Title: What is the real value of bitcoin and cryptocurrency
Post by: Jansenist on May 22, 2019, 03:06:50 PM
First and foremost since the bitcoin price tend to follow a quite snappy dynamic it is hard to really apprehend its real value. basically market cap is derived from the number of active user on the network multiplied by the bitcoin price. in the end bitcoin market cap always tend to be far above expert' expectation, but does it mean it is overvalued. it is understandable that bitcoin appears like it has availed from the hype it created throughout the internet communities, but i think that the hype is gone now since its creation and guess what bitcoin still follows the same pattern and cycle it used to, hinting that somehow it could benefit from this hype but is not driven by it alone.

Like any market, bitcoin price assess on supply and demand while buyer and seller determine the value. according to a recently read article on investopedia, expert follows the Metcalfe'law to determine the value of a network which suggest to square the number of network user, in that scheme expectation is far below the current market valuation, but where does bitcoin gain its real value?

in fact i think that bitcoin gain it value from itself and its features, this is a relatively unseen technology that suggest new ways to do things, basically it will benefits from continious boost that will allow it to follow a certain pattern and eventually this will stop being called hype.

Bitcoin is a utility and the utility itself gives the value for bitcoin but that's a little bit different compared with another crypto because some security gets their value based on the how much funds that already raised by the companies. Remember the fact not all of the cryptocurrencies can be determined as utility and there was a lot of them are security and how can you determine that even some securities have the same feature like utility?

It can be true, anyway it's not possible to measure how much this value is, it's very subjective and will always vary from times to times. Thinking this way, when btc price rises it's because its features are being exalted and praised by investors (technology of the future, easy to deal with, decentralized...), but when the price falls, it's because bitcoin features are being criticized and blamed (scalability issue, expensive transactions, high volatility...).

Actually, the fluctuations in price aren't always about bitcoin features. I think speculation and hype still play a big role in crypto currency market. Sometimes without apparent reason btc price changes a lot and it's hard to find convincing explanations to justify that (besides speculation, of course).

I would like for solid, reliable metrics to be developed to price bitcoin. I suppose because it is such a new asset these metrics have not yet been established. For now, the price is simply based on supply and demand by many parties on exchanges. That the use of the coin continues to break records despite a somewhat inflated price is quite telling about the potential of this asset.

Price is not born because of technology. Because of the demand for it on many exchanges. Everyone on earth wants to have it in their wallet, hope to make a profit in a bright future. Technological coins that bypass Bitcoin a lot, but they are not as popular as the main currency.

While Bitcoin is currently far below the other altcoins in performance, it still has a significant place as a pioneer. So I think the value of a bitcoin should be at least $ 1 million.

Same as other commodities, the price of crypto is derived based on the supply and demand. The market drives the price of the cryptocurrency. Since cryptocurrency is a technology that is  new  and something that is different than how we knew currency, for investors and users, cryptocurrency can be a new alternative that we can use other than fiat. Not to mention  that it brings convenience and cuts a lot of fees rather than going thru a third party in regards to transactions such as banks, that is why cryptocurrency demand is too high and the reason why it reached it's price today.

We can not find the real value of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency, because such a value does not exist. Bitcoin, like other types of cryptocurrency, have a price only for a certain period of time. This is due to the fact that the price of cryptocurrency is formed exclusively on the ratio of supply and demand, and these parameters are never constant.

So you already have the answer.
I thought you were asking and just forgot the "?".

Anyway, that is right. It is said so mamy times here. Bitcoin is still young. It is still in its baby stage. The fact that it is still being mined is one proof that it haven't reached its full potential. All we can do now is wait and hoard more for the great outcome.

Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies are still a new technology even though bitcoin was launched 10 years ago. So I think we can't really find out the real value of bitcoin now because there are still a lot of updates to be made and we also have to consider that there are still bitcoins available to be mined.

I also think that price depends on the demand but I disagree that technology does not contribute to it.  The technology that is imprinted in bitcoin make it interesting for everyone thus creating this so called demand.  If Bitcoin is just like any other  fiat currency, I am sure no one will get interested to it and thus be ignored.  Another thing is the needs that it tackles.  We all know that paper money is an ever inflating currency making its value goes down.  People wanted something that will appreciate overtime and that is solved by Bitcoin since it never inflate and the supply is very limited.

Hype is probably gone in your opinion but it's just getting started to retrieve itself until it comes back to the high price that everyone is expecting now, so the growth will come naturally.

Yes, calling the growth of bitcoin as hype will be stopped soon once it stabilizes.

Number of active users is not a good metric, for example 1000 small users are less impactful than one billionaire user - you get the idea.

Bitcoin markets are pretty free, so I see no problem with taking market value as real value - it's the best one we have, all other metrics unless someone will actually agree to make exchange with those rates - this is economics 101. If you think that some calculated value is real, then treat it as prediction, and if Bitcoin will become stable at that value, then you were right, otherwise you're wrong.

In a few years, what I saw about travel, Bitcoin and cryptocurrency did not find genuine value because prices fluctuated so quickly according to the level of demand, but I don't think that's a big problem because Bitcoin is like an investment that will continue to pump on demand, the hype is always there at certain times don't assume everything is quiet when the market is pumping well.

The real value of Bitcoin will depend on us on how well do we use this as a cryptocurrency for payment usage or as an investment asset. The price will depend also on the supply and demand of the market and there are certain times when the hype comes.

The value of cryptocurrency is definitely been really difficult to predict and we cannot make sure that changes very quickly when it reaches a goal then only you can say this is the price for that and we cannot say the cryptocurrency will not worth also

Bitcoin when it was created and it was stated in its whitepaper is that it is supposed to be a more secure and decentralized alternative for using fiat money, but as time went on and due to the fact that it has limited supply its price went up and people started moving away from that idea of using bitcoin to buy and sell things to considering it a type of investment that needs to be stored and saved, the real value of bitcoin and cryptocurrency to me is a way for us to free ourselves from the control of the government and banks that they have put on us with the fiat that dominates everything in our lives, but people really forget what they are really about.

I think the value of bitcoin is found in its intrinsic importance so that at every point, you know that it is an access that can worth a price you don't even expect because of its utility and volatility. People now hodl it as an asset.

Currently we are seeing volatile value of bitcoin and crypto, because whales are manipulating the market too much. Once bitcoin become more stable, we will see many people accepting bitcoin as payment. That is when we will see the real value of bitcoin and it will be much more higher than the current bitcoin price.

I think the price is determined by simple demand and supply.  Scarcity also plays an important role.
I understand your point though. I kind of suspect that bitcoin/crypto has an advantage over others due to early adopters & believers holding large amounts of coins unlike the case of governments holding much of gold supply for example which makes the price easy to manipulate.

Op was talking about where are crypto gets its real value and i think that's not about the demand and supply. Demand comes from the possibility of crypto offers something useful for them all. Basically, you cna't create the demand for something that not useful for them. In this time i was talking about how you can use some of the coins to buy on the merchants, use it on the platform and another utility or security usage.
that's the features that offered by crypto and create the demand.

Bitcoin has no backing, it has no value at all aside from what people give it a value, there is a talk about how the miners give it a
worth because it costs this much to mine and that much for miners to get one bitcoin and all that but remember bitcoin cost like 5800 before the drop and it dropped even further down because as long as someone with a lot of bitcoin sells their bitcoin there is not much miners will be capable of doing and eventually difficulty will drop to make it easier to mine and drop the cost anyway.

This is the reason why bitcoin only worth what we think it worth and in the sense of "value" it has no value like any other product but at the same way fiat currency has no value neither, they stopped the gold standard decades ago so dollar worth what we think dollar worth too which means its okay for bitcoin to have no true value but only a worth.

I feel the only time we will really know the value of bitcoin is when supply becomes very limited of exhausted, by that time, the law od demand and supply will no longer play out on BTC and I dint think hype too will work again, but the circulating currency will determine the real value of BTC.

So for now, it means we will not know the real value of BTC other than the once we are being shown on exchanges until later in future when demands becomes far higher than supply, then the real value of bitcoin will show its face because there will be very little movement in the price of bitcoin then.

The market is still very volatile now and until we really get to a stage where bitcoin becomes a stable coin before we can get the real value of bitcoin out, for now, the only value that I follow is the one that is being displayed on coinmarketcap, but I know that many people have told me that is not the real value.

Whatever the value is in the unseen world, the real one which has been reflecting in most of the transactions I have done on exchanges is the one that we see on coinmarketcap. Until the market become less volatile, that is when we will see the real value of BTC that we have been having at the back of our mind.

Gold got the value due to its property as well which is the metal which can be turned into ornaments in the way we want and also it weigh very less so it made the people to trust it and also it maintain the stable value for centuries. But bitcoin is not stable even we can see $1000 changes in few hours which is kind of scary for the new people who never know how the price movement of bitcoin will be.

We cannot determined the real value of Bitcoin but we glad to see some price action (pump) this past few month bitcoin still a good one to hold like gold or even stronger to this one.
In the future some expert, analysis predicted that Bitcoin will become super uptrend or the price become higher and higher but right now we cannot know the real value of Bitcoin.

It is driven by demand and supply and accordingly the prices keep on fluctuating . Though the big whales when enter they prices surge quickly and on selling them to drops as well vastly . Thus their demand in future drives the prices to greater extent .

I'm a bit confused where you said that the market cap of Bitcoin is derived from the number of active users in the network multiplied by the Bitcoin price? Lol… how is that? You can't even tell the number of active users in the network. The market cap of any cryptocurrency is calculated by multiplying the price of the coin by its circulating supply. So if the price of Bitcoin is $200 and there is only 1 million of Bitcoins in circulation, then you will have to multiply the $200 per BTC by the 1 million in circulation and that gives you the market cap.

Satoshi must have seen all these issues ahead, and probably reason why he created coins with limited supply, whales are able to manipulate the market today because we still have enough supplies for them to work with, a time will come that the supply will finish and people will start hoarding their coin, at this point, demand will become so high while there is no longer supply.

So it means people will hold on to their coin so tight, and then we will have a very less volatile market and I think like one of our mates have said, the real value will come out then. So I still believe that with little volatility, the real value of bitcoin will come out.

This is literally how market demand/supply works. But this is just too general to determine at what price we can say an asset is fair-priced. For example, if there is somebody who is agreed to buy a glass of water for $10, can you say the same thing if you live in a place where healthy water is abundant? I bet no.

Some has tried to applied old school asset pricing for Bitcoin, but it seems there are no plausible findings yet.

I don't think bitcoin will end at some point in the future. when its supply becomes limited, a bubble rises again and is then extinguished. There will certainly be another altcoins that will replace bitcoin and the black market will continue. We have official markets that are regulated by laws like Forex, the stock market, ... but we only have a black market and no one can stop it.

I don't really agree but however it is possible to happen. I would just say that the real value of Bitcoin is not located on its coin but more on technology itself. It is blockchain technology where everything is transparent, traceable and no one could disrupt the system. So, If in the worst Bitcoin will eventually burst out (almost impossible), at least we have the technology to build future.

I think the price is determined by simple demand and supply.  Scarcity also plays an important role.
I understand your point though. I kind of suspect that bitcoin/crypto has an advantage over others due to early adopters & believers holding large amounts of coins unlike the case of governments holding much of gold supply for example which makes the price easy to manipulate.

indeed, with demand and supply and limited supply forming the price movement of bitcoin. but I think even though gold has an unlimited supply, but gold has high trust from all people
There's no real value of bitcoin, it changes every hour and every day but the supply and demand dictate the price for that specific date and changes again in the next day. We also have to admit that the price of bitcoin can manipulate by the whales and we have to be aware on that so we can know when to sell our coin if you are not planning to hold. Real value of bitcoin is just a belief of every investors, no point to argue on this.

I also think like that, at that time there will certainly be a lot of demand and little supply. so I think the price becomes illogical because it soars. and I think it will be even higher in the future, because the inventory continues to decline. for example a bitcoiner dies and doesn't inherit his wallet
This angle is where some analyst sees that makes them believe that bitcoin may get to about 1 million dollars in future and people think they are crazy, until this moment, I have not seen any coin that functions well as much as bitcoin does, and as long as bitcoin stays relevant which I believe will, demand will always be there.

If you even look at the remaining supply left in the market, we will know that we are gradually approaching a time where bitcoin supply will become so limited and demand will become high. I think this                should even be the ATH target of many investors, When bitcoin supply will become so limited and scarce, then people will be selling their coin so  high, thereby increasing the value of BTC so high too.

We cannot generally say what the value of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies is. The price of cryptocurrency can only be determined at a specific time, because this price is changing all the time. It has been and will always be changeable, since it is formed solely on the balance of supply and demand, and they are never constant. This is a feature of decentralized cryptocurrency and it attracts the attention of traders and general holders of cryptocurrency.

Absolutely, I don't doubt about bitcoin's viability as it has huge potential and persistent value that fullfill the desired necessities of investors. Somehow, it dominated with viable platform and stand as a leading asset of all currencies. And hopefully its growth will be persistent and constantly stable.

Most people who buy Bitcoin don't do that because of the underlying tech. I doubt people even know what blockchain actually means, or what the difference is between centralized and decentralized blockchains.

All they know is that blockchain is a new trend being hyped up left and right, and they read that it will change whole industries. We have a long way to go in order to make people aware of what Bitcoin is before they buy it.

So, If in the worst Bitcoin will eventually burst out (almost impossible), at least we have the technology to build future.
You mean that blockchain tech will always be here if Bitcoin isn't? Maybe so, but without Bitcoin showing why blockchains only matter if used as distributed ledger, the blockchain industry is worth even less than it already is.

Databases are better than private blockchains. Period.

I am happy that the supply of bitcoin available in the market is not as much as the way other coin supply is, which is why bitcoin will get its highest value before those other altcoins. I think the more we approach exhausting the available supply, the more the market of bitcoin will become less volatile and demand will become so high.

This time, people that have bitcoin would not want sell their coin to those who doesn’t have and as much as the demand gets so high and critical, value of bitcoin will  start increasing beyond control and maybe we can really ascertain the value of this coin then like what one of the mates said.

Bitcoin has value only because certain financial communities stand behind it, which create this price for it by regular and systematic actions. If they were not there would be no value. Bitcoin is exactly the same asset as many others for which value is created artificially. However, this does not mean that he is useless.

We can have a simple calculation on the support lines, for example if bitcoin drops to 1 dollar everyone would say they would get it right? Well the thing is if bitcoin dropped from 8 thousand to 1 dollar then nobody would buy it, there must be a reason for it to drop that much, hence there is actually no real value to bitcoin, if it was even 1 dollar people would still be acting around the same way they act on 8 thousand.

Some people would buy it, some people would panic and sell it and there would be about the same issues we talk as right now. That is why it is clear to me that bitcoin could be 1 dollar each or 1 million each and it would still have no real value, it is 8 thousand dollars right now each and that is its value right now, tomorrow who knows what the value will be.

Bitcoin and other cryptos don't have a 'real' value, and this is why prices are so volatile.

Look at the mainstream financial markets, and you see share prices for companies that have established products, properties (intellectual and physical), infrastructure, plus many other assets both tangible and intangible. Their prices are more stable partly because of all this 'stuff' that they can be measured against. This relative price stability is then self-perpetuating because it invites long-term investments from pension funds etc, so it comes down to a) having assets and b) being established because of 'a'.

Crypto by contrast is volatile largely because so much of the price is based on expectation of future utility. It is worth nothing now other than in a speculative sense. Partly in the sense of there being nothing 'real' to base the price on, and partly in the sense of the volatility inviting traders... so this volatility is also self-perpetuating. We get out of it once crypto becomes mainstream. That's when the markets start to mature, we get big institutional investment, and trading becomes less frenzied.

It's impossible to track how many people are using Bitcoin and we'll never see everyone use Bitcoin because there's always a small percentage of people that hates Bitcoin.

No one can say what will happen in future so just take the current value as real and don't expect anything higher even if the chances to go high are there.
I agree, those expectations are just predictions it could also not happen and the real value could be the dynamic price of Bitcoin

Actually we can't just compare the value for bitcoins depending on their advantages but also there are points where bitcoins can make us have profits and it would definitely state the value for bitcoins. Also the price ratio for bitcoins keeps on fluctuating depending on the demand and supply factor.

There is not a single individual behind the price change for bitcoins but there are hundreds of thousands of peoples who do manipulate the price for bitcoins by putting huge buy/sell orders. Value for bitcoins is always going to be immortal for me because, my financial life is already been stabilized by bitcoins and so I am a happy user who would always keep on supporting bitcoins.

The prices would entirely depend on how many of the peoples are involved in the decentralized cryptocurrency transactions. Currently, there are very less peoples which are involved in the day-to-day crypto transactions and I think that the ratio would certainly hike up in the upcoming future. If by any chance 100% of the population from the globe(which is impossible as there are children's as well as old ones which couldn't be counted) starts trading or accepting bitcoins then the price is surely going to be most costlier and even precious metals would be cheap in front of bitcoins then. I hope such time comes fast.

According to some authors like Malkiel Burton it assures that all action, in this case the currency, has an intrinsic value included and that the price gives the market, the offer-demand, this is something applicable to bitcoin, because the value is what it can have at some stage of the market, at this time the value in the market is high, because many investors are entering, there are many people interested buying no matter the price, I think those who bought bitcoin in $ 3k are selling right now in $ 8k , but it is not so profitable, since it is expected to reach much higher values of $ 20k.

Taking the real value seems to be 1 btc = 1 btc but as I've said price still differs and we're all attached to it.

Yes, taking the price with the current one should be considered as the real one. Like today, we dipped and the price goes back for the meanwhile to $8200.

Each coin has two side and the coin having only one side is not considered as a coin. Practically speaking, bitcoins too has two sides which makes them more popular. Bitcoins are been used in the dark web where peoples buy or sell illegal commodities like drugs, weapons, etc in exchange to bitcoins.

Why do you think they use bitcoins in the dark web?

Because bitcoins gives them the freedom and anonymity which makes them feel more confident in trading with such good with response to bitcoins. Bitcoins are been adapted by the community much vastly and so is been followed by the dark community.

In my opinion bitcoin and altcoins are both unstable, So with Bitcoin i can not compare any of altcoins. The reason here is clearly seen, when the price of bitcoin gets enormous, the price of altcoins decreases. Reduced price of bitcoin too much, later the price of altcoins increased.

There is no "Real Value" for bitcoins or cryptocurrencies. Value for bitcoins or cryptos is been created by us by creating a proper demand for the existing supply. The price for such coins is in the upward trend until all of the coins are been mined out or are into circulation. The value for bitcoins is never the same and keeps on varying with the candles moving onto the graph.

Yes, I agree that bitcoins have gained the value for them only with its features and benefits. The benefits being with bitcoins makes peoples buy bitcoins which makes the value for them rise and the markets run simultaneously. It might really take couple of years to declare any specific price for bitcoins or cryptocurrencies.

Yes I do think bitcoin is the utility and bitcoin value is affected by how much people use it for transactions but i do think there is another things that affecting the price of bitcoin, for example the price of mining bitcoin, the higher the price of power seems affecting the price of bitcoin in the market. So there is many factor that affecting bitcoin, if we talk about the real value i think it would changes as the condition of the market and there no exact value for bitcoin is keep changing.

bitcoin is well worth its current value. I believe that in the future, its price will continue to increase because it is serving a large economy. Money transfers are no longer a problem as blockchain technology is doing very well and banks support buying and selling cryptocurrency.

The real value of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies can only be determined at a certain point. In the next instant, their value will be different. Since there can be no fixed price in a decentralized cryptocurrency, it is impossible to determine their value for at least one day. During this day, their price will change many times. This is one of the main features of the cryptocurrency market.

Most recent exchange rate is indeed a good way to determine Bitcoin's "real" value. Another way is to look at the bottom to bottom development, which I have always found out to work better in my personal opinion. The bottoms are basically the new floors after a wild ride up, and so far we haven't dipped below past main bottoms.

I find it also important to point out how subjective valuing Bitcoin is. For one person it might be a steal or interesting entry point at $8000 while others may think $6000 is closer to what its value should be. The great thing about being able to long or short Bitcoin is that you can put your money where your mouth is and either profit or pay the price for being wrong.

You sure, because to me, I see it differently, I believe we just left the bear market not quite long and we still have the fresh memory of the events that happened then, I believe we remember vividly that when bitcoin was extremely low which was during the bear market, most altcoins too were extremely low and none of them has been able to recover since then until the top 50 coins started recovering first following the semi bull run of bitcoin.

The only time altcoins were running so high was never when bitcoin became low, it was when bitcoin started consolidating which will be the same pattern it will follow now. If you say altcoins moon when bitcoin becomes very low, then it means people should not expect any increase from altcoins now until it gets to ATH and back to bear market again.

Bitcoin has really convenient functionality for p2p payments, so its value is undeniable. In turn, its real value is always reflected by the state of the market at some point. The market is influenced by many factors, so the price of digital assets, as well as any other, is unstable.

I think we can calculate it depending on the marketcap plus the orders, I mean if the price is around 9 thousand dollars right now and there are more buyers than sellers it means it will go higher so 9 thousand and more is a good value to give. I don't really know how to calculate somethings value unless I am given the cost of that, like if you want to give value to something like a phone what do you do?

You calculate all the materials and their costs, you calculate manufacturing and you calculate shipping, those are about the all things that is required and you make a ton of phones so you divide all costs to phones and you get one phones value, whatever the company puts on top of it is their branding and profits nothing else. Does bitcoin have something like that? Maybe miners could tell us what bitcoin worth? I am not entirely sure.

I think this is not what OP meant

It seems like he refers to Bitcoin's value which it would have if there were no speculation ("bitcoin gains its value from itself and its features"), i.e. the value which comes through its real use, for example, by having "really convenient functionality for p2p payments". The difference is that the value which is reflected by the market (read, its price at some point in time) also includes Bitcoin's utility for speculation (i.e. how much you can potentially earn with it), and I daresay most if its value comes through this utility, not so much via its real use (for payments or whatever)

Real "value" of bitcoin is having to not depend on banks for monetary transactions and being able to do whatever you want with your money without anyone else using your money for themselves. Do you really think that banks who take your money from your company as "salary" do not use that money to profit themselves?

I am not talking about the money you put into the bank as "savings account" to get interest, even the money that you have there for nothing like salary and you withdraw whenever you need or spend is constantly used for their profits. Even if not for investing into something they use it to showcase how much money they have which gives them an advantage for the investments they make just in case. That is why bitcoin allows you to be your own bank and that is why its valuable.

I agree that now that we still have enough supply that is going round in the market which is the cause of prices changing many times, it will be difficult for bitcoin value to be known as the supply available can still be enough to manipulate the market value anyhow, but what happens when there is no longer supply available for people to purchase?

I think the price of bitcoin will become static then and that will be the only way the real value will shoe, although my friends has told me several times that the real value of bitcoin is known on an exchange through its volume which I still don’t understand, because most value that I see on exchange corresponds with CMC value.

This is probably one of the most difficult issues, because cryptocurrencies do not have physical embodiment, and the amount of money invested in them does not always correspond to the market price.

1. What is the real value of coin which promises anonimity, protecting of privacy and fast/cheap transactions and overall control on your own wallet.
2. What's the real value of coin which become victim of commercial guys and a lot of regulations?
First one has huge value and second one - none but bitcoin is in the middle. It doesn't answer to your question directly but here is some truth and answer.

I don't think anything has real value,  it's all about the people,  if they decide they are not going to make use of this particular thing, then it has no value. So it's the people that gives value to anything. When people stop to make use of these things they stop to have value. Bitcoin started at zero and from there it started moving up to a higher price and now it is valued in thousands of dollars,  that's how it' is for everything,  they start from zero/low price and move to a higher price worth.

I think the real value of cryptocurrency is it`s utility or the service that it gives to people. People are putting their money on cryptocurrency because it gives ease on transactions and could serve as bank as well, also it is used as an asset to earn a lot of profit.

We are in economics part of the discussion but talking about the political and global values of bitcoin we can say it worth a lot more than it looks as well.

Yeah, we like to talk about miners costs and the volumes and what not to find the value of bitcoin but why are we not talking about the value bitcoin has that can't be calculated with numbers?

For example, it allows us to send and receive money globally without using any banks or any other middleman. It helps us become our own banks without giving power to banks, it helps us have a transparent system where if used properly nobody would be allowed to scam anyone without getting caught. I mean it has so much power that we don't calculate with numbers I think that adds to its value as well.

The real value of bitcoin and cryptocurrency can't be determined alone by just looking at the prices. Their value is actually reflected on how great the technologies and platforms behind them. The usefulness and functionality of these coins in todays modern world. This is one of the criteria to be considered valuable.

Here, the value is measured by the demand as I think. Crypto is a virtual currency, thus, if anyone is ready to buy it, let us say, for 100 thousand, its value is 100K. However, the price can be different.

There is a difference between price and value, the price of something is as you say determined by the supply and the demand and we are always trying to find the right price for every single asset in the world, but the value of something is what it offers and what characteristics make it useful, bitcoin offers their users the ability to send funds from one side of the world to the other with low fees and without any centralized third party being capable of blocking your transaction from the moment it was created, so the value of bitcoin was huge even if its price was zero at that time.

Cryptos' value consists in their usability, in their potential or actual role within the financial system, in the benefits they offer to the participants.

Cryptos that get used just as a speculative vehicle, a way to make money quickly, like most cryptos today, in my view have no value.

If we consider the cost of cryptocurrency from the point of view of cost, with respect to Bitcoin and ethereum, information about the benefits of mining has long been disseminated.  If Bitcoin has a price above $ 5,000, and the ethereum is above $ 250, then mining will pay off, of course, if you take into account all the costs of this activity.  Based on this, I can judge the real value of Bitcoin and ETH.

We can talk about the cost of Bitcoin and another decentralized cryptocurrency only at a certain point, which is determined by the ratio between supply and demand. Talking in general about the cost of decentralized cryptocurrency does not make sense. At any second, their value may rise sharply or fall significantly. This will all be their real price.

Predicting prices for cryptocurrency has always been difficult, and after the market has risen sharply and fell, it makes no sense to say anything without a certain experience.  In any case, the fact that a cryptocurrency has a very high volatility, this is what attracts users of cryptocurrency to this type of activity, because it gives a good opportunity to get more profit.

Good remarks!
We must differentiate between value and price.

Price is simply the result of ask and bid, and can be influenced, e.g., by speculation, which today - as you rightly point out - seems to be the main factor of cryptos price movements.

Value concerns the role and the benefits offered by a currency within the economy of a country.

Yes, and yes. So only real value is the value in this specific moment. Tomorrow real value can be very high or very low, that will be determined by the supply and demand. And we all know that in long run supply will be go down and there are very high chances that demand will rise, that will lead to the price rise. So people who don`t wish to bother their brains with calculating should just simply buy and hold.

Yes, we cant actually defined the price of bitcoin and it is not fixed or stable price just like fiat currency. Because bitcoin depends on the demand and supply when the demand goes up also bitcoin will make price makes expensive. This pump and dump will make bitcoin and other cryptos had profit, through trading people can easily make a profit on it.

Don't give them hope like that, it is not like that since it will not just pump into 100K that fast. It is true that it is a volatile crypto currency but there will always be a correction and always investors that will take advantage of this price pump.

Like any market, bitcoin price assess on supply and demand while buyer and seller determine the value. according to a recently read article on investopedia, expert follows the Metcalfe'law to determine the value of a network which suggest to square the number of network user, in that scheme expectation is far below the current market valuation, but where does bitcoin gain its real value?

in fact i think that bitcoin gain it value from itself and its features, this is a relatively unseen technology that suggest new ways to do things, basically it will benefits from continious boost that will allow it to follow a certain pattern and eventually this will stop being called hype.

https://www.investopedia.com/news/bitcoin-overvalued-researchers-say/
Bitcoin is an digital asset and there is nothing like the real value, the value is only based on the rate of demand and supply… as the demand goes up the value will increase. It’s not a currency,… if it was currency we would have said that the value is worth what it is… just like $1 is $1 but the purchase either increase or decrease… And that depends on some certain factors which will determine where its really heading to. So Bitcoin value is whatever you are seeing now.

I dont know why people are worrying too much or trying to compare things up about value. We are indeed seeing basing on the current demand. It may not be a
currency but this one is really valuable due to its innovative tech benefits that it gives when it comes to payment system and thats the main reason why its being
supported.Real value would always matter on the community that do supports behind it.

In fact, Bitcoin has no real value. Its price is determined by the ratio between supply and demand, which are never constant. Therefore, the real value of Bitcoin can only be set at a certain point. Already in the next second its price will change.
Nothing can be done, such is the nature of a decentralized cryptocurrency. This is its advantage and disadvantage at the same time.

Cryptos' value consists in their usability, in their potential or actual role within the financial system, in the benefits they offer to the participants.
Cryptos that get used just as a speculative vehicle, a way to make money quickly, like most cryptos today, in my view have no value.

And it also depends on the demand. The more people are interested in Bitcoin, the more chances it has to grow. If we speak about the price of Bitcoin, it may not corresponds to its real value. However, it is just my viewpoint.
It seems to me that today the majority of users of cryptocurrencies see in cryptocurrency only a real opportunity to earn, and not the practical possibilities that cryptocurrency can provide.  Perhaps this is precisely why it is speculators who influence prices, and not the developers of their projects.
Perhaps the actual ability of crypto and bitcoin is still too little, more accurately, these capabilities still have no breakthrough development, almost all the features of crypto and bitcoin cannot compete with some similar technologies, the real value is almost non-existent. But in return, bitcoin and crypto are as you say, it is an infinite opportunity to make money if we make good use, a place worth investing, so even if many projects do not provide real value clearly, people still invest, they only care about the need to buy and sell, combined with news, real or fake is not important

The value will depend on the investors, they are not fixed because of many pumps and dumps. We can't say the exact value of cryptocurrency but we know its true worth. Bitcoin may not be fixed in terms of its price, but if you look on blockchain technology we can say that they are more valuable compare to any technologies or to any companies. Real values will not matter on a volatile market because it can't be fixed on one place.

The real value of the crypto currency is the current value. Listen, there is no fixed value of crypto currencies. The price will always fluctuate since the market is an open free market and the value is determined by the demand and supply. We just know that in the case of bitcoin, in the long run, the price will be higher than what it is now since the supply is limited, but the demand will be increasing along with the population increase.

The real value of crypto curency and bitcoin can be seen on the coin market cap you can see it on a different chart and we need to look at its present price on the chart because it keeps changing, we need to look at tge chart everytime because there is no crypto currency or maybe bitcoin that has a stable value. It can be change anytime without a prior noticeto the public.
Obviously that's the value if we based on it's current price, however, people sees differently especially those who fully understand what's happening with the crypto market. Sometimes bitcoin is overvalued when it's hype and therefore we can't say it's the real value as eventually it will drop due to correction.

The real value what we believe it should be and if we think at the moment it's undervalued, we take advantage on it and buy.

There's no real value of bitcoin, how could you prove that there's a value on it. That's why Bitcoin price fluctuates because of demand and supply. So commonly,  the value will depend on it and you cant say the fixed value on it. The value was made expensive if the supply becomes countless rather than the demand. The fact is no real value.

if we are looking for the real value i guess it can be determine on its stability which we can see on fiat
on the other side bitcoin and altcoins are deflationary coins and are not generally use on a daily basis compare to fiat
we can only speculate price by referring to its supply available in the market.

If we reach the point crypto is bought only for real money (meaning no stable coin tricks, no fractional reserve tricks and so on) then the prices on the market should show the "real value" (*).
Yes, this would mean regulations, KYC and a lot of things many of us don't like.

Because the "real value" is after all how much are people willing to pay for it....

(*) I used here the term "real value" in the way it's discussed, meaning real price. Imho the real value of Bitcoin is way beyond its price just because of the great invention it is and because it marks a great leap forward in the evolution of global economics.

For me, the real value of bitcoin and another cryptocurrency is a way the new level of currency / physical cash. When it comes to cryptocurrency, the transaction will be less hassle because it is digital and you can pay your bills through the internet without a long queue. Also, the transactions might become much faster, and bitcoin capability has way more to offer.  :)

In fact, it is more realistic to name the advantages of cryptocurrency if it is fully used in the daily life of a person.  But determining the real value of cryptocurrency is very difficult or almost impossible.  Take, for example, Bitcoin, which is limited in number and even if you distribute one Bitcoin to each person, then there will still not be enough for everyone.  And here, the price will be affected by supply and demand.

The value of Bitcoin is determined by how much investors and traders utilizes it on the market. Bitcoin still have a long way to go despite its achievements. Reaching a global adoption is one of the topmost priorities of Bitcoin.

I think Bitcoin and crypto pricing are both volatile, so we cannot say for certain when the price will outperform the community. However, in most cases, when the price of Bitcoin goes up, the down effects of altcoins fall.
Well, I think that when we see the value of bitcoin, we should accept it as the right price.
actually we can't be sure what the price should be for bitcoin, yeah the price of bitcoin will be in accordance with demand, but we know that sometimes manipulation occurs in the market, thus making the bitcoin market go up and down, and we don't know the right price for bitcoin because of that, and not our right to ensure that ?
