the or at least a symbol. Our mental structure tends to associate things. That's how we make distinctions.

Although Bitcoin could survive without it, it is a nice addition to have.

I like the real, physical BitCoin Logo that was naturally invented about 14 Billion years ago, and will still be around long after BitCoin is forgotten.

Hard Facts
after you be forgotten first because Bitcoin will always remain and that is

 "Good Facts"

really love the first Logo it is indeed simple but easy to remember, but the recent is also cool since they have Both same color and style

You don't have to go very far, it's at the very beginning of the wikipedia page itself: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bitcoin

Quote
"₿" redirects here. It is not to be confused with "฿" for Thai baht.
Bitcoin[a] (₿) is a cryptocurrency. It is a decentralized...

[im g]https://i.imgur.com/u6MUK2l.jpg[/img]

Hard Facts
I think that’s off topic, he wasn’t comparing gold and Bitcoin, rather he’s talking about the Bitcoin logo which is the same symbol that’s inscripted in the Bitcoin physical coin in the image you have posted.

@OP
Why does the second logo have two Bitcoin symbols? The first Bitcoin logo is the one I have been seeing and for me I think it’s better than the second one. Not minding, Bitcoin is a free community, so you’re free to use whatever logo is best for you. But looking at the both of them you don’t really need to be told which one is more better and it also shows that Bitcoin is accepted with the writing below the logo.
